DPRK Foreign Ministry's Statement Supported in Switzerland

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The Swiss Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification made public a statement on Feb.12 in support of the Feb.10 statement of the DPRK Foreign Ministry. Recalling the open outburst of Bush that the ultimate goal of the U.S. administration was to put an end to someone's "tyrannical policy" and it would use arms for this, if necessary, the statement said: The U.S. warmaniacs must clearly know that it is a demand never to be gratified to urge the dialogue partner to come back to the negotiating table, while trying to destroy the latter's political system. It went on:
It is a legitimate measure that the DPRK decided to suspend its participation in the six-party talks for an indefinite period in face of the U.S. administration's plot for a war and "change of power."
Meanwhile, Japan, following the U.S. lead, has invented the problem of false remains over the already settled "abduction issue" to build up world opinion and put fresh muscles into its aggressive and hostile policy toward the DPRK in a bid to reduce the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration adopted in 2002 to a scrap of paper. Can the DPRK sit at the negotiating table with such one?
It is due to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK that the six-party talks have come to a deadlock. Unquestionably justifiable is the decision of the DPRK to beef up its nuclear arsenal for self-defense.
The measure taken by the DPRK is the most correct answer to the impudent and arrogant threat and abusive language of the U.S., the most tyrannical and bellicose in the world.
The DPRK has the legitimate and independent right to possess nuclear weapons to cope with the deployment of a host of nuclear weapons by the U.S. imperialist aggression forces in south Korea.
There is no need for anyone to feel misgivings over the DPRK's nuclear weapons which are for self-defense. The "misgivings" as to the DPRK over which the imperialists and their followers are raising outcries are their brainchild and crafty artifice.
The DPRK will prevent a war and defend peace by the recent measure.

U.S. Hostile Policy toward North Assailed

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Hwang Son, spokeswoman for the south Korean Reunification Solidarity, reportedly issued a commentary on Feb. 24 demanding the U.S. roll back its hostile policy towards the north. The north has consistently urged the U.S. drop its hostile policy toward it and make a sincere approach towards dialogue and negotiations, the commentary said, and went on; However, the U.S. scuttled the six-party talks, accusing the north of seeking "an economic reward" and pursuing "brinkmanship".
The U.S. and the group subservient to it should not waste time backbiting the north but opt for meeting the north's transparent and just demand.
The U.S. must have already known very well that the DPRK is not the country which would allow its sovereignty to be unreasonably infringed upon for a few dollars.
The U.S. drop of its hostile policy towards the north is the key to settling the DPRK-U.S. hostile relations, the commentary stressed.

S. Korean Conservatives' Last-ditch Wriggle Assailed

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The scheme of the south Korean right-wing conservative forces to revise textbooks are nothing but the last-ditch efforts of wretches whose fate is hanging in the balance, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed commentary. The Grand National Party of south Korea set the stage for "a symposium marking the inauguration of a textbook forum" bringing together anti-communist elements of Seoul National University, Yonsei University and other universities to revise the contents of the textbooks of modern history of south Korea which are tinged with "pro-north, anti-U.S. content."
To convey long to the coming generations the immortal feats of the peerlessly great man born of the nation and glorify them is the bounden duty of the whole nation enjoying their benefits, the commentary says, and goes on:
The scheme to make "textbooks" obliterating the pride of the nation that should be conveyed down through generations and praising the U.S. imperialists and sycophantic traitors who have brought all misfortunes and disasters, is an unpardonable anti-national criminal act to perpetuate national division, leave the south Korean people permanently in the mire of colonial rule and dependency and turn back the popular sentiments following the pro-north and anti-U.S. trend. This scheme is the last-ditch wriggle of those in their death throe.
A probe into the truth of the past history is now posing as a serious socio-political issue in south Korea and its dagger is pointed at the neck of the GNP group whose past is marred by nasty crimes of flunkeyism, treachery and corruption.
Upset by this, the reactionary conservative forces of the GNP are trying to find a way out in putting pressure upon the reform-seeking ruling forces with a renewed "coloring" offensive by taking issue even with the contents of high school textbooks. But it would be the biggest mistake, if they thought such poor trick would work in this sensible world.

Kim Jong Il Receives Gift from Iranian Delegation

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il received a gift from the IRNA delegation on a visit to the DPRK. The gift was handed to an official concerned by its President Abdollah Naseri Taheri who is heading the delegation on Feb. 26.

March of Young People in Pyongyang

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- A grand march of participants in the meeting of the young vanguard of Songun and youth and students in Pyongyang was held here on Feb. 27. They thronged Kim Il Sung Square, the starting point of the march.
Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and members of the delegation of Korean youth and students from Japan who had taken part in the meeting were present.
Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, in his report called on the participants in the meeting to fully display the strength and patriotic zeal of hot-blooded youngsters in the grand march for the Songun revolution to scale the high peak of a great prosperous powerful nation under the uplifted banner of the Juche idea as they pledged to leader Kim Jong Il.
The reporter underscored the need for all the participants in the meeting and other young men and women to demonstrate once again the immutable faith and will of the Korean youth to unswervingly follow the road of the Songun revolution under the leadership of Kim Jong Il through this general march.
    Then the march began.
They marched past the rostrum in fine array to the tune of "Song of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League," following flags bearing portraits of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
The paraders marched toward the Party Founding Museum and the Arch of Triumph holding placards reading "Let us become young heroes in the worthwhile struggle to glorify the Kim Jong Il era!", "Let the entire party and army and all the people unite in single mind and strikingly demonstrate the might of Songun!" and red flags.
Citizens waved their hands towards the marchers.

Demonstration of Might of Songun Young Vanguard Called for

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday in an editorial dedicated to the holding of the meeting of the young vanguard of Songun calls upon the youth to demonstrate once again to the world the might of the young vanguard of Songun who have grown up under the care of leader Kim Jong Il in the on-going general march. For the youth to strikingly demonstrate their militant spirit and courage as the young vanguard of Songun in the general march this year is an honorable drive to remain faithful to the mother Party and the motherland, the editorial says, and goes on:
To do so it is necessary for them to have a high ambition, a noble ideal and a high goal and make tenacious efforts to attain them.
This is the times when everything develops by leaps and bounds. Today's goal is quite different from the past one.
All the young people should work hard to put everything into practice with the determination to create a hundred from one at present though ten things were done from one in the past.
They should undertake every work in a bold and big way and fully demonstrate the mettle of the Korean youth of Songun at every labor-consuming and difficult post just as the youngsters did in the period of the great Chollima surge in the last century.
The youth who have strong spirit of initiative should take the lead in making technological updating and applying new technology to production and construction and perform exploits to startle the people.
They should overcome all difficulties in the revolutionary soldier spirit--the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the spirit of thoroughly implementing the tasks set out by the Party and the heroic self-sacrificing spirit-- at all posts and work sites where the general charge is now underway. Wherever the militant spirit and trait of the revolutionary army run high young people will perform more shining feats and fully glorify their high honor of being the young vanguard of Songun.

Rally for Peace and Disarmament Held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification of south Korea held the 43rd rally for peace and disarmament in front of the building of the Ministry of National Defence on Feb. 24, according to a press report. Kim Zong Il, secretary general of the organization, in a speech at the rally said the military authorities were emphasizing the concept of "principal enemy" and beating the drum of "unification by force of arms" in violation of the June 15 joint declaration calling upon the south and the north to recognize differences between them and reunify the country in a peaceful way.
Pak Sok Bun, director of the General Affairs Department, noted that the United States was resorting to moves to stifle the north under the pretext of its "nuclear issue" like a thief crying "stop thief!" while possessing the largest amount of nuclear weapons in the world. It is the country posing the biggest threat to world peace, he added.
O Hye Ran, department chief of the Team of the U.S. Forces Issue, disclosed the fact that the ruling party and the military authorities were now promoting the legislation of a law on the overseas dispatch of south Korean troops on the plea of the relief of international disasters. O branded it as one for virtual cooperation with the U.S. in its war of aggression.
Ri Kyong A, section chief of the Team for Peace and Disarmament, lashed out at the military authorities for promoting again these days the development of a multi-purpose helicopter, squandering a huge amount of fund.
A resolution was published at the rally.
Saying the announcement of the "Ministry of National Defence" that it "struck out the phraseology of principal enemy" was no more than word jugglery, it stated: We sharply denounce the ministry for not abandoning the cold-war style and hostile conception of confrontation with the north.
The military authorities should take a practical step for reconciliation and cooperation between the south and the north, shaking themselves free from the subordinate military ties with the U.S., the resolution urged.
A future action program of the organization was made public at the rally.

KCNA Slams Japan's Perfidy to DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The ultra-right wing forces of Japan are spreading the false rumor that the DPRK abrogated the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, peddling "abduction, nuclear and missile issues". They are groundlessly accusing the DPRK of "violating" the declaration, again raising a hue and cry over the oft-touted issues. This act cannot be construed otherwise than a folly which can be perpetrated only by such political imbeciles who go reckless, unaware of even the basic spirit of the declaration.
As already known, the basic spirit of the declaration is that Japan will redress its past and, on this basis, the two countries settle the pending issues between them and normalize their relations.
The DPRK has sincerely fulfilled its commitments stipulated in the declaration with a view to making a substantial contribution to the genuine improvement of the bilateral relations and peace and security in the region.
The Japanese reactionaries, however, have persistently raised the "issue of abduction" though it had already been settled, deliberately creating difficulties and complexities in the way of improving the relations. They have further strengthened their posture for showdown with the DPRK under the pretext of "the nuclear and missile issues".
The Japanese ultra-right wing reactionary forces are, therefore, entirely to blame for the present grave crisis in the DPRK-Japan relations as they have persistently pursued their hostile policy towards the DPRK, not pleased with the declaration.
They are dead-set against any process to improve the bilateral relations, contending that it would make impossible to realize their criminal design to stifle and reinvade the DPRK.
That is why they are so strongly opposed to Japan's settlement of its past.
It is the core of the declaration. The improved bilateral relations would be unthinkable without Japan's settlement of this issue.
If Japan thinks and acts with reason, it should redress its past crimes without delay instead of persistently talking about "abduction, nuclear and missile issues".
This would do Japan good, either.

Kim Jong Il Enjoys Performance Given by State Symphony Orchestra

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, enjoyed a performance given by the State Symphony Orchestra. Enjoying the performance together with him were Premier of the DPRK Cabinet Pak Pong Ju, Secretaries of the WPK Central Committee Jon Pyong Ho, Choe Thae Bok, Kim Kuk Thae, Kim Jung Rin and Kim Ki Nam, senior officials of the Party and the army and officials of cultural, art and media organizations.
The artistes of the symphony orchestra put on the stage colorful numbers including orchestras "Pass Mungyong", "A Swinging Girl", "My House in My Native Place" and "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain", the first movement of "Leningrad," symphony No. 7 of Sostakovic, and orchestra "Blue Danube River" of J. Strauss.
The concert truthfully represented the glorious path covered by the Korean revolution and the steadfast faith and will of the army and people of the DPRK to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche and the cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation without fail under the uplifted great banner of Songun.
The musicians demonstrated to the full the rich emotional effect of orchestra while making national flavor strongly felt in it through a unique ensemble of mixed orchestra. They thus clearly proved the validity and vitality of the WPK's literary and art policy of creating, composing and depicting any work in the Korean style.
The performance deeply impressed the audience as it fully reflected the strong spirit of the Korean army and people dynamically advancing toward a rosy future.
Kim Jong Il extended high appreciation and thanks to the creators and artistes of the symphony orchestra for their successful performance, expressing great satisfaction with the best concert given by them with high artistry.
The symphony orchestra, an art organization with a long history, which declared its foundation with the first performance of the immortal revolutionary paean "Song of General Kim Il Sung", has traversed the road of loyalty, single-mindedly following the Party, and successfully played a vanguard role in the forefront of building socialist culture as befitting a revolutionary art group in the "Arduous March," the forced march, the most difficult period, he said, highly praising the feats performed by it in the past.
The creators and artistes of the symphony orchestra have created many masterpieces including orchestra "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain" loved much by the people by firmly adhering to the principle of developing symphony in the Korean style to cater to the sentiment of the Korean people, he said, adding it is the great pride of the country to have this precious cultural treasure.
He set forth highly important tasks which would serve as guidelines in further developing the Juche-based symphony, noting that as music is humanics, it is necessary to depict the noble spiritual world of the people through beautiful and rich artistic representation to satisfactorily meet the cultural and emotional requirements of the people.

Yang Hyong Sop Meets Iranian Delegation

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, today met and had a friendly conversation with the IRNA delegation led by its President Abdollah Naseri Taheri at the Mansudae Assembly Hall. On hand were KCNA Deputy Director General Kim Pyong Ho and Iranian Ambassador to the DPRK Jalaleddin Namini Mianji.
On the occasion the head of the delegation said that inspecting different places during their visit he has come to know the fortitude of the heroic Korean people. The great leaders of Iran and Korea paid deep concern to the development of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, he said, stressing:
The role of the news agencies of the two countries is important in further developing the long-standing relations of friendship between Iran and Korea.
He expressed the firm belief that the Korean people will certainly achieve reunification of the country under the leadership of Kim Jong Il who is carrying forward the cause of President Kim Il Sung.

Nanhutou Meeting, Turning-point in Korean Revolution

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is dynamically advancing along the road of independence, frustrating the moves of the imperialists to isolate and stifle it. The Korean people, with a great pride and deep emotion, recollect the Nanhutou Meeting (from February 27 to March 3, 1936) which firmly established Juche for the first time in the history of the Korean revolution.
In the middle of the 1930s, the national chauvinists and factionalists infected with flunkeyism laid grave difficulties in the way of the Korean revolution while clamoring about "internationalism" on the principle of one party for one country put forward by Commintern.
Meanwhile, the Japanese imperialists mercilessly repressed in a fascist way any trifle anti-Japanese elements, to say nothing of all forms of anti-Japanese movements of the Korean people, as part of their preparation for aggression of the continent.
The situation of the country, where the Japanese imperialists were frantic in the efforts for national extermination, required the Korean revolutionaries to raise the banner of Juche higher.
President Kim Il Sung, to cope with the prevailing situation, made positive efforts to establish Juche in the revolution firmly and develop and expand the armed struggle to the homeland.
Commintern expressed full approval to the President's stand on Juche-based line of the Korean revolution and fully supported the stand that the Korean revolutionaries should carry out the revolution of their country by themselves.
With the subjective and objective conditions matured, the President held the Nanhutou Meeting in Juche 25 (1936). At the meeting, he set forth a proposal of moving the main force of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army to border areas and the Mt. Paektu area and gradually extending the theatre of the struggle into the homeland. He also put forward new ways to bring a great upsurge to the whole Korean revolution centered on the anti-Japanese armed struggle.
The Nanhutou Meeting, which indicated the way for the Korean people to accomplish the historic cause of national liberation at an early date by themselves, marked a turning-point of history, which brought about a new upswing in the Korean revolution.
Since then, the Korean revolution has emerged victorious on the basis of the Juche-oriented stand and a powerful socialist country of Juche, independent, self-supporting and self-reliant in national defence, has been built in the DPRK.
The Korean people will invariably advance, holding aloft the banner of Juche under the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Young People Distinguish Themselves in Economic Construction

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Young people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are standing in the van in the efforts for building a great prosperous socialist powerful nation as a vanguard and shock-brigade. They have built many monumental edifices in the Songun era.
Last year they completed many projects, 33 of them named after "chongnyon" (youth). The economic situation of the nation is still difficult. But youngsters, with a firm resolution to create an affluent life for the future, have successfully carried out the reclamation of 1,300 ha of Kumsong Tideland, and the construction of the Sansong Reservoir in Rakwon County, a mush-room farm in Anbyon County, the Tokin Power Plant under the Songjin Steel Complex, minor power stations and modern stock and fish farms.
The reconstruction of the August 28 Youth Paper Mill, Pit No.2 of the Jenam Coal Mine under the Tokchon Area Coal Complex, Kaechon City Soy Factory and various other factories was carried out on a modern basis.
The Undok Health Complex in Hoeryong City, House of Schoolchildren in Pyoksong County and other cultural establishments have been constructed and a powerful campaign has been conducted to facelift their hometowns to suit the features of the socialist country.
Youth of the country have completed more than 800 projects over the last ten years.
The young people are distinguishing themselves in many major projects including the Paektusan Songun Youth Power Plant and the Wonsan Youth Power Plant in response to the appeal of the meeting for the general march of the Songun revolution.

Turdus Merula Found in DPRK

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Turdus merula, a summer migrant, has been found in the Mt. Taesong area, Pyongyang, and other places of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for the first time. Various species of winter migrants belonging to Turdidae have inhabited in the northern part of the country.
Originally, turdus merula propagated itself mainly in Europe. But it has gradually expanded its inhabitation to east Asia.
After it was proved that the bird began to inhabit in Korea, it has been formally registered as an inhabitant in the country.
Ornithologists say that its inhabitation in the DPRK is attributable to the ecology of the country.
Over the last decade alone the DPRK government has adopted various laws and decisions to protect useful animals, land and environment so as to provide and preserve the good ecosystem.
During the tree-planting months in spring and autumn every year a mass campaign is conducted to plant trees throughout the country. Over the last year hundreds of millions of trees have been planted in tens of thousands of hectares in the country.

S. Korean Military Warned against Anti-north Provocation

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- The Navy Command of the Korean People's Army issued a press release Monday to accuse the south Korean army of its continued military provocations in the West Sea of Korea. Its full text says:
Recently the south Korean army infiltrated its warships into the waters of the north side in the West Sea of Korea without letup.
On Feb. 27 and 28 following Feb. 24 the south Korean military authorities again infiltrated warships several times into the waters of our side south of Kuwol Hill and Sunwi Islet, thus escalating military tension there.
The south Korean army's undisguised military provocation in the West Sea, which is timing to coincide with the U.S. imperialists' frenzied war moves against the north to stifle it by force under the pretext of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, is an intolerable challenge to us and a traitorous act.
We warn the south Korean military authorities that their act of perpetrating military provocations, contrary to the idea of "by our nation itself" and driving the north-south relations to the phase of confrontation, clinging to the coattails of the outsiders would be a foolish act of digging their own graves.
