Roman Orszewski, chairman of the Polish People's Army Union, said at the talks that in various countries where socialism collapsed their histories are distorted, monuments and statues of historical significance are destroyed and their wealth is being held by other countries' tycoons. This is because they failed to strengthen and develop their armies into those for defending the sovereignty and wealth of their countries and protecting the interests of their people under the pretext of depoliticizing the army, he noted, and continued:
It is only the KPA that has become a genuine main force of the revolution in charge of building socialism and national defence in the world.

The bid made by Japan for the permanent membership of the UN Security Council before atoning for its sinful past and probing the truth about its crimes is arousing a serious concern, the organizations said, urging the Japanese government to opt for properly settling its sinful past as early as possible.

U.S. Hostile Policy toward DPRK Will Never Succeed

Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The effective Songun policy and toughest counter-measures of the DPRK have frustrated the U.S. frantic moves to bring it to its knees and stifle it through high-handed pressure and nuclear blackmail, observes Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed article. It goes on:
This year the U.S. has worked hard to isolate and stifle the DPRK by charging it with nuclear development only to disclose its true colors as the very one responsible for the destruction of the groundwork of the six-party talks.
The Bush group let loose a string of sheer rubbish that the DPRK violated its commitments concerning the nuclear issue and unilaterally pressurized it to move first to scrap its nuclear program, a brigandish demand the DPRK can never accept, while shelving the issue of making a switchover in its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
It was the U.S. which overturned the basic groundwork of the six-party talks and applied double standards in dealing with the nuclear issue, thus putting the six-party talks in a stalemate and making the prospect of the solution to the nuclear issue dim. Yet it has resorted to a despicable trick to twist the nature of the issue while shifting the blame for such deadlock onto the DPRK side.
The clandestine nuclear-related experiments disclosed in south Korea this year clearly prove what a serious extent the U.S. prejudiced double standards concerning the nuclear issue have reached.
What is more serious is that the U.S. has undisguisedly worked to realize international blockade against the DPRK by plugging other countries into it.
The U.S. expected the DPRK to change its principled stand and yield to the U.S., scared by its international cooperation and blockade against the DPRK.
This year the .U.S. imperialists faked up the "North Korean Human Rights Act" under the pretext of the fictitious human rights issue in the DPRK.
This year they have left no means and methods untried to isolate and stifle the DPRK but their moves suffered a failure and setback in face of the DPRK's policy of toughest countermeasure based on its powerful military deterrent force.
The situation on the Korean Peninsula this year again teaches the lesson that the U.S. does not seek a solution to the nuclear issue and the establishment of peaceful relations between the two countries and it is, therefore, necessary to fight against it with arms to the last.
The U.S. would be well advised to draw a lesson from the trend of the situation on the peninsula this year and opt for making a switchover in its hostile policy toward the DPRK and peacefully co-existing with it.

Dissolution of GNP Urged

Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a statement on December 9 in demand of the dissolution of the south Korean Grand National Party which was opposed to the repeal of the "National Security Law (NSL)." Branding the GNP as the principal criminal standing in the way of the abolition of the NSL, the statement said that, if the party were left alone, the danger of nuclear holocaust on the nation would be increased by the confrontational policy of this group toeing the U.S. line, not to speak of the abolition of the evil law.
It urged all the people to get united and turn out in the struggle to remove the GNP group and pro-U.S. ultra-right conservative forces.
In another development, the Solidarity of Youth and Students for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration issued a statement denouncing the GNP for creating quite a stir with the "political color" accusation, while cooking up a "spy case" after twisting and turning in a desperate bid to block the presentation of a bill on the repeal of the NSL at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the south Korean National Assembly. It appealed to all to turn out in the fight for the dissolution of the GNP.

The Japanese authorities, however, disallowed the entry into Japan of the DPRK delegation made up of bereaved families of those victims and persons concerned for its participation in the seminar and a memorial service.

A report on the investigation done by the group was delivered and there was a briefing on the work.
The reporter and other speakers asserted that the issue of remains of those victims is an issue aimed to restore their honor as early as possible.
They urged the Japanese authorities to probe the truth behind the past crimes and sincerely repent of them so as to prevent their repetition and make adequate compensation to the bereaved families.
They underlined the need for NGOs in the north and the south of Korea and in Japan to boost cooperation and solidarity in the investigation.

Anti-NSL Struggle Grows Stronger in S. Korea

Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The struggle for the abolition of the "National Security Law" (NSL) has become fiercer in south Korea. Voices demanding a total repeal of the evil law are ringing out from throughout south Korea and many organizations have been formed to this end.
NSL was enacted by the Syngman Rhee puppet regime in December 1, 1948 on the model of the "Maintenance of the Public Order Act" aimed at suppressing the anti-Japanese activists in the period of the Japanese imperialist colonial rule. It has become the fascist law unprecedented in the world's legislative history, after being changed for the worse again and again.
It defines the north of Korea and progressive organizations of overseas Koreans as "anti-state organizations" and fellow countrymen in the north and abroad affiliated with them as "members of anti-state organizations". It also calls for punishing all those who "praise, inspire and sympathize with the anti-state organizations" or "benefit them".
The successive rulers of south Korea have used the anti-democratic, anti-human rights and anti-reunification law as means of executing their treacherous and flunkeyist policies and prolonging their days in power.
They cooked up non-existent "cases" and arrested and killed a large number of pro-reunification champions and patriotic students, availing themselves of this law. Progressive, dissident organizations which had been active in south Korea for the democratization and independence of society have fallen victim to this law as "enemy-benefitting organizations".
It has become an irresistible trend in south Korea to fight against NSL.
The anti-NSL struggle involved only some circles and some organizations including religious, human rights and civic organizations in the past.
But it is now being staged throughout south Korea, participated in by broad sections of people, with their desire for independence, democracy and reunification growing stronger and the south Korean people being well aware of the true colors of NSL after the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration was made public.
NSL no longer has a raison d'etre.

Kang Po, Mathematician of Koryo

Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- Mathematics has been developed on a high level in Korea from olden times. Kang Po, a mathematician and astronomer of Koryo (918~1392), found out an interpolation of higher degree already in the 14th century and thus made a great contribution to the development of mathematics and astronomy.
He introduced into the observation of the celestial sphere movement the interpolation for calculating the deviation between its average angle movement and its actual angle movement. It made it possible to ensure the accuracy in measuring the positions of the sun and planets at any date (time) with already observed materials.
The interpolation, which is now being used in astronomy and other fields, was applied to astronomical calculation in Korea already at that time.
Recorded in "Susiryok Chobpobribsong" Vol. 3, a book written by Kang Po in 1343, are the calculation method and mathematical table which were used in working out "Susiryok" (ephemeris) in the period of Koryo. And the books "The History of Koryo" Vol.5 and "The Complete History of Korea" Vol. 7 mention that cubic interpolation was used as a calculation method.
For example, the cubic interpolation formula of F(X) marking deviation on X day is F(X) 「{Em-(CmX+Dm)X}X.
All this clearly proves that Korea has a long history of mathematics.
