Kim Jong Il's Work Lauded

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- Romesh Chandra, honorary president of the World Peace Council, issued a statement on July 29 on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the publication of leader Kim Jong Il's famous work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification". He said in the statement the work serves as a great banner for reunification and patriotism as it encourages all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas to turn out in the struggle to implement Kim Il Sung's instructions for national reunification.
    He continued:
In the work Kim Jong Il made an overall review of the immortal exploits Kim Il Sung performed by opening up a bright future of national reunification.
He, on this basis, formulated the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point program of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for establishing the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo set forth by the President as the three charters for national reunification, providing a strong mainstay for national reunification.
He made public this work and has since wisely led the struggle to put it into practice, thereby realizing the historic Pyongyang meeting and providing the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and opening up a new chapter in the Korean nation's history in which the Koreans are working hard to achieve independent reunification by their concerted efforts.
He expressed the belief that the Korean people would achieve national reunification, cherished desire of the nation, guided by the spirit of the declaration under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Troop Dispatch Scheme Denounced in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- Figures of civic and social organizations in south Korea reportedly called a press conference near Chongwadae on July 30 and condemned the south Korean authorities for their scheme to force troop dispatch to Iraq. Ri Su Ho, chairman of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, O Jong Ryol, permanent chairman of the south Korean Alliance for Democracy and Reunification, and other speakers at the press conference said it was intolerable for the south Korean authorities to try to force troop dispatch to Iraq, crying for south Korea-U.S. alliance. They declared they would not stop their struggle until additional troop dispatch was dropped.
The press release issued at the conference asked: Would the authorities remain loud-mouthed about "the interests of the country and the south Korea-U.S. alliance" even if south Korean civilians and soldiers were killed in Iraq?
The participants chanted the slogans: "We denounce the government for forcing ruinous troop dispatch" and "Let all people unite and check additional troop dispatch". Religious organizations including the south Korean Young Buddhists Association and the south Korean Buddhist Students Association called a press conference at the citizens' park in Seoul on the same day and held that the decision on troop dispatch must be retracted and the "Sohui" and "Jema" units be withdrawn from Iraq in compliance with the desire of all the people.
It was declared at the press conference that a relay-style march for the withdrawal of the decision on troop dispatch would take place everyday in front of the U.S. embassy. The press conference was followed by a march.

20th Anniv. of Movement for Production of August 3 Consumer Goods Observed

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held in Pyongyang Monday to mark the 20th anniversary of the movement for the production of August 3 consumer goods, a Korean-style mass drive of consumer goods production initiated by leader Kim Jong Il. Kim Jong Il visited a Pyongyang exhibition of light industrial goods on August 3, Juche 73 (1984). He saw consumer goods of wide variety which national light industrial factories and districts and counties of the city had produced by tapping and using inner reserves and potentials and highly praised them. And he set forth important tasks to be fulfilled to make substantial contributions to the improvement of the people's living through an all-people movement for the production of consumer goods.
Vice-Premier of the Cabinet Kwak Pom Gi in his report said the start of the movement opened a broad avenue for raising the production of consumer goods both in quantity and quality in a short time with the participation of all the people by putting to effective use all the reserves and potentials in all regions and fields of the country.
He recalled that Kim Jong Il energetically guided the movement so that it could be waged vigorously on a massive and nation-wide scale.
Noting that the movement has displayed great vitality in the light industrial revolution and the improvement of the people's living in the past two decades for its originality and validity, he referred to concrete tasks arising in lifting the production of consumer goods to a new, higher stage.
Present at the meeting were Premier of the Cabinet Pak Pong Ju, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Han Song Ryong, Chairman of the State Planning Commission Kim Kwang Rin, Minister of Light Industry Ri Ju O and others.

Exhibition of August 3 Consumer Goods

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- An exhibition of August 3 consumer goods is now open at the People's Palace of Culture. Exhibited there are consumer goods produced by work teams engaged in the production of August 3 consumer goods at factories and enterprises across the country, housewives work teams of ris, townships and workers settlements (dongs), sideline work teams in the fields of agriculture and fisheries, production teams of city and county (district) direct sales shops using idle materials and home workers.
Over 50,000 pieces of garments, ironware, electrical appliances, grass goods, wooden articles, local farm products and minor goods of 7,000 kinds or more are displayed, divided into provincial sections.
The consumer goods fully meet the tastes of the Koreans and their requirements in daily life in their utility and shapes.
。。The high technical level and talent of the producers are well shown, among other things, in Korean chima and jogori, costumes and hats for four seasons, children's dresses, big and small bags and various kinds of shoes catering to modern sense of beauty.
Attracting women's interests are receptacles and kitchen utensils made of willow, bamboo, hemp, sedge plant, corn-shuck, alabaster, granite and other locally-available materials.

S. Korean Organizations Urge Liquidation of Past

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- Representatives of over 300 civic and public organizations in south Korea reportedly held a press conference of all civic and public organizations for urging the right liquidation of the past at a citizens' park of Kwanghwamun in Seoul on July 29. The press conference was called to castigate the Grand National Party for openly opposing the revision of the "special law on probing the truth behind the pro-Japanese and anti-national actions" and the "law on probing the truth behind the suspicious deaths".
A press release read out at the press conference expressed indignation over the GNP's action of alleging the liquidation of the wrong past as the killing of the opposition party. It demanded that the government and the ruling party discontinue political compromise with the GNP and make firm their will to liquidate the past.
It is time for us to establish legal and structural mechanism for more thorough liquidation of the past, the press release said, stressing that the people would resolutely brave the GNP moves with might and main.
Speakers said that liquidating the wrong past means building a society where the nation has become one. They warned that if the government opposes the liquidation of the past it would not evade the historical responsibility for it.
After the press conference the representatives presented a written protest each to Chongwadae and the GNP.

Total Pullback of U.S. Forces from S. Korea Demanded

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The U.S. moves to "cut down" its forces in south Korea is nothing but a wicked ruse to perpetuate its military presence in south Korea and colonial domination over it and make the south Korean authorities meekly accept its brigandish demands including additional troop dispatch to Iraq, observes Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a signed commentary. The commentary goes on:
The U.S. had unilaterally decided on the timetable for the "reduction" of its forces in south Korea at a time when the anti-American sentiment was mounting among the south Koreans and raised all of a sudden the issue of readjusting the timetable on which it has so far insisted. Lurking behind these moves is a sinister aim.
The U.S. had informed the south Korean authorities that it would "cut down" its forces in south Korea by over 10,000 till the end of 2005 without any agreement with them. But the U.S. made an about-turn in its attitude about a month later and announced the "delay" of the "reduction." This creates a strong impression that the U.S. intends to use the "reduction" as a bargaining chip or as a leverage to intimidate one in a bid to achieve a certain aim.
It has now become clear that the U.S. administration announced the "reduction" of its aggressor troops in south Korea not because it is urgent but it was prompted by its intention to create "security unrest" in south Korean society floating a shocking story about "reduction." Through this it sought to browbeat the south Korean authorities and calm down the anti-American public opinion in order to save its dominating position in south Korea from shaking to its very foundation.
The south Korean authorities have begged the U.S. to put off the "cutdown" of its forces in south Korea, taken in by its trick. This is a crime against the nation, reunification and peace as it betrays the dignity and interests of the nation and brings dark clouds of a war of aggression against the north.
The south Korean people should see through the criminal aim hidden behind the U.S. plan to "reduce" its forces and turn out as one to force the U.S. to withdraw all its aggressor troops from south Korea.

KPA Praised as Matchless Revolutionary Army

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- One can hardly find in the world an army so strong in revolutionary spirit and in organization, discipline and collectivist spirit as the Korean People's Army. It is the ranks united steel-like in revolutionary comradeship and sense of obligation, which are merciless to the aggressors attempting to encroach upon the sovereignty and dignity of the nation, but are ready to lay down their lives for the people Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed article, which reads in part: The KPA is a matchless revolutionary army which has won all the fights with imperialism.
Born in the flames of anti-imperialist struggle, the KPA is armed ranks which have fought death-defying battles on the forefronts where confrontation between revolution and counter-revolution and socialism and imperialism is most acute. And it is proud revolutionary armed forces which have successfully fulfilled the heavy duty they assumed before the times on the forefront of the anti-imperialist military front, taking upon themselves responsibility for the destiny of the country, the nation and socialism. The might and pride of the KPA lie in that it worked miracles of winning victories in all battles, not knowing a single defeat on the anti-imperialist military front most acute ever known.
Our revolutionary armed forces, after their foundation, defeated huge armies of the Japanese imperialists, the most ferocious and brutal robbers, and the U.S. imperialists who boasted of their being "the strongest" in the world and their satellite forces.
As the powerful KPA has stood guard on the anti-imperialist military front in do-or-die spirit, the dignity of the nation and peace have been able to be defended for a long period of over half a century since the ceasefire in this land and the socialist revolutionary position be consolidated like an impregnable fortress.
The might of the KPA has increased beyond measure under the banner of Songun. Under the Songun leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, it has grown to be a revolutionary army possessed of offensive and defensive means powerful to drive back any formidable enemy at one blow.
It is reliably defending Korean-style socialism at the outpost of the anti-imperialist military front today.
It has grown to be an invincible revolutionary army wining one victory after another on this front as it has been led by the great brilliant commanders of Mt. Paektu

The goodwill envoy of the Cambodian people was seen off at the airport by many Pyongyangites.
A farewell function took place at the airport.
Among the farewell-bidders were Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Kwak Pom Gi, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Ri Yong Son, minister of Commerce who is chairman of the Korea-Cambodia Friendship Association, Choe Su Hon, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and other officials concerned.
Also on hand were Wu Donghe, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, staff members of the Cambodian embassy.

U.S. and S. Korean Authorities Hit for Their Allurement and Abduction of North Koreans Abroad

Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA Tuesday as regards the recent allurement and abduction of many northerners abroad to south Korea: Recently the south Korean authorities, at the U.S. instigation and under its command, faked up the so-called "massive defection of northerners and their transfer." They took away hundreds of northerners, mainly women and children, to south Korea in groups after alluring them to Vietnam via the vicinity of the DPRK on a phased basis.
As a matter of fact, most of the northerners whom they described as "defectors from the north" are those who fell victim to the allurement tactics of the enemy's spy organs after going to Northeast China for a visit to their relatives.
It is by no means accidental that this case was faked up in less a week after the "bill on human rights in north Korea" envisaging fabulous "financial aid" to the "defectors from the north" was passed through the U.S. House of Representatives.
U.S. media are making much fuss, as if they had been waiting for the opportunity to occur, that the wholesale defection of north Koreans proves bankruptcy of the north Korean regime's education, information activities and control over its citizens. They cry for joy that it would be a best scenario if this leads to the collapse of north Korea.
This clearly proves that the recent case was, to all intents and purposes, a product of the U.S. hostile DPRK policy whose ultimate aim is to topple its political system and it was prompted by the deliberate intention of dishonest elements in south Korea desirous of discord and confrontation between the north and the south.
What should not be overlooked is that Vietnam conspired with them in this case.
The DPRK has information enough to prove that Vietnam was involved in the plot of the U.S. and the south Korean authorities to allure and abduct citizens of the DPRK.
Through its involvement in the case Vietnam self-exposed that it can stoop to any perfidious action, discarding elementary sense of obligation and morality between the states, in order to meet its own interests.
The DPRK will certainly make non-governmental organizations in some countries pay for their flesh traffic worldwide as they have been engrossed in threatening, alluring and trading off DPRK citizens under the signboard of humanitarianism at the instigation of the U.S.
The U.S. seems to calculate that it can use the issue of "defectors" for bringing down the DPRK as it did erstwhile East European countries. This is, however, as foolish an act as trying to put an end to the sun.
No issue between the DPRK and the U.S., to say nothing of the nuclear issue, can be settled unless the U.S. fundamentally drops its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
