Hanchongryon Opposes Opening of Rice Market

Pyongyang, July 18 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) reportedly made public a statement on July 13 in support of the grand march of peasants across south Korea for defending the food sovereignty and making the decision on troop dispatch withdrawn. The grand march of peasants which started on Jeju Island is a march to prevent the opening of rice market, defend the food sovereignty of the nation, foil the U.S. pressure for an additional troop dispatch and defend the sovereignty of the nation, the statement said.
Services of Hanchongryon-affiliated students in rural areas helped them to know well the present reality of agriculture and why they defend Korean rice, the statement said, adding that to protect rice means to protect agriculture and defend the life of the Korean nation.
There should be no distinction among peasants, students and people as far as the struggle against the opening of rice market is concerned, the statement said, stressing that the students under Hanchongryon will protect rice and agriculture together with peasants.

Functions Held at DPRK Missions

Pyongyang, July 18 (KCNA) -- Meetings to remember President Kim Il Sung, film shows and roundtable talks were held at DPRK missions in Poland, Uzbekistan, Peru, Germany, Democratic Congo and Egypt from June 23 to July 8 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his demise. "He is always in the Heart of Humankind" and other DPRK films were screened at film shows.
The vice-minister of Culture of Uzbekistan at the meeting said that Kim Il Sung was the great leader who trained the diligent Korean people to be patriotic, talented and heroic people who love their country and know how to protect and develop their factories and culture.
The secretary general of the Peruvian Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea and the chairman of the Peruvian Group for the Study of Kimilsungism praised Kim Il Sung as the most outstanding man in the 20th century who defeated the U.S. and Japanese imperialisms in one generation, turned the once backward colonial Korea into a powerful socialist country, independent, self-supporting and self-reliant in national defence, and made distinguished contributions to accomplishing the human cause of independence.
Kim Il Sung is a paragon of the people's leader who authored the Juche idea for the first time in history, the idea that one should make a revolution independently with one's own brain by relying on the popular masses and enlisting their strength. He always found himself among the masses to grasp what they wanted and the actual conditions and reflect them in policies, thus guiding the revolution without making any error or mistake in working out lines, they noted.

Communique of KPA Navy Command

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The Navy Command of the Korean People's Army Friday published a communique as regards the south Korean army's evermore undisguised moves for military provocations in the West Sea of Korea and intensified propaganda against the north. It says:
As already known, the south Korean army announced that a patrol boat of the north side "infiltrated" into the "northern limit line" 0.7 mile at around 5 p.m. Wednesday and combat warships of the south side fired warning shots in the air to check its intrusion after serving warning over loudspeaker. Then it released a false report that the patrol boat of the north side sailed back 14 minutes after the firing of warning shots.
What should not be overlooked is the fact that the south Korean army decided to lodge a strong protest with the north side against this at the 3rd North-South Military Working Talks expected to be held soon.
The north cannot but clarify its stand on the smear campaign going beyond the limit of tolerance.
In a word, the south Korean army's much publicized "case of intrusion" by a patrol boat of the north side is nothing but a sheer lie and a deceptive farce.
There was not a single patrol boat of the north side that sailed in the waters and at the time mentioned by the south Korean military and in the surrounding waters.
This notwithstanding, the south Korean military is working hard to mislead the public opinion by spreading misinformation. This improper behavior diametrically runs counter to the measure taken at the inter-Korean military talks to ease the military tension. This cannot but be construed otherwise than a sinister aim to persistently insist on the bogus "northern limit line" drawn by foreign forces and incite the north-south confrontation.
The false report and smear campaign against the north are nothing beneficial to the development of the north-south relations and the relaxation of the military tension between them.
As a matter of fact, the intrusion of south Korean combat warships into the territorial waters of the north side has not ceased but become pronounced since steps were taken by the two sides to prevent the clash of combat warships in the West Sea from June 15.
It is preposterous for the south Korean military authorities to intensify the military provocations that may lead to armed clashes, while vociferating about the prevention of them at the conference table. This is as foolish an act as playing with fire.
There is a limit to the self-restraint and patience of the navymen of the north.
If the south Korean army persists in its military provocations, misjudging the changed situation, it will entail irretrievable serious consequences.
The north warns the south Korean military authorities not to act rashly, clearly mindful that they will have to pay a high price for their reckless moves to kick up a new row of military confrontation, toeing the U.S.line.

Reminiscences of Kim Il Sung "With the Century" Published in Italy

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The first volume of Part 1 (The Anti-Japanese Revolution) of the reminiscences of President Kim Il Sung "With the Century" was published in Italy. A ceremony of releasing the book was held in Rome on July 7. On display in the venue of the ceremony were famous works of Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, the first volume of "With the Century" brought out in Italy, other Korean books and photos.
Michele Capuano, general secretary of the People's United Democracy-Unity Left Wing of Italy, in his speech at the ceremony said the reminiscences helped him realize that the exploits performed by Kim Il Sung in the revolutionary struggle, the idea of united front, the struggle to win popular masses and the experience in the struggle to build revolutionary organizations and their expansion, in particular, serve as a precious boon which his party should take as guidelines.
Miriam Pelegrini Feri, president of the Group of Dialectical Materialists of Italy, noted that the publication of the reminiscences in Italian is of significance not only for Italy but for the world.
Mateo Carboneli, vice-chairman of the Italy-DPRK Association for Friendship and Cooperation and vice-chairman of the Italian Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea, said that the association and the committee would avidly read the valuable book written by the President and widely distribute it.

S. Korean Workers' Campaign against Troop Dispatch Supported

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) released a statement titled "We extend positive support to workers in their campaign for checking the troop dispatch" on July 12, according to a news report. Referring to the fact that the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions has been on all-out campaign to oppose the troop dispatch in demand of the "government's" overall re-examination of the troop dispatch to Iraq since June 29, the statement noted that this campaign is patriotic resistance against the U.S. brigandish pressure for troop dispatch and the sycophantic submission of the south Korean authorities and a just and courageous action to protect the lives of the people.
Denouncing the authorities for labeling the workers' campaign as an illegal action, it said that they can never arrest the workers' struggle and the authorities' intensified crackdown will only strengthen the solidarity and unity of the people from all walks of life.
Reiterating the positive support of Hanchongryon to the workers in their campaign for checking the troop dispatch, the statement declared that it would join the workers in their relentless struggle against the troop dispatch.

Opening of Rice Market Opposed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea including the National Federation of Peasants Associations(Jonnong), the National People's Solidarity and the National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification held a press conference in Seoul on July 13 to declare food sovereignty in order to protect locally produced rice, according to a press report. Mun Kyong Sik, chairman of Jonnong, Jo Yong Suk, director general of the Federation of Women's Organizations, and others in their speeches chided the authorities for making the opening of rice market an established fact and called for all people's solidarity to have demands of the peasants met.
Terming the protection of food sovereignty an important matter related to keep the people alive, they declared that people from all walks of life would turn out in the struggle against the opening of rice market.
A declaration of all people on the above-said action was issued at the press conference.
Prior to the press conference the organizations held a preparatory meeting to inaugurate the headquarters of all people's movement to defend the food sovereignty in order to protect locally produced rice.

Anti-U.S. Solidarity Rally in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification in south Korea and the People's Action for the Revision of the Unequal South Korea-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement reportedly held the 58th anti-U.S. solidarity rally at Kwanghwamun in Seoul on July 13. At the rally Permanent Representative of the People's Action Mun Jong Hyon and other speakers denounced the government for having decided to dispatch troops, bowing to the U.S. pressure, and said the troop dispatch should be certainly checked.
They insisted that the transfer of the U.S. military base from Ryongsan to Phyongthaek can never be allowed as it is to meet the military strategic requirement of the U.S. for starting a war of aggression against the north.
They expressed indignation at the Ministry of National Defense which has deceived the people by claiming that the building of apartment houses for families of U.S. troops in the Ryongsan base was financed out of the U.S. budget, despite the fact that taxes amounting to 27.6 billion won collected from inhabitants were spent for building them.
A resolution was read out at the rally.
The resolution said that the agreement on the negotiations on the transfer of the U.S. military base from Ryongsan should not be initialed as it reflects the U.S. unilateral demand.
The people will wage a powerful struggle for the repeal of the decision on troop dispatch and the U.S.-south Korea unreasonable special agreement on the share of defense spending, the resolution said, demanding an immediate stop to the U.S. moves for a reckless war of aggression against the north with F-117 Stealth fighter bombers involved.

End to U.S. Occupation of South Korea Urged

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The U.S. military occupation of south Korea and its policy of domination over it are a stumbling block lying in the way of the independent development of the south Korean society and the root cause of all misfortunes and pain the south Korean people are suffering, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed article. By origin, the U.S. military occupation of south Korea was illegal and brigandish aggression perpetrated without any reasonable ground and a wanton violation of the sovereignty of the Korean nation, the article says, and goes on:
The U.S. policy of dominating south Korea precisely means a colonial enslavement policy. The U.S. put all the fields of south Korea including politics, military, economy and culture under its control by imposing upon south Korea many shackling treaties and agreements such as " mutual defence treaty," "SOFA" and "agreement on economic aid."
The U.S. left no means untried to keep its colonial domination over south Korea after its military occupation. Whenever the struggle for independence against the U.S. and for democratization and national reunification mounted and the U.S. colonial fascist rule in south Korea faced a crisis it engineered an incident of usurping power like a coup, thus toppling regimes overnight. Such coups as "May 16 military coup" and "December 12 army purge coup" were carried out in the last century. The pro-U.S. conservative forces introduced a motion on "impeachment" before the 17th-term National Assembly election this year, backed by the U.S.
Unbearable are misfortunes and sufferings inflicted upon the south Korean people by the U.S. military occupation and colonial domination. The 50-odd-long year history of the U.S. occupation of south Korea is a history of man-slaughter and human rights abuses.
Countless is the number of the cases of brutal man-killings committed by the U.S. imperialist aggression forces. They include the "Kunsan shooting case" in which they shot to death a young girl who was plucking edible herbs, regarding her as a "pheasant", the "incident of throwing a boy in a wooden box from a helicopter" in which they branded a shoeshine boy in Puphyong as a thief and dismembered him before putting him into a wooden box and throwing him from a helicopter, the Phaju murder case in which they shot to death a peasant who was gathering firewood, considering him as "roe deer" and a firing case in which they tested M-16 rifles on several peasants, killing them in cold blood.
The people from all walks of life in south Korea should turn out as one in the struggle for independence against the U.S. in order to put a definite end to the U.S. policy of military occupation and domination and thus fully demonstrate the stamina of the resourceful and valiant Korean nation.

U.S. Mass Killings of Koreans Put Hitler's Crimes into Shade

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The mass killings of Koreans committed by the U.S. imperialists during the strategic temporary retreat of the Korean People's Army in the last Korean War put into the shade the massacre perpetrated by the fascist Hitler junta during the Second World War. Rodong Sinmun Saturday says this in a signed article. It goes on: The U.S. imperialist aggressor troops killed at least 120,000 innocent civilians in Hwanghae Province alone during their temporary occupation of it. In Sinchon County, GIs and class enemies killed at least 35,000 patriots and innocent civilians or a quarter of its population in a most brutal manner for over 50 days.
By the order issued by their boss to reduce everything alive and moving in Sinchon to ashes and bury them, GIs and class enemies employed every savage method beyond human imagination in killing people. They picked guiltless civilians to death, drove nails into their heads, sawed their necks, hung them on tree branches upside down before burning their heads, gouged their eyes and skinned them off and cut off the breasts of girls and women to death after raping them.
The investigation team of the Women's International Democratic Federation said in a report on its field investigation into GIs' atrocities in Korea in May 1951, said that such massacre and mass torture are more horrible than what was committed by the Hitler Nazis in Europe during their temporary occupation of it.
The U.S. imperialists committed such monstrous mass killings not only in the northern half of Korea but in south Korea.
Citing concrete facts to prove these atrocities of the U.S. imperialists, the article notes that the hard facts can neither be covered up nor erased.
The servicepersons and people of the DPRK can never forget these mass killings perpetrated by them during the Korean war but will force them to pay for the blood shed by Koreans, concludes the article.

Museum of Revolutionary Activities of Kim Hyong Jik Renamed

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK released a decree on renaming the Ponghwa Museum of Revolutionary Activities of Kim Hyong Jik the Ponghwa-ri Revolutionary Museum. The decree dated July 14 said that the museum of revolutionary activities of Kim Hyong Jik, a great pioneer who made a switchover from the nationalist movement to the proletarian revolution, was renamed the Ponghwa-ri Revolutionary Museum to convey his revolutionary spirit and exploits performed in the struggle to posterity.
Kim Hyong Jik formed the Korean National Association on March 23, Juche 6 (1917) and indicated a new way for the Korean nation to achieve unity and national independence by its concerted efforts and build a genuine civilized country. He energetically led the struggle to attain this goal, thus performing immortal exploits in the history of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea.
He was a great teacher as he provided a steady continuity to the Korean revolution and bequeathed to the history and the generation to come a valuable revolutionary heritage with which to start the revolutionary cause of Juche and bring about its victorious advance.
His revolutionary activities and exploits are recorded in the history of the Korean people's anti-Japanese national liberation movement and they will always remain shining in the nation's history.

Open Questionnaire Addressed to S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland and the National Reunification Institute issued an open questionnaire Saturday to condemn the south Korean authorities for their totally unjustified inhuman action taken to bar a non-governmental delegation from visiting Pyongyang to participate in the functions to honor the memory of President Kim Il Sung on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his demise. The five-point questionnaire asked the present south Korean "government for the people" if there is any difference between it and the former fascist "people's government."
Accusing the present authorities of disallowing even the visit of the non-governmental delegation to Pyongyang in disregard of etiquette, following in the footsteps of the fascist civilian government which took the similar action ten yeas ago when the President passed away, the questionnaire urged them to clarify in what they differ from that regime.
Recalling that recently a senior official of south Korea flew to the United States to offer condolences over the death of its former president, the questionnaire said:
But, the south Korean authorities disallowed the visit of a woman at her advanced age of 80 to the north aimed to pay homage to the President, paying no attention to the functions held by the fellow countrymen to honor the memory of the father of the nation. The questionnaire asked them if they have any national identity, conscience as members of the Korean nation and reason as human beings.
    The questionnaire continued:
Chongwadae disallowed the delegation's Pyongyang visit after issuing what it called "guidelines" in which it claimed that south Korea should not abandon laws and principles under the pretext of satisfying the north. This is little short of a total denial of the June 15 joint declaration which paved the way for multilateral cooperation and visits between the north and the south.
For the Korean nation there can be neither law nor principle above this charter.
The Security Law and the theory of principal enemy which regard fellow countrymen as an enemy should not be allowed to exist in the era after the publication of the historic June 15 joint declaration. Today the Koreans are vigorously advancing toward reconciliation, cooperation and reunification, pooling their efforts. However, the south Korean authorities are still invoking the SL and advocating the above-mentioned theory which labeled the northern part of the country where the fellow countrymen live as an anti-national organization and an enemy. The authorities are urged to give an answer to the question as to with whom they are going to cooperate and with whom they would like to work to reunify the country.
The south side carried out the special inspection of the case of remittance to the north last year, decrying the meeting of the top heads of the north and the south and the June 15 joint declaration and chilling the desire to improve the north-south relations. The recent deplorable action is a continuation of those criminal actions. This is little short of hamstringing the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and a declaration of its intention to bedevil the north-south relations.
The questionnaire asked the south side if it respects or negates the joint declaration and if it has a willingness to improve the inter-Korean relations.
Terming those questions as crucial ones directly related to the prospect of the inter-Korean relations raised by the nation, the questionnaire urged the south Korean authorities to admit the big blunder it has made, though belatedly, and give a clear answer to the nation by apologizing in any form and way.
