S. Korean Prosecution Authorities' Anti-Reunification Act under Fire

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in information bulletin No. 869 on May 5 assailed the south Korean prosecution authorities for demanding 10 years in prison and the same term of suspension of qualification for Min Kyong U, secretary general of the Reunification Solidarity. The bulletin termed this action an unpardonable anti-reunification act of rejecting the reconciliation, unity and reunification of the nation and throwing a grave obstacle in the way of implementing the June 15 joint declaration and an outrageous move to stamp out the daily mounting patriotic movement for reunification in south Korea. Min has done nothing but made energetic efforts to realize the national reunification movement and put more spurs to it in the past, the bulletin said, adding this action of the south Korean prosecution authorities was a premeditated and deliberate move to quell the daily growing desire for the alliance with the north and for reunification and stamp out the patriotic forces for reunification.
The bulletin branded the south Korean prosecution authorities' suppression of Min as an unpardonable challenge to the desire and will of the fellow countrymen to achieve the independent reunification of the country through national cooperation in the idea of "By our nation itself."
It demanded the south Korean prosecution authorities opt for repealing the "Security Law", notorious fascist law, as required by the era and nation and take an immediate measure to acquit Min.

S. Korea-Japan Negotiations on Conclusion of Free Trade Agreement Rejected

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The National Solidarity Council of Students reportedly made public a statement on April 28, rejecting the south Korea-Japan negotiations on the conclusion of an agreement on free trade. If the agreement is concluded, food, energy, health, medical service, education, communications and other necessary sectors for the people's living would be privatized and commercialized to become targets of capitalists' moneymaking, the statement said, and stressed:
The content of the agreement, which is being pushed forward in secret, calls for promoting "liberalization" in all sectors and what is most serious is that it is aimed to force an anti-workers measure upon south Korea.
If the authorities give no ear to the people's voices demanding a stop to the negotiations, they will run up to the strong protest of people from all walks of life.
The organization will continue to wage the struggle against the agreement in solidarity with the workers and peasants and the world people.

KCNA on Ever-Increasing Military Threat from U.S.

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The United States is reported to have planned to deploy two battalions of latest type Patriot interceptor missiles in south Korea this year. South Korea is expected to organize an anti-air defence brigade in 2006 with these two battalions as its backbone.
The projected formation of the brigade is part of "arms buildup plan" announced by the U.S. Defense Department last year. The plan envisages spending $11 billion for the beef-up of its military capability in south Korea.
The U.S. claims that the deployment of missiles in south Korea is of defensive nature as it is aimed to cope with possible ballistic missile and air strikes from someone. But this is, in fact, just part of its aggressive and offensive military buildup plan for the invasion of the DPRK.
The U.S. designated the DPRK as a target of its "preemptive attack" and has massively shipped modern military hardware into south Korea since its self-proclaimed end of the Iraqi war, thus converting south Korea into the biggest arsenal in the Far East and ceaselessly increasing its military threat to Pyongyang.
Last year the U.S. additionally inducted at least 20 new type Longbow AH-64D helicopters into a battalion of Apache helicopters of the U.S. 6th cavalry brigade stationed in south Korea. Then it replaced some PAC-2 by latest type PAC-3.
Its massive shipment of the latest combat equipment into south Korea also included more than 10 fighter bombers, a U-2, 6 F-117 Stealth bombers, one wing of F-15E fighters, one Shadow 200.
Nearly 30 nuclear-powered submersibles have already been deployed by the U.S. in waters off the Asia-Pacific region under the simulated conditions of an "emergency" on the Korean peninsula. It also deployed 24 B-52 and B-1 in Guam under the same pretext this year.
It even announced a plan to begin deploying for an actual war latest type destroyer Aegis equipped with a missile interceptor system in the East Sea of Korea from September to come and round off its establishment of the naval missile interceptor system by the end of 2005.
These disturbing military moves of the U.S. are a major factor of straining the situation on the Korean peninsula and sparking military tension and arms race in the region.
The DPRK is following with utmost vigilance the U.S. deployment of ultra-modern military means and its escalated military threat to the DPRK stepped up behind the scene of dialogue and bracing for a possible provocation.

KCNA Blasts Reckless Remarks of South Korean Right-Wing Conservatives

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Members of the "group of National Assemblymen who proposed the motion on the impeachment" mainly including riff-raffs of the south Korean Grand National Party in their final pleading for impeachment held at the Constitutional Court in south Korea on April 30 did not bother to let loose a string of unsavory remarks malignantly slandering the dignified political system in the DPRK. They argued that "an impeachment trial is the only way of containing the president" and even pulled up the north over the accident at Ryongchon Railway Station in North Phyongan Province. This is an unpardonable political provocation against the north and a shrill cry made by those forsaken by the nation before the hour of their death.
The DPRK's political system is the most advantageous, popular and dignified one envied and praised by the world people. Such act of slandering the political system in the north instead of expressing sympathy with the victims of the disaster cannot be interpreted otherwise than an inhuman rash act that can be perpetrated only by the political gangsters crazy for power.
As the accident at Ryongchon Railway Station claimed huge human and material losses, governments of different countries and international bodies and organizations are sending messages of sympathy and relief goods to them from the sincere stand of humanitarianism and many south Korean organizations are rendering disinterested aid to them.
This being a hard reality, those politicians are groundlessly speaking ill of the north over the disaster suffered by fellow countrymen, still not away from the old way of thinking. This only strips bare their true colors as snobs forsaken by the nation.
They deserve condemnation and curse by the whole nation as they found fault even with the political system in the north over the accident of fellow countrymen in a bid to incite enmity and confrontation, feigning ignorance of a chain of big accidents in south Korea.
The returns of the recent "general election" dramatically changed the political scene in south Korea and made it hard for them to exist any longer. It is a gross miscalculation for them to think their anti-north smear campaign would help them get out of this pretty fix.
Poisonous herbs should be rooted out without delay.
The south Korean people should eliminate at once the ultra right conservatives, cancer-like elements and poisonous herbs standing in the way of national reconciliation and unity and reunification of the country, toeing the line of foreign forces.
The north will certainly settle accounts with those who slandered its system this time.

Book "Hong Pom Do" Off Press

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The Kum Song Youth Publishing House has recently published the full-length biographical book "Hong Pom Do". Hong Pom Do was the commander of a volunteer army who fought at home and abroad to liberate the country from the Japanese imperialists for many years from his twenties to advanced age.
He died in an alien land at the age of 75 in October Juche 32 (1943) before the liberation of the country, which he desired so ardently.
His life, however, has been well known in the Korean history under deep care of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.
They said time and again that biographical novels should be written about Hong Pom Do and other illustrious persons and commanders of Korea to let posterity know about them.
The book about Hong Pom Do, who failed to achieve his goal though he loved the country so ardently, gives the readers a serious lesson that, without an outstanding leader, neither any illustrious commander nor a rifle of justice can display their might.

Unconditional Release of Ex-Chief Secretary of Chongwadae Called for

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Pak Ji Won, ex-chief secretary of Chongwadae in south Korea, has not yet received proper medical treatment owing to the inhuman attitude of the authorities though he is in the danger of completely losing eyesight due to the deteriorating disease in one of his eyes, too, behind bars. A spokesman for the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee Thursday gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA in this regard:
As already reported, Pak Ji Won was reported to have been in the danger of completely losing his eyesight as the disease in one of his eyes took a turn for the worse in prison after his left eye got blind because of glaucoma long ago. Pak rendered his service for the historic Pyongyang meeting and the publication of the June 15 joint declaration.
His right eye suffered from glaucoma owing to the deterioration of his health resulting from the bad living circumstances, an unbroken chain of trials, psychological pain, etc. in Seoul prison after he was thrown behind bars in June last year. As a consequence he underwent four ophthalmic operations. For the final hearing on his appeal on February 23 he had to enter the court on a four-wheel with his eye in bandage after the operation and Ringer's solution injection needle remaining unremoved from his arm.
He asked for the medical treatment so that his eye disease might not turn for the worse, saying that he is in the danger of losing the sight of his right eye, too, owing to the daily deteriorating eye disease. Doctors say that he is highly likely to completely lose his eyesight.
The south Korean court, however, made a decision of one-month-long suspension of imprisonment on May 4 which allows him to receive treatment, detained in a hospital. Worse still, the prosecution is opposed to the decision, claiming that he may get treatment, visiting the hospital from prison.
This is a harsh persecution and suppression of and an inhuman action against the man who performed a great feat on behalf of the nation by contributing to the historic Pyongyang meeting.
We cannot remain a passive on-looker to what happened to his health as he was involved in the Pyongyang meeting.
We, therefore, hope for an early recovery of his health and, at the same time, urge the south Korean authorities to take his poor health into consideration and unconditionally set him free so that he may receive medical treatment in peace, not detained in prison or hospital.
