Reception in Honour of Indonesian Foreign Minister

    Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government hosted a reception in honor of Nur Hassan Wirayuda, foreign minister of Indonesia, and his party on a visit to the DPRK at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Saturday evening. Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun in a speech said that it is the consistent stand of the DPRK government to set store by the relations with Indonesia and expand and develop them in all aspects, adding that it will as ever make positive efforts to further consolidate and develop the bilateral relations to meet the requirements of the new century.
    Noting it is well known that the government and people of Indonesia are making all efforts for the territorial integrity of the country, social unity and economic reinvigoration, he stressed that the Korean people sincerely wish the friendly Indonesian government and people a new success in the work for the building of a new just and prosperous society, peace and security in Southeast Asia and the strengthening and development of the non-aligned movement.
    Nur Hassan Wirayuda in a speech said that Indonesia and the DPRK are geographically far away from each other but the friendly relations between them have a long history, noting that the solid foundation of the friendly relations was provided by President Kim Il Sung and President Sukarno and the friendly ties have steadily been developed by leader Kim Jong Il and President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
    The friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and two peoples hold an important place in guaranteeing the security of the Asia-Pacific region, he said, adding that the Indonesian government has always supported the DPRK and will makepositive efforts to develop the bilateral friendly relations in the future, too.


Congratulations to Greek Prime Minister

    Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, sent a congratulatory message to Konstantinos Karamanlis upon his appointment as prime minister of Greece. Extending warm congratulations to him, the message wished him a great success in his responsible work for the stability and the development of the country and the well-being of the Greek people.

Large Mosaic Erected at Ryongsong Machine Complex

    Hungnam, May 1 (KCNA) -- A large mosaic "The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung giving guidance to the manufacture of a 6,000-ton press" has been erected at the Ryongsong Machine Complex. The mosaic 12.5 m wide and 13.2 m high portrays President Kim Il Sung encouraging the workers of Ryongsong to effect fresh innovations and great exploits in the production of a 6,000-ton press, greatly satisfied with them capable of manufacturing any large machine.
    A ceremony of unveiling the mosaic took place at the spot on Saturday.
    Present at the ceremony were Hong Song Nam, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and officials and employees of the complex.


National Meeting Held to Mark 114th May Day

    Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the Pyongyang Textile Mill on Saturday to mark the 114th May Day. Present at the meeting were Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, and Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
    Ryom Sun Gil, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, in a report said that the Korean working class has fulfilled its sacred mission and duty for the Party and the revolution in the whole historic course of resolutely defending and triumphantly advancing the socialist cause of Juche under the wise guidance of the great leader and Party.
    Though the struggle of the working class and people of Korea for sovereignty, independence and socialism was unprecedentedly arduous and hard, they could have created an ever-victorious history while overcoming manifold trials of history as they hold President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il at the head of the revolution, the reporter said, and continued:
    It is the greatest fortune and glory of the Korean working class to have Kim Jong Il, defender of the socialist cause and the sun of the 21st century, at the head of the revolution and advance with pride while glorifying the new era of the revolution of Juche as a sacred era of Songun under his leadership.
    He called for making a revolutionary offensive to occupy a high goal of building a great prosperous powerful nation under the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il, bringing about the heyday of the prosperous motherland and hastening national reunification and victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche.
    He said that all the working class should become vanguard fighters and Songun revolutionary comrades who defend Kim Jong Il politically and ideologically at the cost of their lives and implement his ideas and intention without an inch of deflection.
    The reporter called upon the working class to take the lead in strengthening the military power of the country in every way by organizing all the work on the principle of attaching priority to military affairs, firmly defend the socialist gains with thorough class consciousness and anti-imperialist fighting spirit and get ready for a sacred struggle for defending their motherland in any adversity by forming workers' divisions and regiments as in the 1950s.
    The Korean working class and people will as ever sternly struggle in defence of the sovereignty of the nation and global peace and against the U.S. imperialists' arbitrariness and high-handed practices in close unity with the world revolutionary people in the idea of independence, peace and friendship and fulfill their sacred international duty for human cause of independence and the socialist cause, he concluded.


Pak Pong Ju Meets Co-heads of S. Korean Delegation

    Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, met Senior Vice-chairman of the (south) Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Kang Sung Gyu and Chairman of the Emergency Measure Committee of the Federation of (south) Korean Trade Unions Pak Hon Su, who are co-heads of the delegation of the south Korean trade unions, and leading members of the delegation at the People's Palace of Culture Saturday. Present were Ryom Sun Gil, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, and other officials concerned.
    A conversation proceeded in a compatriotic atmosphere.


Talks Held between Foreign Ministers of DPRK and Indonesia

    Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Talks were held between DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun and his Indonesian counterpart Nur Hassan Wirayuda at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on May 1. Present at the talks from the DPRK side were officials concerned and from the opposite side were the foreign minister's party and officials of the Indonesian embassy here.
    At the talks both sides exchanged views on further developing the friendly relations between the two countries and a series of matters of mutual concern.
    The talks proceeded in a friendly atmosphere.


Korean Workers Observe May Day

    Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The Korean workers significantly observed May Day. Workers laid bunches of flowers and made a bow before the statues of President Kim Il Sung in different parts of the country.
    Pyongyang citizens enjoyed May Day.
    People in Mangyongdae District and Phyongchon District played colorful sports and amusement games at Mangyongdae Fun Fair, those in Taesong District and Sosong District at Taesongsan Pleasure Ground and those in Tongdaewon District, Songyo District, Sadong District and Ryokpho District at Pleasure Ground on Rungna Islet.
    People in Central District enjoyed colorful folk games including Korean wrestling, Korean chess and yut-game under the Ulmil Pavilion on Moran Hill, and railway transport workers played mass rhythmic gymnastics, Taekwon-Do for health, a tug of war and other sports and amusement games at Yanggakdo Football Ground, and people in Moranbong District at the Arch of Triumph Square.
    Story-telling sessions, gatherings and sports and amusement games were held at industrial establishments in South Hamgyong Province, Jagang Province, North Hamgyong Province, South and North Phyongan Provinces and Kangwon Province.
    Basketball, football, volleyball, mass race and other sports events showed the organization, discipline and unity of the working class.
    Meanwhile, national art troupes gave performances at parks and pleasure grounds of the capital.


May Day Meeting of Inter-Korean Workers Held

    Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- A pro-reunification May Day meeting of inter-Korean workers for 2004 to implement the June 15 joint declaration was held here on Saturday. Prior to the meeting representatives of the workers of the north and the south marched towards the Recreation Ground on Rungna Islet, a venue of the meeting.
    An opening ceremony and a solidarity meeting took place there.
    Introduced there were congratulatory messages to the meeting from different organizations in the north and the south and abroad, international organizations, foreign trade unions, friendship organizations and individuals.
    Speeches were made there.
    Ryom Sun Gil, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, said that the meeting in Pyongyang would mark an event to be specially recorded in the history of the movement of the Korean nation for reunification as it is the first of its kinds in nearly 60 years after the country was divided into two by the foreign forces. Noting that if the Korean nation, whose spirit of independence is the best and whose wisdom and skill are also the best, pools its efforts, it has nothing impossible to do, he called upon all the workers in the north and the south to turn out in accomplishing the sacred cause of defending independence and peace and achieving reunification, bearing in mind the pride of national advantage and high national self-respect.
    Kang Sung Gyu, senior vice-chairman of the (south) Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, said that no one can block the determination of the Korean nation to achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country despite unabated interference of outsiders and their moves for permanent division of Korea. The south Korean workers, he stressed, would stand in the van of the struggle to put an end to the division and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country under the uplifted banner of the June 15 joint declaration.
    Pak Hon Su, chairman of the Emergency Measure Committee of the Federation of (south) Korean Trade Unions, said the joint meeting in Pyongyang of workers of the north and the south is a clear evidence that the workers' movement for independent reunification has become active.
    A poem was recited in chorus by members of the Korean Children's Union at the meeting.
    Then workers of the north and the south held a 6.15 km marathon race for reunification and representatives of north and south Korean workers enjoyed sports and amusement games, divided into Ryondae (solidarity) and Tanhap (unity) teams.
    A joint performance of workers in the north and south was given at the pleasure ground at the foot of Moran Hill after the successful meeting.
    The performance was followed by a closing ceremony.
    A resolution of the May Day meeting was adopted at the ceremony. It expressed the willingness of north and south Korean workers to invariably support and implement the June 15 joint declaration, take the lead in achieving national reunification under the banner of independence, peace and great national unity and wage an undaunted struggle to prevent a war from breaking out on this land and defend the peace of the country.
    The Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea hosted a reception at the People's Palace of Culture Saturday evening in congratulation of the successful meeting.
    The pro-reunification meeting in Pyongyang, the first of its kind in the country since its liberation, marked a significant occasion in fully demonstrating the firm will of the workers of the north and the south to actively support the June 15 joint declaration and implement it to the letter, bearing deep in mind their honorable mission in achieving the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.


Relief Goods Reach DPRK

    Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The whole quantity of the relief goods including tents, blankets, foodstuff and building materials worth 10 million Renminbi Yuan donated by the Chinese government to the DPRK in connection with the explosion at Ryongchon Railway Station in North Phyongan Province reached there Friday. Reaching Pyongyang that day were more than 30 tons of relief goods including foodstuff for children, medicinal drops and medicines donated by the Syrian government to the DPRK.
    Present at the airport were Ri Yong Sok, vice-chairman of the DPRK Flood Damage Rehabilitation Committee, officials concerned and Muhammad Adib Alhani, Syrian charge d'affaires ad interim, and embassy officials.
    A representative of the Ministry of Health of Syria conveyed them to Ri Yong Sok.
    Meanwhile, a large quantity of relief materials including medicines, clothes, foodstuff and building materials came to the DPRK from different institutions, enterprises and individual figures in Shenyang and Dandong of China from April 26 to 29.


Message of Sympathy to Syrian President

    Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, sent a message of sympathy to Bashar Al Assad, president of the Syrian Arab Republic, on April 30 in connection with recent terrorism in Damascus. Bitterly denouncing this terrorist attack as a dastardly act of the disruptive forces to undermine security and stability in Syria, the message said: Availing myself of this opportunity, I express firm support and solidarity with the friendly government and people of Syria in their struggle to smash all moves of the hostile forces, defend the security and stability of the country and consolidate the national unity under your leadership.


At least 210 Cases of U.S. Aerial Espionage against DPRK in April

    Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists committed more than 210 cases of aerial espionage against the DPRK in April by mobilizing strategic and tactical reconnaissance planes with different missions, according to military sources. At least 30 espionage flights were made by U-2 and overseas-based RC-135, E-3, EP-3 and P-3.
    The tactical reconnaissance planes including RC-12 and RC-7B that flew over Phochon, Chunchon and Rinje to spy on major military targets of the DPRK on the forefront area numbered 9 on April 16 and 8 on April 8 and 20 each.
    Such aerial espionage committed against the backdrop of the evermore undisguised moves of the U.S. imperialists to stifle the DPRK by force of arms clearly proves the justice of the steps taken by it to increase the means for self-defence including nuclear deterrent.

Los telegramas senalan que se han enterado con gran tristeza de la noticia de que muchas personas resultaron muertas y heridas por el accidente de explosion ocurrido en la estacion ferroviaria de Ryongchon de Corea y expresan sincera compasion y pesame.
    Manifiestan la mas profunda condolencia al Partido del Trabajo y el gobierno de Corea asi como a los familiares de los difuntos y expresan la conviccion de que el pueblo coreano resarcira lo mas pronto posible los danos ocurridos por el accidente.

Mas de 210 actos de espionaje aereo de los yanquis

    Pyongyang, el primero de mayo (ATCC) -- Segun fuentes castrenses, durante el mes de abril, los belicistas estadounidenses perpetraron mas de 210 actos de espionaje aereo sobre la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea mediante la movilizacion intensiva de aviones de reconocimiento estrategico-tacticos de distintas misiones. Sobre todo, la frecuencia de espionajes del avion "U-2", los aviones "RC-135", "E-3", "EP-3"y "P-3" con bases en el extranjero alcanza a mas de 30 ocasiones.
    El dia 16, sobrevolaron 9 aviones de reconocimiento tactico como "RC-12", "RC-7B", etc., y los dias 8 y 20, 8 aviones, respectivamente, las zonas de Phochon, Chunchon y Rinje para espionajes sobre los objetivos militares importantes del frente de nuestra parte.
    Tales espionajes aereos, cometidos al mismo tiempo en que se tornan mas abiertas las maniobras de los EE.UU. de aplastar militarmente a la RPDC, prueban a las claras que es mil veces justa el que la RPDC fortalece mas que nunca los medios poderosos de autodefensa incluida la fuerza de detencion nuclear.


Periodicos insertan editoriales con motivo del Primero de Mayo

    Pyongyang, el primero de mayo (ATCC) -- Los periodicos capitalinos, en sus ediciones del dia primero, consagraron editoriales con motivo del Primero de Mayo, fiesta revolucionaria de la clase obrera de todo el mundo. Manifestar energicamente la inconmovible decision y voluntad de quedar fieles hasta el fin a la idea y la causa del Presidente Kim Il Sung y del Dirigente Kim Jong Il con motivo de esta efemeride es la orgullosa tradicion de la clase obrera y el pueblo de Corea, senala el editorial del periodico Rodong Sinmun, y continua:
    La historia de lucha revolucionaria de nuestra clase obrera brilla como la historia de incansable direccion del Presidente. La orgullosa tradicion de la citada clase, infinitamente fiel a la causa del Partido del Trabajo de Corea se lleva adelante en una nueva altura en la epoca actual del Songun (priorizacion militar).
    Esta es la epoca que sale victoriosa y avanza con la idea y la linea del Songun del Dirigente y la que impulsa vigorosamente la revolucion y la construccion tomando por nucleo y grueso el ejercito revolucionario. La idea y la linea del Songun se apoderaron con fuerza del corazon de nuestra clase obrera y llevaron a un nuevo nivel alto sus rasgos ideo-espirituales. En el curso de seguir la direccion del Songun del Dirigente y de aprender el espiritu y nobles rasgos de los militares revolucionarios del ejercito popular, los obreros de Corea crecieron como firmes combatientes de defender al lider a costa de la vida y crearon proezas heroicas.
    Nuestra clase obrera es la fila que tiene el firme espiritu de defensa a ultranza a la Direccion de la Revolucion y el poderoso destacamento que con el espiritu revolucionario de los militares impulsa energicamente la construccion economica socialista.
    Particularmente, nuestros obreros, en pleno acato a la linea de construccion economica de la epoca del Songun, crean grandes proezas en la lucha por fortalecer el poderio de defensa nacional del pais.
    Hoy, en que bajo la bandera del gran Songun se debe forjar el nuevo siglo y culminar la noble causa de la construccion de una gran potencia prospera socialista, es muy importante la mision que asume nuestra clase obrera. Todos los obreros y otros habitantes deben manifestar mas el impetu heroico de la clase obrera coreana en todos los frentes de la construccion de una gran potencia prospera.
