DPRK Government Urged to Shut Out Japan from Six-way Talks

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea in a statement Tuesday branded Japan's amendment to the law on foreign exchange as one not only going against the publicly recognized international law and the flow of the present times toward independence, peace, reconciliation and cooperation but also conflicting at every point with the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and as a grave encroachment upon the sovereignty of the DPRK aimed to isolate and suffocate it in the international arena by playing the U.S. imperialists' hostile policy toward it. The Japanese authorities need to have a correct understanding of Korean-style socialism centering on the popular masses which was chosen by the Korean workers and other working people themselves and built and is being boosted and developed by their own efforts and wisdom, the spokesman said, and went on:
Japan's act of adopting the amendment to the law on foreign exchange at a time when the situation in and around the Korean peninsula is more strained than ever before over the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the United States is no more than a self-destructive folly that may bring a unpredictable grave danger to peace and security in Korea, Northeast Asia and the rest of the world and endanger also the peace and security of Japan itself.
Considering that all bilateral contacts with Japan which acts craftily without faith must be suspended and that Japan must be branded as an uninvited guest and totally excluded from the six-way talks, we formally request the DPRK government to do this in the name of all the trade union members.

Seminar Held in Bulgaria

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- A seminar was held by the Bulgarian Group for the Study of the Juche Idea on January 30 on the occasion of February 16, the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il and the 30th anniversary of his proclamation of the programme on modeling the whole society on the Juche idea. The seminar referred to his brief biography, immortal feats and Songun revolutionary leadership.
    The seminar stressed:
Kim Jong Il is a great brilliant commander who humbled the pride of the U.S. at the time of capturing its armed spy ship Pueblo and wrested a message of apology from it. The DPRK, guided by him, is the only country which is not shaken by the U.S. arrogant threat, blackmail and pressure.
The Korean people are firmly defending and developing socialism, true to his Songun policy. The DPRK is a fortress of independence which defends the peace of humankind.
The participants in the seminar vowed to more dynamically study and disseminate the Juche idea this significant year which marks the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the programme on modeling the whole society on the Juche idea.

KCNA Urges U.S. to Stop Bolstering Its Military Hardware in S. Korea

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- The United States keep bolstering and updating the military hardware of its troops stationed in south Korea. Dozens of high-tech "M1-A1 Abrams" tanks will reportedly arrive at the U.S. Second Infantry Division in south Korea to replace its old ones.
The U.S. projected massive introduction of sophisticated weapons including latest tanks tested in the Iraqi war to south Korea indicates that the U.S. military move to mount a preemptive attack on the DPRK is reaching a very adventurous phase.
It is massively deploying up-to-date military hardware in strategic points including the areas along the Military Demarcation Line at a time when the six-way talks for the settlement of the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. are high on the agenda. This cannot but be a challenge to the dialogue partner.
This clearly proves that the U.S. is keen to stifle the DPRK by a preemptive attack, not seeking a negotiated solution to the nuclear issue.
Judging from the fact that the U.S. bellicose military circle advocated the formation of sufficient armed forces at the shortest possible time one can guess that the U.S. basic policy toward the DPRK is not a carrot strategy but a stick strategy based on the logic of strength.
The U.S. reckless moves to beef up the armed forces are intolerable as they are grave political and military moves to threaten peace and stability in the Korean peninsula and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region and increase the danger of a new war.
The U.S. is well advised to drop a foolish ambition to bring the DPRK to its knees by force of arms and ponder over the consequences to be entailed by its deployment of the latest military hardware in south Korea.

NDFSK Spokesman Calls for Nullifying S. Korea-U.S. Agreements

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) issued a statement on Feb. 9 in which he called for nullifying all unequal and shackling agreements and treaties reached between south Korea and the U.S. 37 years after the effectuation of the South Korea-U.S. "Status of Forces Agreement" (SOFA), according to internet site of the Kuguk Jonson. The SOFA took effect on February 9, 1967 under the U.S. pressure and has so far been maintained, the statement says, dismissing it as a modern brand of slave document as it stipulated south Korea's unilateral subjugation and sacrifice.
    It continues:
The history of the south Korea-U.S. relations has been characterized by domination, subjugation and disgrace since the effectuation of SOFA. In this period the U.S. forces present in south Korea lorded it over there like masters forcing Koreans to undergo miserable slavery.
Koreans can never tolerate such an unprecedentedly brigandish agreement as SOFA in the era of reunification when all Koreans are paving a wide avenue for independent reunification through national cooperation under the banner of the Korean nation-first spirit true to the June 15 joint declaration.
Any Korean in whose veins runs the blood of the Korean nation should come out in a fierce anti-U.S. struggle to nullify all unequal and shackling agreements and treaties between south Korea and the U.S. and drive the U.S. forces out of south Korea.
The NDFSK together with south Koreans from all walks of life desirous of putting an end to the tragic colonial fate of the nation and living as full-fledged members of a sovereign state will launch a more dynamic struggle to bring about a new independent society, a reunified country, free from Yankee aggressor troops.

Rodong Sinmun Blasts Japan's Distortion of History

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- An ultra-right conservative organization of Japan in a recent statement falsified the truth by asserting that the issue of forcible drafting of more than 8.4 million Koreans advocated by north Korea is groundless. It even went to the lengths of saying that most of the Koreans in Japan came from the Korean peninsula according to their free will. By explaining that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice of Japan have the same opinion with the organization, the statement admitted that it represented the stand of the Japanese government.
In this regard Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary says that the forcible drafting and abduction were one of the hideous crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists against humanity in the past.
Recalling the fact that the Japanese imperialists forcibly drafted and abducted more than 8.4 million Koreans during the period of their occupation of Korea to reduce them to cannon fodder or drive them hard like beasts of burden and killed them individually or in groups, the commentary goes on:
The forcible drafting and abduction committed by the Japanese imperialists were clearly confirmed and proved by historical data and testimonies made by victims and also recognized by the world.
The list of 427,000 Korean victims of forcible drafting discovered and made public in Japan last year clearly testifies how the Japanese imperialists forcibly drafted Koreans and forced them to do slave labour.
Therefore, what the organization asserted is sheer falsification of the truth and a whopping lie. The crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past can be neither reversed nor hidden nor erased.
The distortion of history and mockery of the public opinion can never help Japan escape a severe punishment.
Japan should bear this in mind, honestly admit the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past, make public the truth behind all of them and fully compensate for them.

Japan's Anti-DPRK Hysteria Flayed

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- Japan's recent passage of the "amendment to the law on foreign exchange" through the House of Representatives is little short of the declaration of its policy to totally stop the process of improving the DPRK-Japan relations and aggravate its hostile ties with the DPRK, says Minju Joson Wednesday in a signed commentary. Japan is now escalating its provocative acts against the DPRK, the commentary says, and goes on:
As already known, Japan passed the amendment calling for applying economic sanctions against the DPRK through the House when the countries related to the six-way talks were making their final efforts for the resumption of the talks and there was a strong public opinion in this regard.
What matters here is that the amendment spiced with Japan's extreme antipathy and bitterness towards the DPRK was carried through the House of Representatives against this backdrop.
It is important for the countries around the DPRK to exert positive efforts to create environment favorable for the six-way talks if they are to make any progress.
The Japanese reactionaries' recent act revealed that they are no more than political swindlers only keen on meeting their own interests in utter disregard of the fair solution to the nuclear issue.
Japan seeks to wrest a sort of concession from the DPRK over the bilateral outstanding issues. Tokyo is gravely mistaken, however.
It is an invariable mode of counteraction of the DPRK to react to the hard-line policy with the toughest stand in its relations with those forces hostile to it.
Japan's carriage of the amendment is a very dangerous act which may bring unpredictable consequences. Japan comes to know well what miserable consequences will be entailed by its rash act.
Japan will have to be wholly accountable for all the ensuing consequences.

Reunification Must Be Achieved By Korean Nation Itself

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- It is the unshakable will of the Korean nation to pave a wide avenue for independent reunification by its efforts by displaying a high consciousness for independence as befitting the master of its destiny and the one who is to shape it, declares Rodong Sinmun in an article today. The author of the article goes on:
The master of the destiny of the nation and the one who is to shape it is none other than the Korean nation itself. The Korean nation is a homogeneous nation which has created its excellent culture and tradition and a national history spanning 5,000 years in the same territory, inheriting the same blood and same language.
It is high time that the fellow countrymen in the north, the south and overseas broke the deadlock lying before them, holding aloft the banner of the Korean nation-first spirit.
Only through an anti-U.S., anti-war struggle can the Korean nation survive and achieve peace, independent reunification and national prosperity. The Korean nation must never allow the high-handed arbitrariness of the U.S. and its interference but resolutely frustrate the U.S. moves to stifle the DPRK and start a new war through cooperation and concerted efforts of the nation.
The June 15 joint declaration agreed upon and adopted by the north and the south is the nation's common program of independent reunification and an invariable landmark of national reunification. The way indicated by the joint declaration is exactly the way of reconciliation and cooperation and the way of independent reunification. The main spirit running through the declaration is the idea of national independence and "By our nation itself". The Korean nation should promote reconciliation and cooperation and strenuously carry on the movement of reunification by the efforts of our nation itself with the conviction that our nation is the best and nothing is impossible when the whole nation pools efforts. Either anti-U.S. anti-war struggle or the work for independent reunification should be conducted by our nation itself under the banner of the Korean nation-first spirit.
Sure is the victory of the cause of independent reunification as the whole nation is advancing under the banner of our nation-first spirit, well aware that the destiny of the nation is held in its hand.

Korean People Encouraged by Brilliant Commander's Grit

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- The final victory belongs to us -- this is the iron will of Kim Jong Il, leader of the Korean people. He vowed to counter the imperialists' reckless saber-rattling with arms in September Juche 51 (1962) when he was conducting revolutionary activities at Kim Il Sung University.
When the U.S. armed spy ship Pueblo was captured by the Korean navy in January 1968, the U.S. imperialists massed huge forces around the Korean peninsula, threatening "retaliation". At that time, he had it made clear that the DPRK would not send the captives back to the U.S. before it submitted a written surrender to the DPRK, and even though the U.S. delivered the surrender to the DPRK, the ship would not be sent back.
He also had an ultimatum issued declaring that if the U.S. refused to make an apology, all of the captives would be referred to a military trial. As a result, the U.S. imperialists admitted their crime and apologized to the Korean people.
A touch-and-go situation was caused by the Panmunjom incident on August 18, 1976, the largest military conflict between the DPRK and the U.S. in the 1970s. But he, with composure, had a large number of servicemen mobilized in the face-lifting of the capital.
And he told a senior official of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces that it was not good to have servicemen sent back to their units from rest homes because of the tense situation and that even if a war broke out, the rest homes should be animated with servicemen's singing.
In May 1981 when the situation still remained tense, he charged the army with the construction of the West Sea Barrage, one of the biggest in the world, so as to answer the U.S. imperialists' new war preparations with a large-scale project.
In December 1998 when the U.S. imperialists were bringing the situation to the brink of war after working out the "5027 Operation Plan", a scenario for the second Korean war, he saw to it that the spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army released a statement declaring that the KPA's strike had no limit and there was no place on the globe to escape the strike.
Encouraged by such grit of Kim Jong Il, the Korean army and people have advanced victoriously, meeting the enemy's tough policy with tougher countermeasures and countering the enemy's rifle with gun.

Japan Urged to Redress Its Past Crimes

Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- An annual meeting of the DPRK Measure Committee for Demanding Compensation to Comfort Women for the Japanese Army and Victims of Forcible Drafting was held here today. Hong Son Ok, chairperson of the committee, made a report to be followed by speeches.
The meeting reviewed the activities conducted by the committee last year to probe the truth behind the hideous human rights abuses committed by Japan and denounce it while heightening social concern about Japan's redemption of its past and strengthening international solidarity and cooperation.
It took a note of the fact that the Japanese authorities have frantically stepped up its moves to convert Japan into a military giant as evidenced by the adoption of the "law on emergency," the launch of spy satellites and the dispatch of the Self-defense Forces overseas, while openly shelving the issue of liquidating its past.
It strongly denounced the present chief executive for having visited the "Yasukuni Shrine" where the top-class war criminals are entombed from the outset of the year while absurdly asserting that Tok Islet belongs to Japan in a bid to incite militarism. The meeting drew a serious attention to Japan's above-mentioned moves for reinvasion.
The issue of Japan's redemption of its past is an important issue in protecting the dignity and the sovereignty of the Korean nation, defending the peace and stability in Asia and establishing basic ethics and order in the international community, it said, calling for launching an all-out offensive to force Japan to redeem its past crimes against humanity this year.
It adopted a resolution after discussing the issue of conducting thorough investigation into the cases of serious human rights abuses committed by Japan, exerting efforts to trace the whereabouts of survivors, the issue of denouncing Japan's past crimes on the international arena including the UN and raising the voices demanding Japan redress them at home in solidarity with organizations concerned.
