Korean People's Cause Supported

Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held on the subject of "Let's unite against imperialism" in Kolkata, India, on December 25 last year on the occasion of the "day of international solidarity in the anti-imperialist struggle." Debabrata Biswas, general secretary of the C.C., the All-India Forward Bloc, in his report underscored the need to achieve the firm unity of the anti-imperialist forces to cope with the evermore undisguised arbitrary practices of the U.S. in recent years. He said that his party, a signatory to the Pyongyang Declaration, would positively support the struggle to revive socialism and the just struggle of the Korean people for the country's reunification.
A Kolkata declaration was adopted at the meeting.
The declaration noted that the most important task before the world people struggling for peace and democracy is to achieve the firm unity of the working class and further intensify the struggle against imperialism.
Congratulating the DPRK, Cuba and other countries on their successes made in the protracted struggle against imperialism, the declaration called for lifting worldwide voice "Let's unite against imperialism."

Japanese Chief Executive's Visit to "Yasukuni Shrine" Denounced in S. Korea

Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- The Consultative Council for Earlier Compensation to the Victims of the Pacific War and other south Korean civic organizations held a protest rally in front of the Japanese embassy on Jan. 2 denouncing the Japanese chief executive's visit to the "Yasukuni Shrine", according to south Korean MBC. The organizations condemned the Japanese chief executive's visit to the "Yasukuni Shrine", which keeps the remains of the special-class war criminals of the Pacific war, on the New Year's day as an act little short of thrusting daggers into the hearts of the people killed by the Japanese militarists.
The Japanese chief executive talked about "peace" whenever he visited the shrine but, in fact, he took the lead in pushing the Japanese society to the Right, they said. And they demanded the south Korean authorities strongly react to it.

U.S. Urged to Properly Approach Six-way Talks

Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- The six-way talks may be resumed at an early date or may be delayed or scuttled depending on how preparations are made for their resumption, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary. Referring to the fact that the DPRK has exerted positive efforts for the resumption of the talks, the commentary goes on:
The U.S. improper stand and attitude toward the resumption of the talks can not but pose a very serious problem. The U.S. is pressurizing the DPRK to scrap its nuclear weapons program first while shelving the issue of making a switchover in its policy toward the DPRK. This is a revelation of the U.S. true intention not to put an end to the hostile and belligerent bilateral relations and co-exist with the DPRK in peace. It also discloses the U.S. true intention to disarm the DPRK in an irreversible and verifiable manner and destroy it. It is a brigandish true purpose sought by the U.S. to completely disarm the DPRK and destroy it by the tactics of throttling it to the last.
The U.S. insistence on such stand would only destroy foundation of dialogue. It was attributable to the U.S. improper attitude and stand that talks and negotiations ended without any success in the past after undergoing turns and twists.
What matters here is where to focus attention in making preparations for the resumption of the talks. The preparations should be orientated toward reaching an agreement on actions at the first phase along with "words-for-words" commitments. The actions to be taken at the first phase are for the U.S. and the neighbouring countries to take measures in return for the DPRK's complete freeze of its nuclear activities. This is a starting point and a core issue of furthering the process of talks.
Clear and responsible is what the U.S. should do for the resumption of the six-way talks. Whether the six-way talks are resumed or not entirely depends on how the U.S. makes preparations for them. A ball is in the U.S. court.

Rodong Sinmun on Korean Nation-first Spirit

DPRK's Invariable Position - Answering Tough Policy with Tougher Measures

Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation-first spirit is the noble spirit of national independence and ideological sentiments of love for the nation and the motherland that enable the entire Korean nation to display their pride as the most dignified and proud nation in the world, cherishing its superiority, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today. It continues:
Owing its origin to the Korean nation-first spirit is the will to demonstrate to the world the dignity and honor of the Korean nation by promoting the cause of national independence and patriotic work for reunification with high consciousness of independence and national character, convinced that the Korean nation is the best.
This spirit is an invincible weapon which must be held fast to in the struggle to restore national homogeneity maintained for 5,000 years and glorify the honor as a reunified nation by rejecting flunkeyism and dependence on outside forces and accomplishing the cause of the country's reunification with the internal strength of the nation.
The idea of "By our nation itself" is based on our nation-first spirit.
The U.S. is the very outside force which is gravely encroaching on the dignity, sovereignty and interests of the Korean nation and standing in the way of the movement of independent reunification. National cooperation based on the Korean nation-first spirit is the all-conquering weapon for smashing the U.S. imperialists' arrogant and shameless policy of aggression toward Korea and their moves to provoke a new war and advancing uninterruptedly the movement for reconciliation, unity and reunification. All the fellow countrymen should vigorously push forward the reunification movement in the new year under the slogan "Let us pave a wide avenue for independent reunification through national cooperation under the banner of our nation-first spirit!" set forth in the joint New Year editorial.
The whole nation should fight in close unity to dispel the danger of a nuclear war brought by outside forces every moment, defend peace in the country and achieve its reunification.

Pyongyang's Stockbreeding Bases in Full-capacity Operation

Pyongyang January 5 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in a joint editorial issued by the Party, army and youth newspapers on the New Year, declared that it will always answer the U.S. tough policy of totally negating and threatening its ideology and dignified social system with tougher measures. The declaration is the Korean people's invariable answer to the U.S. hawks in their confrontation with the U.S. for defending the sovereignty and dignity of the Korean nation.
The Korean revolution was launched and has emerged victorious with the backing of arms under the banner of the anti-imperialist struggle.
It is the consistent stand of the Korean army and people to give priority to the strengthening of military power to safeguard the country and socialism and hew out the destiny of the nation independently.
The situation of the Korean peninsula is getting very serious due to the U.S. administration's hostile policy towards the DPRK.
The U.S. administration has intentionally created another nuclear crisis, escalating pressure on the DPRK.
The Korean people and army, however, are countering the U.S. imperialists' tough policy with tougher measures and stronger war deterrent force under the Songun-based leadership of Kim Jong Il. This is their legitimate choice for defending the sovereignty of the country and their rights to existence.
The DPRK government's position for a peaceful and negotiated solution to the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S has remained unchanged.
