Minju Joson Ridicules Press Conference on Iraqi Situation

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- The fact-finding group made up of south Korean "national assemblymen" was reported to have called a press conference recently upon its return home from Iraq. At the conference it asserted that "the situation in Iraq was safer than anticipated" and "Iraqis were in the mood of welcoming south Koreans." In this regard Minju Joson today says in a signed commentary:
On November 30, a few days after the press conference members of the south Korean "Omu Electrical Company" in Iraq were attacked by Iraqi resistance forces.
The attack on the members of the south Korean electrical company was gainsaying what was stated by "national assemblymen" at the "press conference," the Iraqi people's bitterness towards south Korea is clearly evidenced by the fact that after the south Korean authorities' decision on the additional dispatch of combat forces to Iraq, a staff member of the south Korean "embassy" there was abducted by Iraqi resistance forces and it is deluged with threatening phone messages and letters.
The account of the "press conference" held by the "National Assembly" fact-finding group of south Korea and the report presented by it are now rebuffed by public circles of south Korea for misrepresenting the reality in Iraq.
Not only the south Koreans but the Iraqis are opposed to south Korea's additional troop dispatch to Iraq. This dispatch is an act of infringing upon the dignity and sovereignty of the south Korean people and offering young south Koreans as bullet-shields for the U.S. imperialists.

Repeal of Troop Dispatch to Iraq Demanded

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity reportedly made public a statement titled "Repeal Troop Dispatch to Iraq Which Kills All Our People" on December 1. The statement said that two of the south Korean civilians who had a contract to build a power transmission tower of a U.S. corporation in Iraq were shot to death and two others wounded on November 30.
The statement charged that the "inspection group of the National Assembly", which had been to Iraq, saw only what was shown by the U.S. troops and, back home, told a lie that the public peace of Iraq was stable, not referring to the fact that the resisting forces were raining shells upon them on the spot and waging a battle with the U.S. troops.
The statement demanded that the authorities and the political power stop telling a lie deceiving the people and withdraw the already dispatched units at once.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Workers' Party in a commentary charged that despite the injury to south Korean civilians in Iraq the "government" clarified again its stand to dispatch troops and the "Ministry of National Defense" insisted on the dispatch of a commando unit, which is a reverse decision.
The authorities should not turn away from the demand of the people but withdraw the decision on troop dispatch at once, the commentary said, stressing: The Democratic Workers' Party, together with all the people, will make all efforts for the withdrawal of troop dispatch.

Abolition of "Law on Supervision for Public Peace" Urged

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification reportedly made public a statement on December 1, denouncing the security authorities for arresting again Kim Tae Won who had visited the north as a representative of the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils, on charge of violating the "law on supervision for public peace". The statement said that the law which requires a released convict to report to a relevant police station about his whereabouts and his activities regularly is an anti-human rights evil law. It urged the security authorities to abrogate the evil law and set free Kim Tae Won immediately.
The Family Movement for Realizing Democracy also issued a statement titled "Immediately abolish the law on supervision for public peace, an evil law against human rights" on November 3

Abrogation of "Security Law" Demanded

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- The People's Solidarity for Abolition of the "Security Law" consisting of more than 230 civic and public organizations in south Korea reportedly held a press conference in Seoul on December 1 and declared a massive struggle for abrogation of the evil law. At the press conference a report on the situation of applying the "security law" was made and then an open questionnaire to national assemblymen and other politicians made public and a press release read out.
The press release said that the organization would start a powerful struggle to make 2004 the first year of the abolition of the "security law".
On the same day the Pusan Solidarity for Abolition of the "Security Law" held a "press conference of civic and public organizations in Pusan for abolition of the security law and checking the enactment of the law on combating terrorism and against the retrogressive revision of the law on assembly and demonstration" at the plaza of Pusan Railway Station.

U.S. Reckless Arms Build-up Denounced

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- U.S. Congress recently made a final approval of the bill on military expenditure for the fiscal 2004 amounting to more than 401 billion dollars and U.S. President Bush signed it. In this regard Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article says:
The U.S. approved record-breaking defense budget for the fiscal 2004 is a blatant challenge to the trend of the times in the new century towards independence, peace and disarmament.
And it is a criminal move to chill the unanimous desire and aspiration of humankind to live in a new stable and peaceful world free from any danger of nuclear war and arms race.
What merits a serious attention is that the new bill lifted a ban on the research into low-yield nukes and those capable of penetrating underground, which has been in force for scores of years.
The bellicose Bush ruling quarters keen on hegemony and world domination are going mad with the arms build-up, pursuing the adventurous line of strength and iron-fisted policy in contravention of the aspiration of humankind, world public opinion and the trend of the times.
The U.S. defense budget for the fiscal 2001 reached 310 billion U.S. dollars much bigger than that of the Clinton administration. And its defense budget for the fiscal 2002 was 343 billion U.S. dollars, 33 billion dollars bigger than that. The defense budget for the fiscal 2003 ran into over 379 billion U.S. dollars. This is equivalent to 40 percent of the total amount of the world military expenditure.
The strategic aim sought by the U.S. in its madcap arms buildup is to retain its military supremacy in a bid to stifle those anti-imperialist independent countries incurring its displeasure by means of military intervention, military terrorism and war, seize major areas of natural resources and military strategic importance, establish an American-style iron-fisted order in the world and thus build a unipolar world dominated by it.
This U.S. arms build-up may spark the second worldwide arms race as this policy is bound to lead to arms buildup, military intervention and war of aggression.

Miracles of Songun Korea

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- Nine years have passed since leader Kim Jong Il left the first great footprints of his Songun leadership at a post of the Korean People's Army surrounded by young pine trees on the New Year of Juche 84 (1995). In this period, the Korean people have created a great epic of heroic feats which others would be unable to perform even in centuries.
These miracles of Songun Korea praised by the world people as "myth of human history" include the blasting of the "fiction of collapse of north Korea," leap to a possessor of earth satellite and start of the grand march for building a prosperous powerful nation, adoption of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and repatriation of 63 unconverted long-term prisoners, land rezoning of over 200,000 hectares in a matter of a few years, excavation of the Kaechon-Lake Thaesong Canal stretching over 150 km, emergence of a world "marathon queen," the creation of the grand mass gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" acclaimed as the acme of human culture, Kim Jong Il's foreign tour covering more than 50,000 ri that shook the world.

The "fiction of the destruction of north Korea" about which the Western media shouted themselves hoarse went to pieces in every step of Kim Jong Il's unceasing journey of Songun leadership for 9 years.
The DPRK, a small country, put a satellite on the orbit in the first launch entirely with its own technique and wisdom in the difficult days of arduous long march.
With the launch of satellite as a signal for building a prosperous powerful nation, the DPRK started the grand march towards the majestic goal.
The historical summit meeting of the north and the south and adoption of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration were greatest event that set off a storm of sensation at home and abroad.
63 unconverted long-term prisoners came back at a time to the socialist motherland. This was an auspicious event of the nation.
On May 4, Juche 87 (1998), land-rezoning of gigantic scale was announced in Taebaek-ri, Changdo County, Kangwon Province. In the following five years at least 236,360 hectares of crop fields have been rezoned across the country, bring tremendous changes.
The over 150km-long canal tens of meters wide from Taegak-ri, Kaechon City, South Phyongan Province, to Lake Thaesong in Kangso District, Nampho City, is a monumental creation of eternal value built by the Korean army and people in the Songun era.
On August 29, Juche 88 (1999) Jong Song Ok, the DPRK woman marathoner, carried away gold medal at the women's marathon race of the 7th International Athletic Championships held in Sevilla, Spain.
Great was the stir created by the grand Gymnastic Display and Artistic Performance "Arirang" performed by over 100,000 persons that opened at May Day Stadium in Pyongyang on April 29, Juche 91 (2002).
In Juche 90 (2001) the world was aboil with "Kim Jong Il Impact" and "Kim Jong Il Storm". Kim Jong Il made a long journey of more than 50,000 ri in Russia from July 26 to August 18 that year to perform an immortal exploit peculiar in the histories of the DPRK-Russia relations and world politics.
These miracles of Songun Korea are, indeed, a great pride of our sun's nation.

In the concert marking the war victory day it demonstrated the Korean people's determination and will to win a greater victory if another war is unleashed in Korea.
Many feature films of high ideological and artistic value have been produced this year. Among them are "Our Life," "Mother's Happiness," "Ding of Love," "Notes of a Woman Soldier" and "This Is Where My Life Was Settled."
"Successors," "Chol Pass" and other light comedies were created and the 1,000th performance of the revolutionary opera "The Fate of a Self-defence Corps Man" was given successfully.
Women's instrumental ensemble of the Mansudae Art Troupe, kayagum ensemble of the KPA Song and Dance Ensemble and oungum ensemble of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Ministry of People's Security and other art groups considered to be national treasure have become all the more seasoned in the ideological and artistic respect.

"Victorious July 27 Declares" and "By Ourselves, by Our Nation Itself."
The publication of "Complete Collection of Korean Songs" which contains thousands of songs is one of signal successes registered in the literary and art fields this year.
