U.S. Moves to Unleash Another Korean War Slammed

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a signed article disclosing the U.S. strategy towards Asia and its moves to unleash another Korean war as regards the current massive deployment of U.S. troops in and around south Korea. The article says:
In hurling mobile strike forces in and around south Korea the U.S. seeks to finalize preparations for a war of aggression against the DPRK. These moves are also related to its aggressive Asian strategy.
The main point of the Asian strategy of the U.S. is to contain the expansion of the sphere of influence of other powers in the region and establish a dominationist order in which the U.S. would boss the show. The U.S. schemes to back it with the deployment of strong forces. Here, the U.S. attaches importance to Northeast Asia, south Korea and Japan in particular, and intends to build strong forces there and use them in realizing its dominationist designs on Asia. The U.S. is bent on attaining domination over the region by overwhelming the DPRK and containing other powers with south Korea as its forward base for its Asian Strategy.
The U.S. is talking about "peace" and "detente" on the Korean peninsula, but its actions are quite the contrary.
The present situation makes it incumbent upon the DPRK to be fully ready both for dialogue and war. The DPRK will make thorough preparations to cope with any contingency.

Syrian Diplomats Visit Wonhwa Revolutionary Site

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- Charge d'Affaires ai Muhammad Adib Alhani and officials of the Syrian embassy here visited the Wonhwa Revolutionary Site in Phyongwon County, South Phyongan Province, on November 12 on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Corrective Movement in Syria. The guests looked round different historical buildings including the revolutionary museum there, being briefed on the fact that President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il turned Wonhwa-ri into a modern socialist village.
The charge d'affaires said that the visit to the revolutionary site provided them with an opportunity to keenly realize once again their immortal exploits.
Recalling that the friendly relations between Syria and the DPRK were provided by President Hafez Al Assad and Kim Il Sung, he noted that the relations are growing stronger under the deep care of President Bashar Al Assad and Kim Jong Il.
He sincerely wished the Korean people greater success in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Withdrawal of U.S. Troops from S. Korea Urged

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- Stephen Gibson, head of the Australian friendship delegation, which visited the DPRK strongly demanded the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea. Peace on the Korean peninsula is related to the global security and constant tensions in the region are attributable to the U.S. troops' presence in south Korea, he said.
The Korean peninsula has become the most dangerous region as huge armed forces have stood in confrontation from the last century, he noted, adding: This is because the U.S. has kept its forces in south Korea and put military pressure upon the DPRK.
    He went on to say:
The Songun politics pursued by leader Kim Jong Il is the most outstanding political mode as it helps reliably defend the security of the country and fully ensure global peace.
It is quite natural for the DPRK to build up a powerful military deterrent force to protect its sovereignty.
The Korean people are fully supported by the world's peace-loving people as they are reacting to imperialists' hardline policy with the toughest stand.
The Korean people's cause is just and it encourages the world people in their struggle to put an end to the present international order whereby highhanded and arbitrary practices are rampant.
We will always extend full support to the Korean people in their struggle for justice and peace.

U.S. Decision to Suspend LWR Construction Condemned

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a statement on November 8 denouncing the U.S. decision to suspend the construction of light water reactors (LWR). On November 4 the U.S. made the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) suspend the LWR construction though even its groundwork was not wound up, the statement said, adding; this shows once again that the U.S. had no willingness to implement the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework (AF) from the outset.
    It went on:
As the U.S. deliberately ditched the AF, it is obliged to pay for the huge losses caused to the DPRK.
The LWR construction is one of the main articles of the AF of weighty importance in seeking a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula and improving the north Korea-U.S. relations.
We will never pardon the U.S. arrogant and dangerous moves to unilaterally scrap the international agreement under the pretext of the "nuclear issue of north Korea."
The LWR construction should go on without interruption. The U.S. administration should bear in mind that this is the only correct way of defusing the tensions surrounding the Korean peninsula and solving the nuclear issue.

The publishing house is planning to bring out 20 volumes by combining series of Reminiscences of Anti-Japanese Guerillas, Combat Reminiscences of Anti-Japanese Guerillas and For the Freedom and Liberation of the People which were published earlier.

Reminiscences titled Unforgettable First Meeting and Victory in Laoheisan deal with clear answers given by President Kim Il Sung to questions arising in Korean revolution such as the characteristics and nature of the Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Army and its building, policy of party founding as well as historical facts of his leading battles to victories by creating superb guerrilla tactics.
Reminiscences entitled Comrades! Take This Revolver! and For Arms tell about facts in the days when guerrillas and people who turned out, upholding the line of the anti-Japanese armed struggle set forth by the President, wrested weapons from the Japanese army and police and their stooges to expand armed ranks.
Carried in Vol. 1 are reminiscences dealing with the indomitable fighting spirit and strong will of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters and impressive features of people who devotedly supported the Korean People's Revolutionary Army and aided it materially and morally.

End to Foreign Domination and Interference Called for

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- The failure of the Korean nation to achieve the country's reunification for over half a century is entirely attributable to the foreign forces' domination and interference and the U.S. is entirely to blame for this. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article. The article cites concrete facts to accuse the U.S. of having long pursued the policy of aggression in order to realize its ambition to dominate the whole Korean peninsula, the area of military and strategic importance in Asia.
    The article goes on:
The U.S. policy to dominate Korea has been pursued in real earnest during the Second World War. The talks of allied forces on the post-war settlement discussed the Korean issue contrary to the will and demand of the Korean nation for independence.
The U.S. persistently pursued that policy.
The U.S. imperialists worked out a plan to "divide Korea with the 38th Parallel as a line of demarcation". Their forces occupied south Korea on September 8, 1945, nearly one month after the defeat of the Japanese imperialists, and thus divided Korea into the north and the south. The U.S. imperialists have since most viciously blocked the reconciliation and unity of the Korean nation and the country's reunification though over half a century has passed since its partition.
They fabricated the "nuclear suspicion of north Korea" in the 1990s in a bid to perpetuate their military presence in south Korea and stifle the DPRK. They instigated the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN and others to threaten the DPRK with "special inspection" and "sanctions" and staged the once suspended large-scale "Team Spirit" war drills to invade north Korea and started the massive manoeuvres of aggressor troops.
The U.S. imperialists designated the DPRK as part of an "axis of evil" and a target of preemptive nuclear attack and kicked up a reckless nuclear racket, driving the situation on the Korean peninsula to a grave phase.
All facts go to clearly prove that the U.S. imperialists are chiefly to blame for the national split and a stumbling block lying in the way of the country's reunification.
It is impossible to achieve national reconciliation, unity and the country's reunification and defend peace on the Korean peninsula unless an end is put to the foreign forces' domination and interference. This is a serious lesson taught by the over half a century-long history of the movement for national reunification.

Japan's Apology and Compensation for Its Past Crimes Demanded

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean Measure Committee for Compensation to Victims of "Sexual Slavery" for the Japanese Army and Forcible Drafting issued a statement on November 12 as regards the recent discovery of the list of victims of forcible drafting by the Japanese imperialists thanks to the sincere efforts of those concerned at home and abroad. The list contains 427,129 victims' names, age, birthplace, etc.
It is historical evidence proving the hideous crimes related to the forcible drafting committed by the Japanese imperialists as it is the biggest of the lists of victims of forcible drafting discovered until now, the statement noted, and continued:
The list once again proves that the forcible drafting of Koreans was an important part of the policy of obliterating the Korean nation pursued by the Japanese imperialists by all means and methods after their military occupation of Korea.
The world history records many crimes. But it does not know such precedents of crimes against humanity and human rights abuses as drafting so many people and forcing so many women into sexual slavery in a bid to exterminate one whole nation.
The Japanese reactionaries, however, are working hard to evade their responsibility for such unprecedented crimes. They are rushing headlong into militarism, letting loose such reckless remarks as "international pressure" and "hardline step," to extremely provoke the DPRK and embellishing and distorting their history of aggression
We strongly demand the Japanese authorities come to their senses and honestly reflect on their past crimes against humanity, though belatedly, and opt to apologize and compensate the victims of the forcible drafting and their bereaved families for them.

Autumn Scenery of Pyongyang

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- A savory smell of baked sweet potatoes and chestnuts is given out from every corner of Pyongyang, drawing many citizens. Baked sweet potato and chestnut stands in streets are congested with people every day.
Saleswomen are too busy with baking potatoes and chestnuts to dry their sweat, while customers, men and women, old and young, taste the bake with self-satisfied smile on their faces.
Ri Myong Hui, a saleswoman of the Sinwon Fruit and Greengrocery Stand in Pothonggang District, told KCNA that sweet potatoes and chestnuts are a good seller and that she feels proud to see many customers coming to the stand.

DPRK's Kangwon Province Hit by Autumn Rain

Wonsan, November 13 (KCNA) -- Kangwon Province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was hit by a week-long rain from November 6 to 12. Usually the country has a small amount of precipitation in autumn. But the precipitation in the province in the first half of November is 145 millimeters, a record high over the past one hundred years.
According to meteorological observation data, the province's largest amount of precipitation in the first half of November was 77.7 mm in Juche 86 (1997).
Over the last week 165 millimeters of rain were poured on Kosong County, and Thongchon and Chonnae counties, Munchon City and other coastal areas had much rain.
The week-long period of rain was also unusual in autumn.
The long-spell of rain has severely affected the agricultural field in the province.
Any harvest can hardly be expected from fields of wheat and barley sown for next year's semi-annual crops. And fall plowing and other farming works have failed to be done as scheduled.
The province is now taking measures to healing the severe damage.
