DPRK's victory in war commemorated in Russia

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- A meeting to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the DPRK's victory in the Great Fatherland Liberation War was held in Moscow on July 17 under the sponsorship of the Moscow City Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Addressing the meeting, secretary of the Moscow City Committee of the party Vasily Ponomaryov said that the heroic Korean people's army and people demonstrated the dignity of Korea to the world by defeating the U.S. and its henchmen with the Juche idea of President Kim Il Sung and invincible might in the Great Fatherland Liberation War which was a showdown in ideology and system.
The situation of the Korean peninsula concerning the nuclear issue is now very tense, he pointed out, stressing: However desperately the U.S. may try to isolate and stifle it, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, a fortress of socialism, will continue making a long drive.
War veteran Yan Kanov, member of the general staff of the former Soviet Army, in a speech said that Kim Il Sung was, indeed, a great iron-willed commander and an outstanding strategist, and that the victory of Korea in the war is attributable to his outstanding commanding art and leadership ability.
The leadership exploits of Kim Il Sung, who humbled the pride of the U.S. which blustered about superiority in number and techniques, will shine long with the world history of war, he said.
Vladimir Yakushev, reporter of the newspaper Pravda Stoliti, said in a speech:
The Korean people's army has grown up as a revolutionary army which is politically and ideologically, militarily and technically strongest under the great Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il.
Korea is not Iraq. If the U.S. once again invades the DPRK where the army and all the people replete with the anti-U.S. spirit are single-heartedly united around Kim Jong Il, it will be thrown into an irretrievable abyss of history.

Inheriting spirit of defense in 1950s urged

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- The victorious history of the Korean-style socialism is a course in which the spirit of defending the country with death displayed in the 1950s has been faithfully inherited and its might fully demonstrated, declares Rodong Sinmun in an editorial today. Calling for invariably carrying forward this spirit, it says:
It is the spirit which enabled our small country, only five years after its liberation, to defeat the ringleader of imperialism boasting of being "the strongest" in the world, a mighty spirit that brought to naught the wicked strategy and tactics of the U.S. imperialists and their largest-scale offensives ever seen.
The spirit represents the ever-victorious mettle of Korea and its confidence and fighting spirit to annihilate the enemy, the spirit of fighting the imperialists and making them pay the price of blood.
Defending the leader with death is the core of the spirit, states the editorial, and says: the Korean people should defend the headquarters of the Korean revolution headed by leader Kim Jong Il, the illustrious commander born of Mt. Paektu, at the cost of their lives.
The Korean army and people are in unshakable ideological readiness and preparedness to counter a fiercer and tougher fight than in the past fatherland liberation war. Our revolutionary ranks are the purest crystal body of idea and confidence which leaves no room for cowards and wavers and are a crack unit of human bullets and bombs. With no pressure, blockade, appeasement and psychological operations can the imperialists make a breakthrough in our revolutionary ranks of death-defying defense.
The Korean army and people will defend the socialist motherland of Juche at the cost of their lives and highly display the dignity of the DPRK under the banner of Songun of Kim Jong Il.

DPRK highly vigilant against U.S. psychological warfare

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- The DPRK is maintaining a high degree of revolutionary vigilance against the U.S. imperialists' psychological warfare. No awe-causing propaganda launched by the U.S. imperialists bragging about their military and technological superiority can work on the DPRK as it has revolutionary self-defensive armed forces equipped with powerful offensive and defensive means.
It is, therefore, the Korean people's ideological and moral quality that they can wipe out any formidable enemy at a single blow.
Papers in Pyongyang allot much space to dealing with the U.S. imperialists' awe strategy, dastardly media and video tape operations, etc. under the headlines "Let us heighten the vigilance against the psychological warfare of the U.S. imperialists" and "Let us resolutely foil the psychological warfare of the U.S. imperialists" and so on.
The psychological warfare conducted by them to conquer Iraq is cited as a good example in intensifying the ideological education of the people.
Public organizations including the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League are making effective information service to help their members heighten vigilance against the imperialists' psychological warfare and ideological and cultural poisoning and convince them of the serious lesson taught by the Iraqi war that only a nation with strong defence capability, a firm will to fight the enemy and strong conviction of victory can defend its sovereignty and dignity.
Servicepersons of the Korean People's Army, people from all walks of life and school youth and children are taking every precaution against the U.S. attempts, well aware that it is keen to destabilize the DPRK through such a psychological warfare as "Voice of Free Asia", etc. just as it did in Iraq.
War veterans are playing a role in the campaign against its psychological warfare.
Looking back on the days of the Korean war, they tell young people stories that if people in those times had been taken in by the enemy's false propaganda, they might have suffered unpredictable losses. The U.S. imperialists are busy airing smear programs, spreading wild rumors and sending dirty things in a bid to benumb the spirit of the Korean people, but this is absolutely futile.
Rodong Sinmun in an article said that no false propaganda on the part of the U.S. imperialists will work on the army and people of the DPRK as they ridicule this folly.

Japan's "Defense White Paper" under fire

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- Papers here today carry signed commentaries branding Japan's "Defense White Paper for 2003" as a product of the deep-seated unilateral hostile policy of the Japanese ultra-right conservatives toward the DPRK and their policy of toeing the U.S. line. Noting that Japan is stepping up the modernization of its armed forces and its moves to emerge a military giant under the pretext of nuclear and missile "threats" from the DPRK, Rodong Sinmun says:
It is to defend the sovereignty and the security of the country for the DPRK to build up a strong physical deterrent force. This does not pose any threat as it proceeds from the consistent policy of the DPRK government which defines independence and peace as the avowed idea of its foreign policy.
As far as the relations between the DPRK and Japan in military aspect are concerned, it is the DPRK, not Japan, which is exposed to a threat.
Japan's unilateral hostile policy toward the DPRK is all the more dangerous because it is intended to realize "the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere." Its moves to introduce an interceptor missile system and its plan to build a carrier-type escort ship are, in essence, military preparations to revive the colonial system in Korea.
Minju Joson says that Japan is not interested in a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue but seeks to render the situation complicated and use it as a justification for modernizing the "self-defense forces" and for becoming a military power.

U.S. imperialists' looting of Korean national treasures

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- Recorded in the U.S. imperialists' 100-odd-year-long history of aggression on Korea are evidences of their looting of cultural treasures. Even after the liberation of Korea on August 15, 1945 they took away a large number of treasures from South Korea.
Gregory Henderson, an official of the U.S. embassy in Seoul, took many pieces of historic relics to the United States from South Korea in seven years from Juche 37 (1948).
At Ohio State University in 1969 he exhibited 143 pieces of relics including those dating back to the 12th century and the 18th century. The U.S. imperialists robbed a museum in Seoul of even a gold crown of the Silla era in the spring of 1949.
During the Korean War (June 1950-July 1953), they bombed many cultural relics and remains and took away more than 6,700 pieces from the northern half of Korea, 1,200 pieces from the Kyongbok Palace Museum in Seoul, and 6,000 pieces from the Toksu Palace gallery, over 14,500 pieces in all.
After the war they have continued destroying and looting valuable cultural relics and remains in South Korea.
It is well known a fact that a great number of cultural treasures of the Korean nation are on display at most of museums and galleries in the United States.

U.S. risky war moves denounced

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists have supplemented the "Operation Plan 5027" with tactics such as "psychological warfare" they had applied in the Iraq war to produce the "Operation Plan 5030", Minju Joson today says in a signed commentary, and continues: The "Operation Plan 5030" is a dangerous anti-DPRK scurvy plan aiming at overthrowing the system and institution of the DPRK and a war scenario to gain the aggressive purpose by occupying the DPRK at a stretch through a surprise attack by ultra-modern forces.
The U.S. imperialists have continued renewing and supplementing the war plan against the DPRK to draw up a new consummated war scenario and worked to carry it into practice.
What remains to be done by the U.S. imperialists is to ignite the fuse of war against the DPRK.
The Korean people are not a people to be afraid of or waver in face of the U.S. imperialists' "psychological warfare" and "shock and terror operation".
The more desperate the U.S. imperialists become in accelerating preparations for a war to invade the DPRK, the more resolute the Korean people get in their will and spirit to shower a fire of revenge upon the enemy.

Seminar held to mark day of victory

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- A seminar of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces on the immortal revolutionary exploits of President Kim Il Sung and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il took place at the April 25 House of Culture today on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. Kim Yong Chun, chief of the general staff of the KPA, and other speakers recalled that the president defeated the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces, thus winning a shining victory in the war and performing feats to be specially recorded in the history of the Korean nation and the world history of the anti-imperialist revolutionary war.
The president created a lot of peculiar and superb military tactics in each period and at each stage of the war and actively and skillfully applied them, thereby beating back the enemies with a definite strategic and tactical edge, leading the Korean People's Army and people to victory in the war with his rare commanding art and working an unprecedented military miracle, they added.
Noting that the feats the president performed by winning the victory in the war fought against imperialism are being creditably carried forward by Kim Jong Il, the speakers said the KPA and the people are sure to win a final victory in the showdown with the U.S. as long as his Songun policy is in force.
The seminar was attended by Kim Il Chol, Minister of the People's Armed Forces, and leading officials of the ministry, generals, officers and servicemen.

Multiple rocket launch systems presented to KPA

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- Officials and members of the Korean Democratic Women's Union across the country procured "Nyomaeng" guns through a do-good-thing movement, prompted by the patriotic desire to contribute to increasing the country's military power on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. A presentation ceremony was held at Jonsung Square here today.
Pak Sun Hui, chairwoman of the central committee of the union, in a report expressed belief that the servicepersons of the People's Army would effectively use those launch systems associated with the faith and will of the Korean mothers to firmly defend the socialist country and shower the fire of revenge on the intruders into this land.
At the ceremony a presentation certificate was handed to an official concerned of a unit of the Korean People's Army.
Present there were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials of the union, KPA servicepersons and exemplary members of the union.

Art show of KPA opens

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- The 16th Art Show of the Korean People's Army opened at the April 25 House of Culture today to mark the 50th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. Presented to the show are over 270 pieces of art works created by KPA artists and servicemen.
The exhibition hall is divided into parts of the illustrious commanders of Mt. Paektu, the great brilliant commander of the Songun policy, the Fatherland Liberation War and the Songun era. On display in the center of the hall is computer-aided picture "figure portraits of the three generals of Mt. Paektu" and, around it, there are Korean paintings, oil paintings, posters, prints, calligraphic and handicraft works, sculptures, etc.
Among them are the oil painting "Song of General Kim Il Sung Reverberates Over Seoul", the Korean painting "Sailors in Jumunjin Remembered By the Motherland", and the oil "July 27". They represent the unique military idea of President Kim Il Sung and the heroic struggle of the army and the people of the DPRK, who performed feats in the righteous battles to annihilate the enemy.
The exhibits also include works reflecting the conviction of sure victory and the fighting spirit of KPA servicemen determined to wipe out the aggressors from this land under the Songun leadership of Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il and thus bring about an eternal victory of July 27. Typical of them are the posters "Soldier Defends Motherland" and "Fireworks of War Victory Will Be Shot Again" and the sculpture "We Will Mercilessly Crush the Enemy".
The opening address was made by KPA general Pak Jae Gyong.

U.S. indicted for abusing UN Charter

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Lawyers Committee issued a detailed report today to indict to the world the U.S. forces present in South Korea for their criminal acts in abusing the names of the "UN Forces" and the "UN Command." The U.S., it says, set the stage for a "commemorative event" in the name of the "un command" in South Korea on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of the Korean Armistice Agreement (AA). This is one more ruse intended to tamper with the history in which they inflicted all sorts of misfortunes and pains upon the Korean people for over half a century in violation of the un charter and international law under the cloak of the "UN Forces" and the "UN Command" and mislead the international community.
    The report continues:
The "UN Forces" and the "UN Command" in South Korea are not offsprings of the UN Charter and a legitimate UN resolution but are camouflages faked up by the U.S. to cover up its acts of aggression.
UNSC resolution 84 (1950) which the U.S. puts up as a legal ground for the organization of the "UN Command" has no legal effect as it offers no legal ground for the organization of the command and did not go through necessary procedures of voting stipulated in the UN Charter.
The resolution did not say a word about organizing the command in South Korea. It only recommended that the "unified command" under the U.S. uses military forces and other assistance offered by the 15 satellite countries.
However, the U.S. in breach of the UNSC resolution, unilaterally renamed the "Unified Command" the "UN Command" and went to the lengths of committing military actions in defiance of the UN Charter, presenting the U.S. troops and the troops of its satellites in South Korea as "UN Forces".
The fact that the U.S. illegally abused the UN name in the Korean War was clearly proved by a number of testimonies made in the subsequent period.
Former UN secretary general Boutros Boutros Ghali in a June 24, 1994, letter addressed to the Foreign Minister of the DPRK as regards the issue of dismantling the "UN Command" in South Korea, said that the command had nothing to do with the un.
At the 28th session of the un general assembly, delegates of many countries denounced it as illegal to call the "U.S. Command," for which the UNSC is not responsible, the "UN Command", saying that the U.S. fabricated the UNSC resolution 84 (1950) in a bid to launch a war of aggression in Korea and attach the "UN" name to the U.S. troops' helmets.
The resolution which the U.S. puts forth as a legal ground for the organization of the "UN Command" in South Korea is an illegal document that did not go through necessary procedures for adopting decisions stipulated in the UN Charter.
Its invalidity was brought into a bolder relief by resolution 90 of the UNSC.
It is urgently required for peace and security in the Korean peninsula and the rest of Asia to take the helmets of the "UN Forces" and the "UN Command" off the U.S. troops and immediately withdraw them from South Korea.
There is neither legal ground nor justification for the U.S. to keep its aggression troops in South Korea under the "UN" helmets. Paragraph 60 of article 4 of the Armistice Agreement stipulates that within three months after its signing, a political conference of a higher level should be held to settle through negotiation the question of the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Korea.
Resolution 3390 (XXX) B which was adopted at the 30th session of the UN General Assembly provides for dismantling the "UN Command" and withdrawing all foreign forces under the flag of the un from South Korea.
The adoption and the publication of the "agreement on reconciliation, non-aggression, cooperation and exchange between the north and the south" on February 19, 1992 and the North-South Joint Declaration on June 15, 2000, in particular, opened an epochal phase for the reconciliation and cooperation between the north and the south of Korea and independent national reunification, leaving the U.S. with no more pretext to maintain its troops in South Korea any longer.
The U.S. should stop its unseemly farce of holding the "commemorative event" in the name of the "UN Command" with no legal justification, which is intended to cover up the crimes it has committed in Korea for over half a century and deceive the international community, but withdraw its troops from South Korea at the earliest date possible and stop all its moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK.

Kim Jong Il inspects KPA unit

Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected KPA unit 292 on the front line. He dropped in at the operation command room to receive a report on the situation from its commander and learn in detail about the performance of the unit's duty before seeing soldiers' training.
Greatly pleased to see all the servicemen of the unit trained as stalwart fighters, he set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines in further increasing the combat capacity of the unit.
He gave high appreciation to the officers and men of the unit for having invented and manufactured apparatuses instrumental in conducting more effective training and thoroughly carrying out their training programs with all wisdom and energy, adding that the first revolutionary task of soldiers is to do training well.
He acquainted himself in detail with the political and ideological work and the management of the unit, going round the servicemen's hall, a mess hall, a non-staple foodstuff store, a bean sprouts cultivating chamber, a mushroom cultivating chamber and other places.
The KPA servicemen are leading an affluent life after building their posts well whether they are in a deep mountain or on a remote island, he said, adding that this miraculous change is a shining fruition of the noble mentality of the revolutionary army of the DPRK. His next destination was a company of the unit.
During the inspection no details escaped him ranging from entertainment means, lodging conditions to the quality of water in the washroom to show deep loving care for the servicemen of the company.
He conversed with servicemen of the company in a warm atmosphere.
He kindly asked them how old and tall they are, when they joined the army, how much they gained in stature after their recruitment and inquired after the health of their families in their native places. Noting that the servicemen are the revolutionary comrades and fighters devoting their youth to the party and the revolution far away from their hometowns and parents, he stressed the need for the commanding officers to treasure and love their soldiers as their real brothers and sisters would do and take care of their living with maternal love at all times.
He had a photo session with the servicemen of the unit.
