U.S. urged to drop anti-DPRK hostile policy

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Romesh Chandra, honorary chairman of the World Peace Council who is also honorary chairman of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea issued a statement on June 20 on the occasion of the Month (June 25-July 27) of Anti-U.S. Imperialist Joint Struggle. In the statement he extended support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle to achieve the independent reunification of the country under the banner of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
In order to ensure peace and security on the Korean peninsula and the rest of Asia, the U.S. should immediately withdraw its nuclear weapons and aggression forces from South Korea, drop its hostile policy toward the DPRK and positively respond to the DPRK proposal for concluding a non-aggression treaty with the U.S., he urged.
He expressed the belief that pursuant to the unique Songun policy of leader Kim Jong Il the Korean people will smash the imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK, build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation and achieve the independent reunification of the county in the near future.

Anti-DPRK moves denounced

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- The British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea and the British Society for Friendship with Korea released a joint statement on June 12 to denounce the U.S. and the Japanese authorities for their undisguised moves to stifle the DPRK. Recalling that the Japanese reactionaries made it difficult for the DPRK's cargo and passenger ship "Mangyongbong-92" to call at a Japanese port after a declaration containing points that pull up the DPRK was released at the recent G-8 summit under the manipulation of the U.S., the statement dismissed this as a sheer inhuman act.
The Japanese militarists have joined the U.S. in its hostile moves against the DPRK to realize their old dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere", the statement said, holding that the very dangerous moves of the U.S. imperialists and the Japanese reactionaries are pushing the situation on the Korean peninsula to a touch-and-go situation.
The British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea and the British Society for Friendship with Korea strongly demanded the U.S. and Japan get the Korean issue off their hands and stop asserting sanctions against the DPRK, which may lead to an actual war, the statement noted.
The statement demanded the British government refrain from joining the U.S. in its call for sanctions against the DPRK and pursue its own and independent policy toward the DPRK.

KCNA warns against any infringement upon DPRK's sovereignty

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- High-ranking officials of eleven countries met in Madrid recently and discussed the so-called "Madrid proposal" under the manipulation of the U.S., talking about the DPRK's "nuclear and missile issues and drug smuggling." There the U.S. made trite, far-fetched assertions that the DPRK-flagged trading vessels illegally transport drugs, counterfeit money and weapons of mass destruction and its followers agreed to lay a tight international siege to the DPRK under the pretext of "preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and drugs."
What should not be overlooked is that this agreement has something in common with the proposal for "sea blockade against the DPRK" made public by Bush in May last.
This indicates that the U.S. preemptive block strategy aimed to isolate and stifle the DPRK internationally has entered the phase of its implementation and the touch-and-go situation created on the Korean peninsula may lead to an outbreak of war anytime.
The DPRK has already served a strong warning that it would regard sea blockade against the DPRK as a breach of the armistice agreement, a declaration of war and a war action, in the long-run, no matter how hard the U.S. may try to cover up its nature.
The Bush administration is much publicizing the proposal as an "international agreement" but those eleven countries represent neither the international community nor the un and, moreover, if they intercept the DPRK-flagged vessels, that will be, in fact, an act of wantonly violating international law.
The present international law defines it as a serious infringement upon the sovereignty of other countries to stop, search and seize ships of those countries in the open sea.
Therefore, those acts have so far been dismissed as piracy and a blatant challenge to the un charter.
Some countries which profess respect for international law and the un charter have chimed in with the U.S. blockade operation little short of openly infringing upon the sovereignty of the DPRK, pursuant to its unilateral and self-justified strategy for world supremacy. This can not but be a height of folly.
The reality clearly proves that the Bush administration is the world's biggest group of hooligans who utterly disregard international law and the UN Charter.
It is a publicly recognized fact that the U.S. is the most dangerous country in the world that proliferates nukes, missiles and drugs.
It is the U.S. which harassed mid-east peace and stability by transferring nuclear-related technology to Israel and it is again the U.S. which gained huge profits by massively selling missiles to different parts of the world.
Some countries are supporting the U.S. in its moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK, oblivious of those facts. They should clearly know that their act will only result in allowing the U.S. to becloud even their political future and bar their economic prosperity.
If the U.S. and its followers infringe upon the sovereignty of the DPRK even a bit, talking about "blockade" and "sanctions", the DPRK, as it has already clarified, will deal merciless retaliatory blows at them no matter who its opponent is.

Foreign diplomats visit Korean Computer Center

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Diplomatic envoys and staff members of the Cuban, Egyptian, Palestinian, Syrian and Libyan embassies here visited the Korean Computer Center on June 26 on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. They went round rooms of the center, being briefed on the fact that the center has greatly contributed to the computerization of the national economy and the development of program technology since it was set up as a creditable center of scientific and technological industry of the country under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Organization against pro-U.S. forces inaugurated in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Federation of University Student Councils on June 23 released a special resolution on inaugurating the "headquarters of the movement for eliminating pro-U.S. stooges and anti-reunification forces". Recalling that thanks to the June 15 Joint Declaration the spirit of "by our nation itself" is alive and the atmosphere of great national unity is mounting, the resolution said:
Not content with joining the U.S. imperialists in their moves to stifle the north, the pro-U.S. and anti-reunification forces are asserting the prolongation of investigation under the "law on special inspection" in a bid to hamstring every effort for south-north exchange.
It is necessary to throw overboard the pro-U.S. and anti-reunification forces keen to prolong their remaining days, leaving the destiny of the nation to the tender mercy of foreign forces and it is impossible to achieve the peace and the independent reunification of the country as long as they are still at large.
Calling for completely burying those forces, the resolution said that to this end the headquarters of the movement has been inaugurated to mark a day of every week as a day of the movement and launch a resolute struggle by pooling the efforts of youth and students.

Anti-U.S. rallies in different parts of Korea

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Mass rallies took place in South Phyongan Province, North Hwanghae Province and Kangwon Province on June 26 on the occasion of June 25, the Day of Anti-U.S. Imperialist Struggle. At the rallies, the chairmen of provincial people's committees and representatives from all walks of life said that the Korean war was a war of brigandish aggression ignited by the U.S. imperialists to realize their world supremacy with Korea as a springboard as well as the most criminal mass-killing war unprecedented in the world history of war.
The U.S. aggressive imperialists made desperate efforts to win in the war, committing mass killings of civilians, but they could not break the indomitable will of the people's army and people of Korea who rose up as one, firmly rallied around the party and the leader, the speakers stressed.
They said that if the U.S. imperialists unleash another reckless war of aggression, oblivious of the historical lesson that they knelt down before the Korean people and signed the armistice agreement 50 years ago, the army and people of Korea would wipe out the aggressors to the last man with a strong military deterrent force.

U.S. atrocities against Korean people

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- The United States has inflicted immeasurable misfortune and sufferings on the Korean people since August 1866 when the U.S. pirate ship "General Sherman" intruded into a river of Korea. From the early 20th century, the U.S. imperialists had tried hard to turn Korea into its colony, instigating the Japanese imperialists to occupy Korea and suppress the Korean people.
After the end of world war II, the U.S. illegally occupied South Korea with the mobilization of aggression forces and started a "military rule".
In the first five years of the South Korean occupation alone, the occupiers killed more than one million patriots and other people in South Korea.
The U.S. imperialists' brutal nature was brought into bold relief in the Korean war.
From the beginning of the war to the summer of 1951 they massacred more than one million civilians in South Korea and committed organized and premeditated slaughters of innocent people in areas of the northern half of Korea they temporarily occupied.
In the period of the war they dropped 18 bombs per one square kilometer of the northern half of Korea on an average to totally destroy towns and villages. They even used chemical and biological weapons without hesitation.
Their murder and exploitation have continued in South Korea even after the ceasefire and peace has not yet been settled on the Korean peninsula.
They are now beefing up the aggression forces in and around South Korea under the pretext of the "nuclear issue" to bring a nuclear holocaust to the Korean nation.
All the Korean people will invigorate the anti-U.S. struggle to get the U.S. imperialists, the root cause of all the misfortune and sufferings, out of South Korea, and achieve the country's reunification.

U.S. forces' redeployment in S. Korea denounced

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and South Korea on June 5 agreed to transfer the U.S. second infantry division deployed near the military demarcation line and the U.S. troops stationed in Ryongsan base, Seoul to areas south of the River Han. Rodong Sinmun today carries a signed article in this regard.
    It says:
The redeployment of the U.S. forces in South Korea is the biggest-ever transfer since the ceasefire and a very dangerous military move which should not be overlooked.
The redeployment is a measure taken by the U.S. according to its new military strategy, a strategy for a preemptive attack on the DPRK.
The U.S. imperialists are applying a war method based on high-tech with main emphasis put on missile strikes and air raids rather than land attack in carrying out their war of overseas aggression. They regard the U.S. forces deployed near the military demarcation line unfavorable for fighting a war of high intensity, given that the Korean peninsula is bounded on three sides by sea and has narrow land front.
It is the view of U.S. military strategists that when a war starts in Korea, Seoul and areas north of it will turn into sea of fire in a matter of a few days due to North Korea's strong artillery fire power and none of the U.S. troops within its firing range will be able to survive. That's why they are now craftily working to prevent disastrous consequences through the redeployment of the U.S. forces before the outbreak of a war.
The redeployment of the U.S. forces in South Korea is a very dangerous military measure prompted by the U.S. imperialist attempt to use nukes in the second Korean war.
This is by no means a step for military detente.
If the Bush forces opt for taking a military option as now a war on the Korean peninsula will be unavoidable.

Glorification of anti-Japanese patriotic traditions called for

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today editorially calls for firmly upholding and successfully carrying forward the anti-Japanese patriotic traditions under the leadership of Kim Jong Il to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation and achieve the historic cause of national reunification as early as possible. The editorial says:
The anti-Japanese patriotic traditions were established by President Kim Il Sung while leading the great anti-Japanese war to victory. They are Juche-oriented patriotic traditions whereby the Korean people can hew out the destiny of their country and nation their own way and on their own, traditions of resolute anti-imperialist struggle for independence whereby they fight against imperialists in a do-or-die spirit tightly holding arms in their hands and patriotic traditions in which love for the country is blended with that of people.
The Korean people built the republic and won a shining victory in the hard-fought fatherland liberation war in the same patriotic spirit with which the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners readily dedicated their lives to the liberation of the country. All miracles and victories achieved by the republic during a 55-year-long history are a precious fruition of those traditions.
The present circumstances of our struggle are not different from those of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle where the Korean people could believe only in their own strength and they had to pull through indescribably rigorous trials.
Everybody should uphold the Songun policy, the patriotic policy of the Workers' Party of Korea, with loyalty.
All the officers and men of the people' army should become the first-line death-defying corps defending socialism, the contingent taking the lead in upholding Kim Jong Il's politics of giving priority to the army just as the anti-Japanese fighters did when hewing the untrodden path of revolution with arms.
All the party members and working people should thoroughly implement the policy of putting all the people under arms and turning the whole country into a fortress, having warm love for the army, earnestly learning military affairs and consistently assisting the people's army.
In order to firmly uphold and glorify the traditions it is necessary for all people to become true patriots who firmly maintain the principle of national independence in all fields and prove their real worth in the drive to build a great prosperous powerful nation.

Congratulations to Latvian President

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to Vaira Vike-Freiberga upon her reelection as President of Latvia. In the message Kim expressed belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to develop on good terms and wished the president greater success in her responsible work for the country's prosperity and people's well-being.

U.S. report on human rights and democracy refuted

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry in an answer given Friday to a question put by KCNA accused the United States of pulling up the DPRK again over its human rights and democracy performance. He said:
The U.S. State Department in the "2002-2003 report on human rights and democracy" on June 24 groundlessly slandered the DPRK again, saying that it is deeply concerned about the human rights records in the DPRK and it would take a more resolute measure to radically improve the human rights and democracy performance in the DPRK.
It is open secret that the U.S. is escalating psychological warfare and blockade operation against the DPRK on various, groundless charges in a premeditated way.
The smear campaign launched by the U.S. against the DPRK over its human rights and democracy performance is aimed to tarnish the dignity and the image of the political system in the DPRK, increase international pressure upon it and isolate and stifle it in the end.
The extremely hostile policy of the U.S. toward the DPRK and its more base plot against it will only heighten the vigilance of the army and people of the DPRK against the U.S. and will entail serious consequences.
