Japanese authorities urged not to block humanitarian service of Mangyongbong-92

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The Japanese authorities recently set in motion ministries and agencies concerned including the Maritime Safety Agency and the Ministry of National Land and Communications to watch, inspect and control ship "Mangyongbong-92" when it enters or leaves the port and during its anchoring, describing the ship as a "ship for illegal remittance", "spy ship", "ship transporting nuclear and missile parts" and "abduction and drug smuggling ship." Minju Joson today in a signed commentary denounces these allegations as premeditated and deliberate provocations to prevent Koreans in Japan from visiting their homeland and malign the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and the DPRK by barring the sail of the ship to Japan.
    The news analyst continues:
As to the ship "Mangyongbong-92," the only thing it has done so far since its first service was that it has provided the repatriation and home-visiting of Koreans from Japan and carried cargoes, exports, humanitarian aid materials, etc. to their destination, sailing between the DPRK and Japan. It only carried those persons and cargoes undergone Japanese customs inspection while strictly observing Japanese legislations.
Therefore, there is nothing to be questioned as the ship has not defied international law and has done nothing contrary to the Japanese laws.
It attracts our special attention that the Japanese authorities' provocative act against the ship has been viciously conducted after the recent U.S.-South Korea and the U.S.-Japan summit talks at which they had a confab on escalating hostile policy towards the DPRK and containing it by force under the pretext of its "nuclear issue."
The Japanese authorities should act in the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, with normal consideration, rectify its hostile policy towards the DPRK and ensure smooth service of the ship.

Drop of U.S. arms buildup plan demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- The Council for National Reconciliation and Independent Reunification reportedly issued a statement on June 6 under the title "we strongly denounce the results of the second meeting of the council for planning policy of the future South Korea-U.S. alliance which unilaterally followed the demands of the U.S." Referring to the fact that only military strategic demands of the U.S. including the reposition and arms buildup of the U.S. forces were unilaterally discussed at the meeting, the statement said that the U.S. forces' redistribution of aggressive and provocative character is intended to increase the possibility of a preemptive attack on the north and seek for their permanent presence in South Korea.
The organization will continue to fight together with the people for revision and abrogation of the shackling South Korea-U.S. "mutual defense treaty" and all sorts of "agreements", cancellation of the arms buildup plan, overall return of the U.S. military base in Pyongsan, etc.

Anniversary of inter-Korean joint declaration observed

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- Today marks the third anniversary of the historic Pyongyang summit meeting and the third anniversary of the publication of the north-south joint declaration. Rodong Sinmun in an editorial devoted to the day says:
The north-south summit meeting, the first of its kind in the history of national division, took place in the era of General Secretary Kim Jong Il and the north-south joint declaration based on the spirit of "by our nation itself" was adopted.
This was a brilliant result of his will for reunification and patriotism and marked a historic event that brought about the greatest success in the movement for national reunification.
The idea of "by our nation itself" serves as an inspiring banner that aroused the desire of the Korean nation for independent reunification.
This idea also serves as a strong driving force that turned the trend of the history of the nation into one toward. Independent reunification against the U.S.
The Koreans witnessed astonishing events in the course of the struggle for the implementation of the north-south joint declaration. This was entirely ascribable to Kim Jong Il's fixed patriotic will and outstanding political ability.
Our cause of reunification can advance along the legitimate course of its development only when the Koreans invariably implement the June 15 joint declaration on which hinge the destiny and future of the nation.
All the Koreans should turn out as one in the struggle to frustrate the U.S. moves for a nuclear war and defend the destiny of the nation in a do-or-die spirit.
They should feel proud of the self-reliant war deterrent force, the shield for the nation, and unanimously support it as they have enjoyed peace and stability thanks to the army built up under the Songun policy.
Our nation, having Kim Jong Il at the helm, will certainly reunify the country under the banner of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and build an independent, prosperous and reunified power in this land.
Minju Joson in an editorial says that no force can block or reverse the dynamic march to achieve independent reunification by implementing the June 15 joint declaration to the letter by the concerted efforts of the nation.

Rodong Sinmun on Kim Jong Il's leadership for independent reunification

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il has led the struggle to implement the June 15 joint declaration to the nationwide cause of achieving the independent reunification of the country by our nation itself and put the movement for national reunification on the track of national independence to meet our nation's demand for independence and interests, says Rodong Sinmun in a by-lined article today. He set forth a great proposition "by our nation itself", the basic spirit of the joint declaration, as the basic idea of the era and has wisely led the drive to apply it without the slightest deflection, the article notes, and goes on:
It was the brilliant fruition of the outstanding leadership of Kim Jong Il with steadfast will and faith in independent reunification that the movement for independent reunification could advance along the road of victory, recording the events of national history in relinking the severed blood ties and territory with the burning patriotic enthusiasm of the fellow countrymen despite the challenges and obstructions of the outside forces and anti-reunification forces.
He opened a new chapter of reconciliation and unity, the first of its kind in the history of national division, by wisely leading the work of implementing the historic June 15 joint declaration to achieve great national unity. This occupies a brilliant place in his leadership.
His great leadership served as the source of power which helped work world-startling miracles in the struggle of the Korean nation for independent reunification and achieve remarkable events and unimaginable successes unprecedented in the history of the national division.
Such remarkable events, unimaginable before the adoption of the joint declaration, could be brought in the era of independent national reunification under his wise leadership.
The movement of our fellow countrymen for independent national reunification will advance along the road of victory in the future, too, under the outstanding leadership of Kim Jong Il, the peerlessly great man of Mt. Paektu.

Grand Festival for National Reunification held

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- A Grand Festival for National Reunification was held in Pyongyang to mark the third anniversary of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. An opening ceremony of the festival was held before the monument to the three charters of national reunification today.
Attending there were President of the Presidium of the Supreme People' Assembly Kim Yong Nam, chairperson of the Central Committee of the Korean Chondoist Chongu Party Ryu Mi Yong and others.
Also present were overseas compatriots staying in the socialist homeland.
Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the North Side's Preparatory Committee for the Grand Festival for National Reunification to mark the third anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, said in his opening address that the festival is a nationwide grand festival for reunification which is simultaneously held amid the three-party solidarity of the north, south and overseas Koreans.
Expressing the belief that the festival would powerfully encourage the onward movement of all the fellow countrymen to defend sovereignty and peace and accelerate national reunification through national cooperation, he declared the festival open.
A large flag of the Korean Peninsula was hoisted.
Congratulatory messages and letters from South Korean organizations and different regions overseas were introduced at the opening ceremony.
During the festival a commemorative meeting, photo exhibition, seminar, art performance and other colorful functions were held.
A closing ceremony was held at the central youth hall on the same day.

Meeting held to mark anniversary of June 15 Inter-Korean Declaration

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- A meeting to mark the 3rd anniversary of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration was held in front of the monument to the three charters of national reunification here on June 15. Addressing the meeting, Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, said that the historic Pyongyang summit and the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration were a shining fruition of the noble patriotic intention of Kim Jong Il who has rendered devoted service, regarding it as his life-long mission to carry out President Kim Il Sung's instructions for national reunification.
After the publication of the joint declaration Kim Jong Il provided energetic guidance to convert the inter-Korean relations into those between Koreans and usher in a new era of history in which the Koreans pool their efforts to solve the issue of national reunification by their concerted efforts, he said.
Underscoring the need to strengthen national cooperation in every way under the uplifted banner of the joint declaration so as to avert the danger of an imminent war and protect the peace of the country and safety of the nation he continued:
All the Koreans should promote contact and dialogue in the idea of "by our nation itself" and expand the scope of national cooperation through multi-faceted cooperation and exchange.
At the same time, they should never tolerate any move to chill national cooperation and foster confrontation against the trend of the times and humiliating "cooperation" with outsiders.
They should never allow the U.S. imperialists to go ahead with the moves for aggression and intervention aimed to infringe upon the dignity and the sovereignty of the Korean nation. The Korean nation should get the U.S. forces withdrawn from South Korea by its concerted efforts.
The South Korean authorities should refrain from cooperating with the outsiders in their anti-DPRK racket to start a new war but join the nation in its efforts to sincerely implement the June 15 joint declaration.
We should uphold the slogan of "by our nation itself" and firmly unite with political parties, organizations and figures from all walks of life who support and wish the independent reunification of the country regardless of whether they are persons in power or civilians and irrespective of their party affiliation, ideology and political views.
We should frustrate all the U.S. moves to bar the inter-Korean relations from improving and perpetuate the division of Korea and certainly force it to pay a high price for all sorts of untold misfortune and crimes it has brought to the Korean nation for nearly 60 years.
The DPRk's Songun policy is a genuine patriotic policy as it defends the dignity and the sovereignty of the entire nation and guarantees the safety and the prosperity of the nation, he said, calling upon all the Koreans to actively support the Songun policy and uphold it with one and the same patriotic mind.
Then its attendants listened the recorded congratulatory speeches sent to the festival by leader Kim Chol of Chondoism, permanent representative of the preparatory committee of the headquarters for the promotion of 2003 joint national events in South Korea on behalf of the south side and General Secretary Rim Min Sik of the joint secretariat of Pomminryon on behalf of overseas side.
They called for rejecting the outside interference through national cooperation and thoroughly implementing the joint declaration to achieve national reunification, the desire of all the Koreans.
An appeal to the 70 million Koreans upon which the north, south and overseas preparatory committees for the grand national festival for reunification agreed was read out at the meeting.
Noting that the unity of the whole nation paves the way for opening a bright prospect of achieving reconciliation and reunification by the concerted efforts of the nation and preventing the disaster of war and guaranteeing the survival of the nation and its prosperity, the appeal called for promoting the national reconciliation and unity and vigorously ushering in an era of national independence and peace. Whoever loves the country and nation should support the joint declaration and actively turn out to implement it irrespective of ideology, religious belief and political view, the appeal noted.
The meeting was attended by Kim Yong Sae, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party who is chairman of the north side's preparatory committee for the festival, Ryu Mi Yong, chairperson of the C.C., the Chondoist Chongu Party, senior officials of social organizations, officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, officials of the scientific, educational, cultural and art and public health and press institutions and overseas compatriots staying in the socialist homeland.

Functions held to mark 3rd anniversary of inter-Korean joint declaration

Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- A photo exhibition was held at the Grand People's Study House today to mark the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. Displayed there were photographs showing immortal leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il who has exerted tireless efforts for the reunification of the country and achievements made by Koreans in the north and the south and overseas in the movement for national reconciliation, unity, peace and reunification under the banner of the declaration, more than 150 in all.
Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the North Side's Preparatory Committee for the Grand Festival for National Reunification, made a speech there. He said that the photo exhibition would help the Korean people keenly realize once again that Kim Jong Il is a symbol of national dignity, lodestar of national reunification and the sun of the nation and deepen their conviction that they would always emerge victorious and achieve the cause of national reunification thanks to the great Songun policy.
A seminar was held at the Grand People's Study House today to mark the day.
Speakers including An Kyong Ho, director of the secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said, that declaration provided by Kim Jong Il to bring about an epochal turn in the movement for the reunification of the country is the most brilliant of the exploits he performed in leading the cause of reunification.
What is important in those exploits is that he rallied broad patriotic forces for reunification close under the banner of the declaration and brought about an epochal turn in the movement for national reunification, they stressed, adding:
The movement for national reunification is characterized by the fact that it is a movement for the great unity of all the fellow countrymen around Kim Jong Il and it has been placed on a higher level to solve the issue of reunification by the efforts of our nation itself.
Underscoring the great significance of the great proposition of "by our nation itself" set out by him in the national history, they stressed this significance lies in that he provided a great banner of independent reunification and great national unity under which to firmly maintain and truly implement the principle of national independence, the fundamental principle of national reunification, and rally all Koreans close as a united force.
All the achievements gained in the movement for national reunification since the publication of the declaration are the shining fruition of his great Songun leadership, the speakers said.
They called for invariably preserving and thoroughly implementing the main spirit and fundamental idea of the declaration and resolutely struggling against all anti-reunification moves by concerted efforts of all patriotic forces for reunification.
An art performance was given at the central youth hall today to mark the day.
Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, and Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the C.C., the Korean Social Democratic Party who is chairman of the north side's preparatory committee of the festival, and others were among the audience.

Election committees begin their work

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Preparations for the election of deputies to the 11th term Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK are brisk across the country. Provincial (municipal), city (district) and county election committees were organized and started their work according to the rules for the enforcement of the law on the election of deputies to people's assemblies at all levels in the DPRK.
Election committees were also inaugurated in the military field.

Solidarity meeting held in Russia

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- A meeting for solidarity with the Korean people was held in Moscow on June 10 on the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. Present there were leadership members of the council of the Union of Communist Parties-the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the Chairman and the Secretary General of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK, the first vice-chairman of the International Peace Fund Association, officials of the Russian Academy of Sciences, war veterans, journalists of the Voice of Russia and figures from political, social, academic and press circles.
At the meeting speakers said that the joint declaration which clarifies the fundamental principle and ways for Korea's reunification serves as a landmark for reunification.
    They went on:
A lot of work has been done for Korea's reunification over the last 3 years as evidenced by the repatriation of former unconverted long-term prisoners, reunions of separated families and relatives, economic cooperation between the north and the south of Korea in different fields.
The U.S. should stop at once its dastardly moves to hamstring the inter-Korean reconciliation and reunification process and isolate and stifle the DPRK.
The joint declaration which calls for achieving the country's reunification independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il will surely be implemented, they noted, expressing firm solidarity with the Korean people in their struggle to achieve national reunification.

KCNA urges world community to beware of Japan's militarization

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Japan is moving fast to emerge a military power and launch expansion overseas. War maneuvers under the simulated conditions of an "emergency" are now under way after the passage of bills on "emergency" through the diet. The Prime Minister rendered the "peace constitution" politically dead when he openly underscored the need to revise the constitution, saying that "Self-Defense Forces" (SDF) means an army.
Timed to coincide with his outbursts, the right-wing reactionaries let loose a spate of outcries calling for a war and justifying Japan's past crimes, something unprecedented in its history.
These facts call upon the international community to be beware of Japan moving so fast to emerge a military power and launch its expansion overseas.
Japan has taken a series of judicial measures in a bid to render the postwar "peace constitution" invalid.
Three bills on "emergency" were passed through the diet by a majority vote recently. This is little short of completely ditching the "peace constitution", which had been hard hit by the carriage of the "law on emergency in surrounding areas" and the "law on special measures against terrorism" in the past.
Japan keen on emerging a political power, had long called for "emergency" legislations only to meet a strong rebuff of anti-war forces at home and abroad.
The "law on overseas troop dispatch" and the "law on emergency in surrounding areas" were adopted after the outbreak of the Persian Gulf War in the 1990s. They paved the way for the overseas advance of the SDF and the steady expansion of the sphere of its activities.
Japan has actively joined in war actions in various regions under the pretext of "supporting anti-terrorism war" taking the reckless war fought by the U.S. against terrorism after the "September 11 incident" as the golden opportunity of adopting "laws on emergency".
Japan listed the DPRK as the first target of its overseas aggression.
It is clearly proved by the fact that Japan cited the non-existent "threat" from the DPRK as a pretext to adopt the dangerous and aggressive laws on "emergency".
Japan has not yet shaken off its disgrace of being an enemy state though over half a century has passed since the end of the war. Its attempt to justify its war actions will only aggravate the situation on the Korean Peninsula that remains complicated due to its nuclear issue and escalate the military tensions among Asian countries.
Japan is well advised to drop its old dream of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere and behave with discretion.

KCNA attacks Japan's hostile action against DPRK ship

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Nowadays, the Japanese authorities are persistently pursuing a hostile policy towards the DPRK, in support of the U.S. strategy aimed to stifle the DPRK. Such policy has clearly been evidenced by the fact that they used the largest security forces and means to check the service of DPRK's ship "Mangyongbong-92". This cannot but be taken as a serious development.
Such action is a sinister move to impair the growing international prestige of the DPRK and sap its influence. It is also one more political repression of Chongryon (General Association of Korean Residents in Japan), a dignified overseas citizens organization of the DPRK, and Korean residents in Japan.
This is an intolerable breach of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, in which the two countries agreed to settle their unpleasant past and establish fresh good-neighborly and friendly relations, and a grave provocation endangering the destiny and the prospect of the declaration.
Over the past ten-odd years the ship "Mangyongbong-92" has sailed from Wonsan to Niigata as a symbol of humanitarianism and DPRK-Japan friendship, doing nothing contrary to the Japanese and international laws.
Nevertheless, the Japanese authorities have branded this unsuspicious ship as a "ship for illegal remittance", "spy ship" and "carrier of nuclear and missile components". Under the pretext of "inspection" of the ship, they set in motion relevant ministries and agencies and sent at least 10 vessels of the maritime safety agency and nearly 2,000 security agents to Niigata port, creating a terror-ridden atmosphere that can be seen only in case of emergency so as to prevent the ship from entering the port.
The Japanese authorities have long resorted to all sorts of wrongdoings targeted against the ship. Finding it impossible to stop the ship from making service on the strength of the present law, the authorities called for "inspection of equipment" of the ship all of sudden although it is equipped with modern facilities and has provided routine services without an accident so far and went to the lengths of resorting to such a mean act of putting a brake on its routine service.
All the facts suffice to prove that the Japanese reactionaries' moves against the DPRK are being put into mean and dangerous practice beyond the smear campaign.
What is serious is that the Japanese government is playing the role of a shock brigade in carrying out the "further steps" and the "hard-line measures" against the DPRK discussed at the summit talks of the U.S., Japan and South Korea as regards the DPRK's "nuclear issue," while becoming more undisguised in its hostile policy towards the DPRK.
By preventing the service of Mangyongbong-92 the Japanese authorities more glaringly revealed their unethical and immoral true nature as they did not hesitate to infringe upon the humanitarian idea and even the international relations to carry out the U.S. policy to stifle the DPRK.
If this means the start of their "sanctions" against the DPRK, it would entail very serious consequences. The Japanese authorities should mind p's and q's about it.
If the authorities keep barring the service of the ship despite the DPRK's warnings, it will be compelled to take a necessary countermeasure and Japan will be held wholly accountable for all the ensuing consequences.

Korean scriptwriting company

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- June 14 is the 55th anniversary of the Korean Scriptwriting Company. The scenario writers committee, the predecessor of the company, was formed with only two scriptwriters. It has developed to be a powerful scriptwriting center with competent writers.
It has created hundreds of Juche-based scenarios suitable for the ideological and emotional life and the aesthetic sense of the Korean people.
Its maiden work was "My Home Village". It created many scenarios including "Scouts," "the Spinner" and "Young People of Fishing Boat 'Kalmaegi'" during the Korean war and in the post- war period to powerfully inspire the people in the efforts for the victory in the war and socialist construction.
In the 1970s, it wrote revolutionary scenarios including "Mt. Paektu," "Flames Spreading Over the Land" and filmized immortal classics including "the Flower Girl". In the 1980s, it successfully solved the issue of portraying the leader in scripts including "Star of Korea" and "the Sun of the Nation" and thus contributed to bringing about a heyday in the film production.
In recent years it wrote "the Forest Sways," "Trunks Grow from the Roots," "Their Life Continues", "Rim Kkok Jong" and other masterpieces popular among the people for their unique ideas, contents, forms and methods of creation.
Typical of the masterpieces is the multi-part film "the Nation and Destiny" which represents the developing Korean film art.
The company has many able writers well known at home and abroad.

U.S. hit for unreasonable sophism

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz described the U.S. unabated military moves on the Korean Peninsula as something for detente during his recent tour of South Korea and Japan. Commenting on this, Minju Joson today says that his utterances are meant to shift the blame for the disturbing developments on the peninsula onto the DPRK and justify the U.S. long-term military presence in South Korea and the rest of Asia and its arms buildup and war moves for its world supremacy.
U.S. loud-mouthed increased deterrent force against the DPRK means increased military pressure on the DPRK, the news analyst says, and goes on:
This will only result in a more acute standoff between the DPRK and the U.S. on the peninsula.
The DPRK cannot remain a passive on-looker to the ever-increasing U.S. military pressure.
The DPRK will as ever meet the U.S. military pressure with stronger military muscle no matter what others may say. It has a great Songun policy and unbreakable singlehearted unity. It also has potential and will strong enough to put its resolution into practice.

GIs' crimes in S. Korea disclosed

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The Nationwide Special Committee for Probing the Truth Behind the GIs' Massacres on June 13 issued the fifth instalment of a joint white paper, disclosing just part of the crimes the u.s. imperialists committed in South Korea from 1957 to 1959. The paper said:
In this period GIs killed innocent South Koreans, committed violence against them and looted their properties and valuables or destroyed them.
On February 25, 1958, GIs stationed in Puphyong, Inchon detained Kim Chun Il, 14-year-old shoe-shining boy in an officers' quarters for no reason and brutally clubbed, whipped and stabbed him. As if it were not enough with this, they pulled his toenails and hair with a pair of pincers and cut it with an electric hair-clipper. Then they painted his head and face with tar before putting him into a wooden box. After nailing the box they carried it by a helicopter and dropped it over an airfield of the U.S. first army corps in Uijongbu, Kyonggi Province. This shuddering case is called a Puphyong incident of throwing away a boy inside a box from a helicopter.
GIs killed South Koreans in the most brutal and barbarous way and committed violence against them, regardless of time and place. For example, they shot a 3-year-old child to death, on a charge that he stole gasoline. They indiscriminately fired guns at South Koreans considering them to be pheasants or animals, thus killing or seriously wounding them.
At around 10 p.m. on December 31, 1959, GIs forcibly took Pak Hwa Ja, 20, residing in Kodung-gol, Karung-ri, Uijongbu-up, and Yun Sun Ja, 25, residing in Saengyon-ri, Tongduchon-up in Yangju county, Kyonggi Province, to their barracks. There they stripped them off and painted their backs and lower parts of their bodies brown and kicked them out of the barracks. This monstrous and barbarous outrage is called the "Uijongbu incident of painting women."
GIs' rape of South Korean women increased on a daily basis.
In the first four months of 1959 the rape case numbered over 100. GIs did not care at all whether it was a 14-year-old girl or a 50-year-old woman to satisfy their carnal desires and employed every possible means and method for this crime.
On April 22, 1957, at least 80 MPs belonging to the 24th division of the U.S. army encircled 184 houses in areas around Yonphung-ri, Phaju county and illegally searched more than 100 stores and dwelling houses to rob them of 70,000 hwan and 2,324 articles worth about 10 million hwan at market price.
From June 3 to 9 in 1959 GIs including lieut. Commander Francis Fox, chief of the mp office of the construction battalion of the U.S. forces in far east, stationed in Uljiro, central district, Seoul searched the house of lady Jong Jin Suk in Huam-dong, Pyongsan district, Seoul, several times, looting articles. Not content with it, they took her to the mp office and searched her after denuding her.
From the ceasefire till today the GIs committed more than 2,000 cases of murder and all other crimes in South Korea on an annual average, killing or wounding more than 100,000 innocent citizens. This clearly reveals their true colours as the chief culprit of murder and brutes.
The Korean people will never forgive the u.s. imperialist aggressors, the source of all sorts of misfortune, sufferings and disasters of the Koreans' despite the flow of time but will certainly force them to pay for their crimes a thousand times.

KCNA issues detailed report on third anniversary of joint declaration

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The Korean Central News Agency today issued a detailed report on the occasion of the third anniversary of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. According to the report, the energetic guidance provided by General Secretary Kim Jong Il for carrying through the instructions of President Kim Il Sung for national reunification brought about a historic meeting of the heads of north and south Korea in Pyongyang in June Juche 89 (2000), the first of its kind in the history of national division.
    It said:
Kim Jong Il met with the South Korean President for hours to have an open-hearted discussion on important matters related to the destiny of the nation and national reunification. This resulted in the publication of the joint declaration, the banner of reconciliation, unity and independent reunification.
He has wisely led a struggle to preserve and implement it to the letter so that it may fully display its vitality as a declaration of national independence, unity and reunification.
Our republic has since reacted to the U.S. hard line to stifle the DPRK with the toughest stand and decisively countered the U.S. attempt to meddle in the issue of the Korean nation by the united efforts of the nation. And it has firmly maintained the principle of solving the problems raised in such a way as to create a favorable environment for the reconciliation, unity and reunification of the nation, always placing its interests above anything else, when conducting dialogue with the U.S. and improving its relations with the countries that have long been hostile toward the DPRK.
All the inter-Korean dialogues and contacts including ministerial talks have been held on the principle of national independence and cooperation and exchanges have taken place for the common prosperity of the nation. When an unpleasant incident occurred between the north and the south of Korea owing to the U.S. intervention and provocations, they set a good precedent by settling their issues on the basis of placing the destiny and interests of the nation above anything else.
Former honorary chairman Jong Ju Yong of the Hyundai Group of South Korea, representatives of South Korean media organizations, the chief delegate of the south side delegation to the second inter-Korean ministerial talks, the then chairwoman of the preparatory committee for founding the "Union for the Future of Korea," a South Korean songstress and her party from Japan and other personages of South Korean political parties, groupings and circles and compatriots have visited Pyongyang one after another since the June summit meeting.
Articles laid down in the joint declaration have been implemented to the letter. As a result, at least 60 unconverted long-term prisoners were repatriated early in September Juche 89 (2000) and reunions of separated families and relatives which had been held in Pyongyang and Seoul took place at the world-famous Mt. Kumgang Resort as more meaningful and broad-based events.
According to information available, nearly 300 dialogues, contacts, exchanges and joint events have taken place so far since the historic Pyongyang summit meeting. Among them are inter-Korean ministerial talks, red cross talks, meetings of the north-south committee for the promotion of economic cooperation and other inter-sector talks, joint events of the nation that took place on June 15, August 15, May Day, March 1 and on many other important occasions and cooperation and exchanges in economic, public, scientific, cultural and sports and other fields.
The last three years of inter-Korean relations showed that the nation defeated outsiders, patriotism prevailed over treachery, reunification beat division and progressives, conservatives, social classes and strata, persons in power and civilians advanced in unity only for the destiny of the fellow countrymen and the settlement of the reunification issue.
It is the present reality of inter-Korean relations that the joy and sorrow of the northerners are considered as those of the southerners and vice versa.
The might of patriotic Songun policy and the great vitality of the joint declaration have made the entire nation on the Korean Peninsula stand in confrontation with the U.S. and brought about a rapid growth in pro-reunification patriotic forces. Much upset by this, the reactionaries at home and abroad have become more reckless in their challenge.
However, the Korean people's will for reunification and faith based on the spirit of the joint declaration are so firm and transparent as to emerge ever-victorious.
No force on earth can block the dynamic march of the Koreans for reunification and they are sure to win as they are led by Kim Jong Il and there are the Songun policy very instrumental in the efforts for national independence and reunification and the June 15 joint declaration.

Inter-Korean rail links reconnected

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Ceremonies of reconnecting the east and west coastal rail links between the north and the south were held today separately on the occasion of the third anniversary of the publication of the historic June 15 joint declaration.
