Kim Jong Il inspects unit of KPA air force

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il Monday inspected unit 855 of the KPA air force. He was accompanied by vice Marshal of the KPA Kim Yong Chun, Chief of the KPA General Staff, and KPA generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong.
After receiving a salute, he looked round the monument to President Kim Il Sung's on-the-spot guidance, the room for the education in the revolutionary history and the room devoted to the history of the unit.
At the operation command room he acquainted himself in detail with the unit's performance of its duty.
Noting with great satisfaction that the unit has not only prepared all the pilots as human bombs in the sky through its strenuous efforts to thoroughly implement the WPK's self-defensive military line but reliably defended the territorial air of the country from the ever more undisguised moves of the imperialists for aggression, he highly praised its exploits and set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines in further increasing the unit's combat capability.
He learned in detail about the management of the unit and the political and ideological education of the servicepersons, making rounds of the compound of the barracks, the cold store and power station built by the unit and an education room, bedroom, washroom and other places of a company under the direct control of the unit.
He had a photograph taken with servicepersons of the unit.
His next destination was a unit honored with the title of O Jung Hup's 7th Regiment under the unit. He dropped in at the hall for getting ready for flight and the indoor training room to acquaint himself with pilots' training.
He took warm care of the living of the pilots with paternal love, going round a mess, kitchen, daily provision store, fish breeding ground and other places of the unit.
He spared time to see an art performance given by pilots.
He had a photo session with servicepersons of the unit.

Anti-U.S. and anti-war actions start in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- The headquarters of the Movement for the Promotion of Anti-U.S and Anti-War Actions and the Earlier Conclusion of a Non-Aggression Treaty Between North Korea and the U.S. reportedly called a press conference in Seoul on June 3. At the conference it declared the start of activities of the sit-in strike group and the visiting group of youth and students for peace against the U.S. and war as part of the preparations for holding a memorial service on the occasion of the first anniversary of the June 13 incident and a grand festival for national reunification on June 15. At the conference Yun Han Thak, co-chairman of the headquarters, said that the only way for the Korean nation to survive is to protect independence and peace through a nationwide anti-U.S. struggle and national cooperation now that the U.S. moves for a preemptive nuclear attack on the north are getting more undisguised.
At the conference Hong Sok Yong, head of the sit-in strike group who is co-chairman of the headquarters, released an appeal titled "Let us vent grudge of Hyo Sun and Mi Son through June 13-15 nationwide resistance for peace against the U.S. and war."
Anti-U.S and anti-war struggle no longer presents itself as an issue related to ideology but an urgent issue concerning the existence of the Korean nation, the appeal noted, calling for holding high the banner of anti-U.S. and anti-war struggle for peace to bring peace and security to this land.
Hwang Son, head of the visiting group of youth and students, read out "message to people."
At the conference the heads of the groups answered questions raised by journalists.
It was said that the visiting group of youth and students would depart from Chungbuk National University in Chongju on June 4 for Seoul through Iksan, Kwangju, Pusan, Taejon, Chunchon and Suwon to participate in the memorial service and grand festival to be held in Seoul on June 13.

KCNA dismisses ruckus over ship "Pongsu" as political charade

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- Recently media of Australia asserted that the crew of the DPRK trading cargo ship "Pongsu" should "be tried" while groundlessly linking the ship with the drug smuggling that occurred in Australia. They went to the lengths of raising the issue of expelling the DPRK Ambassador. They are seriously hurting the dignity of the DPRK while floating misinformation that the North Korean authorities may be involved in the drug smuggling.
This is nothing but a ridiculous act of joining the United States in its moves to build up a "united front" against the DPRK in a bid to tarnish its image on the international arena and isolate and stifle it and a deliberate provocation intended to bedevil the normal relations between the two countries.
The Korean people are stunned by the false propaganda launched by Australian media although objectivity and impartiality should be the basic ethics of the press.
The DPRK makes it clear once again that its government strictly bans drug misuse and smuggling and has nothing to do with the recent case.
It had already notified the Australian side that the ship "Pongsu" is a non-governmental trading ship and the ship owner side did not know about the case at all.
Nevertheless, no sooner had the case occurred than Australian media took issue with the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government, groundlessly linking them with the case before the truth behind it is probed. This proves that the case is not merely a drug matter but a premeditated and intentional political intrigue to hurt and stifle the DPRK under the pretext of its nuclear issue.
It is a revelation of the mean plot to internationalize the drug issue and slander the DPRK by taking advantage of the U.S. hostile policy towards it, the policy aimed to isolate and suffocate it by demanding it drop its nuclear weapon program first and putting international pressure upon it.
Whenever an opportunity presents itself, the U.S. cites a nuclear issue and drug matter for launching an anti-DPRK smear campaign and misleading the world opinion.
All facts indicate that the ship "Pongsu" case is a product of the political intrigues of the U.S. and some undesirable forces in Australia to invent a pretext to impair the authority of the DPRK and attack it.
The DPRK will closely follow how the case will be handled and never allow any attempt to use the case for hurting its authority and dignity.

KCNA refutes U.S. smear campaign

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- The United States is groundlessly pulling up the DPRK over such issues as "terrorism", "drug trafficking", "abduction", "counterfeiting of money," etc. To briefly comment on this, this is part of the bush administration's foolish and shameful moves to ostracize the DPRK politically and morally on the international arena and isolate and stifle it by terming it a "rogue state".
The Korean people have the socialist system of their own choice and reliable economic foundation and potentials which they have built up with much efforts for scores of years.
Therefore, there is no need for the DPRK to do such illegal acts as "drug trafficking" and "counterfeiting of money" overseas. Moreover, it needs not to have its political system and economic system guaranteed by someone.
The DPRK government has built up economy on its own and exerted strenuous efforts to stabilize the people's living despite the ceaseless blockade on the part of the hostile forces including the U.S.
It issued cabinet resolutions 32, 128 and 129 through which it increased the living allowances of working people as part of its measure to improve the standard of people's living. It also promoted several economic reforms and has positively encouraged joint ventures with foreign countries.
Last year, in particular, it took an important measure of refiting the prices of all commodities and raising living allowances and conducting economic management according to the step.
This year it adopted a law on accounting and developed farmers' markets into markets selling varieties of consumer goods and took several other practical measures that can be implemented by the efforts of our people to drastically boost economy and improve the standard of people's living.
Markets found in different parts of the country are selling and buying not only agricultural products but industrial goods.
The DPRK wishes to receive as much cooperation as possible from other countries including expert training and experience as it is the first time for it to run such markets.
Such being a fact, the U.S. is terming the DPRK a "rogue state", talking about its non-existent "terrorism," "drug trafficking", "abduction" and "counterfeiting of money". This can not be construed otherwise than a challenge to the just measures of the DPRK.
The U.S. is well advised to stop maligning the DPRK and mind its own business to improve its deplorable position as a rogue state engaged in all sorts of illegal acts such as terrorism and drug trafficking.

Mongolian diplomats help Korean farmers

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- Ambassador Janchivdorjyn Lombo and staff members of the Mongolian embassy here visited the Korea-Mongolia Friendship Jongbang Co-op Farm in Sariwon city, North Hwanghae Province on June 9. They helped the farmers in weeding a corn-field.
During a break, they conversed with farmers and sang songs, deepening the feelings of friendship.
The ambassador wished the farmers greater success in agricultural production on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK.

Japanese authorities' moves to check sail of ship "Mangyongbong-92" flailed

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a signed article slamming the vicious moves of the Japanese reactionaries for economic sanctions against the DPRK. When the United States fabricated the coordinating committee for export to communist area in 1949 and set out norms on asset control in 1950, the Japanese reactionaries enforced trade and financial embargo against the DPRK, acting upon them, the article says, and goes on:
Upset by the intensified campaign of the Japanese people demanding the improved DPRK-Japan relations, the Japanese government had no alternative but to allow the DPRK-Japan trade in April 1961.
The Japanese government did not lift the embargo on direct settlement, one of the important issues in direct trade. This direct settlement could be made only two years after the DPRK-Japan trade was approved.
The Japanese government did not allow the Japanese exporters engaged in the DPRK-Japan trade to use export bank loans. It did not lift the ban on DPRK traders and technicians' visits to Japan.
Japan has consistently applied high rate customs to export goods from the DPRK, part of its economic blockade against the DPRK.
While applying "preferential tariff" to other developing countries, Japan is not doing so to the DPRK but imposing the most unfavorable "state tariff" upon it.
Japan took the lead in the "collective sanctions" against the DPRK as a shock brigade executing the U.S. policy to isolate and stifle the DPRK in the 1990s. Worse still, it wooed international organizations to intensify economic blockade against the DPRK, peddling the "nuclear suspicion" of the DPRK among them.
Japan has gained nothing from its economic sanctions against the DPRK. This only heightened the Korean people's revolutionary awareness.

Japan urged to halt anti-DPRK, anti-Chongryon campaign

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- The Japanese authorities recently convened a "government meeting for measures" with high-ranking officials of six ministries and agencies such as the Ministry of National Land and Communications, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the police agency and the maritime safety agency attending. There they discussed provocative measures concerning the call of Mangyongbong-92 at a Japanese port such as strict inspection and impounding of the ship on the strength of all laws now in force. This unreasonable and reckless racket has created an extremely disturbing development. Mangyongbong-92 is now barred from entering a Japanese port and Koreans in Japan are prevented from visiting their homeland.
Rodong Sinmun today dismisses this tyrannical move as a serious infringement upon the dignity of the DPRK and a vicious political provocation and inhuman act against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and the Koreans in Japan.
    The news analyst continues:
Japan has so far stood for the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. But it made a u turn in its attitude toward the settlement of the nuclear issue after having talks with the U.S.
The Japanese authorities' recent step to prohibit Mangyongbong-92 from entering a port is a direct product of such attitude.
If this is part of "sanctions" against the DPRK we can not but regard it as very serious development.
The DPRK has already clarified that it would regard any "sanctions" as a declaration of war.
The Japanese authorities' move is a wanton violation of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration in which Japan committed itself to improve relations with the DPRK.
The Japanese authorities are well advised to behave with discretion, clearly understanding the Koreans' hostility toward Japan, rectify their anachronistic hostile policy toward the DPRK and Chongryon and immediately stop their political operation against Mangyongbong-92.

War criminal should be judged

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- French, Swedish, British and other western media said that the "legitimacy" of the Iraqi war has been called into question as the united states has not found out weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, which will drive the U.S. into a more difficult position. The U.S. provocation of the Iraqi war was not aimed to "destroy weapons of mass destruction". In fact, the U.S. has long watched for a chance to invade Iraq, covetous of its rich oil. Rodong Sinmun says this today in a signed commentary.
    The news analyst goes on:
The U.S. is addressing itself to a showdown with the DPRK, making much ado about its "nuclear and missile threat".
The U.S. is kicking up a nuclear row aimed to destroy the DPRK system as in Iraq.
As the Iraqi situation showed, arms inspection is followed by disarmament and war. We, therefore, are more firmly cementing the defence power of the country under the banner of Songun.
This is an exercise of the just self-defensive right to prevent a war in the Korean Peninsula and protect the sovereignty of the country and the destiny of the nation.
We are proud of having a powerful war deterrent force. With no intrigues can the U.S. cover up its war crimes. The U.S. should be brought before the international court as a war criminal.

New cucumber strain bred

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Institute of Vegetables in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has bred a new cucumber strain with native ones. It is highly resistant to diseases. According to researcher Kim Kyu Il, old strains retrograde after two or three years of cultivation on the same plot, but the new one is not restricted by years of cultivation.
It is easy to cultivate in greenhouses because it needs neither self-fertilization nor artificial fertilization.
    The well-shaped cucumber is tasty.

New national records in sports events

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- Since the beginning of the year, sportspersons of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have proved successful in national tournaments. Many players chalked up new national records in various events at the Paektusan Cup Sports Contest and the Mangyongdae Cup Sports Contest.
Shooters of the April 25 Defence Sports Group and the Amnokgang Defence Sports Group renewed 14 national records in men's 100-shot air pistol, women's air pistol, 60-shot air rifle and other events.
Weightlifters of the April 25 Sports Group, the Pyongyang Sports Group and the Amnokgang Sports Group set nine national records in men's five categories, and those of the Pyongyang Sports Group and the Kigwancha Sports Group four national records in women's three categories.
Student Pae Yong Il of Korean University of Physical Education broke the old record in the triple jump (indoor) at the Paektusan Cup Sports Contest.

Rodong Sinmun calls for struggle for national reunification

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- The June 10 anti-Japanese demonstration was an eruption of the Korean people's wrath and resentment at the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule and the anti-Japanese popular patriotic resistance for national sovereignty and independence, says Rodong Sinmun today in a by-lined article dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the demonstration. The article goes on:
Many years have passed since the demonstrators shed blood in the anti-Japanese patriotic resistance but their ardent desire for independence and sovereignty has not come true nationwide.
The Korean nation has yet to carry out the task to put an end to the foreign domination and interference and reunify the country as early as possible as desired by the demonstrators and thus establish national sovereignty throughout Korea.
The U.S. is the main foreign force standing in the way of the reunification of the country and infringing upon the sovereignty and the dignity of the Korean nation.
The U.S. is getting desperate in its reckless moves to ignite a nuclear war while persistently pursuing its hostile policy toward the DPRK to stifle it under the pretext of its nuclear issue.
Japan is also joining in the U.S. moves.
If the aggressor forces are allowed to go on with moves to stifle the DPRK and unleash a nuclear war, they may scuttle the cause of independent and peaceful reunification, long-cherished desire of the nation, and the Korean Peninsula will turn into shambles of a nuclear war ignited by foreign forces.
A nationwide anti-war and anti-U.S. struggle alone paves the way for the Korean nation to survive and achieve independent reunification. All fellow countrymen should get firmly united in the idea of "by our nation itself", a great preposition in the era of national independent reunification, to wage a more dynamic movement for national reconciliation, unity and independent reunification.

U.S. dangerous war moves under fire

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- The United States recently decided to deploy more ultra modern military hardware in South Korea, which proves that the U.S. is making it a fait accompli to make a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK and putting spurs to its preparations. Commenting on this Minju Joson today says:
While paying lip-service to "dialogue" and "peaceful settlement", the U.S. is actually blocking the settlement of the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula and aggravating the situation.
Under the dangerous situation in which the U.S. preemptive nuclear attack on us is drawing near to reality, we can never remain a passive on-looker to it. The sovereignty and dignity of the DPRK as well as its existence would be jeopardized unless the U.S. preemptive nuclear attack is resolutely countered. This is a serious lesson drawn from the recent Iraqi crisis.
Clear is what the DPRK should do to cope with the U.S. undisguised moves to mount a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK. We are compelled to do everything possible to counter the U.S. preemptive attack. We have determination, will and capability enough to do that.
If the U.S. misjudges our determination and strength and opts for mounting a preemptive nuclear attack, we will resolutely counter it by our own powerful means.
The DPRK is not such a country as the U.S. has so far dealt with. If the U.S. is finally to make stand-off with the DPRK, the DPRK will clearly teach the U.S. that a real war is not the same war game as it has played so far. The U.S. will meet only death and ruin in the end. The U.S. should act with discretion, clearly aware of its opponent.

Greetings to head of state of Libya

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, today sent a message of greetings to Col. Moammer El Gaddafi, leader of the Great September First Revolution, on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the withdrawal of the U.S. military bases from Libya. The message expressed the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would as ever grow stronger and develop and wished him greater success in his work to protect the national dignity and achieve the progress and prosperity of the country.

Kim Jong Il provides field guidance to newly arranged Jangsusan Recreation Ground

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the newly arranged Jangsusan Recreation Ground. He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam and Kim Yong Sun, secretaries of the WPK Central Committee, and Ri Yong Chol, Jang Song Thaek and Choe Chun Hwang, first vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee.
Mt. Jangsu called Hwanghae Kumgang is located in South Hwanghae Province in the west coastal area. This scenic spot is famous for the peculiar beauty of gorges, a rock of snapping-turtle shape, a pond and many other beauty spots.
He was briefed on the mountain resort before its guide map before covering the tour course of 12 turns to learn in detail about how it was built.
Seeing the roads, pavilions, service facilities and other structures built in a peculiar manner to match the natural scenery of Mt. Jangsu, he expressed great satisfaction at the appearance of another recreation ground for the people. He highly praised the people in Jaeryong county for having done something big without being known to others.
Commanding a bird's-eye-view of Mt. Jangsu, he said that there are many scenic spots everywhere in our country, the envy of the world people. Our people are highly proud of leading a worthy life to the full in the beautiful socialist country with brilliant culture and long history, he noted.
Only when one knows well about the national history, culture and beauty can one display patriotism, he said, stressing the need to intensify the education in patriotism through visits to scenic spots.
Noting that Mt. Chilbo and other famous mountains, which had long remained worthless, have been turned into pleasure grounds for the people in the era of the workers' party, he said that Mt. Jangsu, too, should be arranged in a peculiar manner so that more working people may tour it.
The tour should be minutely organized to receive an increasing number of visitors to the mountain, he said, specifying tasks and ways to do so.
