Central election committee organized

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Sunday published a decision on organizing the Central election committee for the election of deputies to the 11th-term SPA. According to the decision, the committee consists of Chairman Yang Hyong Sop, vice-Chairman Kim Jung Rin, Secretary-General Kim Yun Hyok and 10 members.

Japanese heavyweight's remarks under fire

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Measure Committee for Demanding Compensation to Comfort Women for the Japanese Army and the Victims of Forcible Drafting issued a statement on June 8, denouncing Taro Aso, chairman of the Policy Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, for his groundless remarks about the policy pursued by the Japanese imperialists during their military occupation of Korea under which they forced the Koreans to change their names into Japanese ones. He claimed that the policy was enforced because Koreans asked Japan to name them in Japanese, the Japanese taught Korean alphabets and it is Japan that enforced the compulsory educational system, the statement said, and went on: It is not a mere "mistake" coming from the lack of understanding of history or the lack of the gift of the gab that the murderers are styling themselves as "benefactors" in the presence of those who experienced and witnessed the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule.
However hard the Japanese reactionaries may embellish and beautify historical facts, they can never cover up their crime-woven history.
The "law on emergency" targeted at the DPRK was openly passed through the diet, military exercises simulating "emergency on the Korean Peninsula" are being launched and right-wing reactionaries' frantic war moves are overheated in Japan.
All the facts prove that conservative political figures of Japan are hell-bent on creating a favorable atmosphere in a bid to justify the history of blood-stained aggression, avoid the responsibility for their past crimes and realize their long-cherished ambition for reinvasion of Korea. Japan would be well advised to liquidate its criminal past and take the road of peace and stability of Asia, not the road of becoming military power, mindful of bitter lessons of the last century.
This is favorable for Japan itself and for it to get trust and reconciliation with Asian people.

U.S. demand for increased "defense budget" denounced in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration on June 3 reportedly issued a statement titled "the U.S. unreasonable demand for increased defense budget is a plain interference in other's internal affairs". Referring to the fact that the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense on a trip to South Korea forced the members of the "National Defense Committee of the National Assembly" on June 2 to increase "defense budget," the statement said:
It is the impudent nature of the U.S. imperialists to demand ten concessions if one time is allowed. Anti-U.S. struggle is the only way for us to live.
All the Koreans should turn out in the patriotic resistance against the U.S. and war and for peace in order to achieve independence and dignity of the nation and peace in this land.
All the patriotic forces who love the country and the nation should rise up to wage the all-people resistance for independence against the U.S. on June 13 when two schoolgirls were killed by GIs.
The solidarity bitterly denounces the U.S. unreasonable interference in the internal affairs and calls for resolute counteraction of the government authorities.
We will not lay down the banner of the anti-U.S. struggle before the U.S. domination and interference are completely terminated.

U.S. styling itself "only superpower" can never destroy DPRK

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- Daniel Dediu, Chairman of the Romanian Workers' Association, in a statement on June 2 said that the U.S. is arrogantly behaving as if it were the "master of the world" as evidenced by its armed invasion of Iraq despite the opposition of the international community but this "only superpower" can never destroy socialist Korea, according to the 89th issue of the newspaper Romania Muncitoare. The DPRK is quite different from Iraq, he said, adding: the Korean people have the Songun policy pursued by Kim Jong Il, the might of single-hearted unity and powerful military capability.
The U.S. can never overpower this might. The U.S. forces will be driven out of South Korea sooner or later.
The U.S. is well advised to mind its own business in its land.
The world is opposed to U.S. fascism.

New medicines for skin diseases developed

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- Doctors and scientists at the Dermatological Preventive Hospital under the Ministry of Public Health of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have developed medicines efficacious for skin diseases. Among them are hwangyol ointment and phagoji pills made of Koryo medicinal stuff including rhubarb and pisum sativum berry abundant in Korea.
Hwangyol ointment has a special virtue for boil, cellulites and folliculitis, and phagoji pills for such incurable diseases as leucoderma and psoriasis.
The efficacy of the medicines is more than 90 percent.
They have also developed taesangphojin ointment.
Its efficacy is over 97 percent in treating cingule and other viral skin diseases.

New frequency regulator developed

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- Technicians of the Central Youth Hall of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have made a new automatic frequency regulator. The regulator ensures 40 to 68 hertz of frequency irrespective of the incoming voltage and frequency.
It is controlled by the programme set up in microprocessor. It is used in electric and electronic machines such as film projector, motor, duplicator, computer printer, medical apparatuses, and electronic heater and cooler.
It makes the electronic goods operate in a normal state.
The small and light regulator is easy to operate.
It received a patent of the state in March Juche 92 (2003).
They also accept orders for different kinds of regulators ranging from 200 watts to 100 kilowatts.
The input and output voltage is 220 volts of single phase or three phases.

KCNA on DPRK's nuclear deterrent force

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- The Bush government is escalating its moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK. As already reported, the DPRK put forward a bold proposal for smoothly solving all issues at the DPRK-U.S. talks with a view to fundamentally settling the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
Since the DPRK put forward the proposal the world community has closely followed the U.S. attitude. Because the DPRK's proposal is a constructive offer conducive to settling the nuclear issue and guaranteeing peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
But the Bush administration is adamantly insisting on the multilateral talks while uttering extremely provocative words about "further steps" and "stronger measures."
Such attitude of the U.S. only more saliently reveals the sinister design of the bush administration to dramatize the DPRK's "nuclear threat" before the world community as much as possible and thus make it stand further isolated politically and diplomatically.
It is a universally known fact that the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is a product of the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK in every sense.
This issue surfaced on the Korean Peninsula because the successive U.S. regimes have pursued this hostile policy towards the DPRK and threatened it with nukes.
Therefore, the only way of settling it is for the united states chiefly responsible for the issue to seek a reasonable solution through bilateral talks with the DPRK.
The DPRK has already clarified its stand that the DPRK-U.S. talks should be held to be followed by the U.S.-proposed multilateral talks. The U.S. attitude of insisting only on the "multilateral talks" while avoiding the DPRK-U.S. bilateral talks despite the DPRK's magnanimous stand only indicates the will of the Bush administration not to drop its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
The DPRK has no intention to have a nuclear deterrent force without any reason, quite contrary to Washington's noisy propaganda.
The DPRK is willing to clear up the U.S. concern as regards the nuclear issue if it drops its hostile policy toward Pyongyang and addresses its concern.
But if the U.S. keeps threatening the DPRK with nukes instead of abandoning its hostile policy toward Pyongyang, the DPRK will have no option but to build up a nuclear deterrent force.
The DPRK's intention to build up a nuclear deterrent force is not aimed to threaten and blackmail others but reduce conventional weapons under a long-term plan and channel manpower resources and funds into economic construction and the betterment of people's living.
The DPRK will build up a powerful physical deterrent force capable of neutralizing any sophisticated and nuclear weapons with less spending unless the U.S. gives up its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
Now that the DPRK is no longer bound to the safeguards accord with the International Atomic Energy Agency after its withdrawal from the NPT the DPRK has the same legal status as the United States and other countries possessing nuclear weapons not bound to international law, as far as the issue of nuclear deterrent force is concerned.
The Bush administration should clearly know that it is good for its future for the United States to opt for completely dropping its hostile policy toward the DPRK instead of spreading the rumor about the "threat" of its nuclear deterrent force.

DPRK to react against U.S. arms buildup plan by its effective method

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- The U.S. announcement of a plan to beef up its forces in South Korea which calls for spending 11 billion U.S. dollars comes under strong fire by a signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun today. The DPRK will strongly react against this move by an effective method of its style, it warns. This step for arms buildup can be seen only on the eve of a war, the news analyst notes, and goes on:
Such move of the U.S. forces proves that the U.S. imperialists' plan for preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK, a scenario for the second Korean war, is entering the phase of its full-scale implementation.
After the Iraqi war the U.S. is stepping up the preparations for the second Korean war, regarding the DPRK as a new target of state terrorism and a main target of armed intervention.
The history records many instances of arms buildup and military exercises of aggressors leading to wars. This suggests that the U.S. moves to bolster its forces in South Korea may lead to the second Korean war. The U.S. imperialists have whetted swords of revenge to recover their defeat in the Korean war provoked by them in the 1950s and watched for a chance to attack the DPRK. They may mount a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK any time.
Such development compels the DPRK to take all possible countermeasures with a high degree of revolutionary vigilance.
The U.S. should know how the DPRK will retaliate against its preemptive nuclear attack.

Rodong Sinmun on anti-U.S. independence and reunification

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea put forward militant calls on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK, calling upon all the fellow countrymen to wage a vigorous struggle to force the U.S. forces out of South Korea under the uplifted banner of independence against the U.S. Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article says that the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops stationed in South Korea are chiefly responsible for the division of the nation and the root source of all misfortunes and disasters upon the Korean nation.
    The article goes on:
Korea has been divided into the north and the south since the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops occupied South Korea by force of arms after the liberation of the country. It has not yet been reunified because the U.S. troops remain stationed in South Korea.
The U.S. forces' presence in South Korea is a direct product of the U.S. Korea policy. The U.S. considers the Korean Peninsula as a springboard to establish domination over Asia and, furthermore, the world. This is why the U.S. imperialists seek to keep their military occupation of South Korea, viciously block the peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula and realize their domination over the whole of Korea. In particular, the U.S. troops are spreading a sophism of "threat from the north" in a bid to justify their military presence in South Korea and discharge their mission as scout feeler for aggression on the Korean Peninsula, rending the situation of the Korean Peninsula extremely tense.
All the facts clearly prove that the Korean nation can not establish sovereignty throughout the country nor achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country and unified development of the nation unless the U.S. military occupation of South Korea is terminated.
The article calls upon all the fellow countrymen to turn out in the struggle to force the u.s. troops out of South Korea for the dignity and honor of the nation and speed up independence against the U.S. and independent national reunification.

Kim sincerely wished the president great success in his responsible work for the prosperity of the country and expressed belief that the existing friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would grow stronger.

U.S. plan for arms buildup assailed

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean National Peace Committee issued a statement on June 9 in which he described the U.S. plan for arms buildup as an open declaration of war against the DPRK. The statement dismissed "peace on the Korean Peninsula and regional stability," a signboard put up by the U.S. while getting frantic in its moves for arms buildup, as a broad hoax to cover up its sinister design for aggression.
Saying that the DPRK's war deterrent force is a powerful means for protecting the peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and bringing shame and death to the aggressors, the statement continues:
Now that the U.S. is resorting to military means, the DPRK has no option but to build up its self-defensive war deterrent force to protect its dignity and basic interests no matter what others may say. The U.S. imperialists should drop the sinister aim long pursued by them as a colonial ruler and quit South Korea immediately.
The people from all walks of life in South Korea should resolutely turn out in a struggle for peace against the U.S. and war to check the U.S. imperialist aggressors' reckless moves for arms buildup and drive the U.S. forces out of South Korea.
The statement expresses the expectation that the anti-war and peace organizations and peace-loving people in different countries of the world will extend full support and encouragement to the Korean people in their just struggle to check the U.S. imperialists' moves to start a new war and achieve peace and peaceful reunification of the country.

Inter-Korean contact made

Kaesong, June 9 (KCNA) -- The 5th working-level contact for the reconnection of the north-south rail and road links was made in Kaesong from June 7 to 9. At the contact both sides had an exhaustive discussion on practical issues of energetically pushing forward the project of reconnecting the inter-Korean rail and road links to complete it at an early date in the basic spirit of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and adopted the following agreement:
The north and the south shall simultaneously hold joint ceremonies of reconnecting the inter-Korean rail links on June 14, Juche 92 (2003) at the places on the east and west coasts where the inter-Korean railways meet.
The north and the south shall positively cooperate with each other so that necessary sets of equipment, items of materials and their quantity may be delivered without causing any delay to the project in order to step up the project for reconnecting rail and road links on the east and west coasts.
The south side shall provide technical service for the installing of equipment and the normal operation of vehicles according to an agreement on the provision of equipment and materials for the project of reconnecting the rail and road links between mid-June and late July and the north side shall actively cooperate with it.
The delivery of equipment and materials for the project and visits of technical personnel shall be made through temporary roads on the east and west coasts.

The third panel meeting for reconnecting inter-Korean rail and road links shall be held in Munsan from July 2 to 4.
And 3 supplementary agreements on the project for reconnecting inter-Korean rail and road links including an agreement on ceremonies of reconnecting inter-Korean rail links and an agreement on technical service for equipment and vehicles for reconnecting inter-Korean rail and road links were adopted at the working-level contact.

Japan hit for blocking way of humanitarian visits

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- Recently the Japanese authorities laid all of a sudden artificial and deliberate obstacles in the way of the call of the ship "Mangyongbong-92" at Japanese port. The Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society in a statement on Monday denounced such unreasonable behavior as an extremely provocative and mean hostile act intended to hurt the dignity of the DPRK and quell spirit of humanitarianism and an anachronistic act of dampening the desire of the peoples of both countries to improve the DPRK-Japan relations according to the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.
Recalling that the ship has never done anything contrary to international law and the Japanese laws, the statement said:
Clamoring about humanitarianism, the Japanese authorities are contemplating a very dangerous strong measure to disallow the call of the humanitarian ship at Niigata port, a measure that can be taken only in case of emergency. Such measure is a quite inhumanitarian deed ununderstandable to everyone in every sense.
Humanitarianism can never be a target of repression or sanctions in any case nor be a political plaything.
Nobody can block free visits of Korean residents in Japan to their homeland by sea, a humanitarian work closely followed by the world.
Those going against humanitarianism will never escape the judgment of conscience of humankind and justice.
The Japanese authorities should rectify their illegal policy of supporting the U.S. anti-DPRK policy, in the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and the agreement signed between the Red Cross organizations of the two countries. They should promptly stop all sorts of provocative actions against the call of the ship "Mangyongbong-92" at Japanese port and allow free visits of students and other Korean residents in Japan who are now anxiously waiting for the ship to visit their homeland.
