Kim Jong Il visits farm and goat breeding station under KPA unit

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to a farm and goat breeding station under KPA unit 534 on June 4. The first leg of his inspection was the farm run by the unit.
Seeing fields under wheat, barley and potato, irrigation set-ups and various types of modern farm machines at work, he expressed great satisfaction with the first crops doing very well thanks to the tenacious efforts made by the farmers to implement the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on double cropping and highly estimated their achievements.
Looking round the tidy and clean thrashing ground, the house for the dissemination of agricultural science and technology, the youth school and other places, he again praised them for having built everything in a unique manner the way the army does.
After touring the farm, he set forth important tasks to be carried out to do two-crops-a year farming on a large-scale. The experience gained by farms in recent years convinces us that a successful solution of the problem of seeds would make it quiet possible to do two-crops-a year farming focussed on the cultivation of grain even under the climatic conditions of our country, he said, adding that what is most important is to research, develop and plant more high-yielding seeds that require a short period of cultivation.
He underscored the need to apply greater quantities of quality organic fertilizers with a view to steadily increasing the fertility of soil, thoroughly establish an irrigation system and take in advance measures to dry and store wheat, barley and potato sown as first crops.
His next destination was the new goat breeding station built by servicemen of the unit.
He acquainted himself in detail with the construction of the breeding farm and goat raising, looking round breeding goat and baby goat pens, milk processing room, laboratory and other places.
He extended appreciation to the builders of the breeding station for having designed it in a big way and built it so qualitatively that it might win the admiration of posterity.
At the goat houses and milk processing room, he learned in detail about the characteristic feature of breeding goats and milk processing and expressed satisfaction with employees' mass production of good quality milk products including cheese, butter and yogurt.
He specified tasks for managing and operating the breeding station, calling on it to raise a larger number of goats of good species suited to the climatic conditions of the country and positively contribute to the development of its stockbreeding.

May issue of information bulletin "Reunification" published

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The International United Confederation of Koreans (International Kothongryon) published the May issue of information bulletin "Reunification". The bulletin carries a photo of Kim Jong Il meeting with Ri In Mo, the incarnation of faith and will, and an article titled "Ten Years and 34 Years" he wrote on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his repatriation to the socialist homeland.
It also carries news that Kim Jong Il inspected units of the Korean People's Army.
Given in it are news of cooperation and exchanges between the north and the south of Korea and others and an article on Korean folk traditions and customs.
It carries an article titled "DPRK and U.S. : Confrontation Between Two Ideologies" authored by An Hyang San, director of the secretariat of the International Kothongryon.
It also edits articles introducing the art performances, repercussions and life of overseas Koreans who participated in the 21st April Spring Friendship Art Festival.

KPA Navy Day observed

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- June 5 is the day of the navy of the Korean People's Army (KPA). The DPRK observes June 5, Juche 35 (1946) as Navy Day. That day President Kim Il Sung gave an important instruction on organizing the marine security corps.
On this day the seamen of the KPA renew their strong determination to defend the seas of the country as firm as an iron wall.
Hero of the DPRK Kim Kun Ok said that it is the firm pledge of the one-beats-a hundred sailors to become human torpedoes and destroy ships of the U.S. imperialist aggressors, should they ignite a war on this land again.
The torpedo boat commanded by him sank a heavy cruiser of the U.S. imperialists Baltimore called a "moving island " in the waters off Jumunjin during the last Korean war (June 1950-July 1953).
Hero of the DPRK Pak In Ho, had this to say that no force on earth can match the KPA navy armed with the spirit of devotedly defending the leader and the spirit of becoming human bullets and bombs.
He is one of those who captured the U.S. imperialist armed spy ship "Pueblo" when it illegally intruded into the DPRK's territorial waters off the east coast in the 1960s.
Their words represent the firm pledge of the one-match-for-a hundred sailors of the KPA.
The navy of the KPA has been trained into a matchless naval force under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Today, our navy is demonstrating its might as an invincible force capable of carrying out any naval operations as it is fully equipped with both powerful offensive and defensive means.
All seamen are the death-defying corps transparent in the spirit of devotedly defending the leader and the self-blasting spirit.
Aggressors will certainly suffer a disgraceful defeat in face of the brave navy of the KPA if they dare intrude into the territorial waters of the DPRK.

Improved inter-Korean relations called for

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- All Koreans should unite as one to frustrate the moves of outsiders and anti-reunification forces, firmly preserve and implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration so as to put spurs to the movement for reunification and open up a new chapter of national reunification by their concerted efforts, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. The article goes on:
The Korean nation should convert the inter-Korean relations plagued with division and confrontation into those of national cooperation.
It is, therefore, necessary for both sides to become independent dialogue partners and discuss and solve all outstanding issues between the north and the south from an independent stand by the concerted efforts of the nation.
In order to turn the north-south relations into the ties of national cooperation it is necessary for the Korean nation to have the viewpoint and stand that the Korean nation is a community linked with the same destiny that can survive only when it gets united as it has the same blood, language, history and culture although it has lived separated for more than half a century due to the outsiders' pressure and obstructive moves.
The article underscores the need for the Korean nation to foil the outsiders' moves for aggression and war through national cooperation and not to allow the anti-reunification forces to seek cooperation with outsiders in order to improve the inter-Korean relations.
The north-south relations, the ties of national cooperation, should be steadily developed in depth on the basis of the great national unity, the article concludes.

U.S. imperialists' aggressive nature remains unchanged

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The aggressive nature of imperialism remains unchanged as long as its socio-economic foundation exists though its strength may gets weak. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article. It cites historical facts to prove that the whole course covered by U.S. imperialism has been recorded with bloody aggression and war as well as bestial murder and brigandish plunder.
Noting that the design of the U.S. imperialists to dominate the world through aggression and war remains unchanged in the 21st century, too, the article says: This is clearly evidenced by what the Bush regime has perpetrated in the new century.
It is the general goal of the Bush regime to stifle those countries which lack faith and are weak in defence capacity and anti-imperialist independent countries and force all the countries of the world to "recognize" and follow the U.S. as the only superpower with its strategy of "anti-terrorism war" and thus build a unipolar world, the article says, and goes on:
The aggressive nature of the U.S. imperialists at present finds a most vivid expression on the Korean Peninsula. That is why the Bush ruling group is pushing the DPRK-U.S. belligerent relations to an explosive phase.
The U.S. imperialists are keen to start the second Korean war in a bid to stem the trend of the present century towards peace and detente and build a unipolar world at any cost.
The world peace and security can not be guaranteed as long as the U.S. imperialists stay and they continue clinging to their strategy of aggression and war to dominate the world.

KCNA refutes Japanese heavyweight's preposterous remarks

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The chairman of the Policy Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan at a lecture on the understanding of history held on May 31 reportedly let loose preposterous remarks over the policy pursued by Japan during its military occupation of Korea under which it forced the Koreans to change their names into Japanese ones. He claimed that the policy was enforced because Koreans asked Japan to name them in Japanese, adding that Japanese taught Korean alphabets, it is Japan that enforced the compulsory educational system and it would be better to have a correct understanding of history.
These are an intolerable mockery of the Korean nation as they laid bare Japan's impudence of flatly denying its past crimes committed against the Koreans. The policy of changing the Korean names into Japanese ones was part of Japan's colonial policy to exterminate the Korean nation and assimilate its members to Japanese and thus convert Koreans into Japanese subjects. The 1939 Japan worked out and promulgated a law on disallowing the Koreans to go by their peculiar Korean names and changing them into Japanese ones and carried it out at the point of bayonet. Japan forcibly took Koreans to "consultation offices for changing names " and did not allow the children whose parents did not change their names to enter schools at all levels or continue their studies a higher level and get jobs but drafted them for compulsory labor of various forms, labour conscription and the "patriotic corps" before any others was this what Koreans actually requested? The Koreans which value national identity more than any other nation still remember very well the bitter disgrace and insult they had suffered when they were deprived of their names given by their parents and forced to go by Japanese ones. His outbursts are bitterly censured and denounced by the unbiased public opinion as they laid bare Japan's intention to justify the criminal past of Japan at any cost and realize its old dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere"

Japanese authorities urged to rectify hostile policy toward DPRK and Chongryon

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- Jo Ryong Hyon, vice-Chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan(Chongryon), issued a statement on June 2 denouncing Taro Aso, Chairman of the Policy Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, for making remarks seriously infringing upon the dignity of the Korean nation. Recalling that Taro Aso, referring to the policy pursued by the Japanese imperialists to force Koreans to change their names into Japanese ones at a lecture, claimed that Japan enforced the policy because the Koreans asked it to give them Japanese names, the statement dismissed this as anachronistic remarks intended to seriously tamper with the history of the Japanese imperialist aggression of Korea and justify it.
The utterances made by Aso to embellish the Japanese imperialists' military occupation of Korea in the past with such a preposterous view on the history have touched off the Koreans' surprise and towering grudge, the statement said, and continued:
The policy on forcing Koreans to change their names into Japanese ones enforced by the Japanese imperialists after their occupation of Korea was a policy to exterminate the Korean nation, something unprecedented in the world history in the 20th century as it was aimed to deprive the Koreans of their peculiar names that carried the soul of the nation.
The Japanese imperialists enforced this policy, claiming that Koreans were "Imperial Subjects" and "Japan and Korea were One Community". Not content with plundering Korea of all its material resources, the Japanese imperialists drafted millions of young and middle-aged Koreans for a war of aggression through "conscription" and as "student soldiers" and reduced them to the cannon fodder. These are irrefutable stark historical facts.
It was against this background that the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration signed by Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi during his DPRK visit in September 2002 says that "the Japanese side admitted, in a spirit of humility, the facts of history that Japan caused tremendous damage and sufferings to the Korean people through its colonial rule in the past, and expressed deep remorse and heartfelt apology." Aso's recent remarks can not be construed otherwise than a brazen-faced distortion of irrefutable historical facts and an intolerable challenge to all Koreans.
The statement vehemently denounced Aso's recent anachronistic remarks with towering indignation of all the Koreans in Japan.
    It said:
Aso should immediately withdraw his reckless remarks and sincerely apologize to the Korean nation for them.
We take this opportunity to strongly demand the Japanese authority ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by such remarks despising the Korean nation and tampering with the history and immediately rectify its hostile policy toward the DPRK and Chongryon.

World Environment Day observed

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang-based newspapers today observe the World Environment Day. An environmental protection drive has made successful progress in the DPRK, Rodong Sinmun says, and goes on:
The Kaechon-lake Thaesong Waterway Project was finished and many power stations and fishing grounds were built to make an effective use of water resources, while a solid legal foundation has been laid to protect water resources.
Various activities and events are being conducted in the DPRK to mark the World Environment Day.
The DPRK will step up the drive for environmental protection, an important task common to humankind, and strengthen international cooperation in this field.
Minju Joson says: In the DPRK the law on water resources, the law on barrages, the law on prevention of sea pollution and the law on streams have already been instituted and effectuated to ensure the protection and use of water resources by law.

Power station projects make headway

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The construction of the Uijin Power Station is under way on the River Jangja that skirts along Kanggye city in Jagang Province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The power station will make it possible to provide the city with the electric heating service.
The builders have already undertaken about 200,000 cubic meters of concrete tamping and removed over 1,200,000 cubic meters of earth for several structures and buildings such as generator room and the retaining wall for sluiceway. They have done more than 70 percent of the project in a matter of one year.
Besides, the construction of large-size power stations including Nyongwon, Orangchon No. 1, Ryesonggang and Thaechon No. 4 are in full swing in South Phyongan, North Hamgyong and North Hwanghae provinces and other parts of the country.
Scores of minor power stations including Nampha, Taehongdan nos. 1 and 2, Yonthan no. 1 are being built in Jagang, Ryanggang and North Hwanghae provinces.

New gingkobonin-extracting method developed

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- Scientists of the Academy of Koryo Medicine of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have succeeded in developing a new gingkobonin-extracting method. According to Dr. Kim Jong Gil, the method is completely different from those of other countries.
It makes it possible to reduce production costs of extract and cause no air pollution during production.
The quality of the extract surpasses the world standard (24.0 percent of flavonglycoside and 6.0 percent of terpenractone).
The medicines, tea, syrup, liquor and others made of this extract are efficacious for arteriosclerosis, hyperlipemia, myocardial infraction, stenocardia, senility, alzherimer's disease, cerebral thrombosis, arthritis, etc.

DPRK's efforts for better water environment

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- June 5 is the World Environment Day. Efforts for protecting environment has been made in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea amid deep concern of the government and all people since the Law on the Protection of Environment was adopted at the 5th session of the 7th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK in April Juche 75 (1986). Today the people's government bodies at all levels are carrying on this work with redoubled efforts, attaching importance to it.
Jo Yong Nam, director of the environment protection bureau of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, told KCNA:
Various activities and functions are being held on a nationwide scale in accordance with the subject for this year "water--two billion people are dying for it" presented by the un environment programme.
In the past the government directed primary attention to the prevention and control of water pollution.
But it is now deeply concerned for the protection of water environment from a future-oriented point of view. We plan to draw up a water environment program and establish a management system for the future of the Korean nation by correctly judging the amount of water resources and supply capacity. It will be a very difficult work but it can surely be done on the basis of our experience and strong will. We have taken measures to reexamine the environmental protection program, management and utilization of the water of the River Taedong and improve them.
The director expressed thanks to international organizations including the UN Environment Programme, World Environment Facility and UNDP for their assistance to the DPRK for environment protection.

KCNA memorandum discloses Japan's moves for overseas expansion

Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- The Korean Central News Agency issued a memorandum today denouncing Japan's moves for overseas expansion as it is emerging as one of the two most dangerous war forces in the world and keen on repeating its past aggression to establish an unchallenged domination over Asia. The four-part memorandum says:
The Japanese reactionaries have paid primary attention to finally rounding off the legal preparations for full-scale overseas expansion while putting spurs to establishing a war-time system as an escalation of Japan's legal activities conducted over the past decade to step up rearmament and the "self-defence forces'" expansion overseas.
On May 15 the House of Representatives of Japan passed three bills on emergency, bills bellicose in their nature and contents.
They were a "bill to cope with an armed attack," "a draft amendment to the law of 'self-defence forces'", and "a draft amendment to the law on setting up a security council."
They call for legalizing the SDFs' participation in a war of overseas aggression in case of "emergency" and mobilizing civilians for a war.
The carriage of those bills at the diet made it possible for the Japanese reactionaries to set the SDF in motion and fully mobilize human and material potentials in the country any time under such indirect pretext as "danger of an armed attack" just as they did during the second world war and carry out military intervention and a war of aggression against any country.
A strong ideological and political foundation is in the making in Japan to repeat its past aggression.
On January 14 this year Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi visited the "Yasukuni Shrine" and on April 22 182 Japanese politicians including 74 dietmen followed suit.
The shrine is symbolic of Japanese militarism and showcases the Japanese imperialists' history of aggression.
For this reason in the past Japanese officials paid secret visits to it in the private capacity or unofficially. But recent years witnessed official visits of groups of politicians to the shrine, heedless to the public opinion.
The "people's council for defending Japan," the "fellowship society in the native land", the "political federation, house of growth" and hundreds of other ultra-right reactionary organizations of various types in Japan are widely disseminating the idea of militarism and embellishing their dark past by tampering with the history textbooks at the tacit connivance of the authorities.
Japan comes second next to the U.S. in military spending as it has pushed forward in real earnest its moves to emerge a military giant and realize nuclear weaponization.
It is said that Japan would spend 25.16 trillion yen as military spending for the 2001-2005 mid-term arms buildup plan. The ground "self-defence force" was founded with small strength in 1954 under the name of "defence". But it has already grown to be a huge force capable of carrying out an actual war as it has more than ten divisions, over 1,080 tanks, more than 980 armored cars, over 1,850 mortars and at least 3,230 recoiless guns and other powerful war means.
The maritime "self-defence force," in particular, has more than 45,800 troops and more than 160 modern warships including aegis ships, submarines and large transport ships.
The air "self-defence force" possesses over 510 operational planes including 213 f-15 fighters. The modern three services of the SDF indicate that the Japanese forces have been converted into perfect regular forces for overseas aggression, a complete switchover from its former policy of exclusive self-defence.
Japan has stockpiled 38 tons of plutonium and it is said that it would possess 110 tons of that substance by 2020. It is Japan's aim to stockpile 400 tons of plutonium in the future enough to produce 60,000 nuclear weapons.
In August 2001 Japan launched large carrier rocket h-2a no. 1 and on February 4 last year it put H-2A no. 2 into space. These rockets are called "perfect prototype rockets" as they can be converted into inter-continental ballistic missiles any time necessary.
On March 28 this year Japan sent two spy satellites into space for the first time in its history by using a large carrier rocket H-2A. It plans to launch two more spy satellites this summer and possess 8 spy satellites altogether by 2009.
Japan's nuclear weaponization is practically close to completion as it is capable of manufacturing thousands of nuclear bombs in a few months, perfected their carriage means and is equipped with independent spy and guide systems.
Japan has dispatched its troops overseas by actively joining un "peace-keeping forces" on the strength of the law on overseas troop dispatch.
Over the last decade from 1992 to 2002 Japan has dispatched a total of 3,987 SDF troops to different parts of the world on 15 occasions. As of December 2002 after the "September 11 incident," in particular, the Japanese maritime SDF sent a total of 20 warships and at least 4,200 crewmen to the Indian ocean to support the U.S. under a "special measure law on combating terrorism."
Since the 1980s Japan has sent warships of the SDF to the U.S.-led RIMPAC joint military exercises 12 times.
The SDF's participation in those exercises gained in scope every year. The RIMPAC 2002 naval exercises that started on June 25 last year involved about 1,120 troops, five warships and eight anti-submarine patrol planes and other powerful combat means. even missiles were test-fired there.
The DPRK is the principal target of Japan's overseas aggression.
It is the view of the Japanese reactionaries that they can never realise their ambition for continental aggression unless they put the DPRK, the gateway to the Asian continent, under their control. But the DPRK stands imposingly as a bulwark of socialism.
It is for this reason that Japan has escalated as never before its moves to stifle the DPRK, raising a hue and cry over "nuclear issue," "missile issue" and "issue of abduction."
The Japanese government made a switchover in the deployment of forces from its former strategy focusing on the northern region, the strategy targeted against the former Soviet Union, to the strategy focusing on western Japan. The elite units of the SDF have thus been massively deployed in western Japan facing Korea and their target is the DPRK.
The U.S. and Japan have already worked out a "mutual cooperation plan" under the "Japan-U.S. defence cooperation guidelines."
The "mutual cooperation plan" is a war scenario for the reinvasion of Korea as it specifies the joint military actions to be taken by the U.S. forces and the SDF in case of "emergency in the areas surrounding Japan."
These are in gross violation of the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration in which both sides committed themselves to refrain from doing any act of threatening the other. All the facts go to clearly prove that Japan still considers the DPRK to be an enemy and is watching for every chance to stage a comeback to Korea, far from redeeming its past.
The Korean people fell victim to the Japanese imperialists' aggression in the past and they have now become the primary target of Japan's attack. Therefore, they are now fully ready to foil Japan's ambition for reinvasion in a do-or-die spirit.
If Japan infringes upon even an inch of our inviolable territory, the people and the People's Army of the DPRK will never miss the chance but mercilessly retaliate against the aggressors a thousand times so as to vent their pent-up wrath and defend peace and security in Asia and the rest of the world.
