U.S. anti-DPRK international pressure campaign assailed

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK gave today the following answer to the question raised by KCNA as regards the atmosphere of international pressure created by the United States over the DPRK's peaceful nuclear activity: The DPRK is now putting the operation of its nuclear facilities for the production of electricity on a normal footing after their restart. The U.S. is now describing this as "one more act of threatening and blackmailing the international community."
Timed to coincide with this, some forces of the IAEA, at the instigation of the U.S., will reportedly hold a meeting of its board of governors on Feb. 12 to discuss the issue of referring the issue of the DPRK to the UN Security Council.
The DPRK Government has already solemnly declared that its nuclear activity would be limited to the peaceful purposes including the production of electricity at the present stage.
However, the U.S. is trying hard to paint the DPRK's nuclear activity as one of different nature, prompted by a sinister political intention to invent a pretext for bringing its issue to the UN and internationalize it.
The DPRK does not care about whether the UN Security Council discusses the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula or not. But if it wants to handle this issue, it should fairly call into question the responsibility of the U.S. which is chiefly to blame for the outbreak of this issue and for the strained situation.
The U.S. dared to slander the dignified members of the UN as members of an "axis of evil" and "lawless regimes." it, therefore, cannot shirk its responsibility for having wantonly violated the principle and spirit of the UN Charter.
Moreover, the U.S. can never flee from the blame for having grossly breached the fundamental principle of the NPT which bans nuclear threat to the non-nuclear states by listing signatories to the treaty which are non-nuclear countries as targets of its preemptive nuclear attacks.
It is also necessary to call the U.S. to task for unilaterally refusing to implement the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework and the DPRK-U.S. joint statement and ditching them in the long-run, thus posing a grave threat to the peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of the world.
The IAEA is not in a position to say anything about the issue of the DPRK which is no longer its member and has already quit the NPT.
The U.S. is persistently trying to use the IAEA again to bring up the issue of the DPRK for discussion at the un despite the fact that the DPRK Government officially notified the UN Security Council of its withdrawal from the treaty.
This only proves that there is no justification to internationalize the issue and the IAEA has been completely reduced to a political tool of the U.S., bereft of the principle of impartiality.
If the UN Security Council responsible for the issue of world peace and security does not call the U.S. wrong Korean policy to task, this organization will turn out to be partial and the DPRK will, accordingly, not recognize it.

U.S. begins bolstering its forces in Korean Peninsula

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists have begun bolstering the huge aggression forces in the Korean Peninsula under the pretext of the nuclear issue, according to KBS and CBS of South Korea. The U.S. Department of Defense is examining a plan to send another aircraft carrier to the waters off the Korean Peninsula as a "show of force." The U.S. imperialists have long had a carrier forward deployed in the pacific region, at a Japanese port, but because of the possibility the carrier, kitty hawk, could be ordered to the Persian Gulf, officials are considering sending another to the Korean region.
Timed to coincide with U.S. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld's disclosure of the fact that pentagon is also considering adding more air force presence on the Korean Peninsula, the U.S. ordered "B-52", "B-1" and two dozens of long-range bombers to get ready for deployment on Guam island for the purpose of supporting its forces in South Korea. For this deployment, about 2,000 troops, mostly air force personnel, were ordered to be ready to move. Several fighter bombers and "U-2" reconnaissance aircraft could be added to U.S. Forces in South Korea and Japan, press reports said.
Meanwhile, the U.S. also ordered thousands of soldiers in South Korea to extend their stay even after the expiry of their service term there.
All these facts go to prove that the war hysteria of the U.S. imperialists keen to isolate and stifle the DPRK under the pretext of the nuclear issue has reached a more reckless phase.

U.S.-proposed "multilateral" talks blasted

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed commentary accuses bush and high-ranking officials of the U.S. administration of asserting that the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula should be settled not through the DPRK-U.S. talks but through "multilateral talks". This assertion is quite wrong as it is neither reasonable nor realistic, the commentary says, and goes on:
The nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is a bilateral issue to be settled between the DPRK and the United States from the view-points of its origin, the circumstances of its outbreak, its nature and the truth of the present crisis.
It was not the international community but the United States that brought up the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. A sinister intention is lurking behind the call made by the U.S. for the "multilateral talks," turning aside the proposal for direct talks between the DPRK and the U.S.
The United States is keen to evade its responsibility for the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and create an atmosphere of international pressure on the DPRK at any cost. The U.S.-proposed "multilateral talks" are meant to serve this purpose.
The DPRK has never thought of other form of talks than the DPRK-U.S. direct talks to seek a solution to the nuclear issue and will never participate in such talks.
The U.S. should bear in mind that its persistent efforts to stymie the solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula with such a wrong assertion would only make the situation more complicated and bring about unpredictable consequences.

U.S. imperialists' ambition to dominate Korea under fire

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists should drop their moves to stifle the DPRK by force of arms, mindful that their bid is a daydream that can not be realized any time, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. It goes on:
It is by the U.S. that the DPRK was compelled to withdraw from the NPT.
Since the emergence of the Bush administration, the U.S. imperialists have been more frenzied in the moves to stifle the DPRK. They designated it as part of an "axis of evil" and a target of preemptive nuclear attacks. Recently they clamoured for "tailored containment" and "military sanctions" upon the DPRK under the pretext of the "nuclear issue."
But it is a big miscalculation to think that the DPRK may be frightened by some military threat or pressure, "blockade" or "sanctions."
The U.S. imperialists should not run amuck, mindful of who is their opponent.
The DPRK Government's decision to withdraw from the NPT is revelation of the firm faith and will of its army and people to smash the U.S. imperialists' anti-DPRK campaign with the toughest stance and safeguard the sovereignty and security of the country.
We have invincible might enough to defeat any formidable enemy who encroaches upon our sovereignty and security.

GNP of S. Korea warned not to go reckless

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The editorial board of the Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation in a written warning sent to the Grand National Party (GNP) on Jan. 27 strongly warned it not to run amuck for pro-U.S. treachery and confrontation with the north, going against the trend of the times and the people's will but disband itself, though belatedly, and stand on the side of the nation and the people. When the north took the resolute self-defensive measure of quitting the NPT in order to counter the U.S. reckless nuclear provocation, the GNP group made such reckless remarks going against the people's will and siding with outside forces, describing the measure as "a gamble threatening the existence of the nation" and crying out for "strongly countering it with effective South Korea-U.S. cooperation."
Accusing the GNP group of working hard to bring a nuclear holocaust to the nation in pursuance of the policy of foreign forces in a bid to prolong its remaining days, oblivious of the lesson of history, the editorial board dismissed the moves as unpardonable.
Now that the South Korean people aspire after a new independent policy, disillusioned with the policy of toeing the line of outside forces, there is no future for the GNP, a center of old political forces, it added.

Celebrations in Mongolia

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- A special joint meeting of standing committee members of the Mongol-Korean Friendship Society and the Mongolia Paektusan Society made public a special information bulletin on Jan. 27. The information bulletin said the meeting set months of greeting the sun of the 21st century in Mongolia from February to April this year, during which different political and cultural events will be organised. It announced the chairman, vice-chairmen, general secretary and members of the organizing committee.
A preparatory committee for celebrating the 55th anniversary of the DPRK and the 50th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War was organized by members of the organizing committee, the information bulletin said, and pointed out:
The organizing and preparatory committees will widely introduce the immortal exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il on behalf of the Korean and the world revolution on the occasion of February Holiday, the Day of the Sun and other significant holidays of Korea.
They will make clear the true nature of the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula spawned by the U.S. and express solidarity with the korean people in their struggle to defend the sovereignty and dignity of the country.

DPRK withdrawal from NPT hailed

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea in an emergency statement on Jan. 21 said that the U.S. moves to stifle the DPRK for no reason failed because it took a resolute countermeasure. DPRK's proposal to conclude a non-aggression treaty with the U.S. is, indeed, the most important issue in ensuring peace and security in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia at present, the statement said. The committee supports the proposal and hopes that it would be realized at an early date.
According to the Jan. 20 issue of the Indonesian newspaper Merdeka, the chairman of the Indonesia-Korea Association for Friendship and Cultural Exchange in a statement said that the DPRK's withdrawal from the NPT is a timely and bold measure.
    He noted:
The DPRK, guided by Kim Jong Il, firmly stands against the U.S. moves to stifle it. everything goes well there under his leadership.

New paints, antiseptic developed

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Korean scientists have succeeded in developing new kinds of paints and antiseptic. The paint, made of pine resin, is low in production cost and good in luster. One or two times are enough to complete the painting, so the paint makes it possible to treble the labor efficiency as compared with other kinds of paints.
Another kind of paint is applied to not only rustless but rusty and already painted iron structures.
The antiseptic preserves wood from decay and decoloration. It is not washed away in water.
It can be used for electric poles, rail ties, etc.

Rodong Sinmun on correlation between national defence industry and heavy industry

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea set it as an important requirement of socialist economic construction in the era of the army-based policy to develop national defence industry on the preferential basis, while developing light industry and agriculture simultaneously, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. It goes on:
The national defence industry develops on the basis of developed heavy industry and it itself brings about the development of heavy industry. In a true sense, national defence industry is said to represent heavy industry and vice versa.
A revolutionary party and people should have a firm viewpoint that heavy industry precisely means national defence industry and place it above anything else in the socialist economic construction.
This is more pertinent to the reality of our country in which national defence industry holds an important part of the economy.
The DPRK's economic structure is based on its own heavy industry and military industry makes up the important part of it, which is the characteristics and advantage of the local economy which has embodied the independent line of the WPK.
It is thanks to the WPK's consistent line of building self-supporting national economy that the Korean-style economic foundations with the heavy industry as fundamentals have been laid and it is thanks to its self-defensive military line that a firm national defence industry base has been built up.
Thanks to the solid foundations of the self-supporting national economy with powerful national defence industry as its hardcore we could defend socialism in the decisive battle with the imperialist allied forces in the 1990s and work a historical miracle of laying a springboard for building a powerful nation.
National defence industry is the root of the local economy and a lifeline for defending socialism and building a powerful nation.

Minister of People's Armed Forces meets new Indonesian Ambassador

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Vice marshal of the Korean People's Army Kim Il Chol, Minister of the People's Armed Forces, met and had a conversation with new Indonesian Ambassador to the DPRK Hendrati Sukendar Munthe who paid a courtesy call on him today. On hand were KPA generals and officers and staff members of the Indonesian embassy here.

Mt. Kumgang, February 5 (KCNA) -- An experimental excursion for overland tour of Mt. Kumgang was made on Wednesday after the completion of the temporary road on the east coast of Korea as part of the project to reconnect rail and road links on the east coast between the north and the south of Korea. President Jong Mong Hon and managing director Kim Yun Gyu of the Hyundai Asan, who are in charge of Mt. Kumgang Tourism and the construction of the Kaesong Industrial Zone, made the first experimental excursion together with over 80 persons concerned of the south side. The buses carrying them entered the area of the north side at 14:30 passing through the demilitarized zone of the military demarcation line by using the temporary road between Songhyon-ri, Kosong county of South Korean Kangwon Province, and Unjong-ri, Kosong county of the north side. This is the first event in the history of the national division.
The excursionists were greeted by Ri Jong Hyok, vice-chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, and other officials concerned with compatriotic feelings.
