U.S. hit for false information

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- U.S. Under Secretary of State John Bolton in a press interview during his recent tour of Japan claimed that the DPRK put into operation nuclear facilities to develop nuclear arms and not to generate electricity. He also asked why the DPRK withdrew from the NPT, adding that North Korea has worked in secrecy to become a nuclear weapon state for the last five years. His remarks are designed to realize international cooperation to isolate and stifle the DPRK under the pretext of "worldwide threat" from the DPRK's nuclear weapons development, says Rodong Sinmun today. The news analyst says:
    It was owing to the efforts of the U.S. and the IAEA to isolate and stifle the DPRK that the DPRK made an important decision to withdraw from the NPT.
    The DPRK's withdrawal from the NPT has nothing to do with the U.S. loudmouthed nuclear weapons development.
    The U.S., the biggest possessor of nuclear weapons in the world, is keen on the development of nuclear weapons of new type. It is the height of impudence for the U.S. to describe the DPRK's nuclear activities for peaceful purposes as the development of nuclear arms and talk about "worldwide threat."
    Any international campaign to isolate and stifle the DPRK can not change the just stand of the DPRK at all and the U.S. will never flee from the responsibility for the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. The U.S. should realize this.
    As long as the U.S. resorts to a cynical ploy, turning back on the DPRK's demand for direct and equal negotiations and conclusion of a non-aggression treaty, the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula can not be settled any time. It will only deteriorate the crisis.
    The U.S. should not work to realize a pie-in-the-sky dream, but have a correct understanding of the essence of the issue and the truth behind the present crisis and accede to the DPRK's demand.

Kim Jong Il's birthday to be marked in Russia

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A preparatory committee of Russian public circles was inaugurated on Jan. 27 to celebrate the birthday of Kim Jong Il. Vladimir Tolstikov, chairman of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK and chairman of the Eastern European Center for the Support and Solidarity to the DPRK, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee and Vitaly Popov, first vice-chairman of the association, its vice-chairman.
    The committee made public an inaugural statement.
    The statement said that the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK, the Russian Association for Solidarity and Cooperation among Afro-Asian Peoples, the Peace Fund's International Association, the pilots group of the Union of Soviet Heroes and Heroines and other social organizations of Russia extend solidarity to the heroic Korean people in their devoted efforts for socialist construction and national reunification and express heartfelt respect to Kim Jong Il, the great leader of the Korean people.
    The preparatory committee will hold colorful functions, including celebration meeting, film show and photo exhibition, on the occasion of his birthday, it noted.

DPRK's self-defensive measure supported

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Government's statement was fully supported in Britain and Romania. The British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea, the British Association for Friendship with Korea and the British Branch of the Internet Association for Friendship with Korea released a joint statement on Jan. 16. bitterly condemning the U.S. and its followers for their hostile policy toward the DPRK, it said that the DPRK's withdrawal from the NPT is a just self-defensive measure taken to defend its interests.
    It is none other than the U.S. imperialists who befooled the NPT and spawned the nuclear issue, the statement said, urging them to stop intervention in the DPRK's internal affairs and the moves to stifle it.
    Meanwhile, the Romanian April 15 Group for the Study of the Juche Idea in a statement on Jan. 24 expressed full support for the decisions made by the DPRK led by Kim Jong Il and accused the U.S. of wantonly violating the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework.
    Noting that Korea has been divided into two for over half a century by the U.S. imperialists, the statement urged the U.S. to immediately withdraw its forces from South Korea.

U.S. hostile policy toward DPRK flailed

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- The Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization issued a statement on Jan. 22 denouncing the U.S. hostile policy to stifle the DPRK. A grave situation is prevailing on the Korean Peninsula due to the Bush administration's violation of the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework, the statement said, adding:
    Attack on the DPRK, an independent sovereign state, will further worsen the situation in Northeast Asia. We strongly oppose the U.S. plan for preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK, which is contrary to the UN Charter.
    The obtaining situation on the Korean Peninsula can be settled only through dialogue and negotiations between parties concerned.

Greetings to Sri Lankan President

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, today sent a message of greetings to President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of its independence. The message extended warm congratulations to the president and, through her, to the government and the people of Sri Lanka and sincerely wished her greater success in her work for the stability and prosperity of the country.
    It expressed belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would further grow stronger in the interests of the two peoples.

"rodong sinmun" refuta peroracion de bolton

     pyongyang, 3 de febrero (atcc) -- hace poco, bolton, secretario adjunto del departamento de estado norteamericano, en una rueda de prensa sostenida durante su visita a japon dijo que el proposito de la republica popular democratica de corea de poner en funcionamiento las instalaciones nucleares congeladas no es para la produccion electrica sino para el desarrollo de las armas nucleares y agrego: "si no, ?por que ella se retiro del tratado de no proliferacion nuclear (tnpn)?" y durante los ultimos 5 anos hizo esfuerzos secretos por obtener la posicion del pais poseedor de las armas nucleares". hizo tal disparate para establecer el sistema cooperativo internacional de aislamiento y aplastamiento a la rpdc so pretexto de la "amenaza internacional" por "el desarrollo de las armas nucleares" de la rpdc.
    asi senala el diario "rodong sinmun", en un comentario individual de hoy, y continua:
    la importante decision de la rpdc de retirarse del tnpn se debe enteramente a las maquinaciones de aislamiento y aplastamiento de ee.uu. y la organizacion internacional de energia atomica (oiea) contra la rpdc.
    la retirada de la rpdc del tnpn no tiene nada que ver con el desarrollo de las "armas nucleares" de que habla ee.uu..
    ee.uu. poseedor del mayor numero de las armas nucleares en el mundo hace esfuerzos desesperados por desarrollar las armas nucleares de nuevo tipo.
    aun asi habla de la "amenaza internacional" tergiversando absurdamente las actividades nucleares pacificas de la rpdc como el "desarrollo de las armas nucleares".
    ee.uu. debe darse clara cuenta de que con tal ofensiva internacional de aislamiento no puede quebrantar la justa posicion de la rpdc ni liberarse jamas de su responsabilidad del problema nuclear de la peninsula coreana.
    mientras que recurre a tal artimana ee.uu. dando espaldas a la demanda de la rpdc de hacer negociaciones directas en la posicion igualitaria y concertar un tratado de no agresion, no podra eliminarse jamas la crisis nuclear de la peninsula coreana sino se tornara mas grave la situacion.
    ee.uu. no debe hacer esfuerzos vanos sino que dandose clara cuenta de la esencia del problema y la actual situacion, debe acceder a la demanda de la rpdc.
