Photo exhibition on GIs' murder of schoolgirls opens

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- A photo exhibition showing the U.S. imperialists' killing of South Korean schoolgirls was opened at the central youth hall here on Jan. 29. On display are photos showing the struggle of the South Korean people and students to condemn the U.S. imperialist aggression troops for driving an armored car over South Korean schoolgirls Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son to death, punish the criminals and drive the U.S. troops out of South Korea.
Exhibited are photos showing the U.S. military court announcing the results of deceptive investigation and giving a verdict of not guilty to the criminals and the bereaved families getting angry at it.
Other photos show candle-light demonstrations, hunger strikes, protest visits and other forms of anti-U.S. struggle of the South Korean people of all strata demanding punishment of the U.S. criminals, an open apology of Bush, total revision of the unequal South Korea-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement and withdrawal of the U.S. troops.
An opening ceremony of the photo exhibition was attended by presidium members of the north headquarters of the national alliance of youth and students for the country's reunification, members of its central committee, officials of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, youth and students in Pyongyang.
Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the central committee of the youth league, made an opening address.

KCNA assails U.S. secret military exercise

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- A special operation group, a paramilitary organization under the CIA, conducted a secret exercise targeted against nuclear facilities and nuclear weapons in the DPRK, according to a recent issue of the U.S. weekly magazine Time. This is clear evidence proving that the U.S. has stepped up the preparations for a nuclear war against the DPRK in real earnest, while talking it has no plan to launch a military action against the DPRK and it is interested in "dialogue" with the DPRK in a bid to mislead the world public opinion.
When taking into consideration the fact that the Bush administration adopted it as its policy to mount a "preemptive attack" on "rogue states", the secret rehearsal cannot but heighten the DPRK's vigilance as it is a serious development.
It is an open secret that the U.S. is concentrating its efforts on the production of nuclear weapons to be used in destroying underground facilities of the DPRK in "case of emergency."
Under this situation, the DPRK can never overlook the maneuver.
What merits a serious attention is that the exercise was timed to coincide with the u.s. defense department's final examination of its crucial plan to mount a military attack on the DPRK.
According to this war scenario, the U.S. seeks to make surprise strikes at major targets and nuclear facilities of the DPRK and hurl special units into its rear as an advance force to harass it.
The prevailing situation indicates that the U.S. "national security strategy" aimed at a preemptive attack on the DPRK has entered the phase of its implementation.
The military situation on the Korean Peninsula is so tense that a nuclear war may break out any moment.
The people and the army of the DPRK are closely watching the dangerous military moves of the U.S. and keeping themselves fully ready to cope with them.

Mexico-Korea Friendship Association formed

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- The Mexico-Korea Friendship Association was inaugurated with due ceremony on January 15. The chairman of the association said at the ceremony that the association would organize various political and cultural functions to mark the birthday of Kim Jong Il (February 16) and express full support to the Korean people in their struggle to build a powerful nation and achieve reunification of the country under the army-based policy.
A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the ceremony.

Probe into truth behind killing of civilians called for

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- The All-People Committee for Probing the Truth Behind the Killing of Civilians Before and After the Korean War and Their Reinstatement held a press conference in Seoul on Jan. 27 demanding a probe into the truth behind the killing of civilians, according to Yonhap News. The organization in a press release claimed as many as 1 million civilians were killed by the U.S. Forces, the South Korean army and police before and after the war.
Nevertheless, the authorities have kept mum about the massacre of innocent civilians in the past and even the "National Assembly" has not yet discussed the "law on probing the truth behind the killing of civilians before and after the war and reinstating them," it noted.
Holding that the probe is the first step to prevent the repeated violation of human rights, the organization demanded the "national commission on human rights" actively engage in the work.
Meanwhile, the organization declared that it plans to strongly demand the "Government" and the "National Assembly" enact a related law while going ahead with the probe through the holding of a rally of the all-people committee to urge the settlement of the issue of the killing of civilians before and after the Korean War and achieve a legislation on it and the presentation of the second collective petition next month.

Electricity shortage acute in Korea

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) --All the Korean people have stepped up production and construction from the beginning of the new year. But the electricity shortage still remains acute. Electricity is essential for vitalizing the national economy this year.
Due to the electricity shortage, however, trains stop at irregular intervals and a complicated situation has been created in formation of trains and transport commanding.
It has caused an interminable vicious cycle in coal transport to power plants and electricity production.
Frequent stoppage of power supply and unstable voltage debase the quality of goods produced by factories and enterprises and brings difficulties to all sectors of the national economy.
The acute situation of electricity has also given inconvenience to the people's living.
The limited power supply to residential quarters interferes with the people's cultural and emotional life. Restaurants, bathhouses and other public service facilities cannot satisfy people's demand.
Problems have also been caused in the operation of trolley buses, streetcars and subway trains which play a great role in the traffic in the capital.
Long ago, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, with limited thermal and hydraulic power generating capacity, decided to push ahead with the building of its own nuclear power bases to meet the increasing demand of the country for electricity.
But the country's nuclear power industry has encountered U.S. obstructions from the outset.
If the United States did not kick up a "nuclear row" and the construction of an atomic power plant with a graphite-moderated reactors had been progressed by the country itself as scheduled, the electricity problem would have already been solved fully in the country.
The frozen nuclear power project has severely affected the country's electricity production, economic construction and people's living.
The Korean people are now working hard to carry out this year's tasks, overcoming with anti-U.S. sentiments the manifold difficulties caused by the electricity shortage.

Dolmens of different shapes discovered

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- There are five dolmens in the mid-slope of Waksae hill in Jang-ri, Sangwon county, Pyongyang. They date back to the period of ancient Korea (early 30th century b.c.-108 b.c.)
They were built at intervals of 50-100 centimeters in a small space 8 meters long from south to north and 7.5 meters from east to west.
The coffin chamber of dolmen no. 2 was made with plain rocks on the ground and those of dolmens nos. 3 and 5 with rubble stones. The coffin chambers of dolmens nos. 1 and 4 had both plain rock walls and rubble stone walls.
The chambers are 150-190 centimeters long, 80-100 centimeters wide and 70-80 centimeters high.
Found inside the dolmens were such relics as star-shaped axes, stone arrowheads, top-shaped bowls and earthenware steamers, and cremated human bones.
According to archaeologists said it was the first time in the country to discover dolmens of different shapes in a small space covered with rubble stones.
They said the bowls of the same shape, materials and color found in all the five dolmens implied that the dolmens dated back to the same period. What was the most interesting thing was that the cremated bone pieces had been found in dolmen no. 3, they said.

GNP of S. Korea indicted for its anti-reunification deeds

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- The propaganda department of the c.c., the National Democratic Front of South Korea on Monday issued an indictment accusing the "Grand National Party" (GNP) of its anti-reunification deeds, according to Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation. Branding the GNP as no. 1 in shaping rotten politics and a dirty group of outdated political forces, the indictment said:
Its defeat in the "presidential election" was a stern punishment given by the people to the traitorous party which had been hell bent on pro-U.S. flunkeyist deeds and anti-north confrontation, indifferent to the nation and the people.
The thrice-cursed crimes committed by heavyweights of the GNP against the nation and history are well known to the world.
The GNP keen on treachery, plots to perpetuate the national division and confrontation among the fellow countrymen far surpasses the successive traitorous political parties in vile nature and bad habit.
Its group has viciously slandered and debased the June 15 joint declaration, a landmark for the independent national reunification, while persistently standing in the way of its implementation. As if it were not enough with calling for the "permanent presence of the U.S. Forces in South Korea", it has been hell bent on the moves against the fellow countrymen, acting a shock brigade for carrying out the bellicose bush administration's policy for a nuclear war against the north.
The GNP is a den of traitors and anti-reunification elements estranged from the nation and the people.
It is a center of corrupt politicians, the general headquarters of old political forces consisting of migratory politicians, who do not care for face and principle only to get career, fame and self-interest, disgusting political charlatans greedy for power and hotshots in irregularities and corruption.
The existence of the GNP symbolic of backward politics of South Korea is a shame and tragedy for the South Korean people.
All the people desirous of a new society and new politics should valiantly turn out in the struggle to eliminate from the South Korean political arena the GNP which was given a stern punishment in the 16th-term "presidential election".

Rodong Sinmun on Kim Jong Il's dynamic steermanship

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il is a great statesman who is leading the Korean revolution and the human cause of independence to victory, meeting the need of the present times, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. It goes on:
He clearly taught that the master key to defending socialism lies in the strong capability of the army and established the unique political mode of giving top priority to the army during the past "arduous march" and the forced march.
He is steering the army-based era. His great leadership finds a vivid expression in decisively smashing the imperialists' strategy to dominate the world, advancing the Korean revolution and the human cause of independence to victory with his iron-willed courage and outstanding strategy and performing heroic feats and working epoch-making miracles with his experienced and tested leadership art.
He is widely known as a general-type statesman steering the 21st century. This would be unthinkable without the rare qualities he attained while growing up and his inborn disposition.
He inherited this disposition as an outstanding brilliant commander from President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Suk, generals of Mt. Paektu, and fostered unrivalled courage and spirit in the battlefields of the anti-Japanese war. And he acquired the wisdom and strategy as a brilliant commander braving any trials and difficulties, standing by the operational table in the supreme headquarters in the days of the hard-fought war.
He is lauded by the people as the general-type statesman leading the army-based era for having demonstrated the outstanding political and military ability throughout his long history of leading the revolution.
The people's army and people of the DPRK are filled with pride and confidence that the army-based DPRK led by Kim Jong Il is best. They will successfully accomplish the sacred cause of building a powerful nation and national reunification upholding his army-based leadership with the might of single-hearted unity.

U.S. dangerous attempt at preemptive attack under fire

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is loudmouthed about dialogue for a "peaceful settlement" of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, asserting that it "has no intention to invade North Korea." But this is not its real intention. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.
    The article continues:
It is trite double-dealing tactics of the U.S. to put up the signboard of "peace" in a bid to deceive the public and, at the same time, put spurs to its preparations for a war.
The U.S. imperialists have become ever more undisguised in their moves to stifle the DPRK by force under this signboard.
The U.S. war scenario dubbed "contingency plan," an appendix of its "operation plan 5027", is in the making.
The "contingency plan" is aimed at dealing "deadly blows" at the front and rear of the DPRK simultaneously. It calls for mobilizing sophisticated military hardware and information system in case of "emergency" on the Korean Peninsula to neutralize the DPRK's "offensive forces," indiscriminately strike its strategic vantages and thus seize the military initiative and put it under the U.S. control in the shortest possible time.
All the planned U.S. military actions presuppose preemptive attacks upon the DPRK. pursuant to this scenario, the U.S. Forces in South Korea are busy with the reorganization of their units to increase their capability to invade the north. The U.S. is hell-bent on developing tactical nuclear weapons to be used in the second Korean War, while pushing ahead with the formation of a "joint stealth operation unit" whose mission is to carry out a preemptive nuclear assault operation.
The reality goes to prove the U.S. talk that it has "no intention to invade North Korea" and stands for "dialogue" is nothing but sheer sophism to fool the public opinion and a trick to buy time to round off the deployment of its aggressor forces according to its war scenario. Dialogue can never go with the U.S. moves to invade the DPRK.

U.S. secret operation against S. Korea disclosed

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary accuses the U.S. of having pushed forward a secret operation since last year to quench the South Koreans' towering anti-Americanism. According to the New York Times, the recently disclosed secret propaganda plan of the U.S. Defense Department included operations to bribe South Korean media persons, build up public opinion in favour of the U.S. and organize pro-U.S. demonstrations, etc. This is an intolerable challenge and mockery of the South Koreans in their efforts to retake the national dignity and sovereignty usurped by the U.S. imperialists as it glaringly reveals the U.S. true colours as a kingpin of fabrication, trick, plot and terrorism.
With no intrigue can the U.S. calm down the South Koreans' mounting anti-Americanism.
The anti-U.S. struggle raging across South Korea is an eruption of the South Koreans' wrath and grudge pent up for nearly 60 years. This struggle will remain unabated as long as the U.S. hands of aggression and interference are stretched out to South Korea and their aggression forces remain there.
The South Koreans are strongly demanding the U.S. clarify its secret operation plan and how it has been pushed forward and apologize for it.
If the U.S. is not pleased with the South Koreans' anti-Americanism, it should drop its policy to dominate Korea, a policy to draw water to its mill at the sacrifice of interests of the Korean nation.

DPRK circus successful at international acrobatics festival

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- A gold cup, top prize, was awarded to aerial flight "flying girls" of the Pyongyang circus at the 27th Monte Carlo international acrobatics festival in Monaco from Jan. 16 to 19. Acrobats flawlessly performed complicated and difficult movements including 4 somersaults in the air, the first of its kind in the world acrobatic arena, evoking stormy cheers from the audience.
Another acrobatic piece "plastic balance on rope" won a special cup.
The festival brought together over 40 excellent numbers by many acrobats from the DPRK and 10 other countries and regions.

Bush's nuclear racket slammed abroad

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- Foreign news media, political parties, organizations and public figures castigated the bush administration for its nuclear racket aimed to isolate the DPRK. In recent three months alone, more than 400 news media including the Russian newspaper Pravda, LAO News Agency, Radio Guinea and the U.S. newspaper workers' world brought to light the nature of the nuclear issue in the Korean Peninsula and criticized the U.S. for causing the nuclear crisis.
Over 270 political parties, organizations and public figures of at least 70 countries, including the Workers' Party of Bangladesh, the General Secretary of the Socialist Revolutionary Party of Peru and the Secretary General of the Arabic Association for Arts, Culture and Information of Egypt, made public statements, letters of protest and bulletins condemning the U.S. for nullifying the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework and the Bush administration for compelling the DPRK to withdraw from the NPT.

Bush hit for slandering DPRK

Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea today issued a statement accusing U.S. President Bush of committing such a very grave provocation as malignantly slandering the DPRK in a "state of union address" at congress on January 29. The statement said:
Bush said an oppressive regime rules a people. He further said we now know that the regime was deceiving the world, and developing those weapons all along, and today the North Korean regime is using its nuclear program to incite fear and seek concessions.
Bush has so far earned an ill-fame as an emotional backbiter, but his recent address clearly proves that he is a shameless charlatan reversing black and white under the eyes of the world and the incarnation of misanthropy as he rejects the people out of his favor for no reason.
No sooner had he come to power than he, prompted by the deep-rooted hostility toward the socialist system in the DPRK, described the DPRK as part of an "axis of evil" only to invite worldwide criticism and condemnation and retract his remarks in less than one year.
When the international community expressed deep apprehensions in the wake of his remarks listing the DPRK as a target of preemptive nuclear attacks, Bush, commander-in-chief, said in great haste that the U.S. had no intention to invade North Korea. But, in actuality, he sent an aircraft carrier to the East Sea of Korea.
The Korean people is a peace-loving people who never had their eyes on other country, a nation whose history began thousands of years ago when the U.S. did not exist in the world.
The demands of the DPRK still remain simple.
The DPRK does not seek to gain concessions from the U.S. by threatening it as Bush claimed, but urges the U.S. to stop its intervention and threat so that the Korean people may live in peace for themselves as they did when such a country as the U.S. did not exist.
From this purport the DPRK proposed the U.S. to legally assure each other of non-aggression.
The U.S. has deployed nuclear weapons in one part of Korea which has nothing to do with it and posed a nuclear threat to the DPRK, causing the nuclear issue to surface on the Korean Peninsula. The U.S. was the first to have nuclear weapons and emerged as the world's largest possessor of weapons of mass destruction. Yet it is trying to mislead the public opinion by spreading the rumor that the DPRK is chiefly to blame for the nuclear issue. This is the height of shamelessness.
The reckless remarks made by Bush in his official speech dealing with the year's national policy cannot but reflect the stand and policy of the present U.S. administration.
This policy speech is, in essence, an undisguised declaration of aggression to topple the DPRK system.
The U.S. ulterior motive in having persistently dodged the DPRK's proposal for concluding a non-aggression treaty between the DPRK and the U.S. has now been brought to daylight.
The U.S. is seriously mistaken if it thinks the DPRK will remain a passive onlooker to the U.S. reckless moves to dare topple the DPRK system which was chosen and built by the Korean people themselves and is considered by them as their life and soul.
We will never allow the U.S. to wantonly encroach upon the sovereignty and dignity of the DPRK and destroy its system. We will do our utmost to defend our system in view of the U.S. declaration of aggression.
