Kim Jong Il's army-based policy praised

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- A joint seminar of the Ugandan groups for the study of the Juche idea on the Juche idea and army-based policy took place at Chambogo University of Uganda on March 11 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun and the 9th anniversary of the election of leader Kim Jong Il as Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK. Minister of state for water, land and environment of Uganda Baguma Isoke, who is also chairman of the Ugandan National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea, in his report said that Kim Jong Il is strengthening the people's army, leading the overall socialist construction with it as hardcore and pillar of the country and steering the cause of global independence to victory.
Under his army-based leadership the Korean people are vigorously pushing ahead with the building of a powerful socialist nation, not wavering even an inch at a time when they are pressed for everything owing to the imperialist allied forces' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK and the continued natural disasters, the reporter added.
The chief of the group for the study of the Juche idea of teachers of Chambogo Normal College of Uganda in a speech said that Kim Jong Il set forth the peculiar political philosophy that the army is precisely the party, the state and the people and is leading the building of a powerful socialist nation to victory through his army-based revolutionary leadership. His army-based revolutionary line is an all-powerful treasured sword that guarantees the sovereignty and dignity of the nation and the building of a powerful nation in Korea, he noted.
A seminar was also held by the Bulgarian group for the study of the Juche idea on March 12. The chief of the group said at the seminar that the recent international situation proves how just Kim Jong Il's army-based policy is.
He said that Korea, the vanguard of the world movement for socialism and communism, will shatter the U.S. wild ambition for world domination in the 21st century, too, as it frustrated the U.S. imperialists' ambition for world hegemony in the 1950s.

Anti-U.S. struggle for independence called for

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) issued a statement yesterday on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the arson at the "U.S. Cultural Centre" in Pusan, Seoul-based Voice of National Salvation reported. On March 18, 1982, students in Pusan set fire to the centre and scattered the anti-U.S. handbills reading "Yankees, Go Home" and "Damn U.S. Neo-Colonialism", giving vent to the pent-up grievance and resentment at the U.S. imperialist aggression forces who plunged Kwangju city into the sea of blood while enforcing the most barbaric colonial military fascist rule over South Korea after occupying it, he said, and went on:
The arson at the centre was followed by the struggle for taking over "U.S. Cultural Centres" and the U.S. embassy and other colonial ruling organs and the vigorous struggle to burn the U.S. stars and stripes and reject the U.S. imperialists' war exercises and their moves for interfering in internal affairs of South Korea in different parts.
The touch-and-go crisis of a nuclear war is being created on the Korean Peninsula by the U.S. reckless moves. The U.S. attack on the north will precisely be a declaration of war against the people in the south. As there is neither front nor rear in a modern war and a nuclear holocaust does not know the boundary between the south and the north, the nation will be exterminated altogether if a war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula.
The NDFSK will, together with all the people, more dynamically conduct the anti-U.S., anti-war struggle under the uplifted banner of the June 15 joint declaration. If the Bush administration takes the road of unleashing a war at the end, we will make this land stained with the blood shed by the murdered civilians a burial place of corpses of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces with the united efforts of the whole nation.

U.S. chiefly to blame for missile threat

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is chiefly to blame for the threat of missile, say papers here today in signed commentaries denouncing the U.S. conservative forces for persistently talking about "threat" from the DPRK. Rodong Sinmun observes that it is none other than the U.S. which upsets the strategic balance of the world and threatens its peace and security.
    It goes on:
Pursuant to an extremely self-righteous policy, the U.S. is going ahead with its plan to establish the Missile Defense System (MD), throwing away the international treaty it signed like a pair of worn-out shoes.
The MD is the source of the deepest concern in the international arena. This is because it is a dangerous move which may disturb the world strategic stability and spark a new arms race. That is why the world is unanimous in censuring the MD.
Under this situation the U.S. felt an urgent need to invent a pretext to soothe the world protest and denunciation. So the U.S. is clamouring about "threat of missiles" from the DPRK, a long bankrupt fiction.
The DPRK's missile plan for self-defense can in no way be a threat to those countries which are not hostile toward it. Minju Joson in a signed commentary urges the U.S. to ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by its policy to stifle the DPRK by force of arms and immediately stop its anachronistic moves.

Scientific achievements

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- Remarkable successes have been achieved in the DPRK as a result of the increased efforts to develop the country's science and technology. The mechanical engineering research institute of the academy of sciences is making a great contribution to the computerization of the national economy through introduction of state-of-the-art technologies, such as the design support program and nano.
The highlight of its work is the manufacture of disk for the eternal preservation of the country's important transcribed tapes.
With emphasis on the development of digital prospecting equipment, the geology institute has succeeded in establishing a computer-based geological map of Korea.
Meanwhile, the electronic materials research institute has developed new materials. it has also developed various program needed in major economic sectors.
Similar successes have been made by research institutes of the Academy of Agricultural Science.
The rice research institute is redoubling its efforts to identify high-yielding varieties of rice, while building a hothouse in which rice-growing experiments can be done several times a year because of the shortened cultivation period.
The agro-biological research institute completed a new method of zapping potato virus, thus opening up the prospect of virus-free potato cultivation.
The DPRK's scientists and technicians are now striving to raise the country's science and technology standards to world levels in as short a time as possible.

Hoeryong Maternity Hospital

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The Hoeryong Maternity Hospital is situated in Hoeryong city, North Hamgyong Province, the northernmost part of Korea. The three-storied hospital was opened on October 4, Juche 84 (1995). It has a total floor space of 4,200 square meters.
The ground floor houses rooms for the treatment of outpatients and the first floor rooms for caesarian operation and functional diagnosis and the second floor has sick wards.
The hospital is equipped with up-to-date medical appliances including incubators and functional diagnosis machines.
At least 1,000 women are given delivery assistance at the hospital every year.
Three triplets and 37 twins have been born in the hospital over the past 6 years since its opening.
When triplets were born there on January 25, 2000, leader Kim Jong Il took a benevolent measure to helicopter the babies and their mother to the Pyongyang maternity hospital.
Medical workers there are devoting themselves to their services to protect and promote the health of babies and their mothers.

Press release on demonstrations in front of U.S. embassy issued

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The solidarity for implementing the south-north joint declaration in South Korea reportedly issued a press release on March 16 as regards its demonstrations staged in front of the U.S. embassy in Seoul for five days from March 11. It said:
The projected maneuvers, a combination of "rsoi" and "foal eagle", timed to coincide with the disclosure of a report on "nuclear posture," go to prove that Bush's hostile policy toward the north is intended to round off the preparations for war in actuality and unleash a war on the Korean Peninsula.
Upset by the atmosphere of reconciliation, peace and unity on the Korean Peninsula and the desire of the Korean nation for reunification daily mounting after the adoption of the joint declaration, the U.S. imperialists undisguisedly revealed their moves to lay obstacles in the way of implementing the joint declaration and achieving the reunification of the country, bring the situation back to that in the era of confrontation and ignite a war at any cost.
The demonstrations were held in demand of the withdrawal of the U.S. hostile policy toward the north, which is increasing the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula and a halt to the joint military exercises to be staged from March 21.

Ri Hoe Chang's remarks assailed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The reunification solidarity for the implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and peace on the Korean Peninsula on March 14 reportedly issued a statement titled "president of the Grand National Party, who made harsh remarks against north escalating tensions on Korean Peninsula, come to your senses." Ri Hoe Chang, who has been censured by different public circles for his harsh remarks made against the north during his trip to the united states in January, visited Japan this time and let loose a string of vituperation that "it is hard to expect peace on the Korean peninsula without settling the north's issue of weapons of mass destruction," and talked about "reciprocity", "transparency", "verification" and the like, the statement said, and went on:
If he continues to distort the desire of the people and seek for the permanent division of the nation, he will be sternly judged by the masses.
He should clearly know that the resentment at the U.S. that threatens peace on the Korean Peninsula and is the "kingpin of offences", and the indignation against Japan hell-bent on increasing the danger of war on the peninsula in "cooperation" with the U.S. are growing stronger among the people.

Anniversary of reunification solidarity marked in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The reunification solidarity for the implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and peace on the Korean Peninsula reportedly held a ceremony for commemorating the first anniversary of its formation and a 2002 meeting for independent reunification in Seoul on March 15 with the attendance of officials of the democratic movement organizations. The meeting was addressed by delegates of the (South) Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the "National Federation of Peasants Associations," the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils, the South Korean Youth League and the anti-U.S. women's society, which are affiliated with the reunification solidarity, and by those who were recently released from prison.
The meeting in a resolution declared the realization of the June 15 joint declaration and the strengthening of the non-governmental reunification movement forces through the anti-U.S., anti-war movement in the whole area and the broad movement for great national unity and through solidarity and unity as the goal of the reunification solidarity for 2002.
Prior to it, the organization held the fifth all-people meeting to denounce the moves of foiling the south-north joint meeting for implementing the joint declaration and greeting the new year and call for a massive participation in the artistic performance "Arirang", at which it condemned the U.S. war moves and vowed to make the performance "Arirang" a place for national reconciliation and unity.

Anecdotes about President Kim Il Sung

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- Over 102,000 won was paid to President Kim Il Sung by the Wonhwa Cooperative Farm, Phyongwon county, South Phyongan Province in November, Juche 82 (1993) as his share of distribution in cash for ten years. He exerted all his efforts for the prosperity and agricultural development on the farm for about 40 years as its honorary member.
The farm decided to save his every-year-share of distribution in cash equivalent to the average share of a farmer from Juche 72 (1983).
Informed of this, he said that he became rich and would like to give the farm a treat. After personally calculating the prices of farm machines, he bought several tractors and trucks for the farm.
In this way the money he received from the farm was sent back to it.
One day of May, Juche 63 (1974) some operators of transplanting machines were seen working hard to finish their job in the remaining patch of a paddy field in south Hwanghae Province though darkness was setting in.
On seeing them on the way of on-the-spot guidance, he told his chauffeur to stop the car and throw headlight on the machines, saying that they were still at work despite darkness.
When they ran close to the kind man to express their thanks to him, they were greatly excited to find that it was the president who was standing by the car.
That day the president did not leave there until he saw them finish the work.
Right after the liberation of the country (August 15, 1945), he visited a peasant house in Anchan-ri, Sijung county, to learn about his living conditions. The peasant was too poor to afford to buy a farm implement to speak of.
His heart went out to him. Saying that he would like to take with him six mountain birds hunted by his children, he paid a lot of money for them.
The money was enough for the peasant to buy an ox to realize his strong wish to till the land with his own ox.

Withdrawal of U.S. forces from S. Korea urged

Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- George Magamis, delegate of the Lebanese Communist Party, authorized by the general secretary of the party, signed the international signature paper supporting the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and demanding the immediate withdrawal of the U.S. forces from South Korea on March 13 on behalf of 13,000 party members. The signature paper said that the world sincerely hopes that the division of the Korean Peninsula for over half a century would be terminated in the spirit of the joint declaration.
But the United States, far from withdrawing its forces from South Korea in keeping with the ardent desire of all the Korean people for reunification, defined the DPRK as the "no. 1 enemy" and is seeking the unilateral hardline policy toward it, the paper said, adding that it is ceaselessly staging military maneuvers targeted against the DPRK together with the South Korean bellicose forces while spreading on purpose the rumor about "threat from North Korea."
    It went on:
Korea should be reunified independently by the united efforts of the Korean nation responsible for the reunification issue in the spirit of the joint declaration and the United States should bear the responsibility for hindering the reunification of the Korean Peninsula through its reckless hardline policy toward the DPRK and creation of the danger of war and foster an atmosphere favorable for the reunification of Korea by withdrawing its forces from South Korea.
Those countries that are concerned about the security of the Korean Peninsula should support the reunification through federacy formula based on the three charters for Korea's reunification and refrain from placing their purpose and interests above this issue and obstructing it.
