Message of sympathy to Egyptian President

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, on Feb. 23 sent a message of sympathy to Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak as regards a loss of hundreds of human lives caused by an accidental fire on a passenger train in Egypt. The message expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the Egyptian President and, through him, to the victims and bereaved families.


U.S. attempt to suppress students

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The U.S. reportedly described occupation and sit-in strike at the U.S. chamber of commerce and industry by students under the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils on Feb. 18 as a "terrorist incident" and is going to suppress those students as "terrorist criminals." The U.S. embassy in Seoul had a confab a few hours after their struggle and asked the South Korean police authorities to inform it of materials about 32 students arrested.
    This is aimed to inflict harsh punishment on those students taking the lead in the anti-U.S. struggle by describing them as "terrorist criminals" and furthermore to crack down on the anti-U.S. struggle of the South Korean people by "force".


Bush's outbursts condemned in Russia and Austria

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Rallies were held in Moscow and Leoben on Feb. 10 and 11 to denounce bush's outbursts under the sponsorship of the Moscow organization of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks and the Leoben city branch of the Communist Party of Austria (CPA). Present at the rallies were party members and citizens of Moscow and Leoben.
    A decision was adopted at the rally in Russia.
    The decision strongly protested against Bush's remarks pulling up the DPRK under the pretext of "anti-terrorism" and said that the U.S. imperialists should clearly see the firm will of the Korean people to achieve national reunification, stop at once their attempt to isolate and stifle the DPRK and immediately withdraw their troops from South Korea.
    The participants condemned Bush's outbursts and decided to hold a demonstration in front of the U.S. embassy in Moscow in support of the just cause of the Korean people.
    The chairman of the Leoben city branch of the CPA in a speech at the rally said that safeguarding the DPRK is part of the world peace movement at present and the communists of Austria will always stand on the side of the Korean people and strengthen the solidarity movement.
    A letter of solidarity to the Korean people was adopted at the rally in Austria.


Bush's remarks about "axis of evil" assailed

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Former U.S. President Carter, speaking at a meeting on the issue of combating terrorism held in Atlanta, dismissed Bush's remarks singling out North Korea, Iran and Iraq as members of the "axis of evil" as very naive and unproductive, Itar-Tass reported on Feb. 23. Such description is seriously disturbing the process of normalizing the relations between those countries and other members of the international community, he said, adding that it would take several years to compensate for the loss caused by Bush's remarks.
    Former U.S. State Secretary Albright, speaking at Michigan University on Feb. 22, termed Bush's description of North Korea, Iran and Iraq as members of the "axis of evil" a wrong and foolish remark.


National dress and relics exhibition

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The national dress and relics exhibition is open at the Korean folklore museum. Exhibited in three rooms are more than 580 kinds of clothes, relics, mural paintings, pictures, photos and other subsidiary scientific materials covering the period from the primitive age to the Ri dynasty (1392-1910).
    Clothes, relics and other materials of the primitive age, ancient times, the period of the three kingdoms (Koguryo, Paekje, Silla) and the age of the Palhae kingdom are exhibited in the first room, men's clothes produced in the reign of the Koryo dynasty (918-1392) and the Ri dynasty and modern national garments in the second room, and national clothes of women in the reign of the Ri dynasty in the third room.
    The exhibition draws the attention of visitors for displaying the newly discovered and researched materials related to dressing in the reign of ancient Korea (early 30th century B.C.-108 B.C.) and the Koryo dynasty.


Bush's argument about "axis of evil" rejected abroad

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Bush's argument about the "axis of evil" was rejected in different countries. According to the U.S. Wall Street Journal dated Feb. 11 issue, Russian President Putin in an interview with its reporter, said he did not approve the U.S. listing DPRK Iran and Iraq as members of the "axis of evil" and he bitterly denounced it once again when meeting with the Canadian President on Feb. 15.
    President of the council of ministers of Cuba Castro in a speech at a recent international meeting said: The U.S. assertion that the DPRK, Iran and Iraq pose a "threat" to the U.S. is a "laughing-stock" and it is aimed to cover up the U.S. intention to seek world supremacy.
    Spanish prime minister Aznar in an interview with the German magazine Spiegel on Feb. 17 expressed the standpoint of keeping himself away from Bush's argument about the "axis of evil", adding that it is high time to debate on the new U.S. diplomatic plan.
    A spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Feb. 19 said that Ukraine does not agree with the standpoint of the U.S. that listed individual countries as members of the "axis of evil" without any substantial and objective evidence.
    Boleslaw Jaszezuk, president of the c.c., the Left Radical Party of Poland, in a letter of protest on Feb. 14 and Stanislaw Ognik, chairman of the group for founding the Working-Class Party of Poland, in a press statement on Feb. 15 that the U.S. President's remarks about the DPRK are a threat to an independent state and the real intention of the U.S. is to stifle socialist Korea.


U.S. plans to develop new type of nuclear weapon

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The Bush administration is examining the development of new-type nuclear weapon and strategic carrier system, Seoul-based Yonhap News quoted the Washington Post as saying. The "council of nuclear weapons" which groups officials of the U.S. Defense Department and the department of energy issued an order to develop nuclear warheads capable of destroying underground targets and deployed think-tank "for ultra-modern warheads" in the three nuclear weapon institutes in the U.S. mainland in a bid to develop new nuclear warheads and improved version of warheads.
    This is contained in a report on reexamination of the nuclear policy which was worked out by an order of the U.S. defense secretary and approved by bush, which was disclosed for the first time when the director of the NNSA in charge of the nuclear weapon production centres made a testimony at a congress hearing on Feb. 14.
    In the testimony he said that the NNSA would focus on improving warheads of "minuteman 3" intercontinental missile, "trident" missile, cruise missile and b-61 nuclear bomb for at least 10 years.


Jangjasan Children's Camp opens

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Schoolchildren have started their pleasant camping at the Jangjasan Children's Camp. The first term of camping begins on the occasion of the February holiday every year.
    The campers train their bodies and consolidate what they have learned through mountaineering, sports games, dancing parties and music and dance distribution and contests.
    Particularly, skiing and march through snow help the campers cultivate a strong sense of organization and discipline and the spirit of overcoming difficulties.
    The camp was established at a beauty spot in the suburbs of Kanggye, Jagang province, in September Juche 65 (1976).
    Its total floor space is over 72,000 m2.
    A swimming pool, a skiing ground and a boating ground have been built on a modern line.
    The camp houses of three buildings with an accommodation capacity for more than 500 campers have all facilities necessary for camping including a room for disseminating the knowledge of mountaineering, an animal and plant specimen room, a fine arts room and a music room.
    The state, calling children the king of the country, has built children's camps in Songdowon, Mt. Myohyang, Sokam and other scenic spots and takes all solicitous care of the campers.
    Hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren enjoy pleasant camping at state expense every year.


Book on Buddhism published in DPRK

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- 17 volumes of the translated versions of "80,000 blocks of complete collection of Buddhist scriptures," listed as a national treasure, are published in the DPRK. They are a library of Buddhism as they comprehensively deal with Buddhist scriptures and relations early in the 13th century.
    6,793 volumes of the scriptures were brought out for 16 years (1236-1251).
    They hold an important position in the history of culture for their elaborate engraved sutra blocks, perfect engraved wood blocks, perpetual type-setting and excellent printing techniques.
    They are valued as the "standard scriptures" recognized by the people at home and abroad.
    The 700 odd-year-old "complete collection of Buddhist scriptures" and engraving blocks are preserved in an exhibition hall newly arranged in Pohyon temple, in Mt. Myohyang.


Modern houses built in countryside

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Farmers are now busy moving into new houses built in South Hwanghae Province of the DPRK where a great change took place as a result of land realignment. 15 new villages, each having 60 modern houses, appeared in those areas where fields were leveled and rezoned into those of standardized shapes.
    These houses will remain impeccable even in the distant future.
    Each house for one family has three living rooms, a kitchen, a store and even an annex.
    A nicely fenced house has a garden of persimmon and other fruit trees.
    Housing construction is now being completed in many other rural districts of the country including Kangwon and North Phyongan provinces, changing the appearance of the countryside beyond recognition.


Congratulations to foreign minister of Trinidad and Tobago

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- DPRK foreign minister Paek Nam Sun sent a congratulatory message to Nowlson gift on his appointment as foreign minister of Trinidad and Tobago. He in the message expressed confidence that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would grow stronger and wished him success in his new office.


Greetings exchanged between DPRK and Tajik foreign ministers

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The foreign ministers of the DPRK and Tajikistan exchanged messages of greetings on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between them. DPRK foreign minister Paek Nam Sun in the message expressed belief that the good friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to develop on good terms.
    Tajik foreign minister Talbak Nazarov expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries would grow stronger in the political, trade, economic, cultural, scientific and technological and other fields.


Greetings to Amir of Kuwait

    Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, yesterday sent a message of greetings to Jaber al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, Amir of Kuwait, on the occasion of its national day and liberation day. The message sincerely wished the Amir and the friendly people of Kuwait greater success in the work for the sovereignty and prosperity of the country and expressed belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would develop still further in the future, too.
