Initiative of joint meeting supported

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- It is very realistic and reasonable that the joint meeting of the DPRK government, political parties and organisations proposed to make this year as a "year of promoting the unity and reunification of the Korean nation by itself" through a nationwide patriotic struggle, says Rodong Sinmun today in a commentary. The news analyst says:
The basic spirit of the joint meeting is to preserve and embody the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration so as to gain a high goal of independent reunification this year.
Pro-reunification patriotism is guaranteed by the preservation and implementation of the joint declaration.
The three appeals and three proposals made at the joint meeting are indispensable and highly important tasks that should be carried out by the concentration of efforts in the pro-reunification movement of the nation this year.
Successes in the struggle for this year cannot be expected without implementing the joint declaration, giving momentum to the inter-Korean relations and pro-reunification movement and removing obstacles to peace and reunification.
The victory in the struggle for this year is guaranteed by the efforts to boost the inter-Korean relations, give momentum to the pro-reunification movement and create conditions and circumstances for the independent, peaceful reunification of the country under the banner of the joint declaration.
The key to successful pro-reunification movement is to put into practice the great proposition of "united efforts of the Korean nation."
The three appeals and three proposals are patriotic ones as they reflect the transparent spirit of independence, warm love for the nation, trust in the driving force of the nation and fixed will for national reunification.
All the Koreans should work hard to glorify this year as a year of a new surge in promoting the unity and reunification of the Korean nation by itself under the banner of the joint declaration in hearty response to the three appeals and three proposals.

11th anniversary of north headquarters of Pomminryon observed

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate articles to the eleventh anniversary of the formation of the north headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon). Pomminryon is a patriotic pro-reunification movement organisation whose mission is to reunify the country on the three principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity. It speaks for the common will of Koreans in the north and south of Korea and abroad.
Over the last ten odd years from its formation the pomminryon north headquarters has fully discharged its duty and responsibility in encouraging the fellow countrymen in the movement for the independent reunification of the nation and achieving solidarity with broad segments of pro-reunification movement organisations at home and abroad, true to the three charters for national reunification. In particular, it devotedly worked for the successful holding of the pan-national rally and various forms of pro-reunification festivals with august 15 as an occasion to greatly help strengthen solidarity among the Koreans in the north and south of Korea and abroad, give a strong impetus to the desire and will of the fellow countrymen for the reunification of the country and develop the movement for the reunification of the country into a nationwide one.
Rodong Sinmun in a signed article says today the movement of the Korean people for national reunification is confidently advancing along the orbit of independent reunification under the banner of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
    It goes on:
Pomminryon should hold higher the banner of national independence, decisively smash all the attempts to ditch the joint declaration and encourage all the Koreans to the struggle to this end.
It should work hard to carry out the three tasks to implement the joint declaration, improve the inter-Korean relations, give momentum to the pro-reunification movement and remove a threat to peace and obstacles to reunification in hearty response to the three appeals and three proposals made at the recent joint meeting of the DPRK government, political parties and organisations. By doing so, it should make great contributions to glorifying this year as a "year of promoting the unity and reunification of the Korean nation by itself."
Just is the patriotic pro-reunification movement of Pomminryon that is working hard to achieve national independence and great unity, guided by the joint declaration.
Minju Joson expresses the expectation that the north headquarters of Pomminryon will creditably discharge its mission and duty in opening a decisive phase for national reunification under the banner of national independence.

Pro-American flunkeyist remarks of Ri Hoe Chang slammed

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The solidarity for implementing the south-north joint declaration made public a statement on Jan. 18 denouncing Ri Hoe Chang, president of the "Grand National Party" of South Korea, for his pro-American flunkeyist remarks, according to a news report. Recalling that he at a "new year press conference" made imprudent remarks harmful to the present inter-Korean ties, chiming in with the u.s. hard line toward the DPRK, the statement denounced his remarks as "pro-American flunkeyist and anti-national utterances showing the qualification of a politician void of common sense".
Noting that the U.S. is the major factor of blocking the independent reunification of the nation, it said that the history of division taught the nation a lesson that dependence on outsiders makes it impossible to realize independent reunification any time.
Nevertheless, Ri did not even bother to "stand up for" the U.S., "which is a clear evidence of his anti-national and anti-reunification character seeking to curry favor with the U.S.", said the statement.

Minju Joson on purpose of American heavyweights' South Korean tour

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today comments on what U.S. right-wing politicians and conservatives seek in their tour of South Korea. U.S. high-ranking politicians and brasshats flew into Seoul one after another in January, 2002, to have confabs with those concerned of South Korea, the news analyst says, and goes on:
    This is something very unusual.
The U.S. strategy is to keep the DPRK listed as a "sponsor of terrorism" and invade it by force of arms under this pretext in a bid to gratify the U.S. ambition for domination.
Their South Korean junket is part of the efforts to put the strategy into practice.
What they seek in the tour is to make a field examination of the U.S. strategy towards the DPRK, work out a detailed plan to put it into practice and strengthen the U.S.-South Korea "cooperation system" targeted against the DPRK.
It is by no means fortuitous that the U.S. set up a special missile and announced a plan to deliver 111 missiles with a 300 km range to South Korea and build commanding and control facilities of the U.S. forces present there and army training command post, timed to coincide with the South Korean tour by the advocates of showdown.
If the U.S. is truly interested in peace and reunification of Korea, it should drop its anti-DPRK policy and attempt to stifle it and stop reckless military provocations rendering the situation in the country strained and pull its aggression forces out of South Korea.
The army and people of the DPRK maintain a resolute stand toward the imperialist aggressors and its military strike will be merciless.
