U.S. urged to stop hostile moves against DPRK

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is escalating its hardline policy to threaten and stifle the DPRK, while persistently pushing forward its moves to establish the Missile Defence system (MD) and contemplating about the deployment of anti-missile radars in South Korea. In this regard Rodong Sinmun today says in a signed commentary:
These are dangerous anti-peace moves as they are intended to escalate the tensions and increase the danger of war on the Korean peninsula.
The U.S. scheduled deployment of anti-missile radars in South Korea is aimed at mounting missile attacks on the DPRK any time.
What is more ridiculous is that the U.S., which has recently deployed huge combat forces and put them in an offensive posture against the DPRK, is demanding the latter reduce its "missile and conventional forces."
This is a gangster-like logic intended to totally disarm the DPRK and swallow it up with ease.
This compels the DPRK to maintain its maximum vigilance against the U.S. undisguised hostile moves.
The DPRK's missile development is one of the reliable self-defensive measures to smash the imperialists' moves to stifle the DPRK by force of arms and defend socialism.
The DPRK is fully ready to cope with any crisis on its own initiative and will deal merciless blows to the enemies coming in attack on it.
It is the revolutionary spirit and unique mode of counter-action to reciprocate good faith and counter a hardline policy with the toughest stand.

Day of Sun in 2002 to be commemorated worldwide

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- Preparations for commemorating the Day of the Sun (April 15), the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, and February 16, leader Kim Jong Il's birthday, in 2002 are making brisk headway worldwide. Functions held in various countries and international meetings adopted appeals and a special resolution calling for holding multifarious commemorations of the days as holidays common to humankind.
Participants in the seminar on the Juche idea for the independent development of Africa in the 21st century and a special meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to Support the Reunification of Korea held in Uganda and Colombia proposed to hold a world conference of organizations for the study of the Juche idea and its followers throughout the world and organize a grand "meeting for congratulating the sun of the 21st century" on these occasions.
The 8th meeting of the executive committee of the board of the International Institute of the Juche Idea adopted a special resolution calling on the Juche idea study organizations of all the continents and countries to make tangible contributions to this grand festival and to arrange visits to the sacred temple of Juche by delegates of the study organizations of all levels and hold a world conference on the Juche idea.
Organizations for the study of the Juche idea, friendly organizations and prominent figures in many countries released statements in support of such proposal and special resolutions and held meetings to issue declarations, resolutions and working plans.
The Asian regional preparatory committee was inaugurated in Kathmandu, Nepal, to commemorate the day of the sun in 2002 and greet the "meeting for congratulating the sun of the 21st century" and the first preparatory committee of that kind was formed in Poland.
Then followed the inauguration of preparatory committees under different names in over 50 countries including Russia, Cambodia, Pakistan, Syria, Mongolia, Jordan, Guinea, Congo, Denmark, Spain and Peru.
These committees group senior officials of parties and governments and prominent political and public figures including the chairman of the Madagascan national assembly, the Tanzanian minister of natural resources and tourism and the Guinean minister of territorial administration, localization and security.
The committees are active in the diverse work to study and explain the immortal feats of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and strengthen the international solidarity with the Korean people.

Over 160 anti-DPRK espionage flights

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist warmongers committed over 160 cases of aerial espionage against the DPRK in November, according to military sources. More than 30 espionage flights were made by U-2 high-altitude strategic reconnaissance plane, P-3 patrol plane and E-3 commanding plane.
EH-60 electronic warfare helicopters reconnoitered targets of the DPRK in the areas along the military demarcation line from Nov. 9 to 20.
They also staged more aerial war exercises against the DPRK.
At least 500 fighter bombers and assault planes were involved in the war exercises held in the sky above Wonju, Phyongchang and Kunsan areas from Nov. 26 to 28.
All this fully reveals the heinous attempt of the U.S. imperialists to render the situation on the Korean peninsula extremely tense and ignite a new war of aggression.

Newly unearthed remains of patriotic martyrs buried

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- The remains of patriotic martyrs which had been unearthed in Sinchon county, South Hwanghae Province, were buried in the huge grave of patriots beside the Sinchon Museum with due ceremony on November 30. They were brutally killed by the U.S. imperialists in October Juche 39 (1950), in the period of temporary strategic retreat of the Korean People's Army during the Korean War.
Among the remains are skulls with spikes, hoes and clamps stuck in them and other skulls clearly showing the traces of foreheads and crowns into which large nails were driven, skulls bearing traces of bullet wounds, broken arm and leg bones and remains of pregnant women and children.
Sin Tong Bok, chief secretary of the Sinchon county committee of the Wo1kers' Party of Korea, said in a memorial address that though many years have passed since that time, the remains bear witness to the monstrous atrocities committed by the U.S. imperialist aggressors, the most ferocious ogres and the sworn enemy of the Korean people, who kill people for pleasure.
Noting that their aggressive and brigandish nature can never change and they are becoming more cunning and vicious as the days go by, he urged all the Korean people to fight the U.S. imperialists and class enemies to the end, keenly aware of the bitter lesson drawn from Sinchon and the truth of the class struggle.
Speakers said that the Korean people would mercilessly punish the u.s. imperialists, the brutes, and force them to pay for the blood shed by the martyrs with deep rancor.
After a funeral poem was recited, the remains were buried in the grave.
Wreaths, bouquets and flowers were laid before the grave.

20,000th issue of Rodong Sinmun marked

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the people's palace of culture yesterday to commemorate the 20,000th issue of Rodong Sinmun. Present there were Choe Thae Bok, Jong Ha Chol and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. Rodong Sinmun was inaugurated on November 1, Juche 34 (1945).
Choe Chil Nam, editor-in-chief of Rodong Sinmun, in his report said that the founding of the newspaper provided the WPK with a powerful ideological weapon with which to train all its members and other working people as revolutionaries of Juche type and vigorously push ahead with the Korean revolution and the human cause of independence under the banner of the great Juche idea.
Recalling that ever since its first issue Rodong Sinmun has invariably shared the same destiny with the founder-leader of the party true to his idea and line and the party's policies, the reporter noted that this is the highest pride and the most gratifying review of the history of 20,000 issues of the party's newspaper.
President Kim Il Sung worked heart and soul to strengthen and develop the party's newspaper to be an efficient revolutionary newspaper of Juche type till the last moment of his life, he said, adding that the newspaper has enjoyed its greatest success in its development under the leadership of Kim Jong Il since the 1970s.
It is an outstanding exploit Kim Jong Il performed in the history of leading the party's newspaper that he brought about a signal turn in writing editorials in the 1970s, thus effecting a radical change in its activities.
He called for implementing to the letter the tasks Kim Jong Il put forward in his letter to the participants in the 8th congress of the Korean journalists union to creditably carry out the honorable mission of Rodong Sinmun as the eternal newspaper of the party and the leader.
All the journalists and editors would dynamically advance, united close around Kim Jong Il, vigorously wielding the writing brush of the revolution, and thus successfully carry out the mission as an ideological standard-bearer devotedly defending the leader, he said.

More meetings to bring new peak to production

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- More meetings of workers and peasants were held in different parts of the DPRK to vow to bring a new peak to production and construction, holding high the torchlight of Ranam. The meetings at the Pukchang Thermal-Power Complex, the Chollima Steel Complex, the Pyongyang Coal Mining Machine Plant, the Pongsan Cooperative Farm in Anbyon county, Kangwon Province, and others expressed the determination to demonstrate the might of Juche Korea again in building a powerful and prosperous nation, holding high the first torchlight of the revolutionary advance in the new century.
The meetings called upon workers and peasants to wage a vigorous struggle to bring a new era of prosperity as they overcame hardships of the "arduous march" and the forced march and opened the road of advance for building a powerful nation in the revolutionary spirit of soldiers and Kanggye spirit under the army-based leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.
They called for stepping up the revolutionary advance of the new century, holding high the torchlight of Ranam, so as to build Kim Jong Il's powerful nation in this land.

Vigorous struggle against anti-reunification forces called for

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article calls upon all the compatriots in the north, south and abroad to turn out in the vigorous nation-wide struggle to sweep away the anti-reunification forces inside and outside Korea who challenge forces standing for national independence and reunification. The article goes on:
Foreign domination and interference and the moves of the anti-reunification forces are the root cause of acts detrimental to the national unity and independent reunification and a cancer-like factor of blocking them.
Only when they are rooted out, can our nation survive and achieve reunification, unity and prosperity.
The pro-reunification patriotic forces can preserve the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, the precious achievement made in the efforts to achieve national independence and reunification, and create favorable conditions for attaining the reunification of the country by the Korean nation's efforts only when they bind the separatists hand and foot through a united struggle.
The more desperately the foreign forces and the anti-reunification forces work to stamp out the movement for the independent reunification of the Korean nation, the higher the compatriots should hold the banner of national independence.
No force on earth can ever overpower the united independent forces of the Korean nation.
The whole nation should unite close under the banner of great national unity and firmly build up and strengthen in every way the driving force for the country's reunification.

Rodong Sinmun on idea of attaching importance to writing brush

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, today in an editorial dedicated to the publication of its 20,000th issue calls on the journalists and pressmen to instigate the building of a powerful country in the party's idea of attaching importance to the writing brush. The foundation of Rodong Sinmun on November 1, 1945, provided a powerful ideological weapon to resolutely defend the cause of the leader, the editorial says, and continues:
The WPK's idea of attaching importance to the writing brush is the unique idea based on the principle of the Juche idea that man decides everything and there is nothing impossible when his idea is set in motion. And it is a powerful idea that puts forward the press work as the main front of ideological work and enhances the role of the socialist press in every way to push ahead with revolution and construction.
As there is no limit to the might of the popular masses awakened politically and ideologically, so there is no limit to the ideological might of the revolutionary writing brush.
The path covered by Rodong Sinmun is the history of worshipping and defending the leader, which has proudly recorded the glorious revolutionary history of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.
It is because of having them at the head of the party and revolution that Rodong Sinmun could powerfully display its militant might as the organ of the socialist ruling party during the period from its foundation to the publication of its 20,000th issue.
Kim Jong Il set a shining example in leading revolution to victory, always loving the writing brush along with arms.
He sent an immortal letter "journalists and other pressmen are ideological standard-bearers firmly defending our idea, system and cause" to the journalists and pressmen, so that they may have a powerful weapon to display the might of the writing brush more fully and proudly to meet the requirement of the present era.
The press media including Rodong Sinmun should hold higher the banner of the Juche idea in response to the letter and conduct media activities to make the sound of drums louder all over the country to build a powerful and prosperous country, stresses the editorial.

Greetings to Lao President

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, today sent a message of greetings to Lao President Khamtay Siphandone on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The message extended warm congratulations to the president and, through him, to the government and people of Laos on the occasion.
Noting that the Lao people have displayed patriotism and the spirit of self-reliance and fortitude, thus overcoming all the difficulties and ordeals and achieving many successes in defending and building their country under the correct leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) over the last 26 years, the message said that the Korean people are sincerely rejoiced over them.
Expressing the belief that the traditional friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would invariably consolidate and develop in the new century, too, in conformity with the desire and interests of the two peoples, the message wished the fraternal Lao people greater success in their work to implement the decision adopted at the 7th congress of the LPRP and turn the country into a modern industrial country, closely rallied around the LPRP led by Khamtay Siphandone.

Japanese reactionaries' suppression of Chongryon assailed

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- A Pyongyang mass meeting took place at the People's Palace of Culture today to denounce the Japanese reactionaries for cracking down upon the general association of Korean residents in Japan (Chongryon). On Nov. 29 the Japanese reactionaries ransacked the central standing committee of Chongryon as well as the Tokyo metropolitan headquarters and the western Tokyo headquarters of Chongryon with the mobilization of hundreds of prosecution and police agents.
Speaking at the meeting, Ryom Sun Gil, chairman of the central committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, condemned their search as a gangster-like provocation to Chongryon and Koreans in Japan and a premeditated and base political suppression.
Dismissing this crime as the most arrogant and unwarranted political crackdown upon Chongryon since its formation, he said this is stirring up bitter national resentment and hatred not only among the Chongryon organizations and the 700,000 Koreans in Japan but among all the Korean people and sparking worldwide anger.
What is arousing our bitterer resentment is that the Japanese reactionaries' suppression of Chongryon constitutes a wanton infringement upon the dignity and sovereignty of the DPRK and a grave insult to it, he noted.
He branded the Japanese reactionaries' suppression of Chongryon as a political campaign to undermine it and an undisguised challenge to the DPRK and bitterly denounced it with surging national wrath and resentment.
They should stop at once their reactionary and hostile acts against the DPRK, stop at once the dastardly and tyrannical suppression of Chongryon, unconditionally and promptly set free the unreasonably arrested officials of Chongryon and compatriots in Japan and make deserved apology to the Korean nation for their crimes.
Then the floor was taken by representatives of students, agricultural workers and women.
They noted that the Japanese reactionaries' fascist crackdown is an unpardonable atrocity adding to the crimes committed by Japan in the past. The Korean people will surely force Japan to pay not only for the blood shed by their forerunners but for the crimes perpetrated by Japan today, they stated.
The people in the north, they declared, will join all other compatriots in South Korea and abroad in the struggle to decisively foil the Japanese reactionaries' anti-DPRK, anti-Chongryon campaign.
Among those present at the meeting were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the central committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party, O Ik Je, vice-chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, Ryang Man Gil, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, and others.
