Japan had better know where it stands

Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- Japan once again made a bid for its permanent membership of the U.N. Security Council at the session of the 56th U.N. General Assembly, deliberately linking the issue of the SC reform with the issue of anti-international terrorism. In this regard Minju Joson today in a signed commentary observes: this daydream self-exposes how indiscreet and brazen-faced Japan is.
The SC permanent membership is not given to any country according to its wishes. A country can sit on it only when it is trusted by the international community and it is qualified for it.
Japan is not qualified to be its member at all. It is the only country in the world which has not yet honestly repented of the war crimes committed against humanity in the past though half a century has passed since its defeat.
In terms of global peace and stability Japan has only done harm to mankind.
Japan's bid for the SC permanent membership is aimed at emerging as a political power in keeping with its moves to become a military power and realizing its ambition for overseas expansion.
Japan is well advised to drop its ill-intention if it is to do something for the international community.
Japan should honestly admit all the crimes committed in the past, apologize for them and compensate the victims for them. This is not only a moral obligation of Japan but a prerequisite for it to get trust of the international community.
Japan is well advised to do what it should do, paying heed to the demand of the international community.

Adding shine to nation's dignity and honour called for

Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- Reunification is the only way for the Korean nation to survive, add shine to the dignity and honour of the country and the nation and achieve prosperity, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. It goes on:
This is because national reunification is the cause of establishing national sovereignty throughout Korea.
National sovereignty should be exercised by all members of the nation all over the country. The national sovereignty exercised by members of the nation in one part of the country only cannot be called full national sovereignty.
The reunification of Korea should be an undertaking to establish national sovereignty throughout Korea under any circumstances. Reunification is the only way of adding shine to the nation's dignity and honour and achieving prosperity because it is the cause of achieving national unity.
The strength of a nation lies in its unity. Only when a nation goes united, can it exist under any difficult conditions, display its dignity and honor and achieve prosperity of the country and nation.
National reunification presupposes the great unity of the nation and it leads to reunification.
Reunification can also provide practical conditions and possibility for the development and prosperity of a reunified country.
When the country is reunified, all the fellow countrymen in the north and the south and overseas will be able to pool wisdom and energies and use all resources and economic potentials of the north and the south in a uniform manner to build a rich, powerful and prosperous country.
In order to add shine to the nation's dignity and honor and build a prosperous reunified country it is necessary to set store by the spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and implement it to the letter.
The Korean nation can do anything when it gets united.
Nobody can stop the dynamic movement of the Korean nation for reunification under the uplifted banner of the declaration.

Establishment of new international information order called for

Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- It is an urgent demand at present to establish a new fair international information order in keeping with the development of modern information and telecommunication technology, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. It goes on:
The imperialists are now monopolizing huge modern means of information and massively disseminating reactionary ideas, culture and misinformation to meet their demands and interests.
They are deliberately interfering in internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of the "trend of it," the article says, calling for countering their reactionary information offensive with revolutionary information one.
What is important for establishing a new international information order is to enhance the role of the UN information service and non-aligned information, it notes, and goes on:
The United Nations should strictly abide by the principle of respect for sovereignty of each country and non-interference in its internal affairs and fully ensure objectivity and impartiality in information service.
The non-aligned information should be a true mouthpiece of the progressive countries and people who advocate independence, a dynamic agitator leading the people to accomplish the cause of independence and a fair judge of history who defends justice and condemns injustice.
Those in charge of information in developing countries should powerfully wield their pens to lay bare the aggressive and predatory nature of the imperialists and their neo-colonial methods.
An immediate task before the developing countries is to check anti-government or erotic information disseminated through internet, given the rapid worldwide flow of information through internet.
The ideological offensive of the imperialists can be frustrated when high vigilance is maintained against it and measures are taken to counter it.

Paddler couple

Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- Kim Song Hui, a DPRK table tennis star, and famous former women's ace Ri Pun Hui, now an official at a sports advisory body, were brought together by their love of the sport. Acting as pillars of DPRK table tennis teams, they contribute to bringing glory and honor to the country in international competitions.
Ri Pun Hui showed plenty of courage in leading her team to victory at the 41st World Table Tennis Championships, in which the unified team of the north and the south of Korea won, and in the team events at the 38th, 40th and 42nd championships, in which the DPRK finished runner-up. She also took second place in the singles at the 40th and 41st championships.
Kim Song Hui helped the DPRK finish third in the men's team events at the 39th and 42nd championships.
There was a tender understanding between them when they formed a mixed doubles pairing at the 39th championships.
Their performance proved to be most thrilling ever seen, Kim's powerful drives by pen-hold grip combining beautifully with Ri's left-hand strokes employing a shake hand grip.
Hailing from Pyongyang, Kim began his professional career at the locomotive sports team after passing through the table tennis group at the Pyongyang students and children's palace. Ri received training at Songnam primary school in the city of Hamhung, and began her professional career at a leading Korean team.
People's athlete Ri Pun Hui is working as a sports advisor after graduating from the Korean University of Physical Education, while merited athlete Kim Song Hui is still active in the sport.
They married in Juche 81 (1992) and now have a son.

Second day of 6th inter-Korean ministerial talks

Kosong, November 10 (KCNA) -- The 6th inter-Korean ministerial talks took place today following yesterday. At the talks the head of the north side said that at the first-day talks it advanced a just proposal for settling the principled issues arising in removing grave hurdles lying in the way of inter-Korean relations, preserving the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and improving those relations but the south side did not make any clear response to this.
He cited concrete facts to prove the wrong stand and attitude taken by the south side.
The wrong attitude of the south side found its expression first of all in the fact that it pursued confrontation with the north in contravention of the basic spirit of the joint declaration which calls for settling the issue of reunification independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation and it fully revealed its intention to do harm to the fellow countrymen in the north, noisily talking about "cooperation with outsiders" and its "principal enemy", he said, and went on:
We are not sitting at the negotiating table with the south side for an empty talk away from the joint declaration. If the south side takes a practical step to tide over the prevailing grave situation, the north side is ready not only to set again the timetable for visits between the north and the south now at a stalemate but reach good agreements for cooperation and exchange between both sides.
He advanced a draft joint press release of the north side reflecting the need for the south side to refrain from laying obstacles in the way of implementing the joint declaration to the letter and positively developing the dialogue, cooperation and exchange and containing timetables for the implementation of the points agreed upon at the 5th ministerial talks including the issue of exchanging the visiting groups of separated families and relatives depending upon the south side's lifting of the "emergency alert" within november. The talks continue.
