First secretary of c.c., Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League elected

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- The 23rd plenary meeting of the central committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League was held in Pyongyang yesterday. The meeting discussed recall and by-election of the central leadership member of the youth league.
    Ri Il Hwan was dismissed and removed from the first secretary of the central committee of the youth league for the sake of work and Kim Kyong Ho was elected first secretary.


Freight wagons for transporting basic foods produced

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- New type freight wagons for transporting basic foods were produced at the June 4 rolling-stock factory. They are equipped with all the facilities necessary for transporting basic foods including bean paste and soy sauce.
    These foods will be supplied to units of the Korean People's Army and people in different parts of the country.
    Modern factories have been built in various parts of the country in recent years to produce basic foods including bean paste, soy sauce and oil.


Reception at German embassy

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- A reception was given at the German embassy yesterday evening on the occasion of the German National Day. Invited to the reception were minister of foreign trade Ri Kwang Gun, vice-minister of foreign affairs Choe Su Hon, vice-minister of culture Song Sok Hwan, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Jon Yong Jin who is chairman of the Korea-Germany Friendship Association, officials concerned, diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations. Present were Claus Peter Woerner, German charge d'affaires ad interim, and embassy staff.
    Speeches were made at the reception.


Friendly ties established between Kangwon and Morona Santiago provinces

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- An agreement on establishing friendly relations between Kangwon Province of the DPRK and Morona Santiago Province of Ecuador was signed in Wonsan yesterday. The agreement was inked by Ko Jong Dok, chairman of the Kangwon Provincial People's Committee, and Jaime Mejia Reinoso, governor of the Morona Santiago provincial government.


Title of Hero of Republic awarded to 15-ton air hammer

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- The title of Hero of the Republic and gold-star medal and the order of the National Flag First Class were awarded to the 15-ton air hammer in the wheel shop of the July 6 Railway Factory yesterday. The hammer has been in full operation for the last 30 years, thus making great contributions to producing many parts necessary for railway transportation and the industrialization of the country.


Arms buildup in S. Korea denounced

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is going to additionally deploy U.S. air force in South Korea under the pretext of filling up a military vacuum on the Korean peninsula caused by the dispatch of the U.S. carrier kitty hawk to middle east in retaliation against the attacks on the U.S., according to Seoul-based radio No.1. The U.S. and the South Korean military authorities in a press release issued on Oct. 2 agreed to additionally beef up the U.S. air force in a bid to minimize the military vacuum on the Korean peninsula resulting from the redeployment of the carrier.
    The South Korean Defense Ministry disclosed that some of the flying corps and naval force belonging to the kitty hawk which left Japan would remain in the west pacific ocean to strengthen the South Korea-U.S. "joint defensive posture."
    This is a dangerous move to drive the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of war at any cost and the South Korean military authorities' support to the U.S. in its arms buildup is an act of chilling the Korean nation's ardent desire for reunification and a blatant challenge to its efforts to implement the June 15 joint declaration.


Leading officials meet newly appointed Russian ambassador

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- Kim Il Chol, minister of the People's Armed Forces, met and conversed with newly appointed Russian ambassador to the DPRK Andrei Karlov, who paid a courtesy call on him, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today. Present there were generals and officers of the Korean People's Army and the military attache of the Russian embassy here.
    Foreign minister Paek Nam Sun also met and conversed with Andrei Karlov who paid a courtesy call on him.


Inter-Korean talks open

    Kosong, October 4 (KCNA) -- Inter-Korean authorities' talks opened at Kumgangsan Hotel today to pep up the tourism of Mt. Kumgang, according to an agreement reached at the 5th inter-Korean ministerial talks. Kim Thaek Ryong, head of the delegation of the north side, recalled that the tourism has been underway in favor of promoting the reconciliation and unity of the nation.
    He said that pepping up the tourism is an important undertaking which has a positive impact on the overall north-south relations, calling for successfully holding the talks in conformity with the expectation and desire of the nation and its mission and duty to bring joy to all the fellow countrymen.
    He stressed that both sides should actively promote the tourism of Mt. Kumgang, taking into consideration the actual possibility and conditions for pepping up it and advanced the north's proposal dealing with issues related to measures to be discussed and solved at the talks.

Wreaths presented to Mongolian embassy

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- The Supreme People's Assembly and the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK and the DPRK-Mongolia Friendship Association today sent wreaths to the Mongolian embassy here, expressing deep condolences over the death of L. Enebish, chairman of the State Great Hural and general secretary of the c.c., the People's Revolutionary Party of Mongolia. Wreaths were placed before his black-colour ribboned portrait.
    Jang Chol, vice-chairman of the SPA, Pak Kyong Son, vice department director of the c.c., the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Il, vice-minister of foreign affairs, and other officials concerned visited the embassy, paid a silent tribute to L. Enebish and made entries in the mourners' book.

Message of condolence to Mongolian President

    Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message to Mongolian President Natsagiin Bagabandi on Tuesday, expressing profound condolences to the president and the family of the deceased over the death of L. Enebish, chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, from illness.
