Kim Jong Il inspects Ryongpho Revolutionary Site and Ullim falls

Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) - Leader Kim Jong Il on August 26 inspected the Ryongpho Revolutionary Site and Ullim falls recently discovered by soldiers of the people's army. He first went to the Ryongpho Revolutionary Site in Ryongpho Ri, Popdong county.
The revolutionary site is the historic place President Kim Il Sung inspected in the rain of bullets and shells in April 1951 when an offensive and defensive battle between the people's army and the enemy army was at its height and personally worked out an operation plan to defend the east coast and met with commanding officers and model combatants of a combined unit of the people's army to encourage them to perform a new feat so as to foil an offensive plan of the enemy in time.
After hearing an explanation about the revolutionary site, he went round the historic buildings which are preserved as they were.
He said the president was the invincible and iron-willed commander and gifted strategist who led the fatherland liberation war to a victory with his outstanding stratagem and Juche-based tactics, adding that his undying revolutionary feats will shine for all ages.
As the Ryongpho Revolutionary Site is very instrumental in imbuing the army and people with the revolutionary idea of the leader, the valuable historic relics should be preserved as they were and education should be conducted through them in a more efficient way, he said, and indicated concrete tasks and ways to this end.
He expressed the expectation and conviction that officials and lecturers of the revolutionary site would make great contributions to modeling the whole society and army on the Juche idea and posed for a photograph with them.
He then went to Ulrim waterfall recently discovered by soldiers of the people's army. The falls, 75 meters high, is one of many famous falls in Korea.
While going round the falls and well-arranged facilities of various kinds, he learned in detail about the discovery of the falls.
Feasting his eyes on the splendid falls and its surrounding landscape for a long while, he was greatly pleased to see one more treasure of eternal value discovered to add lustre to the beautiful rivers and mountains of the country in the first year of the new century thanks to the patriotic devotion of soldiers of the people's army.
He said thanks to the devoted efforts of soldiers of the people's army, creators of the happiness of the people, the people could be provided with a precious gift and highly appreciated their feat and thanked them.
He said that people should be given an opportunity to enjoy a cultural rest to their heart's content at the wonderful scenic spot discovered by soldiers of the people's army with utmost care and put forward tasks to this end.

KCNA on groundless rumors in U.S.

Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) -- A U.S. religious journal recently carried a frivolous article alleging that the DPRK is putting the "taboo on religion" and it is reported that protest actions demanding a "stop to persecution" of Christians are taking place among individuals in different regions of the U.S. The anti-DPRK diatribe is, in a word, a product of the U.S. hostile policy toward Korea and a sophism to tarnish the image of the DPRK by abusing religion as a lever of political intervention.
It, designed to achieve a sinister political purpose, is an unfounded rigmarole fabricated to slander the socialist system in the DPRK. It does not deserve even a passing note.
As known to all, ours is the superior socialist system under which religious liberty and activity of citizens are ensured by law.
This is the objective reality recognized by all the U.S. prominent clergymen who visited the DPRK.
However, the journal keen on building up anti-DPRK public opinion said that hundreds of thousands of Christians, more than tens of times the number of members of the Korean Christian Federation, are subject to suppression.
This shows well what a clumsy political farce the anti-DPRK diatribe is.
The base fabrication indicates that the U.S. religious circle plays into the hands of politicians in power and betrayed the basic spirit of religion and went astrayed.
This proves that the U.S. religious circles fell victim to the U.S. administration's hostile policy toward Korea and that religion is being suppressed in the United States.
It is to be regretted that some U.S. religious circles are reduced to a political plaything and a means of interference in other countries.
The U.S. religious circles should feel ashamed of the recent anti-DPRK diatribe and no longer play the role of a political puppet.

U.S. backing to Japan under fire

Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) -- Japan refuses to redeem its criminal past because of the U.S. support and patronage, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary. It says:
The United States is egging Japan on to evade the settlement of its past, a big headache in the international community.
The U.S. dastardly act of defending Japan's past crimes betrays the mean double standards of the U.S. human rights and self-exposes that the U.S. is a despicable human rights abuser.
The U.S. is zealously instigating Japan to evade the responsibility for redeeming its past and launch military aggression overseas. Lurking behind this is a sinister intention. It seeks to use Japan as a shock brigade for its adventurous military action to stifle the DPRK in a bid to put under its control the Korean peninsula, a key front for realising its strategy for world domination, and attain its aim with ease.
The DPRK can not but warn Japan against currying favour with the U.S. to sidestep the issue of redressing its past. If Japan launches reinvasion bereft of the sense of being guilty of its past, it will face irretrievable destruction.
The U.S. and Japan should face up to the trend of the new century and refrain from doing such mean act.

Meetings held in Japan to hear testimonies

Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) - A meeting for thinking of and recollecting the Japanese war victims in the Asia-Pacific region, a protest meeting for thinking of and recollecting the DPRK war victims and a meeting to hear testimonies for peace were held in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo of Japan from August 7 to 11. At the meetings speakers vehemently condemned the Japanese government's unreasonable behavior of blocking the entry into Japan of a delegation of the DPRK measure committee for demanding compensation to "comfort women for the army" and the victims of the pacific war which was supposed to participate in meetings to hear testimonies to the Japanese imperialists' forcible drafting in the past.
And testimonies of former Korean "comfort women for the army" and victims of the forcible drafting were introduced by video show and cameraman Takashi Ito delivered a report on the investigation conducted into the damage done to Korea by the Japanese imperialists.
Meetings respectively adopted a resolution, statement and appeal.

Anecdote about Kim Il Sung

Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) -- It happened in June Juche 64 (1975) when President Kim Il Sung visited an East European country. Learning that the president was well versed in agriculture, the leader of a political party in the country praised him as a veteran farmer. He asked the president when he got mastery of farming method.
The president thanked him for describing him as such. He said that a statesman can pursue correct politics only when he becomes a good smelter at an iron works, a fisherman at sea and a veteran farmer on a farm.
There is another anecdote about a lot of cement saved.
In May Juche 59 (1970) there arose an issue of paving with concrete tens of kilometers-long waterway as the construction of a power station entered its final stage.
Informed of this, the president said the tunnel is not fit for working inside it and, therefore, smoothing its surface even without paving as required by the established technology would suffice if the quality of rock permits and it meets the technological need.
Afterwards, officials found that the introduction of the new construction method saved 140,000 tons of cement.
It happened during the president's field guidance to Kyongsong county, North Hamgyong Province, in May, Juche 46 (1957). On a farm he was told that pigs were bred with grass found in abundance there.
    The president asked its name.
A farmer told him that the plant was called "eveing-primrose" as it bloomed only at night.
On hearing this, the president wrote down the name of the plant on his handbook, saying that the people are his teacher and so he always mixes with them.
