Rodong Sinmun on DPRK-U.S. negotiation

pyongyang, August 7 (KCNA) -- The United States is recently spreading the rumour that the DPRK-U.S. negotiation fails to proceed due to the DPRK, regarding the "resumption of dialogue" between the DPRK and the U.S. In this regard Rodong Sinmun today says in a signed commentary:
We cannot but clarify our principled position once again.
Our position is that if the U.S. wants the DPRK-U.S. negotiation, it should be held on an equal footing on the basis of the principle of independence and impartiality.
If the U.S. seeks to hold dialogue on the premise of "verification" and "inspection" of our "nuclear and missile" issue and "reduction of conventional armed forces," we will never comply with it.
The new U.S. administration has an ulterior intention to use the DPRK-U.S. dialogue as a lever to bring pressure to bear on the DPRK.
It is our invariable position to approach good will with good will and respond to a hard line with a super hard line.
If the Bush administration has a real intention to hold dialogue with us, it should drop its hostile policy toward us and accept our fair and aboveboard proposal for dialogue.
From our invariable principled position we will watch the attitude of the new U.S. administration toward the "resumption of dialogue."

U.S. troops' pullback from S. Korea called for

pyongyang, August 7 (KCNA) -- A master key to removing the root cause of a war and ensuring lasting peace on the Korean peninsula is the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from South Korea, says Minju Joson today in a signed commentary. It goes on:
Lasting peace has not yet been achieved and unstable situation continues on the Korean peninsula although nearly half a century has passed since the signing of the Korean armistice agreement. It is ascribable to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK and its forces' occupation of South Korea which militarily backs the policy.
The U.S. is now left with no justification to keep its troops in South Korea any longer, given that an agreement on non-aggression and the June 15 Joint Declaration were signed between the north and the south of Korea, the Cold War came to an end and the former soviet union disappeared from the international arena.
If the U.S. drops its hostile policy toward the DPRK, agrees to replacing the armistice agreement by a peace agreement and pulls its forces from South Korea, it is possible to ensure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and create an atmosphere whereby to achieve national reunification by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation.
If the U.S. truly wishes peace and reunification of Korea, it should earnestly respond to the proposal for signing a peace agreement with the DPRK and clarify its will to pull its forces out of South Korea.

Independent national reunification called for

pyongyang, August 7 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation is responsible for settling the issue of national reunification, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. The article goes on:
The issue of Korean reunification should be settled independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation responsible for it.
It is because the country's reunification is the job for the Korean nation and a cause to be carried out by the nation itself. The issue belongs to the Korean nation as it is related to its destiny. It is, therefore, quite natural for the Korean nation to be responsible for settling the issue.
The Korean nation should be responsible for the national reunification also because it is the nation's internal issue related to its sovereignty.
It is the Korean nation's internal issue of reunifying its territory divided by the outside forces and relinking its blood ties severed by them and establishing national sovereignty throughout Korea. The internal issue of a nation pertains to its right of self-determination. Every nation has the right to independently carve out its destiny according to its own requirements and will, fully responsible for the destiny.
It is the Korean nation who is undergoing misfortune and pain due to the division and it is, therefore, the Korean nation who wishes national reunification with vital interests in it.
It is none other than the Korean nation who has strength to carry out the cause of national reunification and it is also the Koreans who will live in a reunified land.
The Korean people alone can be responsible for national reunification as a driving force of it.
The reunification of our country is an undertaking for the Korean nation itself and it can be achieved only by the driving force of the nation.

Japan's unwarranted attitude assailed

Pyongyang, August 7 (KCNA) -- A press conference was held at the People's Palace of Culture here today to accuse the Japanese authorities of unreasonably refusing to allow the entry into Japan of a delegation of the DPRK measure committee for demanding compensation to "comfort women for the army" and the victims of the pacific war to participate in meetings to hear testimonies to the past crimes related to the Japanese imperialists' forcible drafting. At the press conference Hong Son Ok, chairperson of the committee, issued a statement denouncing the Japanese authorities for barring the delegation from participating in the meetings.
According to the statement, the delegation of the committee made up of victims to the past crimes related to the Japanese imperialists' forcible drafting and sexual slavery by the old Japanese army, and their protectors and those concerned was supposed to take part in the meetings to hear testimonies of victims of the DPRK to be held in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and other places of Japan in early August at the invitation of citizens' organizations of Japan for demanding postwar compensation.
But the Japanese authorities reportedly decided to refuse to permit the entry of the delegation into Japan for fear that its participation might turn the meetings into a platform denouncing prime minister Koizumi's projected visit to Yasukuni Shrine.
This means the Japanese reactionary ruling quarters' admittance of their unjust moves to evade the past liquidation and militarize Japan as they are becoming a target of strong protest of the world including those Asian countries that fell victim to its aggression. It also reveals before the international community how immoral the Japanese government is and how closed and chauvinist Japan is, the statement said, and went on:
If the Japanese authorities calculate that their dastardly refusal to permit the delegation's entry into Japan would prevent the unethical crimes committed against the Korean people in the past from being disclosed before the world and hold in check the just activities of the Japanese progressive forces demanding the liquidation of the past, they are seriously mistaken.
The committee strongly denounces the Japanese government's behavior as an unpardonable insult to the past victims of Korea, a grave challenge not only to all the Koreans but to justice and human conscience and an undisguised hostile act against the DPRK.
After the statement was issued, answers were given to questions put by reporters.
The press conference was addressed by victims to the Japanese imperialists' crimes in the past.
Kwak Kum Nyo, a victim related to the "comfort women for the army", condemned the Japanese government's refusal to allow the entry of victims into Japan as an unpardonable insult to her and all the victims related to the "comfort women for the imperial Japanese army" and another human rights violation.
An Song Duk and Choe Ik Chon, victims to the forcible drafting, bitterly denounced the Japanese government's unwarranted attitude, saying that the miserable slave labor forced upon them was sufferings not only they but all the Korean people underwent under the Japanese imperialists' military occupation and colonial rule they will surely force the Japanese government to make due apology and compensation for Japan's inglorious past.
