KCTU calls general strike

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions went on a general strike on July 5 in demand of a stop to the suppression of workers and restructuring, etc., according to Seoul-based Radio No. 1. The KCTU clarified that the general strike is participated in by at least 100,000 unionists of over 80 workshops across South Korea.
    Earlier on July 4, Tan Pyong Ho, chairman of the KCTU, called a press conference at Myongdong cathedral where a hunger-strike is under way under the strict watch of police.
    At the conference he declared that the organization would go on a general strike from July 5 as scheduled.
    The general strike would be participated in mainly by those under the federation of metal industrial workers unions and the federation of chemical fibre industrial workers unions, he said, adding: More than 10,000 of over 20 workshops would boycot their work by holding general meetings, the federation of democratic taxi drivers' unions by discontinuing taxi service for 6 hours while teachers of the "national teachers' union" would join in the strike by leaving work early.
    The organization declared its plan to open big meetings with the attendance of more than 70,000 people in over 20 places including Jongmyo Park in Seoul on July 5 and rallies in 16 localities on July 6 and general meetings of unionists and demonstrations in 17 regions on July 7.


Film shows on Kim Il Sung's revolutionary history

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- Documentary and feature films dealing with the revolutionary history and immortal revolutionary exploits of President Kim Il Sung are on show at cinema houses and other halls in different parts of the country on the occasion of his 7th death anniversary. Among them are "our people's honour of holding the great leader in high esteem," "they were always together for the sake of people", "The Great Life in 1994," "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung Is Immortal" and other documentary films showing the greatness of his ideology, leadership and traits.
    Feature films include "Star of Korea," "The Sun of the Nation" and "Forest Sway" representing the revolutionary history of the president.


Remember-Kim Il Sung Preparatory Committee formed in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- The Jonnam preparatory committee to remember President Kim Il Sung was inaugurated in Kwangju, South Korea, on June 24 on the occasion of his 7th death anniversary, according to Seoul-based Voice of National Salvation. Present at the inaugural meeting were representatives from all walks of life in South Jolla Province including workers, peasants, students, professors, journalists, artistes, dissident figures and activists.
    The meeting set the period from June 28 to July 8 to remember Kim Il Sung and declared its plan to hold multifarious events such as remember-Kim Il Sung meetings to present poems and songs and publication of booklets in this period.


Military attaches' corps visits Korean Revolution Museum

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- The military attaches' corps here visited the hall "the leader and comrades-in-arms" of the Korean Revolution Museum yesterday on the occasion of the 7th death anniversary of President Kim Il Sung. Yan Jiangfeng, military attache of the Chinese embassy here, who is doyen of the military attaches' corps, said that the visit to the museum provided them with an opportunity to know well about the deep love and trust shown by President Kim Il Sung and supreme commander Kim Jong Il for the revolutionary comrades.

DPRK shooters come first at Asian trap shooting championships

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- DPRK men and women shooters gave a good account of themselves at the Asian trap shooting championships for 2001 ongoing in Bangkok, according to a news report. Pak Nam Su, Ra Sang Uk and Ri Myong Son scored 347 points to place first in the men's team skeet shooting medal event.
    Pak Nam Su took the second place in the men's single skeet shooting medal event and Pak Jong Ran the third in the women's single skeet shooting medal event.


Reunification festival of Koreans in Americas held

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- A reunification festival of Koreans in Americas for the implementation of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration was held in Washington D.C. on June 16. At the festival Ri Haeng U, president of the American union for independence, democracy and reunification, made an opening address, which was followed by speeches and congratulatory speeches of representatives from all walks of life. Noting that it is the historic duty for all members of the nation to implement the north-south joint declaration, the speakers called on the compatriots in Americas to pool efforts for reconciliation, cooperation, independence and reunification.
    An appeal to the compatriots in Americas was adopted at the festival.
    The appeal said that the joint declaration promises the future of a reunified prosperous country where the 70 million fellow countrymen will live in harmony. It called upon the compatriots in Americas to positively solidarize with the national movement for the implementation of the declaration.
    A statement to the U.S. government was made public at the festival.
    The statement said: the U.S. government should support and respect the north-south joint declaration, opt for normalizing relations with the DPRK at an early date, promote dialogue with the DPRK for the sincere implementation of the DPRK-U.S. joint communique and help toward peace on the Korean peninsula.


Anti-U.S. struggle of S. Korean students

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- The 29th-term general student council of patriotic Hanyang, the 17th-term bright fellow federation of patriotic Hanyang, student council of patriotic Hanyang for Juche-oriented life and science and other students organisations put forward anti-U.S. slogans, according to a news report. Slogans called for struggling against the U.S. "Missile Defence" system, opening to the public the truth behind the massacres of civilians during the June 25, 1950 war and the Kwangju uprising in 1980 and making apology and compensation for them.
    Slogans also demanded the pullout of the U.S. troops from South Korea and the abolition of the "Security Law."


Withdrawal of U.S. forces from S. Korea urged

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- The Peruvian committee for supporting the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea issued a statement on June 25 on the occasion of a month of international solidarity with the Korean people. The statement said that the victory in the fatherland liberation war half a century ago was a historic event in which the Korean people repulsed the aggression of the imperialist allied forces and defended their sovereignty and dignity.
    It strongly demanded that the U.S. immediately and unconditionally withdraw its military personnel and equipment from South Korea before it sustains a defeat again in korea.
    Meanwhile, solidarity meetings were held in Guinea, Poland and Austria.
    At the meetings speakers noted that the brilliant victory of the Korean people and people's army in the last Korean War is the fruition of President Kim Il Sung's outstanding Juche-based war method and wise leadership.
    The U.S. should not raise a hue and cry about "missile threat" from North Korea but drop its hostile policy towards the DPRK and pull its troops out of South Korea at an early date, they said.
    They extended firm solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.


Anniversary of Korean revolutionary army observed

    Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 71st anniversary of the creation of the Korean revolutionary army by general Kim Il Sung. He created the Korean revolutionary army, the first armed contingent of Korean communists and a political and para-military organization for preparing an anti-Japanese armed struggle. At an inaugural ceremony he underscored the need to build the hardcore force for the armed struggle through positive political and military activities and secure weapons necessary for the armed struggle.
    He called for making thoroughgoing preparations for the organized anti-Japanese armed struggle by accumulating military experience and firmly uniting broad popular masses.
    Under his wise leadership the KRA rapidly gained in scope and strength and core elements were built up to found standing revolutionary armed forces. activities were conducted in various places to obtain weapons in order to equip the kra soldiers with them. After organizing the KRA he formed various armed groups to dispatch them to various regions.
    The armed groups conducted bold activities in different places.
    A mass foundation for the armed struggle expanded and rich experience was accumulated and a noble revolutionary spirit created to found revolutionary armed forces thanks to vigorous political and military activities of the KRA.
    On this basis he founded the anti-Japanese people's guerrilla army on April 25, Juche 21 (1932), declaring an all-out war against the Japanese imperialists.


Kim Jong Il sends message of sympathy to Russian President

   Pyongyang, July 6 (KCNA)-Leader Kim Jong Il sent a message of sympathy to Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin today. The message reads:
    Upon hearing a very sad news that all the crew and passengers of a russian airliner were killed in its crash in Russia on July 3, I express deep sorrow to you and, through you, to the Russian people and the bereaved families of the deceased.
    I sincerely hope that you will master your sorrow and register a success in your responsible work for the prosperity and peace of the Russian people
