Friendly meeting with Lao embassy officials

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- A friendly meeting was held on the DPRK-Laos friendship Taewon co-op farm yesterday on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the foundation of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Invited there were Lao ambassador to the DPRK Khamkheng Sayakeo and staff members of the embassy here.
The vice-chairman of the Korea-Laos Friendship Association and officials concerned were among those present there.
After seeing the performance given by art circle members of the farm, the participants deepened feelings of friendship, conversing and singing with each other.

More than 150 espionage flights

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- The U.S. perpetrated at least 150 cases of aerial espionage on the DPRK with various types of strategic and tactical reconnaissance planes on different missions in November, according to military sources.
The cases of aerial espionage by high-altitude strategic reconnaissance plane U-2 numbered more than 60 and those of aerial espionage by RC-135 and E-3 from overseas bases over 10.

North-targeted field mobile exercise

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun here today in a signed commentary blasts the South Korean warmongers for getting ever more frantic in their war moves.
They staged a week-long field mobile exercise under the simulated conditions of an actual war by mobilizing the "Paekgol" (skeleton) unit of the army from November 22.
Its objective was allegedly to repel someone's all-out attack.
On November 29 the "air force operation command" in South Korea held a war confab with brass-hats of the three services of the "ROK" army, those concerned of the U.S. air forces in South Korea and the South Korean airlines attending.
    The commentary says:
They claimed that they "rounded off war preparations" through the field mobile exercise staged with a ballyhoo about "measures to cope with the situation in the early stage of war."
This goes to prove that their preparations for a preemptive strike against the north have reached the stage of completion.
The warmongers clamored about measures for survival at the early stage of war when they staged the exercise by mobilizing the "Paekgol" unit. It is ridiculous and foolish of them to think that they can survive through a preemptive strike against the north.
We love peace but we will not show any mercy to the aggressors. It is the will of the people's army and people of Korea to deal merciless blows to those who make a preemptive attack till they are wiped out to the last man.
If the warmongers ignite a war in the end, misjudging their counterpart, they will meet a miserable destruction.

Yun Song Sik interviewed

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Yun Song Sik, permanent member of the Consultative Council of Former South Korean Politicians in the North for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification, was interviewed by KCNA yesterday on the first anniversary of his defection to the DPRK.
To him the past one year was a period after he came over to brightness from darkness, he noted, and went on:
The DPRK which is accumulating national wealth in the spirit of independence, self-sustenance and self-reliance in defence is the brightest land.
South Korea, though seemingly gaudy, is just the dark land in which everything is swallowed by others and foreign things rule the roost.
He stressed he felt down in his heart that the building of a powerful nation in the DPRK is not just a slogan but is already being carried into practice under the wise leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

KCNA on South Korea's "engagement policy"

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- The South Korean chief executive during his recent southeast Asian junket peddled the "engagement policy towards the north" and solicited "support" for it. Upon return home he let loose a spate of piffle that the policy was supported by "somebody."
This rubbish talked by him is nothing but a ridiculous attempt to improve his image at any cost by prettifying the "engagement policy," his policy of inter-Korean confrontation which has been denounced by Koreans and foreigners.
That was why he solicited "support" for the "engagement policy" during his junket, repeating his incoherent remarks about it saying "the stability and peace on Korean peninsula" is essential for the peace and security in East Asia.
It is universally known that the "engagement policy" is a confrontation policy aimed to lead someone to "reform and opening" and swallow him up and this brings nothing but a war in the end.
It is an undeniable fact that the peace and stability on the Korean peninsula have always been threatened by the U.S. forces' presence in South Korea and the South Korean authorities' "engagement policy," a confrontation policy and war policy has put them into a more serious situation.
It is the height of impudence for the South Korean chief executive to have vociferated about the "engagement policy," while talking about "the stability and security on the Korean peninsula."
The history has a record of what fiery speeches he made about the democratization of the South Korean society and Korean reunification when he was an opposition leader in the past. It is closely watching how he has denied what he asserted in the past and how he backed down on his promise made to the Korean nation.
The South Korean chief executive is well advised to prudently behave before history and nation.

S. Korean rulers hit for developing long-range ballistic missile

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- A press conference was held at the Pyongyang mission of the National Democratic Front of South Korea on Tuesday as regards the South Korean authorities' ever more intensified moves to develop long-range ballistic missiles.
Chief of the mission Pak Kwang Gi, addressing the press conference, said that the missile development is an undisguised hideous act of plunging the fellow countrymen into a holocaust of nuclear war and an unpardonable crime to lay one more serious obstacle in the way of peace on the Korean peninsula and peaceful reunification.
The U.S. and the Kim Dae Jung group are well advised to act with discretion, mindful of irrevocable consequences of their reckless anti-north confrontation and war preparations, he said, and went on:
The Kim Dae Jung group should stop the wildcat missile development and immediately step down, as unanimously demanded by the people.

Korean book, photo and handiwork exhibition opens

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- A Korean book, photo and handiwork exhibition opened at the Senegal state art exhibition on Nov. 22.
On display are famous works of the President Kim Il Sung and Marshal Kim Jong Il and photos showing their immortal feats and books, photos and handiwork showing the successes of the Korean people in the drive to build a powerful nation.
After speeches were made at the opening ceremony, the participants looked round the exhibition hall.
The ceremony adopted a message of greetings to Kim Jong Il.

U.S. and S. Korean rulers warned of severe punishment

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed commentary denounces the United States and the South Korean rulers for their intensified moves to stifle the DPRK.
They agreed to "strengthen the cooperation system against the DPRK" at the "annual security consultative meeting", thus fully revealing their attempt to invade it. And U.S. Defense Secretary Cohen went so far as to let loose such ultimatum-like outburst as the DPRK should choose between "cooperation" and "confrontation".
    The commentary goes on:
They have disclosed their attempt to invade the DPRK, a clear indication that they are going to ignite another Korean war at any cost.
Whenever the DPRK-U.S. talks were under way, the United States talked about "high-level talks" with the DPRK, clamoring about "guarantee of peace and security" on the Korean peninsula. But behind the scene of the talks it staged war maneuvers targeted against the DPRK.
It is the consistent stand of the DPRK to return dialogue for dialogue, war for war.
Our strike against the aggressors will be merciless and there is no room in the world for them to escape from it.

Foiling of Japan's design for overseas aggression called for

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a by-lined article calls on the Asian people to pool their efforts to decisively foil the Japanese reactionaries' design for overseas aggression and defend peace and security in Asia.
    It says:
The Japanese reactionaries make no scruple of seeking to realise their design for overseas aggression, taking advantage of the situation where the balance of forces has been upset on the international arena.
Gone beyond its limit is the move of the Japanese reactionaries to carry into practice their vaulting ambition for reconquest in pursuance of the U.S. aggressive policy toward Korea and Asia.
It is essential for peace and security in Asia and world peace to torpedo their moves for overseas aggression.
It is necessary not to connive at even the slightest military action of the Japanese reactionaries but foil it in time. There should be heightened vigilance against what they call "military infiltration" and "threat" to Japan.
Their loudmouthed "military infiltration" and "threat" are nothing but an excuse for overseas aggression.
A tough countermeasure should be taken against the military cooperation between the U.S. and Japan.
The military tie-up and cooperation between Japan and the U.S. under the pretext of "peace and security" and "military equilibrium" in Asia are aimed at Asian aggression.
Through this cooperation both Japan and the U.S. seek to achieve their aggressive purpose by use of each other's military forces.
Japan's nuclear armament should not be allowed on any account.
The Japanese reactionaries have singled out nuclear armament as a most powerful means of realizing their ambition for overseas aggression.
One should not harbor any expectation or illusion about Japanese militarism but fight against it to the last, the article stresses.

KCNA on S. Korean venal paper's "human rights" rhetoric

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- The "1st international meeting on human rights and refugees in North Korea" reportedly opened at a university of South Korea on Wednesday.
The tricksters of the ultra right-wing venal paper "Chosun Ilbo", manipulated by the South Korean authorities, invited some anti-communist maniacs to the meeting from different countries and let them talk nonsense.
This is a deceptive trick to cover up their despicable crimes and mislead public opinion only to be ridiculed by the world people.
As is universally recognized, South Korea, a colony of the U.S., is the worst graveyard of human rights in the world.
This is illustrated by the recently disclosed killings of civilians committed by the U.S. aggressor forces during the past Korean War and their spraying of defoliant over areas along the Military Demarcation Line.
The South Korean authorities have kept behind bars for scores of years POWs of the Korean People's Army, who should have been repatriated to the north in accordance with the Korean Armistice Agreement and the international law. Not content with this, they still detain them in South Korea, refusing to send them back to their hometowns in the north. This inhumane act is inviting strong condemnation by the whole nation and humankind as it is an inexcusable crime against humanity.
Such being the situation, the "international meeting" on someone's ""human rights issue" is under way in South Korea.
This is a mockery and insult to human conscience and as shameless an act as a thief crying "stop the thief".
It is as clear as noonday that the "human rights" rhetoric made in such graveyard of human rights as South Korea is nothing but caws of a crow.
What merits serious attention as regards such a farce going on in South Korea is that the anti-communist venal paper Chosun Ilbo is taking the lead in never-ceasing anti-DPRK smear campaign.
The venal paper, far from apologizing for its criminal anti-DPRK diatribe while functioning as the "security planning board in charge of the press," keeps slandering the DPRK in the service of the "intelligence service." It must be mindful that its anti-DPRK smear campaign will bring nothing good to it.
The South Korean authorities engage themselves in the anti-DPRK smear campaign by use of Chosun Ilbo and through what they call "international meeting." If they think they can escape from public denunciation of the criminal atrocities they have committed against the nation, they are seriously mistaken.
They should make an apology for their crimes of worsening the inter-Korean relations and barring national reconciliation and unity and discontinue the mucky smear campaign at once.

Discussed at the talks were issues of improving relations between the DPRK and Japan and realising bilateral exchange in various domains as well as humanitarian issue.
Both sides had identical views that bilateral relations should be normalized at an early date. They manifested their positions.
The WPK side said its position concerning the DPRK-Japan relations is clear and remains unchanged. If Japan honestly apologizes and compensates for the immeasurable misfortunes and disasters it inflicted on the Korean people in the past and renounces its hostile policy toward the DPRK, the DPRK will make friendly approach to Japan, one of its neighbors, and then the abnormal relations between the two countries will be improved, it added.
The Japanese side expressed apology and repentance for Japan's colonial rule over Korea and said it is a major task to improve the relations between the two countries that have been abnormal since World War II.
The Japanese side manifested its position to put an end to the abnormal relations through negotiations without conditions and improve them.
The WPK side said "missile launch" and "abduction" are words unfriendly and hostile toward the DPRK. The words do not sound good for the two peoples and will only aggravate their relations, it stressed.
There are good examples of cooperation between the two countries in the settlement of humanitarian issues, the two sides noted, and called for settling such issues through negotiations between red cross organisations of the two countries in the future, too.
The two sides emphasized that negotiations should begin soon to settle within this century the unhappy things that have occurred in this century.
They had identical views that talks for diplomatic relations between the two countries should be resumed without delay so that bilateral relations may be improved.
The talks proceeded in a sincere, good atmosphere.

In his speech at the dinner, Tomiichi Murayama said he thought it was important for Japan and the DPRK to have dialogue, though there are difficult problems in bilateral relations.
Pyongyang is a very beautiful city and gives deep impression, he said, adding that he imagined the day when many Japanese visit Pyongyang and see its beautiful sight and many Koreans visit Japan.
He hoped his delegation's visit to the DPRK would mark an occasion for Japan and the DPRK to become near and close countries.
In his reply, Kim Yong Sun said intergovernmental talks between the DPRK and Japan for the liquidation of the unhappy history of this century and normalization of bilateral relations should be resumed without any preconditions, that pending humanitarian issues be resolved through the red cross channel and that exchange be developed between political parties.
The Worker's Party of Korea will strive to make progress in the DPRK-Japan relations, he declared.
