Struggle for U.S. troop pullout
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly made public a statement on October 3 on the occasion of the first anniversary of the declared "Day of the Nation."
The statement said the declaration of "Day of the Nation" was a declaration of the vigorous struggle of the 70 million fellow countrymen in the north, south and abroad to reunify the country through great national unity without fail, always cherishing the fact that they are descendants of king Tangun's nation though they live separated from each other.
The struggle is gaining momentum to defend the sovereignty of the nation and reunify the country by the great unity of the whole nation, it noted, and said:
Though suffering from the temporary division in the 5,000-year long history of the nation, we have the great platform of national reunification and the united driving forces. So the reunification is sure to come true when we fight upholding the banner of national independence and patriotism.
We will unite ourselves firmly under the banner of national independence and great unity and do our utmost to get the U.S. Forces, sources of all evils, withdrawn and the "National Security Law" against reunification and nation, repealed.
Schoolchildren celebrate anniversary
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- An art performance was given at the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace on Thursday by those who had won prizes at a national schoolchildren's vocal, instrumental and dance solo contest to mark the second anniversary of the leader Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The numbers such as dance solo "Long Live Marshal Kim Jong Il" and male vocal solo "The Marshal Represents the World" vividly depicted the schoolchildren's boundless joy and happiness to have Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Paper on war preparations in S. Korea
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the South Korean authorities' criminal effort to kill fellow countrymen in concert with foreign forces.
Among the fund the South Korean authorities paid for the upkeep of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces in South Korea last year, the indirect fees amounted to 1,800 billion won.
They plan to import 110 sophisticated ground-to-ground missiles and uptodate sea observation and information systems from the united states with a colossal amount of money allegedly to cope with "threat" from the north.

WPK is invincible
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- Foreign political figures admired the Workers' Party of Korea for developing into an invincible revolutionary party which has struck roots deep among the popular masses and carrying on the socialist cause with credit.
Hannu Harju, chairman of the for peace and socialism-the Communist Workers' Party of Finland, said that the WPK which has struck roots deep in the hearts of the Korean people is enjoying absolute support from them for providing them with sovereignty, independence and national rights.
Angel Castro Lavarello, president of the national executive committee of the Left Revolutionary Union of Peru, noted that the WPK enjoys the highest authority in the world for its Juche idea, organizing ability and close relationship with the popular masses.
V. Tyulkin, first secretary of the central committee of the Communist Workers' Party of Russia, stressed that the WPK has convincingly led the struggle to defend and complete socialism under the leadership of the respected Kim Jong Il.

"Complete collection of Kim Il Sung's Works" vol. 28 published
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea publishing house brought out "Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works" vol. 28, a library of the great Juche idea, which carries famous works of the respected leader Kim Il Sung in chronological order.
The volume contains 22 famous works including historic speeches, concluding speeches and talks made by Kim Il Sung, while leading the Korean revolution to victory with his outstanding and tested leadership in each period of the revolutionary development, from October, Juche 50 (1961) to January, Juche 51 (1962).
Chinese Foreign Minister feted
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The North Hamgyong Provincial People's Committee hosted a reception on October 7 in honour of the Chinese Foreign Minister and his party.
Pak Su Gil, chairman of the committee, said in his address that North Hamgyong Province neighbouring with Jilin Province of China is adding luster to the history of Korea-China friendship, cooperating with Chinese comrades and helping each other at the time of hardships.
The Chinese people made great achievements in the struggle to build a modernized socialist country with self-reliance and working hard and to reunify the whole country in the past five decades under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, he said, and noted:

Repression of students in S. Korea
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities reportedly arrested Kim Thae Gyun, chairman of the general student council of a faculty of the science and technology board on the strength of the notorious "security law."
They issued a warrant of arrest in July and searched for him for the mere reason that he has been a deputy to the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils.
On October 6 they walked him away when he was in a sit-in in front of the student hall in protest against the repression of campus movement.
Monolithic unity of Korea lauded
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- Prof. of Catania University of Italy Amata, chief of the Catania branch of the Italian Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea, released a statement on September 27 in the countdown to the 2nd anniversary of the great leader Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and the 54th WPK birthday.
The statement said:
Today the international communist and labour movement is undergoing grave trials due to the persistent anti-socialist moves of the imperialists and betrayal of the contemporary revisionists. but I am convinced that the movement will surely emerge victorious, meeting their challenges.

Murder of South Koreans by U.S. troops
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist aggressors brutally massacred civilians not only in Yongdong, North Chungchong Province, and Masan, South Kyongsang Province, but also in Changnyong and Sachon, South Kyongsang Province, and Jochiwon, South Chungchong Province, in the summer of 1950, according to a report from Seoul.
The South Korean Ryonhap News on October 5 quoted residents in Yocho-ri, Changnyong-up, Changnyong county, as saying that a group of the U.S. imperialist aggression troops fired at citizens and burnt over 40 houses, leaving over 80 of them dead and fired shells upon the village in early august 1950.
Bombers of the U.S. imperialist troops strafed Jojang-ri, Konmyong-myon, Sachon on August 1, 1950, killing over 60 villagers and wounding over 20 others.
A radio of South Korea said that the U.S. imperialist aggression troops captured and killed over 30 civilians, passing by Jochiwon, South Chungchong Province, on July 11, 1950 and ordered South Korean soldiers to carry away the dead bodies, before disappearing.
It was disclosed by a survivor over 70 who was shot and wounded at that time.
Okhodong sanatorium
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The Okhodong sanatorium is located in the valley of Okhodong in Yaksu-ri, Sonchon county, North Phyongan Province.
The treatment is mainly done by mineral water which was discovered more than 500 years ago, combined with mud available in the tidal flat along the West Sea and traditional Korean medicines.

Nat'l meeting to celebrate Kim Jong Il's election as G.S. of WPK
Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The second anniversary of the leader Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea on October 8, Juche 86 (1997) is significantly celebrated in Korea.
His election is a political event of epochal significance in the development of the WPK and revolution.
A national meeting was held at the 6,000-seat theatre of the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang amid colorful functions being held.

Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Foreign Minister exchanged a message of greetings with the Chinese Foreign Minister on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and China.
Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun in the message expressed the belief that the traditional relations of friendship between Korea and China would strengthen in the common interests of the two peoples, and wished the Chinese people new success in the work for socialist construction with Chinsese characteristics and for the reunification of the whole country.
