Cuba's proposal for Olympic sponsorship supported

Pyongyang November 7 (KCNA) -- Cuba's proposal to host the 2008 Olympics was supported by Rodong Sinmun on September 6. A signed article of the paper said that the proposal was justifiable as it conformed to the basic idea of Olympics for peace and social progress worldwide and further development of physical culture and sports.
    The article went on:
The sports of Cuba is now taking a rightful place in the international arena. Cuba successfully hosted the Pan-American contests in 1991. Its experience shows that it has the capacity to hold the Olympics.
The United States turned to a mucky means to depreciate the achievements of Cuban sportsmen on purpose.
It is an anachronistic illusion for the imperialists to consider the sports arena of the world as their exclusive one.

She vowed to hold only the marshal in high esteem with cleanest conscience at all times and continue to add lustre to the honor of the country.

Program contest of university students

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Computer programming and machine-designing contests of university students are proceeding in the DPRK, drawing attention of academic circles. Participating in each contest which began in mid-August are more than 20,000 students.
Preliminary contests finished at universities in each Province. more than 700 selected students will compete at the national contests amidst great interest of teachers and students.
The national contests will begin here on Sept. 13.
The contests are on a very high level, which requires participants to be fully versed in over 200 varieties of programs and blueprints of machines.
The capacity of contestants strikes the experts with admiration. The programs worked out by them account for more than five pages in total.
The same is the case with the machine-designing contest at which the contestants are to design more than 70 machine parts, 300-odd related machine accessories and basic machines under different assembly plans.
They imagine the given questions without any draft drawing and directly feed them into computer and make blueprints by drawing straight lines and curve lines, circles, ellipse and other diagrams by pencil only.
The contests, part of practical education, are held annually as a process of regular school education in recent years.
According to Jo In Jun, the director of university guidance department of the Ministry of Education, every year the contests produce hundreds of competent technical personnel well versed in theory and practice.

KCNA on military demarcation line at West Sea of Korea

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The South Korean warhawks are letting loose a string of provocative remarks after a special communique of the general staff of the Korean People's Army on proclaiming the Military Demarcation Line at the West Sea of Korea was announced on September 2. The "Ministry of National Defence" and the "joint chiefs of staff headquarters" of South Korea, insisting on the brigandish "northern limit line", threatened that they "would take a strong retaliation against the north if it intrudes into the line".
This is an unpardonable downright challenge to the special communique of the KPA general staff.
The Military Demarcation Line at the West Sea of Korea which was set by us this time is a most just and absolute one which fully accords with the requirement of the Korean armistice agreement and the international law.
Nevertheless, the South Korean warhawks are insisting on their unilateral "northern limit line." This reveals their bellicose attempt to trigger off more incidents at the West Sea.
This is illustrated by the bellicose utterances of a spokesman for the "national congress for new politics" that if the north ignores the "northern limit line" it "would have to pay a dear price as it did in the past incident at the West Sea".
We clearly warn the South Korean warhawks once again that if they intrude into the military demarcation line at the West Sea of Korea proclaimed by the DPRK to commit provocations, we would exercise the decisive strong self-defence right by various means and methods.
The South Korean side will be held wholly responsible for all the consequences arising therefrom.
No one will survive within our self-defensive firing range.
The South Korean authorities must be aware of this and recognize the north-drawn military demarcation line at the West Sea of Korea without fail.

The unique continuous technical movement which could be performed only by her is now called "Kim Kwang Suk Movement" in the gymnastic circle.
Pak Yong Sun retained double championships by winning the 33rd and 34th World Table Tennis Championships held in Calcutta, India, in February 1975 and in Britain in April, 1977. She was the "world's queen of table tennis" and a flower of the nation.
