Kim Jong Il inspects poultry farm

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited a newly-built poultry farm.
    He was accompanied by secretaries of the WPK Central Committee Kim Kuk Thae and Kim Yong Sun, chairman of the Party Central Control Commission Pak Yong Sok and first vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee Jang Song Thaek and Choe Chun Hwang.
    The visiting party also included generals Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong, Col. General Ri Myong Su and other general officers of the Korean People's Army.
    Kim Jong Il looked round the inside and outside of the farm reminiscent of an advanced science research center and noted with great satisfaction that soldiers had successfully built the modern farm in a short span of time.
    The Worker's Party of Korea is determined to supply enough meat and eggs to the people, he said, and called for building another farm on the east coast and then such up-to-date stockbreeding centers throughout the country, in order to hand down a rich and prosperous socialist nation to posterity.
    He put forward important tasks to improve the nation's stockbreeding.
    He stressed the need to make effective use of the already built stockbreeding bases and radically increase the output of stock products.
    Grass-eating domestic animals should be raised extensively in mountainous Korea, he said. A national campaign should be conducted to breed easy-to-raise rabbits and goats in all parts.
    He urged all the farms to put production processes on a scientific and modern basis and adopt and breed larger numbers of superior animals characteristic of fast growth and heavy weight.
    He also called for building good feed bases, increasing the output of fodder crops, improving the technical level and skills of breeders and establishing a strict anti-epidemic system in stockbreeding.


Sojourn of S. Korean delegates in north

    Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The South Korean delegates of reunification patriotic organizations who participated in the grand pan-national reunification festival visited different places of the north.
    Advisor to the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) Ra Chang Sun and its youth delegate So Won Chol and delegates of "Jongukryonhap" (National Federation for Democracy and Reunification) Ri Song U, Pak Ki Su and Kang Hyong Gu, and delegate of "Hanchongryon" (South Korean Federation of University Student Councils) which represents the south headquarters of Pomchonghakryon Hwang Hye Ro visited king Tongmyong's mausoleum, the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and the Korean Central History Museum.
    They went round the Sinchon Museum in Sinchon county, South Hwanghae Province, which shows the massacre committed by the U.S. during the Korean War.
    They went to the tombs of 5,605 patriots, 400 mothers and 102 children to honor the memory of them.
    They looked round the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace, too.
    Delegates Ra Chang Sun, So Won Chol, Ri Song U, Pak Ki Su and Kang Hyong Gu went to Mt. Myohyang to look round the international friendship exhibition and tour several places.
    Hwang Hye Ro visited Kim Il Sung University and Kim Chaek University of technology.
    The delegates made an entry in the visitor's book at the places they visited.


DPRK will surely settle with accounts Japan

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- There is no change in our determination and will to settle accounts with Japan at any cost no matter how much water has flowed under the bridge, states Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary refuting the Japanese authorities' misinterpretation of the DPRK government's statement which clarified our principled stand on the relations with Japan.
    They were so foolish as to contend that its pressure upon the DPRK had a certain implication on it and it was willing to have sort of negotiations with Japan, the commentary notes, and goes on:
    It is the firm determination and will of the Korean people and people's army to settle accounts with Japan, their sworn enemy, and wreak their pent-up vengeance upon it.
    The Korean people can never get along without making Japan pay for their blood and giving vent to their grudge against it. The DPRK is the victim while Japan is the assailant.
    The victim is free to have a necessary option according to the attitude of the assailant.
    We will not remain a passive onlooker indefinitely to Japan which is refusing to admit its crimes and liquidate its past.
    The Japanese reactionaries must not misjudge our firm determination and will.


Data on "comfort women" disclosed

    Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun August 20 conveyed news of a recent disclosure of another evidence that Japanese aggression army forced Korean women to become sexual slaves, according to a news report.
    This was disclosed by a written testimony made by a high-ranking officer of the former Japanese army during the trial of war criminals held in china after World War II, the paper said, adding: It has recently been discovered in a public institution in Tianjin, China.
    The testimony said that the Japanese army made Chinese run "comfort stations" outwardly in Jinan, China, at the end of the Sino-Japanese War but, in actuality, they were managed and supervised by itself and that Korean women were sent to dangerous front areas as "comfort women" at the request of the army.


Hit for suppression of pro-reunification patriots

    Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The south promotion headquarters and the Seoul regional promotion headquarters for the grand pan-national pro-reunification festival issued statements separately on August 18 and 19 denouncing the South Korean authorities for cracking down on pro-reunification patriots, according to a news report.
    Noting that they are hell-bent on suppression of patriotic and democratic forces on charge of involvement in the August 15 Grand Pro-Reunification Festival, the statements said that this is nothing but a desperate effort of the present rulers to dampen the ardent desire of all the fellow countrymen for reunification and seek confrontation and the country's permanent division.
    Those who are cracking down on the people at the point of the bayonet, going against the current of history, will face self-destruction, they noted.
    They strongly demanded the release of all the arrested participants in the grand pan-national pro-reunification festival and an immediate withdrawal of the charges that the south headquarters of Pomminryon (the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification) and Hanchongryon (the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils) are "enemy-benefiting organizations" and the "policy of arresting delegates who visited the north."
    Urging the South Korean authorities to abolish the "National Security Law," dissolve the "Intelligence Service" and repeal the warrant of arrest for leading members of the south promotion headquarters, they renewed their determination to fight out till their demand is met.


Struggle of south headquarters of Pomminryon supported

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Delegations of regional headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) that participated in the grand pan-national pro-reunification festival on Aug. 20 before leaving Pyongyang sent a solidarity message to the south headquarters of Pomminryon as regards the struggle undertaken by chairman Kang Hui Nam and other members of the headquarters at Myongdong Cathedral in Seoul against the fascist repression of the pro-reunification patriotic organizations.
    The victory of the pro-reunification patriotic forces including the south headquarters in the struggle for justice is certain, though the fascist suppression by Kim Dae Jung's regime is something beyond human imagination, the message noted, and continued:
    Our overseas regional headquarters will breathe the same with you and voice a positive support to you.
    The message expressed the firm belief that the leading members of the south headquarters would emerge victorious in the on-going struggle by carrying forward the good tradition of the indomitable fight.


Maritime sports popularized

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Maritime sports have been popularized in Korea.
    Indoor swimming complexes, swimming pools and wading pools and swimming beaches in Pyongyang and throughout the country are crowded with people every day.
    Thousands of working people, school youth and children visit the swimming pool of the Changgwang Health Complex, the Mangyongdae and Munsu wading pools and the Panwol Islet Swimming Pool by the Taedong River side in Pyongyang.
    Korea set July-August every year as months of maritime sports in order to popularize maritime sports.
    Maritime sports is actively encouraged in Korea which is surrounded by seas on its three sides and abounds in rivers, streams and lakes.
    Many swimming pools and swimming beaches have already been built on riversides, lakes and seashores. Thousands of schools have swimming pools.
    In August working people, school youth and children do good exercises to get familiar with water and acquire various methods of swimming.
    During the period factories, enterprises and schools across the country organize dissemination of swimming and swimming competitions. Conspicuous there are taedong river-crossing competitions of school youth and children.
    School youth and children across the country are busy preparing for the swimming competition to be held in Pyongyang on the occasion of the Youth Day (August 28).


Songs in praise of great leaders

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Songs in praise of the great leaders are reverberating far and wide in the DPRK where the dynamic 2nd grand Chollima march is going on.
    Among them are "Long Live Generalissimo Kim Il Sung," "Our leader will always be with us," "Our Comrade Kim Jong Il" and "Commander of Korea."
    These are popular songs which fully reflect the Korean people's unbounded respect and reverence for the two great leaders who brought them genuine happiness and inspire them to break through difficulties today and perform new feats full of confidence and optimism.
    The DPRK is proud to have many songs eulogizing the leaders.
    The Korean people have keenly realized how miserable our nation was when it failed to have an outstanding leader.
    That was why Korean poets and composers considered it as an obligation on behalf of the times to create songs representing the fortune and pride of having the great leaders.
    These songs instilled pride and dignity into the Korean people.
    The immortal revolutionary paean "Song of General Kim Il Sung" was the first to resound through the liberated Korea.
    Singing the song, the Korean people created the history of building a democratic nation, defeated the U.S. who had boasted of being the "strongest" in the world and built a people's paradise on the debris after the war.
    The Korean people sang songs in each anal of the revolution praising the exploits of the President who led the revolution and construction to victory. Among them are "Cantata to Marshal Kim Il Sung," "Generalissimo Kim Il Sung is great leader of people" and "Song of sun will be immortal."
    Having the illustrious commander Kim Jong Il, the Korean people are singing more loudly songs in praise of him.
    "Song of General Kim Jong Il," a hymn of the times, is loved by them.
    Singing the song, the Korean people are getting over manifold difficulties and trials and turning out in the drive to build a powerful nation.
    Among the songs sung by the Korean people in praise of Kim Jong Il are "Comrade Kim Jong Il is our supreme commander," "Cantata to Comrade Kim Jong Il," "Fortune of Korea," "We will defend headquarters of revolution with our lives" and "Let's support our supreme commander with arms."


Brisk schoolchildren's study tour

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Schoolchildren's study tour and "June 2 camp" are brisk during the summer vacation.
    500 schoolchildren from senior middle schools of the country who set examples in their study and organizational life participated in the study tour.
    Mt. Myohyang is chosen for their study tour.
    During the tour they consolidate what they have learned at schools in combination with the reality and train their body and mind well. Their program includes visit to the international friendship exhibition and Myohyangsan History Museum, writing reading meetings and other activities and sightseeing and mountaineering to scenic spots, sports and amusement games, art activities and cooking competition.
    "June 2 camp" is also briskly organized by schools.
    It was on June 2, Juche 45 (1956) that General Secretary Kim Jong Il began camping in Chondong-ri, Sunan district, Pyongyang, in his middle school days.
    Students of senior middle schools in all provinces, cities and counties are visiting revolutionary sites and enjoying their life at children's union camps.


S. Korean organizations' appeal

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Committee for Struggle in Prison for the Repeal the "National Security Law" and the "Law-abiding Oath System" sent an appeal on August 4 to the South Korean prisoners of conscience, according to the South Korean newspaper Hangyore.
    The appeal demanded the release of all prisoners of conscience and wholesale "pardon" and "reinstatement" of them irrespective of religious belief, status and a law in force.
    It called for abolishing the "National Security Law," the "law-abiding oath system" and the "supervision system for the preservation of public peace" and withdrawing the charge that "Hanchongryon" (the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils) and Pomminryon (the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification) are "enemy-benefiting organizations."
    It also called for a struggle against the enemy of the 70 million Korean people the United States keen on war moves and economic pillage, and for the resignation of the anti-people, anti-democracy, anti-reunification sycophantic and treacherous "government" which betrayed the nation.


Japan's hostile policy towards DPRK denounced

    Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Political parties and politicians of different countries bitterly condemned Japan's hostile policy toward the DPRK.
    The secretariat of the Council of the Union of Communist Parties-the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in a statement on August 11, referring to the material damage inflicted by Japan on the Korean people during its rule over Korea for more than 40 years, denounced the Japanese ruling quarters for slandering the DPRK till now and scheming to impair its authority.
    The secretariat of the Council of the Union of Communist Parties-the Communist Party of the Soviet Union fully supports the DPRK proposal for resuming the DPRK-Japan talks for normalizing relations between the two countries, lambasting the Japanese ruling quarters' hostile policy toward the DPRK, the statement said.
    The Maurice Bishop Patriotic Movement of Grenada in a statement on Aug. 13 said that it is a fact clearly known to the world that the Korean people sustained immeasurable sufferings and misfortunes owing to the Japanese imperialists' occupation of Korea.
    Urging the Japanese authorities to behave in favour of peace in Asia and the rest of the world and in keeping with the common interests of the Korean and Japanese peoples, the statement affirmed the support to the Korean people in their struggle to defend their dignity and sovereignty.
    Rifaat Es-Said, general secretary of the National Progressive Unionist Party of Egypt, in a statement to the press on August 9 said that only the Japanese authorities have refused to liquidate their past though it is more than half a century since their defeat and the 21st century is at hand.
    The Korean people must get an apology and all-out compensation from the Japanese authorities for the past crimes, the statement added.


Folk game exhibition hall

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The folk game exhibition hall in the Korean Folklore Museum is visited by many people these days.
    More than 70 historical relics showing such folk games as martial art and development of physical strength, intelligence and skill, songs and dances are displayed well there.
    These folk games reflect the nation's history spanning 5,000 years and our ancestors' creative labour and their enormous efforts to defend their country.
    Archery, horse riding, Subakhoe martial art and wrestling, tug of war and seesaw, which are still popular among our people, and other folk games represent the wisdom, courage, strength and skill of the Korean nation.
    Also on display there are materials which suggest that folk games similar to such modern sports as football, basketball, handball and golf have been popular among our people since long ago.
    Historical relics and materials on such folk games for intellectual development as. Korean chess, Yut, Paduk, Koni displayed in the hall are well expressive of our ancestors' custom and emotion.
    Scores of historical relics on folk games including games accompanied by singing and dancing and children's sledging, top spinning and kite flying are exhibited in the hall according to seasons.
    All these relics on folk games are preserved as precious cultural heritage of our country.


Anti-U.S. struggle mounting

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Struggles for getting the U.S. military bases withdrawn are being waged across South Korea by a large number of organizations including the "headquarters of the Movement to Combat GIs' Crimes" and the "National Joint Measure Committee for Retaking the U.S. Military Bases, Our Land."
    Typical of them are a struggle of inhabitants in Tongduchon for removing a firing range from the U.S. military base, a Pusan citizens' struggle for removal of the U.S. military base, a Thaebaek inhabitant struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. military field for bombing drill, and a struggle of inhabitants in Jechon, North Chungchong Province, for the removal of the U.S. military base.
    Commenting on these struggles, Rodong Sinmun today says they are an eruption of the South Korean people's pent-up grudge and wrath on the U.S. aggressors, who have been inflicting disasters and misfortune upon them, lording it over South Korea for over a half century, and a righteous struggle to retake the lost territory and sovereignty.
    The U.S.'s occupation of South Korea is an illegal and brigandish act, the paper says, and goes on:
    The United States should renounce its anachronistic occupation policy and withdraw its troops and nuclear weapons from South Korea at once, as unanimously demanded by its people.
    It would be good for the U.S. itself.
    If the U.S. continues to maintain its aggression forces in South Korea, it will invite a stronger resistance of the angry people, whereby the forces will be disgracefully driven out after all.


DPRK Friendship Medal awarded to Germans

   Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Friendship Medal of the DPRK was awarded today to chief Norbert Vollertsen and member Francois Large of the office for the "Cap Anamur" Committee of Germany here for having displayed the noble spirit of internationalism.
    Present at the awarding ceremony were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Ri In Gyu, vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thomas Wulfing, representative of the interest section for the Federal Republic of Germany, and members of international organizations and non-governmental organizations who are staying in Korea for cooperation activities.
