Kim Jong Il goes round fish farm of KPSF

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il went round the fish farm of unit no. 1216 of the Korean People's Security Forces. He was accompanied by Ri Yong Mu, vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, KPA generals Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong and general officers. Included in the party was Jang Song Thaek, first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.
Kim Jong Il went round terraced fishponds one by one which depend on a stream of spring water flowing down from the heart of a mountain and acquainted himself with the fish culture in detail. He noted with great satisfaction that the employees of the fish farm have supplied lots of freshwater fishes to people and soldiers.
The officials and workers of the fish farm, he said, should put the fish culture on a scientific and technical basis to further increase fish production and, at the same time, make a rational and effective use of water to breed much more fishes of various species. After going round the fish farm, he proposed highly important tasks which will serve as a guideline in further developing the nation's fish culture.
Noting that our country has favourable conditions for fish culture as it abounds in rivers and lakes and resources of spring water suitable for raising such fishes of high quality as char and rainbow trout, he said only if officials carry on a well-organized work and make energetic efforts it is possible to produce a great deal of freshwater fishes with less cost. He underscored the need to build many new fish farms after surveying all places suitable for raising fishes including streams of spring water so as to breed fishes wherever there is water.
Kim Jong Il elaborated on increasing the efficiency of fish culture, establishing a system of food production and supply, intensifying scientific researches into fish culture and on introducing advanced method of fish breeding. He earnestly instructed all domains and units to raise fish in a nationwide movement and thus realize as early as possible what the President Kim Il Sung had wished so ardently in his lifetime to supply the people with more fishes.

Intention to continue "restructuring" declared

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The anti-social "government" of South Korea declared to its intention continue the murderous "restructuring" on May 2, according to a Seoul-based radio report. The "Ministry of Finance and Economy" betrayed this intention, announcing that the "basic economic policy" would be maintained. The continued "restructuring" means an increase of the jobless. Such intention to continue "restructuring" under the pressure of the International Monetary Fund, disregarding workers' existence, is a vicious challenge to their demand for vital rights.

Press conference at Polish embassy

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Mieczyslaw Dedo, charge d'affaires ad interim of the Polish embassy here, called a press conference at the embassy on Wednesday to mark the National Day of Poland. He said the first Polish constitution was adopted on May 3, 1791 and this day has been marked as the National Day in Poland. He referred to the aim and significance of the constitution. He also mentioned the situation and foreign policy of Poland and the bilateral relations between Poland and the DPRK.

South Korean workers' struggle supported

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea released a statement on Wednesday supporting the workers' struggle for right to existence and democracy, which is now going on across South Korea.
The statement said that the struggle, which is participated in by people from all walks of life, is an expression of their determination and will to gain vital rights and democracy through a massive resistance to the trusteeship of the International Monetary Fund and the anti-social misrule of the authorities.
It is natural that the South Korean workers and people have turned out in the struggle, the statement said, denouncing the authorities for their harsh repression of it. The South Korean rulers should stop their suppression of the just struggle of workers and other people at once and discontinue the murderous lay-off and "restructuring," the statement said.

Inter-Korean workers' football game to be held

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Representatives of the c.c., General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea and the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions had talks here on May 2, Juche 88 (1999) and agreed to hold a "north and south Korean workers' football game for reunification." The two sides decided to hold the "football game for reunification" in Pyongyang on forthcoming august 10 as the first step for solidarity and unity between workers in the north and south of Korea.
Both sides agreed to use a painted football on a Korean map as the official mark of the football game and call the game to be held in Pyongyang "football game of workers in the north and south for reunification" and the game in Seoul "football game of workers in the south and north for reunification" and set up a joint preparatory committee. It was also decided that next contest would be held in Seoul in August next year.

Japan's ambition for aggression goes beyond danger line

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries are getting more undisguised in the moves to realize their ambition for reinvasion on the plea of the "mysterious ships pursuit case," which was cooked up against the DPRK last March, according to news reports.
Japan's NHK broadcast on May 3 that the Japanese government instructed the defence agency, the maritime security agency and other relevant ministries and agencies to examine the 7-point provisions over the "case" including the building of inter-contact and -cooperation system and the maintenance of "capability to take counteraction."
Under this instruction those ministries and agencies decided to concretely examine such matters as establishing a rapid information exchange system, putting in motion coast guards of the "Self-Defence Forces," and stopping and checking vessels on sea by the "Maritime Self-Defence Force," it added.
On the same day Nihon Keizai Shimbun said that the defence agency decided to deploy two high-speed ships equipped with missiles at "MSDF's" Maizuru base in 2001 separated from north Korea by a strip of water in a bid to "counter mysterious ships." In such moves the Japanese reactionaries seek to expand the scope of "SDF's" military operation, modernize their overseas aggression forces and establish the same fascist wartime system as was during the war of aggression on the continent.
This shows that Japan's moves for reinvasion of the Korean peninsula have gone beyond the danger line to become a reality.

Japanese reactionaries' moves for overseas aggression

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries adopted legislation for the implementation of the "Guidelines for Japan-U.S. Defence Cooperation" in a bid to put into practice their ambition for overseas aggression they have long dreamt of.
Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun today says: The bills for the implementation of the "Guidelines for Japan-U.S. Defence Cooperation" were raced through the House of Representatives of Japan on April 27. The bills stipulate among other things that Japan shall expand the scope of its operation into any region outside its proper under the pretext of "cooperation with U.S. troops in emergencies in surrounding areas".
The "guidelines" is a document for aggression which defines joint military operations of the United States and Japan and the bills are for war. The Japanese reactionaries' passage of the bills is leading the DPRK-Japan relations to those between the warring parties. The reality urges everyone not to harbor any illusion about Japan but fight it out against Japanese militarism. As Japan is leading its relations with the DPRK to those between the warring parties, a showdown is bound to break out any time.
The Korean people and People's Army will wipe out all the Japanese reactionaries if they stage a comeback to Korea with arms in their hands. Then, the "unsinkable aircraft carrier" will no longer exist. The Japanese reactionaries are well advised to behave properly, deeply mindful of what they should choose between peace and war.

Useless and foolish smear campaign

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Now the South Korean authorities engage themselves in a vicious anti-DPRK smear campaign by letting the defectors to the south who committed crimes in the North Korea "testify" and "state" at the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a Washington Press Club.
Those who were taken to Washington for anti-DPRK smear campaign included Kang Chol Hwan, a grandson of an operative of the Metropolitan Police Office of Japan, who had been punished by law for espionage and sabotages against the DPRK, An Myong Chol who killed his father in conspiracy with his mother, Ri Sun Ok whose seizure of national property and corruption and dissipation had been brought to light and other criminals. In the anthropocentric socialist system of Korean style there is no place for such riffraff to live in.
The U.S. and the South Korean authorities let the riffraff devoid of human dignity and values slander the DPRK over the "human rights situation" based on false materials of their own making. Their anti-DPRK smear campaign is clear evidence of their awkward position.
The "reconciliation" and "dialogue" on the lips of the South Korean authorities, which synchronize with such a mucky anti-DPRK smear campaign, should never be tolerated because what they are talking is a shameless deception designed to fool the nation.
We will make them pay for their anti-DPRK smear campaign without fail. If they truly want dialogue and reconciliation and have an iota of national conscience, they should immediately stop the foolish anti-communist smear campaign harmful to the efforts for improved inter-Korean relations and national reunification.

Pivotal role of working class in building powerful nation

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The working class of Korea is creditably discharging its mission and duty as a pivotal force in the building of a powerful nation, says Rodong Sinmun today in an article. It goes on: The Korean working class is a pivotal force taking the lead in carrying out a far-reaching plan of the great leader Kim Jong Il to build a powerful nation.
The working class is the vanguard of the revolution who are in charge of the most difficult positions in the building of a powerful nation and arousing all the people to another grand Chollima march. As the working class is effecting a new great revolutionary upswing in work-sites with efforts to create unprecedented miracles and innovations, bright prospects are open for the building of a powerful nation.
A large number of factories and enterprises are turning to a blazing rush of activity thanks to the devoted services of the workers though they are pressed hard for everything. The way and style of work of the Korean people have changed beyond recognition, the people who have followed in the footsteps of the workers of the Songjin Steel Complex.
The revolutionary spirit that sets the hearts of all the Korean people afire is absolute and unconditional loyalty of the working class to the party and the leader. The spirit of the people in the struggle is the Kanggye spirit of the working class, the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude. No force on earth can arrest the struggle of the people imbued with such a spirit.

S. Korean people's struggle supported

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- A joint meeting of workers, farmers and students in Hamhung city was held on May 5 in support of the solidarity struggle of their South Korean counterparts. At the meeting speakers said that the South Korean authorities, upset by the struggle of people from all walks of life, have called all repressive tools out to merciless suppression of it. They said the struggle is sure to win, adding that all the working class, agricultural workers and students will always stand on the side of the South Korean people in the struggle.

Japanese reactionaries' war drills

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a commentary hits out at the Japan "Self-Defence Forces" (SDF) for planning ever more dangerous military drills targeted against the Korean peninsula. When the Japanese reactionaries made public a plan for major military exercises to be staged by Japan's ground "Self-Defence Force" by March next year, they described them as "defence drills" to cope with "threat" from the northern half of Korea. This is, however, a ridiculous farce, the commentary observes.
It continues: The United States and Japan are putting spurs to maneuverings to unleash a war of aggression on Korea and the plan for major military exercises is part of them. U.S.-Japan joint military drills are fraught with potential danger in their scale, offensive character and criminal aim. What should not go unnoticed is that the "SDF's" maneuvers hold a big proportion in the joint military drills. What merits a particular attention is maneuvers of the ground "SDF".
The original strategy suggested by the Japan "SDF" was to defeat the enemy in Japan proper, which was replaced by a new one in 1985 the aim of which was to wipe out the enemy at sea." it means the shift of battle fields to sea from Japan proper. The Japanese reactionaries consider the ground "SDF" to be the weakest link of their strategy. Hence, they have intensified the ground "SDF's" maneuvers in recent years.
The ground "SDF" built an exercise base in Hokkaido which has weather and topographical conditions similar to those of Korea and let units stationed in Japan proper undergo training there twice a year so as to get them familiar with the conditions of a real war in the Korean peninsula.
The situation is growing more tense on the Korean peninsula due to the criminal attempt of the Japanese reactionaries to launch a reinvasion. The DPRK is fully prepared to promptly frustrate any surprise preemptive attack of the enemy.

Patriotism and national reunification called for

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The banner common to the nation, the banner of great national unity, which is acceptable to anyone of the Korean nation is precisely the banner of patriotism, the banner of the reunification of the country, says Minju Joson today in a signed article.
The paper goes on: The patriotic spirit of the Korean nation and intrinsic national quality are a solid ideological basis of great national unity. If the tragedy of the division is not terminated, the nation will be heterogeneous and remain divided into the north and south for good. There is no more urgent and important task common to the nation for the Korean nation than to achieve reunification.
It is an important way of getting the whole nation united under the banner of patriotism, the banner of national reunification to establish a transparent outlook on the nation and preserve the national tradition of harmony and unity. In order to achieve great national unity and reunification, it is necessary for the fellow countrymen not to absolutes difference in ideology and system but to become reconciled and united with each other.
Only when ism and assertions are transcended on the road of the reunification of the country, can the reunification issue be settled in the common interests of the nation.
We can unite with anyone who aspires after the reunification of the country with national conscience though he did wrongdoings in the past. It is the invariable stand of ours to leniently treat those who are ready to contribute to the cause of reunification, sincerely repenting of their past wrongdoings, on the principle of not questioning their past.

Halt to S. Korean missile development official

Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) released a statement on Tuesday condemning the Kim Dae Jung group's test-firing of a new-type missile on April 10 at a comprehensive missile firing range on the west coast of Korea, a Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation said.
The statement said: The authorities test-fired this time a missile with a range of more than 300 km in violation of the "memorandum of understanding" signed with the United States, which allows the development of missile with a range of less than 180 km, thus inviting international criticism. The recent missile test-firing is very grave and dangerous, for it is aimed at increasing capabilities for war against the north.
While raising a hue and cry over the "missile threat" from the north following its launch of a satellite, the South Korean hawkish group begged the United States to invest the former with the right to develop missiles capable of striking at the areas north of Pyongyang. It has since stepped up in real earnest the clandestine development of medium-range missiles.
The Kim Dae Jung group at last test-fired a new-type missile as part of its stepped-up moves for missile development to serve the U.S. strategy for a war against the DPRK. Underlying it is its ulterior intention to bar popular sentiments from running towards the north that has won the world's admiration for its strong self-reliant defence power, tide over the ever-worsening "government" crisis and further tighten its military tie-up with the United States.
The rulers of the self-proclaimed "government for the people" should immediately stop the missile development and the United States should give up a ridiculous drama of feigning ignorance of this development and conniving at it. The NDFSK, together with patriotic-minded people of all walks of life, will wage a more dynamic struggle to build an independent new society free of outside forces, a reunified country, peaceful and prosperous.

Present there were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Worker's Party of Korea, and men of the press in Pyongyang and local areas.     He underscored the need for the men of the press to creditably play the role of a pacemaker and an educator in the efforts to consolidate the DPRK as an ideologically strong nation based on the indestructible unity and cohesion of the leader, the party and the masses.
State commendations were awarded to officials and men of the press of distinguished service at the meeting.
