Kim Jong Il visits Taehongdan county

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il gave personal guidance to Taehongdan county, Ryanggang Province, on October 1. In front of a monument to the history of the Taehongdan county integrated farm and a miniature farm sand table, he said the deserted, infertile county had turned into a fertile land and one of model units of socialist agriculture under the great leader President Kim Il Sung's clairvoyance and outstanding leadership. He then inspected the potato institute of the academy of agricultural science, Taehongdan power stations nos. 2 and 5 and other units before giving the county important tasks. He expressed great satisfaction with the solid material and technical foundation for increasing potato yield and urged the county to make a radical change in potato farming. He called for developing livestock breeding extensively. Priority should be given to the domestic animals that live mainly on potato, he added. He said the integrated farm should be built into a model communist farm where comprehensive mechanization is completed. He laid down the tasks and ways of completing the electrification at an early date. He noted with satisfaction that the county was striving to complete minor power stations that were under construction as soon as possible and supply electricity for heating the dwelling houses. He called for doing land management well. He said windbreak trees should be planted in larger numbers, the land be conserved and the roads and rivers be kept neat and tidy at all times. He urged the senior officials of the county to enhance their role.

Unprecedented anti-north confrontation racket

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities are inciting consciousness of north-south confrontation. They are reportedly examining a "plan" to furnish gas masks to each newly-built apartment on the pretext of coping with "north's chemical war." They said that they will step up a "law reform" on equipping each new flat with gas masks and that the authorities, institutions and organisations will give gas masks when tawarding prizes. This whirlwind of gas masks under the "government of the people" is unprecedented even under the preceding military dictatorship, to the consternation of people. The successive South Korean ruling quarters had employed every conceivable means to incite confrontation between the north and south. But they had dared not foster a fear of war among people so extremely as the present rulers do, vociferating about the fictitious "chemical war" by the north. This fully shows that the present ruling quarters of South Korea are fanatics of anti-communist confrontation who are surpassing their preceding fascist dictators and warmaniacs who do their utmost to round off preparations for war against the north. Their war hysterics against the north is reaching a perilous state. A few days ago, the chief executive of South Korea inspected a war exercise in the central sector of the front together with the military bosses and revealed a wild design to invade the north at celebrations of the "Day of ROK Army" held by ground force, air force, special combat units and mechanized units in Seoul on October 1. These facts show that the present "government" of South Korea is rushing headlong along confrontation and war. History and people will deal a sledge-hammer blow at the South Korean authorities who are taking a road of confrontation and war against the fellow countrymen in the north, fostering antagonism and enmity instead of an atmosphere of national reconciliation and unity.

North visit must be allowed

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- The DPRK council for the reunification of Tangun's nation in a statement on Friday denounced the South Korean rulers for blocking Tangun Taejonggyo believers and Buddhists of South Korea from visiting the north to participate in the events of the national foundation day which will be held at the mausoleum of King Tangun in suburbs of Pyongyang. The national foundation day is October 3 when Tangun built ancient Korea, the first state in the east. The Korean nation has traditionally held services in memory of Tangun and other events to mark the day. The statement said: How can national identity, and policy for the nation be expected from the South Korean authorities, who are clean indifferent to the proud history and tradition of the nation? They must allow conscientious-minded patriots, religionists and students of South Korea to visit the north for the reunification of the country and patriotism.

S. Korean Buddhists must be allowed to visit north

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the Korean Buddhist Federation published a statement on Friday denouncing the South Korean authorities for blocking the north visit of a delegation of the "Buddhist committee for promoting national concord" in South Korea. The statement said that if the delegation visits the north to see temples, openheartedly exchange views on the question of accelerating the reunification of the country and participate in a memorial service for King Tangun, the founder of the nation, it will be a good thing helpful toward great national unity, not a harmful thing. The South Korean authorities, however, blocked the delegation from visiting the north for the reason that if it takes part in the memorial service for King Tangun, it will be "politically used" by the north, the statement said, and went on: The memorial service for Tangun was held during the Japanese imperialists' occupation of Korea as well as in the feudal period. The vicious Japanese imperialist aggressors did not dare block the service. Nevertheless, the South Korean authorities are trying to obstruct the service, branding it as a political event. This shows that the "unification ministry" led by Kang In Dok has no soul of the Korean nation. By blocking the north visit of Buddhists, the South Korean rulers fully revealed their splittist stand and real intention to obstruct religious activities of buddhists, not respecting forefathers. With those left intact, national reunification, the cherished desire of the nation, cannot be achieved nor can cooperation and exchange between Buddhists be realized. The South Korean authorities must look straight at the aspirations of the fellow countrymen and the trend of the times, discard the concept of confrontation with the north and take the stand of alliance and reconciliation with the north.

No one can block DPRK's exercise of sovereignty

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the recent "talks" of U.S., Japanese and South Korean authorities in New York on the satellite launch of the DPRK. The news analyst says: At the "talks" they published a "joint statement" on their "joint action" against "missile threat" from the DPRK. This is an overt provocation and challenge to the DPRK. It has been confirmed that the artificial satellite launched by the DPRK is moving round the earth. The world recognizes our satellite launch. The U.S., Japanese and South Korean authorities, however, describe the satellite as "missile" that poses "threat" to them. This clumsy act reveals their vulnerability. Despite opposition at home and abroad, warmongers of the United States and Japan recently decided to promote joint studies for "theatre missile defence" in the wake of our satellite launch. This is a blackmail designed to prevent the DPRK from launching another satellite. We are neither frightened nor afraid, though. Pressure from dishonest forces can never bar the DPRK from continuing what is good for its sovereignty and interests. We will exercise our sovereign right to develop and launch an artificial satellite, when necessary, no matter what others may say.

50th anniversary of KNS marked

Tokyo, October 2 (KNS-KCNAS )-- A meeting took place in Tokyo on October 1 to mark the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean News Service (KNS) under the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). Present there were Chairman Han Tok Su and other senior officials of the Chongryon central standing committee, pressmen and officials of Chongryon. National flag order the first class was awarded to the bulletin "Korea News" and honorary titles, orders and medals to officials of the KNS. Han Tok Su in his congratulatory address said that since the foundation the KNS has energetically introduced and propagandized the undying feats of the great leaders President Kim Il Sung and Marshal Kim Jong Il on a worldwide scale including Japan and thus exalted their high authority and the honor of the country and honorably contributed to the cause of national reunification. Son Jin Hyong, director of the KNS, made a report at the meeting. A reception was given on the same day to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the KNS.

Dialogue for reunification should be developed

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today stresses the need to develop dialogue for national reunification. It is the consistent stand of the DPRK government to achieve the reunification of the country peacefully through dialogue and negotiation, the paper points out, and says: North-south dialogue is the only way for comprehensively expressing the will and desire of broad segments of society as well as the authorities of the two sides and fully reflecting them in the solution to the reunification question. Both parties to the north-south dialogue should trust and respect each other with honest desire for the reunification, and make sincere efforts to find commonness, putting aside differences with sincerity and tolerance. However, the South Korean authorities are now desperately hindering the dialogue while vociferating about "dialogue". They are stepping up arms buildup and military expansion in league with outsiders to stifle the north, their dialogue partner, and putting forth such anti-reunification, anti-north confrontation doctrines as "reciprocity" and "sunshine policy". Under this situation, any dialogue will bring about distrust and confrontation rather than the reconciliation and unity of the nation. Dialogue between the north and the south of the country should not reflect only the will of government authorities and specified class and strata. It should be a nationwide dialogue, a wide-range dialogue representing the will of all political parties, public organizations and people of all walks of life in a democratic way. We are ready to have dialogue and negotiation with parties, organizations and people in South Korea who earnestly want to reunify the country on the principle of national independence and great national unity.

Symposium on Taedonggang Culture

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- A symposium on Taedonggang Culture was held in Pyongyang on Friday. It was stressed at the symposium that historical circles of Korea recently defined the culture of Tangun's Korea, ancient culture developed in the basin of the River Taedong with Pyongyang at the centre, as Taedonggang Culture and declared it one of the five civilizations of the world. It was noted that Taedonggang Culture flourished in the latter half of the fourth millenium B.C. And enabled the most ancient state to appear and develop in the east. Speakers at the symposium said the main content of Taedonggang Culture is the mausoleum of King Tangun, the relics of ancient Korea in the basin of the River Taedong and culture inheriting them. They noted that the basin of the River Taedong is one of the cradles of humankind and the centres of primitive culture where ancient culture was developed. They cited relics, remains and documents discovered in the basin to point out that Tangun's Korea, the first ancient state in the world, was founded in the basin in the early 30th century B.C. They also explained that the basin is a cradle of ancient culture and the first ancient civilization in the world. They said the ancestors of Korea developed Sinji characters, Korea's unique national alphabet, from the beginning of King Tangun's Korea, thus marking an occasion of radical change in the development of Taedonggang Culture and greatly contributing to the development of the history of world civilization. They cited their studies of science, technology, architecture and tombs with mural paintings to prove that Koguryo culture which inherited the culture of ancient Korea based on Taedonggang Culture developed still further after Koguryo moved its capital to Pyongyang.
