Kim Jong Il's works studied abroad
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- "The Historical Lesson in Building Socialism and the General Line of Our Party," "On the Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building," "Socialism is a Science" and other works of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, have been disseminated and studied in foreign countries. the works carry his Juche-based theory on socialism.
Seminars, lecture meetings and reading sessions on the works were held on more than 1,200 occasions in various forms and ways in some 60 countries in recent five years.
The New Communist Party of Great Britain, the Construction Workers' Party of Benin, the Party for Unity and Progress of Guinea, and other progressive parties of different countries have designated Kim Jong Il's works as must books within their parties and made a deep study of them.
His ideological and theoretical exploits were highly praised by the General Secretary of the National Executive Committee of the Left Revolutionary Union of Peru, the General Secretary of the Party of the Congress for the Independence of Madagascar, the First Secretary of the Party of Communists of Belarus, the chairman of the Council of the Union of Communist Parties-the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and other prominent political, public and academic figures of different countries in press statements and press interviews.
His works were published in booklet by the Academia Publishing House of Cuba, the Paleya Publishing House of Russia, the Lao State Publishing House, the Printing Federation Publishing House of Peru and other renowned publishing houses of some 30 countries.
Overnight sit-in in S.Korea
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- More than 20,000 unionists of nine banks, including the commercial bank of South Korea, held a rally and staged an overnight sit-in from Sept. 28, demanding an immediate withdrawal of the authorities' unilateral "restructuring," according to a Seoul-based radio report.
The trade union side had negotiated on personnel reduction from the night of Sept. 28, but the bank side insisted on reducing personnel 33.3 percent till the end of the year, which infuriated unionists.
The authorities sent more than 2,500 police of 20 companies to disperse the strikers.
Anti-north war exercise in S. Korea =KCNA commentary=
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities September 28 staged an adventurous war exercise codenamed "practical drill for combined firing" in the central sector of the front under the pretext of providing against "enemy's surprise attack", according to a Seoul-based radio report.
Mobilized in the unprecedented-in-scale war exercise were various kinds of military facilities including fighters and multiple launching rockets and over 4,000 armed forces.
The South Korean ruling quarters, who openly branded the DPRK as their "sworn enemy," are driving the situation of the Korean peninsula to an extreme phase of war and confrontation, not peace and relaxation.
It is a very serious political and military question.
Worse still, the present South Korean ruler, crying for "reconciliation" and "cooperation," showed up at the training ground together with military bosses.
This fact glaringly reveals the bellicose nature of the present "people's government."
This year the South Korean authorities waged the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercise with foreign forces and defined the north as "sworn enemy" in the "white paper on defence." and they have ceaselessly staged war exercises against the DPRK in areas near the Military Demarcation Line and in other parts of South Korea.
These facts clearly show that they do not want reconciliation and unity of the nation, peace of the country and its peaceful reunification but "unification by prevailing over communism" by armed forces.
They will get nothing from the anti-north war exercises.
It will only precipitate their own destruction.
Reception on PRC founding anniversary
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- The Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Central Committee of the Korea-China Friendship Association gave a reception on Tuesday on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Invited to the reception were Chinese ambassador to Korea Wan Yongxiang and embassy officials, a delegation of the China association for international friendly contact and other Chinese guests.
Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, in his speech wished the Chinese people greater success in their efforts for building socialism and reunifying the country under the leadership of the Communist Party of China headed by respected Jiang Zemin.
He said that Korea-China friendship, which was established and fostered by the President Kim Il Sung together with the Chinese leaders of the old generation, is favourably developing under the particular concern of leaders of the two countries.
He expressed the belief that the people of Korea and China will understand and help each other and bring into fuller bloom the garden of friendship.
In his speech Wan Yongxiang wished the Korean people a fresh and greater success in their great efforts for the revolution and construction and for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country under the guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea headed by Kim Jong Il.
The Chinese Party and government invariably value traditional Sino-Korean friendship and set it as a steadfast policy to consolidate and develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, he said.
He said he was firmly confident that the Sino-Korean friendship will be further developed in a new historic time.
April 25 Hotel built
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- The April 25 Hotel has been built on the outskirts of Pyongyang as a monumental edifice in the era of the Workers' Party.
The hotel with a total floor space of more than 134,000 square metres and accommodation for 20,000 guests has bedrooms, cultural and welfare facilities and cook equipment on a highest level.
It will serve servicemen and civilians who participate in national military and civic events.
Soldier-builders successfully finished this gigantic project--erection of buildings, assembling of equipment and arrangement of the area--in a little more than one year.
A ceremony for the completion of the hotel took place on Tuesday.
Present at the ceremony were Jo Myong Rok, Kim Il Chol, Kye Ung Thae and others.
A congratulatory message of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee was conveyed to the soldier-builders and helpers who had performed feats in the hotel construction.
The message noted that the April 25 Hotel, a monumental edifice of the era, has been built in a short span of time under the present conditions that all the people have to overcome manifold trials and hardships in their advance. it could be done only by the revolutionary army of Korea who knows no impossibility, and it is a proud fruition produced by the might of the army and people rallied around the party as one in mind, it stressed.
Highly praising the soldier-builders and helpers for demonstrating again the potentials and stamina of socialist Korea by completing the hotel, the message expressed the belief that they would make greater success in carrying out their revolutionary duties.

The reporter said that the heroic and proud feats performed by servicemen in the noble work to carry out the WPK's grand plan for construction will be always remembered by the fatherland and handed down to posterity.
Trick aimed at disintegrating overseas Koreans
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on a "special law related to the legal status of overseas Koreans" which the South Korean authorities announced they would enact.
Lurking behind this trick is their sinister intention to induce overseas Koreans to South Korea and attain their ulterior purpose, the news analyst of the paper says, and continues:
What they seek in this is to divide the community of overseas Koreans, disorganise the overseas Koreans' movement for the reunification of the country and, for the present, shear them of their money in a bid to escape from the daily worsening economic crisis.
They are trying to divert elsewhere the attention of overseas Koreans from the DPRK, win them over to their side and thus incite feelings of anti-north confrontation among them.
South Korea is a colony in which outside forces hold sway and the dignity of the nation is ruthlessly violated.
Moreover, the South Korean authorities dispatch agents of the "Agency for National Security Planning" to other countries to watch, control, pressure, kidnap and kill overseas Koreans. now, overseas-resident Koreans turned their back to the South Korean authorities because they have no lingering affection for them.
If they are truly concerned about the interests of overseas Koreans, the South Korean authorities should take independent policies, get the aggression army withdrawn from South Korea, renounce the "National Security Law", remove the "Agency for National Security Planning" and put an end to the fascist rule.
Minju Joson on "memorial function" in S. Korea
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today runs a signed commentary on a "memorial function" the South Korean authorities plan to hold for the 50th anniversary of the formation of the army.
There cannot be anything worthy of "commemoration" for the colonial mercenary army which was formed and armed by outside forces and which serves them as a tool for their aggressive policy, the analyst of the paper says, and continues:
The South Korean army has covered the road of treachery and disgrace since it mercilessly cracked down upon the Jeju Islanders' uprising for national sovereignty on the directive of the U.S. imperialist aggression army.
The purpose of the "memorial function" is to incite feelings of inter-Korean confrontation and war fever.
Irritated by the fact that the DPRK has won victory after victory, the South Korean authorities intend to demonstrate their "might" and build up their drooping spirit through the "memorial function."
What is ridiculous is their attempt to frighten the DPRK.
The South Korean authorities had better know their position and act with discretion.
Namchongryon chairman arrested
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities arrested Jong Ho Gyun, chairman of the seventh-term Namchongryon (Kwangju-South Jolla Provincial Federation of University Student Councils), on the charge of violating the "National Security Law," a Seoul-based radio report said.
He participated in an inaugural ceremony of the fifth-term Hanchongryon (South Korean Federation of University Student Councils) and demonstrations.
Land of many designations
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Korea boasts of a history spanning 5,000 years and brilliant culture.
From old times it has been called "tapestry-like land" and "land of morning calm."
Since it had not a great leader, Korea suffered an eclipse on the world map, though it had the land as beautiful as a golden tapestry, its long history and brilliant culture.
Since a disgraceful history of flunkeyism and humiliation began, it was called "a country in seclusion" and a "colonial less-developed country."
In the past 50 years Korea has exalted its dignity throughout the world, opening a new history of changes. the progressive humankind, therefore, call it "Kim Il Sung's
Korea."
Korea has a lot of the internationally recognised designations.
The world people call Korea "homeland of Juche" and "land of Juche" because Korea is a country where the Juche idea, the greatest political philosophy in history of humankind, was founded and which is vigorously advancing under the banner of the immortal idea.
Korea shattered to smithereens the U.S. imperialism's "mightness" and defended the dignity of the country and nation from the invasion on the part of the imperialist allied forces. so. it is called a "land of heroes."
Korea, which has built a powerful national economy on the ruins of war with world-startling miracles, is called a "land of Chollima."
Korea is a country whose true masters are the popular masses and where the dignity, happiness and future of human being are guaranteed. for this, it has dozens of designations such as "a country for the people," "a country of free medical service and free education" and "a tax-free country."
Korea is still holding high the banner of socialism and adding lustre to Korean socialism, though it is suffering from the combined effects of imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle it and consecutive years of natural disasters.
Korea is now a focus of the world calling it "fortress of socialism," "invincible country" and "satellite-possessing country."
All the designations will shine long under the wise guidance of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
Myohyangsan nature reserve
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- The Myohyangsan nature reserve covers the western area of Mt. Myohyang (1,909 metres) in the northwestern part of Korea.
With superb scenic beauty blending in perfectly with the steep mountains, magnificent peaks, many waterfalls and ravines, Mt. Myohyang is known as one of the five famous mountains in Korea.
The reserve abounds in animals and plants, adding a special touch of beauty to the landscape of the mountain.
Unlike other reserves in the country, deciduous and broadleaved trees growing in the temperate zone dominate the Myohyangsan nature reserve.
The distribution of plants differs according to the height of mountains. more than 600 species of 108 genera are known from this reserve.
Needle- and broad-leaved trees grow in the area up to 600 metres above sea level, broad-leaved trees up to 1,000 metres and alpine herbaceous plants and shrubs above 1,000 metres.
There are more than 60 species of animals, some 150 species of birds, 10 species of snakes and 30 species of fish. there are in addition such notable forms as antelope, musk deer, brown bear, tiger and eagle. especially, antelopes are distributed in a wider area.
The reserve is not only rich in natural resources but is favoured by beautiful natural scenery.
The Myohyangsan nature reserve is now under the protection of the state. The area is a major source of academic studies with regard to the protection and propagation of animals and plants.
President Kim Yong Nam meets Indonesian ambassador
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, today met and conversed with Zulkarnain Afri Pane, Indonesian ambassador E.P. to Korea, who paid a farewell call on him at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

Greetings to Nigerian head of state
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, on September 28 sent a messsage of greetings to Abdulsalam Alhaji Abubakar, head of state and commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the Independence of Nigeria.
Highly praising the efforts of the head of state and government of Nigeria for political stability and economic development of the country, the message wished the Nigerian people success in their efforts to build an independent and democratic, prosperous new Nigeria under his leadership.
The message wished him success in his responsible work, hoping that the good relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would grow stronger and develop.
Greetings to Chinese party and state leaders
Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il of the Workers' Party of Korea together with President Kim Yong Nam of the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and Premier Hong Song Nam of the Cabinet of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea today sent a message of greetings to Jiang Zemin, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China, Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the PRC, and Zhu Rongji, Premier of the State Council, to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the founding of the PRC.
The message says:
The foundation of the People's Republic of China is a great achievement gained by the Chinese people at the cost of their blood through their protracted and arduous struggle. It was an epochal event that brought about radical changes in history of China.
