North on misbehavior of south

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the north headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) issued a statement Monday. The statement accuses the South Korean authorities of blocking the participation of the south headquarters of Pomminryon and the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) in the August 15 grand pro-reunification festival and the pro-reunification patriotic activities of these organisations. The statement says: It is strange for the South Korean authorities to poke their nose into a nongovernmental pro-reunification event. It is a fascist outrage for them to prohibit some specific organisations from participating in the festival. The authorities brand these organisations as "benefiting the enemy," though they are patriotic bodies that have always taken the lead in the struggle for national unity and reunification. This is an unpardonable anti-reunification fascist crime. It is unreasonable for the authorities to suppress these organisations, branding them as "pro-north" and "enemy-benefiting" while calling for a grand festival with the north. This shows the South Korean authorities pursue a sinister aim to disrupt the great event of the nation. If they are truly interested in national reconciliation, unity and reunification, they must not squeeze into the August 15 grand pro-reunification festival and lay hurdles in its way. They must allow the participation of the south headquarters of Pomminryon and Hanchongryon in the festival, ensure them free activities, immediately release the members of the south headquarters of Pomminryon and all other patriots and stop branding these organisations as "enemy-benefiting." at the same time, they must unconditionally repeal the worst "National Security Law" that incriminates any meeting between north and South Korean people.

S. Korean authorities warned to act with discretion

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement today concerning the continued smear campaign in South Korea against the inviolable political system of the DPRK. The spokesman says: After they came to power, the South Korean authorities engaged themselves in anti-north smear campaign and manipulated defectors and renegades to slander the north. Today they hurl mud at the north and go the length of insulting the headquarters of the Korean revolution through radio broadcasting and press. They fly balloons northward to scatter anti-north publications. This shows the South Korean authorities pursue anti-north confrontation and tension, though they outwardly call for "improved inter-Korean relations" and "reconciliation and cooperation." There is a limit to our patience. The South Korean authorities must take immediate measures to stop slandering the dignified system of the north. If they continue hurling mud at our system despite our warning, we will have to take strong countermeasures. They must act with discretion, mindful of grave consequences of the anti-north campaign. We will watch their future attitude.

New ideological conversion system

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The "law-abiding oath system" the South Korean rulers are going to establish is one more ideological conversion system to the core, says Rodong Sinmun today. The news analyst says: The "law-abiding oath system" is designed to force unconverted long-term prisoners and prisoners of conscience to pledge to observe all the "laws and orders" of South Korea, including the notorious "National Security Law," which is used to suppress their ideas. The ideological conversion system is, in the final analysis, renamed "law-abiding oath system." The fascist character of the system, which is the means of suppressing ideology and forcing ideological conversion, still remains unchanged. The South Korean rulers should not resort to such a third-rate trick, but unconditionally release all the unconverted long-term prisoners and prisoners of conscience as demanded by the entire nation and conscience of humankind. They also should immediately send old Kim In So, Ham Se Hwan and Kim Yong Thae back to their hometowns in the northern half of Korea.

Atmosphere of election moves into high gear

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Korea is seething with a great joy with the approach of the day of election of deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly. All the people feel very happy that they have nominated General Kim Jong Il as a candidate for the 10th SPA. Seen in streets and villages are posters and slogans "Long live the revolutionary government of workers and peasants founded by the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung and led by comrade Kim Jong Il " "Let us all participate in election of deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly and further strengthen the revolutionary government " and "Let us greet election of deputies to SPA with high degree of political enthusiasm and brilliant achievements in production and construction " decorations, fluttering flags of the DPRK, bundles of flags, flags fastened with ropes and flowers are adding delight to the people who are greeting the great event of the nation. Conspicuous at theatres, cinema houses, squares, parks and recreation grounds are performances given by national art troupes, art agitation squads of institutions and industrial establishments and student art propaganda squads. People in gala dress dance in streets and villages in the evening. They are willing to, through the forthcoming election, further consolidate the people's government and the socialist system and demonstrate once again the spirit and might of the nation which has achieved perfect unity of the leader, the party and the people. Loud-speaker cars, student singing squads and brass bands are also active in streets. Various domains of the national economy have effected a great upsurge to greet the election with brilliant achievements. Mass media give wide publicity to such news.

"System of law-abiding oath" rejected in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Human rights organisations in South Korea strongly rejected the "system of law-abiding oath," which has been introduced by the present "government" styling itself a "government for the people" in place of the fascist conversion system, as part of crafty schemings to bring prisoners of conscience to their knees, according to a radio report from Seoul. The council of human rights organisations in a statement said that wresting "written oath" from prisoners of conscience as a bait of release is as good as encroaching upon the freedom of conscience. It called for an unconditional release of prisoners of conscience, accusing the authorities of forcing them to accept the unreasonable, intolerable demand. The Roman Catholic Human Rights Committee in a statement said that the "system of law-abiding oath" is no more than another conversion system.

Over 4,000 unionists go on strike in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Over 4,000 unionists of the Korea heavy industries and construction co., ltd. Staged a definite strike against the puppet clique's proposal for privatisation of public enterprises on July 3, a Seoul-based radio said. They charged that the "government" authorities are seeking unilateral sales of public enterprises to civilians, and called for an immediate halt to such an act against the workers. In another development, the trade union of the Hyun Dai Motor Company held an emergence measure committee meeting on July 3 to launch into the second strike for two days from July 6 in case the management refuses to lift the layoff system. Upwards of 350 unionists of the Pusan subway occupied the rails and staged a demonstration for hours for their right to existence.

U.S. Forces reorganised for surprise attack

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Of late the United States has reorganised its forces in pursuance of the "strategy of forward deployment" in the Asia-Pacific region. Rodong Sinmun today says the reorganisation is for a surprise attack on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The daily goes on: The U.S. reorganised the 7th Fleet which is the main force of its navy in the Asia-Pacific region and the 3rd Fleet in the wake of the reorganisation of its forces in South Korea and Japan. It also reorganised the 5th Fleet with the Persian gulf region as its main theatre and is deploying it in Japan. The air force has also been reorganised in the Asia-Pacific region where over 2,600 u.s. Strategic and tactical planes are deployed. It has been reinforced with planes of the latest type. A surprise attack on the DPRK is the U.S. design of aggression which still remains unchanged. To this end the U.S. plans to call out the naval and air forces and, at the same time, land the marines in coordinated operation with the forces and let them join in a ground mobile warfare. The U.S. plan is judged by the task of the mobile strike force which is being reorganised. The reorganised U.S. armed forces are often involved in military manoeuvres. Especially, the U.S. has staged large-scale joint military manoeuvres "RIMPAC" in the heart of the pacific from July 6. The U.S. Should stop reorganising its armed forces and pull its aggression forces out of South Korea and the Asia-Pacific region.

First gunfire in world history of naval battles

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The Korean people installed guns on ships to defeat aggressors for the first time in would history of naval battles. A naval battle in 1571 is said to be the first battle by a ship with a gun in Europe. The battle took place nearly 200 years after the Koreans defeated Japanese aggressors with the help of gun-equipped ship in the Jinpho Naval Battle in 1380 (period of Koryo.) Involved in the battle off Jinpho in the mouth of the River Kum of Jolla Province were 100 ships of the Koryo naval forces and some 500 ships of the aggressors. The Koryo naval forces won in the battle beyond expectations. The ships of Japs were destroyed by barrages of gunfire of the Koryo naval forces at the initial stage of the battle. The victory in the battle is associated with the resourcefulness and talents of Choe Mu Son and other Koryo people. Choe Mu Son directed the production of powder and firelocks in 1377. In those days he was a manufacturer of various kinds of guns, shells and arrows with fire wick. He installed on ships guns of his own making. The gunboats of the Koryo naval forces proved successful in a naval battle off Sachon county in 1382. 47 ships of the Koryo naval forces sank 120 Japanese ships in a naval battle off Namhae county in May 1383. Korea was the first to use gunboats in world history of naval battles.
