Sinchon simmering with rage

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- More than 10,000 people from different parts of the country and abroad visit Sinchon, South Hwanghae Province, every day around June 25, the day when the U.S. imperialists provoked the Korean War 48 years ago from now. Sinchon indicts the U.S. imperialist aggressors for crimes that make the brutes blush. Upon occupying Sinchon in October Juche 39 (1950), the aggressors got to massacre inconceivable for men of normal brains. The then commander of the U.S. Forces present in the Sinchon area Harison, said that the communists should be stamped out. He showed up at a powder depot in Wonam-ri and told his soldiers to keep women and their children separated from each other so as to make the detainees feel very much troubled and vexed to death, adding that they might be happy to be detained in the same place. The Yankees separated the mothers from their children before pouring gasoline at the children and babies who were crying for drinking water and milk. When the children and babies sucked gasoline and were crying, feeling great pains, the Yankees threw flaming torches to kill them. They also threw explosives at the mothers. The American soldiers drowned over 2,000 innocent people by dropping them from Soktang bridge. They also drowned more than 1,000 women in Sowon reservoir. Upwards of 1,200 patriotic-minded people detained in an ice warehouse were bitten to death by military dogs. The head of master Yun Hae Won of Jungsan Primary School was sawed up alive. The eyeballs and breasts of chairwoman Pak Yong Gyo of the women's union of the Sinchon Tobacco Factory were gouged out. The enemies disembowled a pregnant woman to hold up a 9 month-old embryo on the end of a bayonet, laughing aloud. The yankees massacred 35,383 innocent Koreans, or a quarter of the population of Sinchon in 52 days of their occupation of the place. Exhibited in the Sinchon Museum are 6,465 items of evidences and some 450 pictures showing the man-hunting of the U.S. imperialist brutes. A survey group of the International Association of Lawyers published a joint communique in 1952 bitterly denouncing the U.S. imperialists' massacre in Sinchon as an unprecedented-in-scope murder. The Korean people will remember the massacre for all ages and requite blood with blood.

Telegraphic order of KPA Supreme Commander

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), issued a telegraphic order on Wednesday to extend thanks to all the agricultural workers and helpers who had finished rice-transplanting. Very satisfied at the fact that servicemen and people made a breakthrough in agricultural production with concerted efforts, he issued the following order for successful farming this year: 1. I extend thanks to the agricultural workers, servicemen and helpers throughout the country who successfully finished rice-transplanting with devoted efforts, upholding our party's agriculture-first policy. 2. All the agricultural workers, servicemen and helpers should, in the same spirit as in rice-transplanting, weed paddy and non-paddy fields four times before the election of deputies to the 10th Supreme People's Assembly, take measures to prevent possible damage in the rainy season and properly manure and tend crops so as to greet the 50th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea with increased production of rice, vegetable, fruit and meat. 3. Deeply aware that rice is precisely socialism and that defending socialism reliably is essential for the prosperity of Kim Il Sung's nation, the agricultural workers should perform their duty as the very one responsible for agricultural production, and the whole party, the entire army and all the people should actively assist socialist rural communities, thus reaping a bumper harvest this year without fail.

Struggle for reunification festival

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- The South Korean "government of people" is seeking to block the south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) and the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) from participating in the "Grand Festival for National Reconciliation, Unity and Reunification" to be held at Panmunjom in August. Strongly protesting such moves, the south headquarters of Pomminryon reportedly called a press conference in Seoul on June 26. Chairman of the south headquarters Kang Hui Nam told reporters that the south headquarters of Pomminryon welcomes the north-proposed festival and strongly urges the "government" not to block the participation of the vanguard of reunification movement, Pomminryon and Hanchongryon. It also urges the "government" once again to legalize Pomminryon, Hanchongryon and other reunification movement organizations and, furthermore, to ensure the Grand Reunification Festival of Pomchonghakryon (National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification) and other reunification events on the part of nongovernmental organizations, which are being prepared in diverse forms on the occasion of August 15, he said. He strongly demanded that the "government" abrogate the "National Security Law", which hinders national reunification and defines the fellow countrymen as "enemy", and promptly release all the prisoners of conscience who have been arrested on unreasonable charges while devotedly fighting for national reunification and democracy in society. On the same day the south headquarters made public a statement protesting the moves. The statement said the headquarters would urge the "government" authorities to ensure a peaceful holding of the ninth pan-national rally on August 15. And it will join hands with all the organizations and personages who want reunification, so as to hold the rally with large attendance, it declared. Kang Hui Nam, in an open letter to the South Korean chief executive on June 24, said activities of the south headquarters of Pomminryon and Hanchongryon for reunification conform with the interests of the nation and should not be a target of suppression but be encouraged and protected. He demanded that the new regime not follow in the footsteps of the preceding anti-national dictatorial regime but take a turnabout step for the participation of the Pomminryon south headquarters and Hanchongryon in the festival.

U.S. troops' occupation of S. Korea cannot be justified

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- On June 29, U.S. Secretary of Defense William Cohen told the Los Angeles consultative council on foreign affairs that the United States would continue to station its troops in South Korea even after the north and the south of Korea are reunified. Commenting on his outbursts, a news analyst of Rodong Sinmun today says: This reveals the U.S. brigandish design of aggression to realise domination over the whole of Korea with strength. We cannot but take a serious view of the fact that at an official meeting, the chief of the U.S. military unfolded the U.S. plan to keep its troops in South Korea for an indefinite period and use them as major means to invade the DPRK. The U.S. troops present in South Korea are military forces which have been deployed on the forefront in order to bring the DPRK under control with strength and realise the U.S. design for aggression on Asia. The United States has continuously reinforced its armed forces in South Korea and mobilized them in war manoeuvres as the main force. These forces are wreckers and disturbers of regional stability. It is ridiculous and preposterous to describe them as an important factor in "regional stability." The U.S. aggressive Korea policy has not changed at all. The United States must discard the outdated viewpoint and war psychology and make a switchover in its policy toward the DPRK. What is the most important is the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from South Korea. Without the withdrawal of the U.S. troops, the state of truce and hostilities between the DPRK and the United States cannot be terminated nor can detente and peace on the Korean peninsula be expected. If the United States is truly interested in stability and peace in the Korean peninsula, it must take a practical action to withdraw its troops from South Korea.

What do they seek in setting up "institute"? =KCNA commentary=

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- The Defence Agency of Japan reportedly set up an "institute" on July 1 for an exclusive examination of defence policies of the country and matters concerning "security" surrounding Japan. It came with only 8 persons. However, no one can vouch that the "institute" will not be a source of instability in the Korean peninsula and northeast Asia. In the past, there were similar "institutes" in Japan where plans of invasion of Korea and the Chinese mainland and the pacific war were worked out. In 1948 and 1949 just before the outbreak of the Korean War the United States set up institutes with Kawabe, Hattori and other officers of the defeated Japanese military so that they might work out plans of Korean War and aggression on the far east. Japan has historically worked out plans of aggressive war on the plea of "studies." The "institute" set up by the Defence Agency recently has no ground to deny that it is designed to find a way of staging a comeback to the Korean peninsula and northeast Asia and examine pre-emptive strike. Its mission includes the work to "guarantee security" in northeast Asia, rennovate Japan's military technology, adjust defence capabilities and study concrete ways of preventing nuclear proliferation. Thus, Japanese reactionaries pave the way for reinvasion stage by stage. Without keeping Japan from working for reinvasion no one can expect peace in northeast Asia and the rest of the world. It is necessary to sharpen vigilance against Japan. The Korean people are keeping a close eye on every movement of Japan. If Japan dare take the road of reckless military challenge, they will determinedly provide against it.

History cannot be distorted

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comes out with a signed article denouncing the Japanese government for refusing to admit, apologize and compensate for its past crimes. The moves to distort the history cannot be tolerated under any circumstances, the author of the article says, and continues: On June 23, the Japanese government published results of official examination of textbooks for higher schools. In the results, it distorted the issue of "comfort women for the army," an unethical crime, and wrote that state compensation has already been made. This convinces us that the Japanese government does not want to give a correct knowledge of history to the rising generation. As it can no longer prevent narration of the "comfort women" issue, it is cunningly trying to distort its truth. This is illustrated by the fact that the Japanese government authorities and military are putting pressure upon writers to make textbooks with distorted materials in a bid to give impressions that they are not responsible for the crime. In addition to this, they have not yet compensated for the past crimes for more than half a century. After giving small loans to some countries, they are advertising that they have compensated for all the past. In particular, they have paid no reparation to the DPRK. Such behaviour of Japan is very different from that of other nations that were defeated in the Second World War. The Japanese government must honestly admit and liquidate its past crimes. This will bring benefits to Japan itself.

Over 10,000 S. Korean workers go on strike

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- Upwards of 10,000 unionists of the Hyun Dai Motor Company went on a definite strike in protest against the layoff system on June 30, a Seoul-based radio said. The management is trying to dismiss more than 4,800 workers. Enraged by this, the unionists held a rally for a general strike and stayed out. As a result, the operation of 11 production processes of the company was totally suspended. The protesters declared that they would call a general strike in the wake of the definite strike in case the projected dismissal has not been lifted until July 4.

Grand reunification festival welcomed

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) reportedly published an article titled "Hanchongryon's position toward August 15 Reunification Festival". The north of Korea proposed to political parties, organizations and personages in the south and overseas to hold a "grand festival for national reconciliation, unity and reunification" at Panmunjom around august 15 this year, which will be participated in by Koreans from the north, south and overseas. Recalling it, Hanchongryon in the article expressed full support for the proposal. The article scathingly denounced the South Korean puppet authorities for branding Hanchongryon and the south headquarters of Pomminryon (National Alliance for the Country's Reunification) as "organizations benefiting the enemy" by invoking "the National Security Law", a law against reunification, and blocking their participation in the grand reunification festival. It held that the "government" should positively ensure nongovernmental reunification events of different forms and themes. Hanchongryon vows to successfully hold the "grand festival for national reconciliation, unity and reunification" for the unity and reconciliation of our nation and calls for positive efforts of other nongovernmental organizations, it said.

Bodies of sub's crew repatriated

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- The second round of the general-level officers' meeting between the Korean People's Army and the International Allied Forces took place at Panmunjom on June 30 at the request of our side. At the meeting our side offered detailed materials showing that a submarine was wrecked off Kosong, Kangwon Province, on June 22 after going adrift with mechanical troubles while on a training mission, and strongly urged immediate repatriation of the vessel and the bodies of its crew. The U.S. major general who headed the delegation of the International Allied Forces acceded to the demand for the repatriation of the bodies. Under the agreement at the meeting, our side received the bodies from the U.S. Forces side at Panmunjom today.
