Five-point policy of great national unity supported

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- Foreign political parties, organisations, regional organisations and individual figures made public statements supporting the five-point policy of great national unity set out in "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully Through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation," a historical letter published by General Kim Jong Il on April 18. The Labour Party of Guyana in a statement on April 29 said that the five-point policy of great national unity is a reasonable and realistic reunification proposal acceptable to anyone for its spirit of national independence and patriotism and its profundity. The East European Centre for Solidarity and Support with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK in statements on April 26 pointed out that the five-point policy is the basis of action for all the genuine friends of the world who are supporting the struggle of the Korean people for the great unity of the entire nation and the reunification of the country. The Maltese Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification and the Malta-Korea Friendship Association in a joint statement on April 29 noted: "We express support and solidarity for the Korean people in their struggle to implement the five-point policy of great national unity set forth by his excellency the great leader Kim Jong Il, considering it to be highly important guidelines which enable the Korean people to solve the question of national reunification by themselves without any interference by outside forces." The April 30 statement of the Guinean Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification pointed out that the five-point policy of great national unity laid down by General Kim Jong Il is an epochal proposal which makes it possible to achieve the reunification of Korea independently and peacefully by surmounting all obstacles lying in the way of Korea's reunification. Abdul Rahman Matar, information chief of the organisation of socialists in the Mediterranean, said in a statement: "Our organisation highly estimates the five-point policy of great national unity, considering it to be just guidelines and way to realise the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea." Statements were also published by the Ilewelyn John, leader of the People's Democratic Movement of Guyana, the Minister of Amerindian Affairs of Guyana, the Secretary General of the All-Indian newspaper Employer Federation and the editor-in-chief of the Egyptian newspaper Al Shabab Al Arab.

S. Korean authorities hit for trying to repress labor movement

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities fabricated "five-point policy for prevention of illegal demonstration" and "six-point policy for prevention of illegal strike" and began pursuing them. Rodong Sinmun today describes this as a vicious, unjustifiable and brigandish act. The news analyst says: The recent fascist suppression is a prelude to a new repressive offensive against labor movement and an anti-worker and anti-social act which cannot be justified in any case. The South Korean authorities threatened to crack down upon just demonstrations of the workers, talking about "revival of the economy". It is clear that the "government" which has robbed the the workers of their right to existence and is now trying to repress them, cannot become a "government for the sake of the people". Though the Kim Young Sam-led "government" of traitors under the "civilian" veil described the workers' struggle as enemy-benefiting, the present "government" authorities describe the struggle as "illegal." No doubt, the incumbent rulers will outdistance Kim Young Sam's regime in repressing the workers. There is a lesson drawn from the miserable end of the "civilian"-veiled dictatorship. If the present "government" looks down on the barchanded poor people and turns its back on them, it will face a bitter condemnation from the people.

Justice is sure to win

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to the 53rd anniversary of the victory in the war against Germany. The author of the article says: the great victory won by the Soviet people in the war against fascist Germany was an event which proved again the truth of history that the cause of justice is sure to win in any adversity. The mass heroism and matchless self-sacrificing spirit displayed by the Soviet people were based on their true love for and trust in their socialist homeland and on their firm conviction of the justness of their cause. This irresistible might brought fascist Germany to defeat. The aggressive and war forces, who still remain on the globe, are seriously threatening world peace and security. All the anti-imperialist, independent forces should closely unite and powerfully struggle to defend peace and security.

Press conference at Russian embassy

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- A press conference was called at the Russian embassy here on May 8 on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the great patriotic war. Military attache of the Russian embassy Vladimir Dombrovsky outlined the significance of the defeat of fascism in the war. The Soviet people turned out as one in the sacred war for defending the motherland and displayed mass heroism, he added. Meanwhile, he gave a reception on the same occasion and the anniversary of the armed forces of the Russian Federation. Invited to the reception were generals and officers of the Korean People's Army and military attaches of foreign embassies here. Speeches were made there.

Korean people's economic construction

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The Korean people are working hard to greet the 50th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (September 9) with labor achievements. In the calls issued to mark the National Day the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee says agriculture, coal industry, electric power industry, railway transport and metal industry are the main fronts of socialist economic construction. The Korean people focus on agriculture this year. The whole country is engaged in farming this year, too. Agricultural working people, servicemen and helpers are stepping up the transplanting of humus-pot maize seedlings. South Hwanghae and South Phyongan provinces take the lead in this work. Rice-transplanting began on many cooperative farms throughout the country. Labor innovations are also reported from coal industry. All coal mines are securing more coal fields and increasing production of coal by concentrating on tunnelling and pit construction. Anju and Kaechon area coal mines built large-scale coal cutting faces to produce thousands of tons of coal more than their daily quotas. Sunchon and Tokchon area coal mines discovered coal fields of big deposits. Electric power industry is gaining brilliant successes in production and construction. Large thermal and hydraulic power stations are systematically increasing the production of electricity. This year more than 130 minor hydraulic power stations and some 400 substitute fuel-burning stations were built and hundreds of wind power plants were built to be commissioned. Many units, therefore, meet the increasing demand for electricity by their own efforts. The construction of hundreds of minor power stations is in full swing throughout the country. Railway transport workers are achieving great successes by laying solid material and technical foundations. Steel and iron works are increasing the production to supply rolled steel of various standards and qualities to different domains of the national economy. Dazzling successes are also gained in machine-building, chemical, building-materials and timber industries and many other fields of the national economy. The project to build a new street between the Kumsusan Memorial Palace and the Pyongyang Airport as well as a more grandiose and beautiful capital city is successfully pushed forward. The Korean people, full of faith and optimism, are pushing ahead with the struggle to greet the 50th founding anniversary of the DPRK with a great pride and honor of being socialist victors.

Trick does not work any longer

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The Japanese government in the 1998 edition of "Diplomacy Blue Book" took issue with the DPRK over the "suspected abduction of the Japanese". Minju Joson today describes this as a shameless act that can be done only by Japan engrossed in taking issue with others for her sinister intention. The news analyst says: By doing so the Japanese government seeks to direct world focus to the DPRK and flee from the responsibility for abduction and coercive drafting of millions of Koreans. It must not go unnoticed that a high-ranking diplomat of Japan said that the "comfort women for the army" issue was already settled. Clear is the aim of his utterances. The Japanese government is now trying not to make an apology and compensation for the criminal "comfort women" issue. The Korean people and the progressives of the world will let Japan file an apology and compensation for the anti-ethic crime committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past. It is ridiculous of the Japanese government to gain something in reliance upon the craftiness and shamelessness congenial to it. The Japanese government should be aware of the trend of the times and abandon its bad habit. Taking sincere attitude towards the past crime is beneficial to Japan herself.

One more fascist step

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The South Korean prosecution authorities held a "national meeting of public security-related directors" on May 6 to fabricate the "five-point policy for prevention of illegal demonstration" and the "six-point policy for prevention of illegal strike" and began pursuing them from may 7, according to a radio report from Seoul. The puppets, describing the struggle of the workers and people of other social strata for right to existence as "Illegal and violent", threatened to repress it promptly by "government" power and severely punish those involved in it. This fully shows the fascist nature of the present "government".

International support for Korean people's cause of reunification

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- Foreign state and party leaders supported the Korean people's cause of reunification. Pakistani President Mohammad Rafiq Tarar said the Pakistani government hopes that Korea will be reunified independently and peacefully without foreign interference, highly estimates the just policy of General Kim Jong Il for achieving the reunification of the country through national unity and fully supports it. He said this when he received the DPRK ambassador to his country on May 4. Nayaf Hawatimeh, General Secretary of the Liberation Democratic Front of Palestine, when he received the DPRK ambassador to Syria on May 2, said that the Palestinian people fully support the policy for great national unity put forward by the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il. He noted that General Kim Jong Il's five-point policy for great national unity is a very just one which accords with the interests of the entire Korean people. The South Korean authorities must accept such a constructive initiative, he added.

EU delegation arrives

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the European Union led by Mukesh Kapila arrived here today.

War confab showing dirty colors of warhawks

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The present South Korean authorities revealed their attempt to invade the north at a "meeting of major commanding officers of the army" held on May 6 with the attendance of the Minister of National Defence, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, chiefs of staff of all services, commanding officers above army corps commander and others, more than 120 in all, according to a radio report from Seoul. The puppets spoke ill of the social system of the north and discussed "decisively coping with a provocation which the north may make suddenly." Worse still, the authorities called for strengthening the South Korea-U.S. defence system and "cooperation" with the U.S. imperialists against the fellow countrymen in the north. The discussions at the confab, the first of its kind after the appearance of the new "government," prove that the present South Korean authorities are warhawks and separatists outdistancing the preceding military fascist dictators.

Rodong Sinmun on U.S. two-pronged policy

Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today accuses the United States of calling for "detente" on the Korean peninsula diplomatically, while persistently trying to stifle the Democratic People's Republic of Korea with military force. In a commentary the daily says: The United States is giving lip service to "detente" and "stability" on the Korean peninsula without taking practical steps to terminate its military presence in South Korea, which is a main factor of the military tension and the danger of war on the peninsula, and establish a new peace-keeping mechanism. It cannot be construed otherwise than a deceptive, camouflaged peace offensive. In actuality, the united states has escalated the adventurous military moves against the DPRK, craftily crying for "detente." It, with Japan and the South Korean puppets, has intensively discussed "jointly coping with emergency" on the peninsula and openly tried to strengthen the triangular military alliance. Recently, the U.S. warhawks deployed many officers and soldiers in South Korea for the purpose of "increasing the operation capacity of the U.S. Forces" in "emergency" and staged a military drill for rapid deployment and operation of U.S. reinforcements to be dispatched to the Korean front urgently. Now the situation of the Korean peninsula is very serious. Its main cause is the U.S. military presence in South Korea. If peace is to be ensured on the Korean peninsula and the far east, the U.S. troops should be withdrawn from South Korea at an early date.
