February holiday celebrated in S. Korea

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) on February 21 issued information about colorful functions held in South Korea on the occasion of the 56th birthday of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, according to the Seoul-based radio voice of national salvation. The information said: The NDFSK and other patriotic fighting organisations set a celebration period from February 5 to 20 and organised colorful functions in this period. Meetings were held by the NDFSK organisations at all levels and patriotic fighting organisations. The meeting sponsored by the NDFSK Central Committee on February 15 stressed that since he rose as the lodestar of Mt. Paektu, General Kim Jong Il has performed tremendous exploits and undying feats, which any other great men in the world could not, in the course of the Juche revolution to accomplish the cause of President Kim Il Sung, the sun of the nation. Symposiums, lecture meetings, works and photo exhibitions and video shows on the greatness and undying exploits of the General were held in all parts of South Korea. The speakers at the meetings said that in view of disparity between the north, a powerful and strong state with the Juche character and national character established, and the south, a colony, they more keenly realized only the General is the genuine leader whom the nation should look up to and follow and only his bosom will embrace all the members of the nation. Missions of the NDFSK overseas sent congratulatory letters to the general, made public statements and held press conferences, lecture sessions and meetings with foreign political parties and organisations in celebration of the holiday of February. The patriotic fighting organisations including the sun society, the February 16 fellowship society and the Paektu society pasted up wallpapers, wall newspapers, streamers and placards with the content of "Congratulations to February 16, the greatest holiday of the nation," "Long live General Kim Jong Il, glory and pride of the nation" and so on in many places and distributed or scattered memorial postcards and leaflets with images of the three generals of Mt. Paektu. The radio voice of national salvation and the newspaper Kuguk Jonson (National Salvation Front) reported special programs and carried special writeups and song societies including the north star and Meari gave performances with songs praising the General. The significant celebrations of the General's 56th birthday as the greatest festival of the nation fully demonstrated the determination of the NDFSK and people from all walks of life to revere and follow him as the saviour of the nation.

Optimistic life of Korean people

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The Korean people live optimistically, while pushing ahead with this year's forced march for the final victory. They, who are full of confidence in victory, sing pleasant songs and organize the mass cultural recreation work well at their workplaces. In various districts of the capital city of Pyongyang, brass bands make people more pleasant on their way to workplaces. At their factories and enterprises working people organize their life optimistically with joyful songs and mass dances during the break. Such mass cultural recreation work as chess, yut-game, mass rhythmic exercise and Taekwon-do for health is briskly conducted on holidays and other redletter days. Although difficulties are cropping up, the Korean people are living a revolutionary, emotional life. Their life was created in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle organized by President Kim Il Sung. In the arduous period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, the guerrillas lived optimistically with songs and dances around fire made with twigs and fallen leaves during the break in march and camping at night. In the grim period of the fatherland liberation war, heroic soldiers of the Korean People's Army held even concerts on heights with musical instruments they made by themselves. Inheriting this precious tradition, the Korean people live optimistically with confidence in victory of socialism.

Ill-boding behaviour

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The United States sent fighter bombers and two gunships to South Korea and, earlier, deployed a combat flying corps consisting of 18 F-15S and two helicopter gunboats there. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun today brands the reinforcement as part of the moves to increase the U.S. military power in south korea and ignite another Korean war any moment. The news analyst goes on: The U.S. military says it is necessary to make up for a "military vacuum" and cope with the DPRK's "possible military action" coinciding with the Iraq incident. This is a brazenfaced lie. The United States is trying to carry a "two wars scenario" into practice. The strategy seeks to unleash wars in the Persian Gulf and on the Korean Peninsula simultaneously. It is for the execution of the strategy that the United States is reinforcing its military presence in South Korea. The reinforcement, however, is aggravating the situation on the peninsula and escalating the danger of war. So, we cannot but keep ourselves fully ready to cope with the dangerous military acts of the United States. The United States must discontinue the criminal moves to reinforce its armed forces in south korea and unleash a new war by taking issue with us groundlessly.

Poor excuse of brazen-faced traitor

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Kim Young Sam reportedly made "a farewell address" at a "farewell party" given by the "civilian"-veiled riffraffs on February 23. In his "farewell address" the traitor begged for magnanimity from those to whom he did damage against his will to fulfill the duty of the "President." He tried to curry favor with his underlings for fear of his crimes during his term of office. It is ridiculous that he tried to talk about his "achievements". He said efforts for some "reform" proved successful but they have not benefitted from it in actuality, adding that it was deplorable that they failed to provide against the financial crisis in advance. His rigmarole is a poor and shameless excuse for his crimes of driving South Korean society into a total bankruptcy in the five years of his term. The miserable end of Kim who made "the farewell address" as a living corpse shows the rulers of South Korea how preposterous and disgraceful it is to realise their wild ambition for power with dependence on outsiders.

G.S. Kim Jong Il praised by Syrian poet

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- A Syrian poet created a poem "flower of dawn" in praise of General Kim Jong Il. Jot Shahin in the poem extended greetings to the leader Kim Jong Il, the beacon of socialist Korea, saying that his ideas are fresh like the land of Korea and his heart is lightening the sky of the era like a flame. He said socialist korea built in accordance with the immortal ideas of President Kim Il Sung is being further glorified by love of the leader Kim Jong Il and dignified Korea is a place he always wants to visit. General Kim Jong Il is the heart of Korea and defender of socialism and under his guidance they are fighting against the U.S. and the enemy of humankind, the poet noted. He wished a long life in good health to General Kim Jong Il, a comrade of the world revolutionaries and fighters and the great sun of the working people.

Jagang Province supports itself

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Jagang Province is taking the lead in the forced march of socialism for the final victory. The province is located between 120 metres and 2,000 metres above sea level. In January General Kim Jong Il visited the province to give on-the-spot guidance to various domains of the national economy and open an epochal phase of the Korean revolution. He inspected nearly 20 places, making a journey of some 2,400 kilometres several days when the temperature dropped as low as 30 degrees below zero. During his historic on-site guidance he confirmed the justness and vitality of the policy of self-reliance pursued by the Workers' Party of Korea and indicated the best way of solving the electricity problem. He saw the electric generators made by the workers in the province, and said self-reliance was very good and only self-reliance is a way out. He spoke highly of the workers and other people in the province who built many minor power stations to solve the electricity problem for themselves. He went on to say that electrification means the use of electricity for household utensils including lighting, heating and cooking. He called upon the province to take the lead in the powerful struggle for electrification of the country. When he dropped in at a factory, he was told that the workers of the factory made an automatic assembly line by their own efforts. He said the factory had nothing foreign-made, the assembly line is a product of self-reliance and automation was very nice. Going round some factories and enterprises and electricity-heated houses in the province, he said that from now on Jagang Province would make a happy march, not "the arduous march". Chief Secretary Yon Hyong Muk of the Jagang Provincial Committee of the WPK said the province would complete the building of 58 minor power stations this year and many counties would attain self-sufficiency in electricity.

Pyongyang Aluminium Factory

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- A nicely-hedged-in factory stands at the foot of a small green hill in Sonnae-Dong, Mangyongdae district, in the capital city of Pyongyang. It occupies an area of about 50,000 square metres, and its floor space is 27,000 square metres. The factory consists of seven sections including rolling, processing, assembling, finishing and maintenance. It produces 36 kinds of kitchen utensils such as cauldrons, large deep bowls, pots and kettles, as well as kerosene stoves and washing machines. It has 40 years of history in its career. During 40 years of operation the factory modernised its production processes through steady technical renovations and now they are automatically controlled. This factory has twice been awarded the title of "Model Machine No.26 Factory" for its good care of the equipment. It has also completed its monthly, quarterly and annual production plans ahead of schedule. The factory is producing ten thousand aluminium cauldrons every month. According to the Taean work system, materials are directly brought to workshops. The goods it produces are very popular with people. Aluminium cauldrons, kettles and frying pans are well designed and of good quality bearing the "wave"-trademark. They won gold and bronze medals at several national shows. These products are also exported to Togo and many other countries.

Castle on Mt. Jongbang

Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- The castle on Mt. Jongbang is situated in Sariwon city, North Hwanghae Province in the central part of the western area of Korea. It is a stone castle built to suit the rough geological features of Mt. Jongbang (the name means square linking mountain ridges with each other). The castle, one of the major mountain castles about 48 km south of Pyongyang, was a satellite for defence of the Pyongyang castle after the transfer of Koguryo's capital to Pyongyang. Repaired in 1632, it covers about two million square meters and is 12 km in circumference. The precipitous castle is clad with stones only on the outer wall. The height of the wall is 5-6 meters and more than 10 meters at low places. The castle has four rainbow-like gates on stone terraces with turrets above them. Within the castle there are ruined commander's terraces for watching the enemy's situation and commanding battles, barracks, arsenals, military supplies stores and houses. The castle shows well the developed technique of castle building and its shape at that time. There are many remains and relics including Songbul Temple, some 1,000 years old, within and around the castle. Mt. Jongbang has turned into a pleasure ground for the people.
