Solicitation diplomacy leads to ruin of nation

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- Some politicians of South Korea are now reportedly busy garnering support for their call for the adoption a "six-nation joint declaration" for inter-Korean peaceful coexistence and peace and stability in Northeast Asia. By the "six nations" they mean two halves of Korea, the United States, China, Japan and Russia. The call may sound good. But it is a silly and dangerous "plan." The present situation of Northeast Asia is different from that of Europe in 1975 when the "Helsinki Declaration" was adopted. Antagonism has continued with no sign of willingness to recognize each other as state. And the state of war has not been terminated in technical terms. This is the situation of Northeast Asia quite different from Europe's. If state leaders gather and adopt a joint declaration under such circumstances, it is as foolish as trying to build a house on sand without foundation. Stability and peace have not been ensured on the Korean Peninsula not because there is no "declaration" by its neighbouring nations but because the United States has still kept huge armed forces in south korea and presented military threat to the DPRK though the cold war ended long ago. Calling for a "sixth-nation declaration" without seeing the keypoint of the issue is either a revelation of their illiteracy or a manifestation of their sinister political intrigue intentionally ignoring the essense of the issue. Their solicitation diplomacy over the issue related to the destiny of the nation is a very dangerous act. It is a serious lesson given by the history of the Korean nation that solicitation leads to national ruin. The present South Korean regime in its waning days has also ruined inter-Korean relations with solicitation diplomacy. In the closing years of Ri dynasty the rulers of Korea had ruined the nation with such a solicitation diplomacy towards powers. But such a traitorous tendency still prevails in south korea. It is really a deplorable thing. The South Korean politicians must know that if they want to do something, they should do in their own way, and this is what the nation requires.

Rodong Sinmun urges U.S. troop pullout from Asia-Pacific region

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today accuses the United States of advertising "necessity of its military presence" in the Asia-Pacific region under the pretext of ensuring stability in the region. The factor of the instability in the region including the Korean Peninsula is just the U.S. military presence in South Korea and Japan, the daily says in a commentary. It further says: The U.S. troops present in South Korea and Japan are a shock brigade for the execution of the aggressive U.S. strategy toward Korea and Asia. So, all their military activities are aimed at realising the U.S. military domination over the whole of Korea and the rest of Asia. Arms buildup and military exercises in South Korea and Japan are also aimed at increasing combat and attack capabilities. It is nonsense that the U.S. military presense in South Korea and Japan is necessary for peace and stability. Wrecking peace and stability is all it has done. What the United States seeks is not to ensure peace and stability but intentionally increase tension and instability in the Asia-Pacific region. In this way, it wants to have a reason to keep its troops in this region and start a war of aggression. The U.S. troop pullout means the elimination of the factor of instability on the Korean Peninsula and in the rest of the Asia-Pacific region. It is a prerequisite to peace and stability in this region.

Federation of Metal Trade Unions inaugurated in South Korea

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- The Joint Federation of Metal Trade Unions, the largest one of industrial trade unions, was organized in Seoul on Feb. 15, a Seoul-based radio report said. More than 2,500 unionists of the metal federation, the motor federation and the confederation of the Hyun Dai Motor Company trade unions, the three metal trade unions under the "Korean Confederation of Trade Unions", held a rally and declared the inauguration of the joint federation. It was reported that the joint federation involves more than 180 trade unions including those of the Hyun Dai Motor Company and the Dae Woo Motor Company and 190,000 unionists. Tan Pyong Ho, Chairman of the Emergency Measure Committee of the "Korean Confederation of Trade Unions", was elected the first chairman of the joint federation.

Increasing number of heroes

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- The number of heroes is ever increasing in Korea. 23 people became labour heroes at the national meeting of example-setters in self-reliance which was held recently. They greatly contributed to accelerating the economic construction of the country and improving the people's living standards in the spirit of self-reliance and hard working under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea. Ri In Mo, the incarnation of faith and will, was awarded the title of hero of the republic again on the occasion of his 80th birthday. He, who suffered behind bars for 34 years in South Korea, has conducted writing activities with a strong will since returning to the motherland. In the previous year some 60 heroes were produced among soldiers of the Korean People's Army, builders and volunteers who built the large-scale Anbyon Youth Power Station on the east coast of korea by overcoming all difficulties and trials. A soldier of the Korean People's Security Forces, Jong Kwang Son, who returned to his unit triumphantly from South Korea, was awarded the medal of hero of the republic that year. The increasing number of heroes in socialist Korea is attributable to the benevolent politics of General Secretary Kim Jong Il. Saying that to live like heroes and to become a hero is the most valuable and worthwhile way of life for independent beings, he has encouraged all the people to heroic feats. The Korean people's heroism which was started in the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and shown in the arduous yet fruitful years of the revolution is now being fully displayed in the forced march of socialism. It is today's features of korea that all the servicemen and people, like heroes, reliably defend socialism, which is a strong bastion of ideology and fortress of faith.

Komdok seething with activity

Pyongyang, February (KCNA) -- Komdok, one of the leading non-ferrous metal ore production centers in the DPRK, is now bubbling over with fresh innovations. The builders at the branch pit construction company are registering good results in pit construction every day. The officials there are setting examples, finding themselves among the heading workers and arousing them to the pre-schedule fulfilment of the construction of chute no. 42, transport tunnel no. 87 and circuit tunnel no. 90. The heading workers at pit no. 2 who are undertaking the construction of chute no. 42, which will be conducive to making a breakthrough in the production of lead and zinc at the Komdok Mining Complex, are overfulfilling their assignments by more than 60 per cent day in, day out. Out of a sheer desire to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as the great festival of socialist victors, the members of the Ko Kyong Chan Mining Workteam in April 5 Pit, those of the Chon In Bom Mining Workteam in Komdok Pit and other miners under the Kumgol Branch Ore Mine have finished their monthly quota of drilling in a little over a fortnight, thus making a break-through in ensuring a large amount of ore breaking. The workers and technicians at the April 5 Youth Cable Car Pit and the drivers at the conveyor company have remarkably increased the number of operative cable cars and the amount of ore conveyance by the conveyor belt by pooling their wisdoms and mobilizing production potentials. The workers and technicians at ore-dressing plants nos. 1, 2 and 3 associated with personal guidance of President Kim Il Sung are working hard to increase the production of concentrated ore by displaying the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude and raising the rate of operation of equipment needed for ore crushing. The bases for the production of carbide and the repair of chisels prove effective these days. The complex is making an effective use of the existing repair shops. It has raised the capacity of pumps to pump up water from deep pits and have manufactured electric motors on its own to increase the amount of compressed air.

Gymnastic movements created by DPRK players

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- DPRK gymnastic players created superb gymnastic movements conducive to the world sports development. Among the gymnastic movements are "Ri Song Sop Movement," "Ri Chol Hon Movement" and "Kim Kwang Suk Movement" registered by the International Gymnastic Federation. In Juche 61 (1972), Ri Song Sop participating in the 20th Munich Olympiad made new movements in men's horizontal bar to be recorded as "Ri Song Sop Movement." Ri Chol Hon displayed his special movements in the pommel horse at the 21st World Gymnastic Championships held in Moscow in Juche 70 (1981). Drawing the attention of specialists and gymnastic players, his movements were named "Ri Chol Hon Movement." The movements performed by Kim Kwang Suk in the uneven bars at the 25th World Gymnastic Championships held in Germany in Juche 78 (1989) were named after her. At that time, she was 14 years old. With the movements she placed first in the uneven bars at the 11th Asiad and the 26th World Gymnastic Championships.
