Greetings to First Secretary of C.C., Ukrainian Communist Party
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea on October 18 sent a message of greetings to Pyotr Simonenko upon his re-election as First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ukrainian Communist Party at its 3rd Congress.
The message expressed the conviction that the friendly and cooperative relations forged between the two parties will further expand and develop in the future, and wished the first secretary great success in his responsible work for the implementation of the tasks laid down at the Party Congress.
Kim Jong Il's election as Party General Secretary welcomed
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Foreign public figures issued statements in celebration of Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).
William, Chairman of the Karamoja Region Development Committee of Uganda, in a statement dated Oct. 13 noted that General Secretary Kim Jong Il, who is most successfully carrying forward the revolutionary cause of President Kim Il Sung, is an ideological genius and outstanding leader with literary and military accomplishments and thorough knowledge of everything.
It is a great pleasure and honor of all people that the brilliant great man, Kim Jong Il, was elected as Party General Secretary, he went on.
George Pang, Minister of Public Service of the Presidential Office of Guyana, in a statement on Oct. 10 said that all the peace-loving people of the world are so glad as the Korean people at the news of Kim Jong Il's election. He extended warmest congratulations and honor to the General Secretary of the WPK.
Joseph Msika, National Chairman of the Central Committee of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, published a statement on Oct. 14 to say that with Kim Jong Il's election as General Secretary of the WPK amid absolute trust of the Korean people, they will more vigorously spur on the socialist construction and the work for independent and peaceful reunification of the country.
He noted that the Zimbabwean people and the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front will further strengthen the friendly relations and international
solidarity with the WPK and the Korean people in the future.
The friendship between the two countries will be everlasting, he added.
Vassalo Anthony, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Malta, said in his statement on Oct. 11 that Kim Jong Il's election as Party General Secretary is a common happy event for all the progressive people of the world and a turning point in the strengthening and development of the world socialist movement.
U.S. military's war moves
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Independence, an aircraft carrier of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, reportedly arrived in Pusan Port on Friday allegedly to stage "joint naval exercises" with the south Korean puppets.
Its visit is patent proof showing the reckless confrontation, interventionist and aggressive moves of the belligerent U.S. military, who are further aggravating the tense situation in the Korean Peninsula and threatening global peace and security.
They are stepping up arms buildup and the development of new-type weapons, going against the trend of history and times towards detente, today when the Cold War ended. They dare to announce that the weapons will be used to attack the DPRK and Mid-East countries.
Some time ago, the U.S. military magazine defense news reported that the U.S. army and navy are jointly developing a missile capable of destroying the underground concrete structures in the DPRK and Mid-East countries.
The United States recently sent flagships of seventh and fifth fleets to surroundings of the Korean Peninsula, timed to coincide with the announcement of the new "Japan-U.S. defense cooperation guidelines", which is a war scenario to cope with "contingency in the Korean Peninsula".
Such ill-boding moves show once again that the U.S. still seeks an anachronistic, imperialist and dominationist design, challenging the aspiration of humankind for peace and progress today on the eve of the 21st century, and that its talkative "peace" is hypocrisy.
Especially, the facts are logically contrary to their argument that they will discuss through the "four-party talks" the issue of peace on the Korean Peninsula. They also lay obstacles in the way of its solution, making us doubt about the U.S. administration's promises in its Korea policy.
The U.S. military's reckless arms buildup and war moves deprive the U.S. of any qualification and ground to clamour about the DPRK's "nuclear issue" and "missile issue."
Choice for defence is an inalienable right of every nation and every sovereign state, not monopolized by the U.S.
The Korean people and army will certainly exercise their legitimate rights to cope with such war moves.
Rodong Sinmun observes Cuban Day of Culture
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- It is Cuban Day of Culture today.
Rodong Sinmun today carries an article to mark the day.
The paper says Cuba set the day when its national anthem was composed as day of culture and holds cultural events every year to mark the day.
The paper outlines the achievements of the Cuban people in building national culture, and adds:
Today art and literature of Cuba serves as a powerful weapon to expose the imperialists' wild ambition for aggression, oppose infiltration of the decadent bourgeois culture of western countries and educate the people in sound ideology and socialist way of life.
The Cuban Party and government are resorting to culture as an important means to educate the people in a revolutionary manner in the struggle for defending socialism to the end.
Central meeting of Koreans in Japan held in Tokyo
Tokyo, October 18 (KNS-KCNA) -- A central meeting of Koreans in Japan took place in Tokyo on Oct. 18 to congratulate General Kim Jong Il upon his election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Present there were Han Tok Su, Chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and officials of Chongryon and compatriots in Japan.
Han Tok Su said in his congratulatory speech that the greatest event and luck of the Korean people and compatriots in Japan is to have the great leader of the nation in a new era of history.
He called upon all the officials of Chongryon and compatriots in Japan to devote their loyalty and vigor to the honorable patriotic cause, true to the idea and leadership of general Kim Jong Il.
Chief Vice-Chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee Ho Jong Man said in his report that the election of general Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the WPK is an expression of deep reverence and absolute trust of the Korean people and the brilliant realization of their desire.
He called for strengthening and developing Chongryon into overseas compatriots' organisation of Juche type remaining unfailingly loyal to the general.
A letter to General Secretary Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
A grand festival of compatriots in Japan was held in Tokyo on Oct. 18 to welcome his election.
Present there were Han Tok Su and other compatriots, over 25,000 in all.
Artistes of Chongryon, youths and students and women gave an art performance.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il's work published in Nepal
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- The Nepal-Korea Friendship Association published the great leader general Kim Jong Il's immortal famous work "Let Us Exalt the Brilliance of Comrade Kim Il Sung's Idea on the Youth Movement and the Achievements Made Under His Leadership" with due ceremony at the Himalayas Hotel on October 13 as regards his election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The chairman of the national council, presiding over the publication ceremony, said while leading the revolution and construction all his life, President Kim Il Sung paid deep attention to the youth movement and performed shining exploits.
His idea on the youth movement and undying feats are brilliantly being carried forward and developed by the great leader general Kim Jong Il, he added.
Ukrainian gives impression of Korea
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Chairman V.O. Maksymov of the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine who was leading a ukrainian government civil aviation delegation, in an interview with a reporter before his departure for home, said that he keenly felt that the revolutionary traditions are being carried forward with purity in Korea.
He said efforts are made to preserve and build well the revolutionary historic sites associated with the leader and forerunners in Korea. It is of weighty importance in education of a new generation, he pointed out.
He went on to say that all this is thanks to the lofty intention of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, adding that he is wisely leading the Korean people and that under his leadership the Korean people are forging ahead, pulling through difficulties.
Wonderful natural phenomena on Mt. Paektu
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- Wonderful natural phenomena have been witnessed on Mt. Paektu, the time-honored place of the revolution, in Korea.
It was dawn on September 21 when the South Phyongan Provincial Party Conference was held to discuss the agenda item on recommending General Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The day before, it snowed and rained on Mt. Paektu as usual till mid-day. In the evening, its temperature abruptly increased more than 10 degrees centigrade higher than the average. And the northwestern wind and northeastern wind, the typical winds on Mt. Paektu, disappeared and the southwestern wind blew. At night, high and low clouds completely disappeared.
As the new day was breaking, the eastern sky of orange and yellowish brown colors turned red and a bright sun rose above Mt. Paektu.
This grandiose sunrise continued several days.
Meteorological observations in this area say that on Mt. Paektu, the sunrise has never occurred for three consecutive days, it showered in the dry season, the sun rose in the rainy season and that cloud and sunshine appeared by turns every one or three days and even hourly.
However, in the emotional period when the great general Kim Jong Il was elected as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, the sunrise continued for 25 consecutive days, spreading grandiose landscape.
A more mysterious natural phenomenon was observed on the afternoon of October 8.
At around 05:10 when the special communique informed the people of the election of general Kim Jong Il as General Secretary of the WPK, a colored cloud appeared on Mt. Paektu.
This cloud slowly moved from the sky above Janggun Peak toward the Hyangdo Peak. The ground color of the cloud of big parachute type was white and its rims were dyed with seven colors.
It was all the more wonderful that the cloud stayed low above Hyangdo Peak for a long time before moving toward Janggun Peak. The moment, mysterious sounds reminiscent of cheers and applause came from surface of Lake Chon and a strong whirlwind rose which carried piles of snow into the sky and dropped them onto the ground, adorning the sky on Mt. Paektu in various colors.
Witnessing these wonderful natural phenomena, its inhabitants said that nature also celebrated Kim Jong Il's election as WPK General Secretary.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il is great father of large family of socialism, says Rodong Sinmun
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il is the great father of the large family of socialism who is leading the destiny and future of the Korean people in a responsible manner.

Live for tomorrow's sake -- this is his noble outlook on life. It is no easy task to do all the work purposefully, bearing responsibility for the future destiny of the people at the time when the enemy's moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK are growing day by day and everything is difficult.
This can be done only by General Kim Jong Il who has the noble sense of mission to lead the people in a responsible manner in the future, too, and the strong will to discharge it.
Kim Jong Il's election as WPK General Secretary hailed in Moscow
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- An evening and the opening ceremony of a Korean book, photos and handicraft exhibition were held in Moscow on October 16 to congratulate General Kim Jong Il on his election as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
At the evening, N. Pavlov, First Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Congress of Russian Community, said in his speech that Kim Jong Il's election as Party General Secretary is an auspicious national event for the Korean people and also a great common event for the progressive people of the world.
With General Kim Jong Il officially elected as Party General Secretary, the Workers' Party and people of Korea can accelerate socialist construction and wage the struggle for the reunification of the country with redoubled confidence and courage, he added.
Participants in the evening welcomed the event, dancing and singing "Song of General Kim Jong Il", "General, this is forefront" and other Korean songs and revolutionary songs of Russia.

Gift to General Secretary Kim Jong Il from Zimbabwean delegation
Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from the visiting delegation of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean Minister Dumiso Dabengwa today asked Minister of Public Security Peak Hak Rim to convey the gift to General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from a visiting delegation of the Nepal Communist Party (united Marxism-Leninism).
