Press review

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- Papers here today carry a message of greetings that Secretary Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, sent to comrade Jiang Zemin on his reelection as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission. It is reported in Rodong Sinmun that Secretary Kim Jong Il sent thanks to officials and working people for highly displaying the traditional traits of army-people unity. Minju Joson carries an article stressing that strengthening the people's power is an important demand for expediting the building of socialism. Papers run editorials saying that the country should finish harvesting quickly. Rice harvesting has begun, according to the press. Printed in the press is an indictment on the south Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo's anti-national and anti-social crimes published by the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland. Rodong Sinmun carries an article on the struggle of youth and students of south Korea against the Kim Young Sam regime's campaign for obliteration of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils. The paper in a commentary warns the U.S. and the south Korean puppets not to test the military strength of the north by force of arms. According to the press, the head of the DPRK delegation stressed at the 98th Conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union that the DPRK provides the people with an independent, creative and democratic life. Minju Joson runs an article denouncing the U.S. war maniacs for making war preparations behind the facade of dialogue. Rodong Sinmun informs the readers of the result of the first plenary meeting of the 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Papers report that the 52nd session of the United Nations General Assembly opened. Rodong Sinmun prints an article stressing that anti-Cuba moves of the U.S. and its followers will be frustrated.

Rodong Sinmun on U.S. war preparations

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today accuses the United States of stepping up preparations of aircraft carriers for action in "case of emergency" on the Korean Peninsula and continuously staging war exercises with the south Korean puppets against the DPRK. The news analyst says: Last year the U.S. carrier independence called at Pusan Port, south Korea. It is a sophisticated warship with nearly 100 fighter planes and various types of missiles on board. The preparations of such aggressive warships for action in "case of emergency" on the Korean Peninsula are aimed at unleashing war. The extreme tension on this peninsula is entirely attributable to the frantic arms buildup and military exercises of the U.S. warhawks and the south Korean puppets. On the pretext of "threat from the north," the U.S. warhawks are aggravating military confrontation and tension op this peninsula in a bid to find an excuse for justifying the movement of armed forces to south Korea and making an adventurous war against the DPRK. If the United States sticks to the policy of stifling the DPRK, far from removing the belligerency with the DPRK, we will have to act commensurate with their action. Military pressure and means of strength can never work on the DPRK. The United States and the south Korean puppets would be well advised not to try the military strength of the DPRK.

Chondoists make commitment to reunification

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- A joint plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Chondoist Chongu Party and the Central Guidance Committee of the Korean Chondoists Association was held here on Thursday. The meeting discussed how to fulfil the tasks laid down in "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification," a work of Secretary Kim Jong Il. Ryu Mi Yong, Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Party and Chairwoman of the Central Guidance Committee of the Association, made a report, followed by speeches. The reporter and speakers described the work as a great charter for national reunification in that it will meet the cherished desire of the Chongu Party members and Chondoists for promoting great unity of the whole nation and reunifying the country independently and peacefully on the basis of patriotism and the spirit of unity and harmony. They said the country must be reunified in the form of confederacy on the basis of the three principles -- independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity -- and the Ten-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation. They urged the south Korean authorities to renounce the policy of dependence on foreign forces and the anti-national, anti-reunification policy of north-south confrontation and war and show a positive change of policy in practice. They also called on the united states and other countries concerned to play a positive role for the reunification of Korea. They expressed expectation that the Chondoists, Tangun Taejonggyo believers and all other conscientious-minded religionists in south Korea will fight more courageously for the great unity of the whole nation and the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

Anthropocentric socialist system of DPRK

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- Tatsuguni Komori, Vice-Chairman of the New Socialist Party of Japan, had an interview with KCNA after winding up his visit to Korea. "Seeing that children are cheerful and grownups live and work full of vigor despite difficulties caused by repeated natural disasters, I thought this can be seen only under the anthropocentric socialist system of Korea," he told KCNA. He noted that the relations between the DPRK and Japan have not been improved mainly because the Japanese Government follows the U.S. policy of domination of the world. "The Japanese Government is building up the military forces with the U.S. As it regards maintaining tension between the two countries as beneficial to Japan's interests," he said. "The purpose is to stifle labor movement in Asian region." It is worthy of admiration that President Kim Il Sung led the DPRK to pursue independent policies, he noted. He wished the Korean people greater success in their efforts to keep to the socialist principle.

Chosun Ilbo's anti-national, anti-social crimes disclosed

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland on Friday published an indictment against the south Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo's anti-national, anti-social crimes. The indictment first discloses the criminal activities of Chosun Ilbo being a disseminator of the sycophantic and flunkeyist idea. The heinous crime of this treacherous venal paper is that it has advocated flunkeyism and dependence on outside forces. The paper justified the relations of dependence on the United States, saying: "The U.S. is an ally and a friend with which south Korea has maintained more friendly relations than with any other allies. It is quite natural that we do honor to this ally before the north of Korea." It also said, "The U.S. Holds the most important position for south Korea in view of security and the economy." "Scrapping the south Korea-U.S. security pact and breaking the long-standing alliance will lead to s. Korea's ruin and so such things should never be done," it urged. The paper took the lead in supporting the "International Cooperation System" called for by Kim Young Sam and defending the traitor who opened south Korean rice market to the United States and offered all other economic life line to outsiders. Arguing "We have incited bad sentiments toward Japan more than necessary since national liberation," the paper has engaged in anti-national propaganda, which insulted the Korean nation's resentment towards the Japanese imperialism, branding it as wrong. Chosun Ilbo has also made itself infamous as press servant of the fascist dictatorship and as strangler of democracy and people's rights, the indictment points out, and says: The paper described the successive dictators of south Korea as "heroes", while lauding "May 16 military coup" as "Worldwide monumental event". It also made false propaganda that the birth of the Kim Young Sam "Government," though it was cooked up through the worst fraudulent elections totally backed by power and money, "is a symbol heralding democratization of south Korean society." When the people called for a probe into the truth behind the May 18 Kwangju massacre and for the punishment of the murderers, the paper made an insult to and a mockery of them, claiming that "the truth has been probed to some extent through hearings and compensation money paid." The paper slandered the people's strikes against the retrogressively revised "Law on the Agency for National Security Law" and "Labour Laws", as "illegal", saying that "the revised 'Labour Laws' are modelled after those of developed countries in several aspects." It also sided with the Kim Young Sam group branding the South Korean Federation of Univeristy Student Councils (Hanchongryon) as "organization benefitting the north, the enemy" and "violent organization". Slandering Hanchongryon, it argued that "we can no longer exist without our system." Referring to the anti-reunification crimes of Chosun Ilbo, the indictment says: Chosun Ilbo, as a venal trumpeter of the south Korean rulers, has incited distrust, confrontation and war among the fellow countrymen to layobstacles to the reunification of the country. It is this paper which viciously slandered the northern half of Korea as "anti-state organization" and "area to be taken back" and which clamoured about non-existent "north's invasion" and "provocation by the north". Inciting north-south confrontation among south Korean people, the paper recklessly calls for war and does not hesitate to make distorted propaganda in a bid to check humanitarian aid to the fellow countrymen. All the materials and information used by Chosun Ilbo for confrontation among the fellow countrymen were and are offered entirely by the puppet Agency for National Security Planning, the indictment stresses. Chosun Ilbo, which has made unpardonable crimes against the country and the nation, the indictment holds, should not be allowed to exist any longer and should immediately be removed with the Kim Young Sam "civilian" regime which has been driven to the edge of ruin.

Anti-Cuba activities bound to end in fiasco

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- The anti-Cuba activities of the United States and its followers are bound to end in failure and the socialist cause of the Cuban people will surely emerge victorious, says Rodong Sinmun today. In an article the daily says: The bomb blasts at three tourist hotels and a restaurant in Havana on September 4 are products of the premeditated and deliberate moves of the United States and its followers to stifle the Cuban revolution. Admittedly, the United States has tried hard to stamp out the Cuban revolution since the Cuban people won in the revolution. It committed an invasion of Cuba and has also persistently tried to isolate the country politically, diplomatically and economically. The United States has escalated anti-Cuba manoeuvres. It is well known a fact that the united states made "helms-burton law" for the purpose of stifling Cuba economically. The Cuban people, however, have advanced the revolution, smashing the enemy's moves in every way under the correct leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba headed by comrade Fidel Castro. Through the bomb blasts the United States and its followers sought to make impressions that Cuba has suffered a political confusion and keep tourists from going to Cuba. Now the Cuban people are convincingly advancing along the road chosen by themselves in defiance of the anti-Cuba manoeuvres. The Korean people will as ever fully support the just cause of the Cuban people, who are advancing under the banner of socialism.

Korean people enjoy independent, creative and democratic life

Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Han Si Hae made a speech at the 98th conference of the inter-parliamentary union held in Cairo. Han, who was heading a delegation of the DPRK Parliamentary Union, said in his speech that in the DPRK the people enjoy an independent, creative and democratic life under the man-centred socialist system, which is the embodiment of the Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung and enriched by Secretary Kim Jong Il. "I am convinced that the fundamental principle and way For the country's reunification laid down in 'Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification', a famous work of Secretary Kim Jong Il published on August 4, 1997 are the most patriotic proposal," he said. "To ease the tension and preserve peace on the Korean Peninsula, a new peace mechanism should be established," he stressed. The United States should accept the proposed signing of a Peace Agreement with the DPRK and establishment of a new peace mechanism so as to implement its commitment and obligation sincerely, he said, adding that if the U.S. Does good things for peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula, the relations between the DPRK and the U.S. will develop on good terms in the interest of the peoples of the two countries.
