News from S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- South Korean students on March 10 attacked district offices of the "New Korea Party" and the "National Congress for New Politics" in Seoul and staged protests against reamendment of the "labor law" against workers, a Seoul-based radio report said. Displayed in the exhibition hall were art works on his undying exploits and the revolutionary activities of President Kim Il Sung to build the people-centred Korean socialism as wished by Kim Hyong Jik and the leadership of Secretary Kim Jong Il to carry forward the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered by the President. The opening ceremony was attended by Jang Chol, vice- Premier of the Administration Council and Minister of Culture and Art, and other officials.

Rodong Sinmun censures Kim Young Sam for slander against north

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Kim Young Sam of South Korea showed up at the "51st graduation ceremony" of the "naval academy" on March 12 and called on the graduates to fully perform their "duty" in response to the north's "possible provocation and naval attack". Hitting hard at his slander against the north, Rodong Sinmun today says in a commentary: His remarks revealed himself on the verge of ruin, bitterly condemned by the people for his treacherous misrule and for his involvement in the Hanbo scandal. The Kim Young Sam group are now desperately trying to emerge from the serious crisis. His latest abuses of the north are part of his desperate efforts to get themselves out of the crisis. The puppets intend to further intensify the suppression of the pro-reunification, pro-democracy forces under the pretext of "security" and unleash a war against the north with a fiction of "threat from the north". But their efforts are viewed as a death-bed struggle.

The paper devotes nearly one whole page to an article titled "recalling the activities of a great man in jilin", which was written by a chinese commanding officer of the third army of the allied anti-Japanese forces about the early revolutionary activities of president Kim Il Sung. Rodong Sinmun carries a revolutionary anecdote on Secretary Kim Jong Il's double-crop test farming. The paper comes out with an article on the loving care and benevolence shown by President Kim Il Sung, comrade Kim Jong Suk and Secretary Kim Jong Il for a revolutionary martyr Kim Sang Chun, who was a security man, and his children. Kim Young Sam's "message" full of lies

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Kim Young Sam on Wednesday promulgated the "reamended" evil labor laws and issued a "message to the people." On March 10, the Kim Young Sam regime railroaded a "ruling-opposition revised bill of labor laws" through "parliament." The South Korean workers and people call the "reamended labor relations act" a second version of evil labor laws, in that it is little different from the former one. That is why the South Korean public including labor movement call for the immediate withdrawal of the "laws" that were "legitimated" behind the facade of "ruling- opposition negotiation." Kim Young Sam, however, told lies in the "message" he issued promulgating the evil laws. Although the new laws contain the disputed points that caused general strikes, he shamelessly argued that the laws underwent "total revision" and "fully reflected the main spirit of labor-management relations." In the meantime, he called for "new labor-management relations based on participation and cooperation" and "great harmony between labor and management." In his earlier "statement to the people," he had apologized for the labor disputes and the Hanbo scandal. His "message" full of lies is a challenge to and a mockery of the South Korean public and the international community. It is a double and treble betrayal and crime. This shows that unless such political prostitutes and mountebanks as Kim Young Sam are removed, the corrupt fascist politics will never change nor can the just demands of the working masses be met.

Rodong Sinmun on Japan's moves for overseas expansion

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the "ministry of security" the Japanese government plans to set up. The daily says: The projected "ministry" is said to deal with, besides the defence agency's function, Japan's all military issues including administration concerning the "self-defence forces" and the U.S. military bases, activities based on the "Japan-U.S. Security Treaty" and un peace-peeking operations. Which the agency of defence facilities and the Foreign Ministry have been in charge of. Though the Japanese authorities are describing the establishment of the "Ministry" as ordinary "structural streamlining" within the framework of "administration reform", they are seeking a very sinister intention in actuality. It is the Japanese reactionaries' invariable desire to cultivate military strength and dominate Asia. Their plan to set up the "ministry of security" is aimed at justifying their efforts to turn the country into a military power and launch overseas expansion under the pretext of the non-existent "threat from the DPRK". The conversion of the country into a military power and overseas expansion are not a proper choice for Japan. Overseas expansion will bring only disgrace and destruction to Japan. The Japanese authorities should reasonably size up the future of militarist Japan, cool themselves overheated with the ambition for overseas expansion and take a proper choice.

Foreign Ministry spokesman on Russia-S. Korea arms deal

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was interviewed by KCNA today over rumors about a Russia-South Korea arms deal. The spokesman said: There are some speculations that Russia will sell new- type anti-aircraft missile system "Tor m1" to South Korea. We cannot overlook the arms deal because it may gravely affect the already tense situation of the Korean peninsula. South Korea has already turned into a large arsenal with an influx of weapons from arms merchants including the United States and other western countries. The export of sophisticated weapons to South Korea cannot be construed otherwise but an act of encouraging the South Korean authorities, who have been intentionally deteriorating inter-Korean relations, to the provocation of a war. If arms sale to South Korea is left tolerated, it will result in impeding all the proposals and efforts for the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula. The arms expoters should ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by their arms sale to such hotspots as the Korean peninsula.

50th anniversary of KPA song and dance ensemble marked

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- 50 years has passed since the song and dance ensemble of the Korean People's Army was founded. President Kim Il Sung founded it on Feb. 22, 1947 and clearly indicated its tasks and wisely led it to fulfil them. Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the ensembe some 120 times and guided it to wage revolutionary and militant art activities to suit the characters of the revolutionary army. Under his leadership the ensemble produced the revolutionary opera "the True Daughter of the Party" as a monumental masterpiece of the era and brought about a new turn in song and dance performances. It has so far performed over 220 times in the presence of President Kim Il Sung and Secretary Kim Jong Il, more than 26,000 times for local people and over 770 times for foreigners. It created over 1,100 songs and more than 170 dances of high ideological and artistic value conducive to the revolutionary education of people and servicemen. It was awarded the "Order of Kim Il Sung" twice, the Order of National Flag and the Order of Freedom and Independence first classes. And it has become an experienced art unit with famous artists and creating staff. A congratulatory message of the central military commission of the Workers' Party of Korea was conveyed to the creating staff and artists of the ensemble and model people were awarded the "Kim Il Sung Prize", the People's Prize, and titles of people's and merited artistes on the 50th anniversary of its founding. The message highly praised them for the great exploits they performed in the struggle to implement the party's theory and policy of literature and art with boundless loyalty to the party and the leader and devotion to their revolutionary tasks. A meeting marked its 50th anniversary at the April 25 House of Culture on Thursday.

"Freedom" of ideology is deceptive call for injection of reactionary ideology

Pyongyang, march 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today says that the "freedom" of ideology on the lips of the imperialists is aimed at spreading the bourgeois ideology and culture all over the world for their domination of the international community and reducing humankind to mental cripples to bring them under control. The daily notes: The "freedom" of ideology in the capitalist society the imperialists are advertizing is a smokescreen for suppression and control of ideology. The bourgeois ruling classes pretend to allow progressive ideas in capitalist society to some extent. This is a political drama to beautify the capitalist society as a "democratic society" and cover up the reactionary policy of ideological suppression and the domination of bourgeois ideology over the society. The imperialists' propaganda about "freedom" of ideology in the capitalist society is a distortion of reality and a deception and mockery of the people. They are trying to beautify the bourgeois ideology and culture and implant them into other countries on the pretext of the "freedom" of ideology. Their purpose is to make the people ideological and mental cripples, paralyze their sound thinking and consciousness of independence, disorganize these countries from within and bring them under control. The imperialists' ballad of the "freedom" of ideology should be approached with high vigilance and precaution. An active struggle should be waged against their moves for injecting the reactionary ideology.

"Chonji char" on Mt. Paektu

Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Chars live in shoals in lake chon on Mt. Paektu. Recently a char, 55 cm long, was caught in the Lake by members of the team for general survey of Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu. This fish is named "Chonji char". According to them, the grown-up "Chonji char" is two or three times bigger and shoots ten times as many spawns as other kinds of chars. It also differs in shape from other chars. It was until the 1980s that no life except some species of plant plankton and water bugs had been confirmed to exist in Lake Chon. After the formation of the survey team, its members made an overall study of the lake. As a result, several dozen species of plant plankton as well as many water plants and bugs were discovered. It was also proven that hundreds of species of insects and animals flying over the lake might fall a prey to fish. The explorers put 100 grown chars in the Lake for experimental pisciculture. In July 1987 they caught, for the first time, fry chars 3-7 cm long. Over the past ten years the chars have multiplied to live in shoals. Lake Chon formed by a volcanic eruption is surrounded by several peaks of Mt. Paektu, 2,750 metres above sea level. The Lake is over tens of ri around and some 380 metres deep. The habitation of the chars in this big crater lake scientifically proves that the lake water is very clean and clear.
